Show us. Not saying I don't believe you but my wallet is . I always hear that the m1a and the AR10 are capable of 1moa but for some reason nobody is able to show us.
Thanks for the review. Was thinking about picking one of these up. You may have justified the purchase. Seems like for the price point, you're getting a lot of gun. No frills but good value. 🙂👍
True. And also, the AR-10 came first. The Army was retiring the M1 Garand. Eugene Stoner had been working on battle rifles and had one in 7.62 x 51 mm NATO, meant to compete against and outperform the AK-47 and also, to replace the M1 Garand. The Garand was a long rifle and the AR-10 was more portable. However, a crap ton of politics came into play and the M14 was chosen. So, Eugene Stoner kept working and responded to the need for a smaller and shorter rifle for CQB. Like shooting a handgun round with medium range ballistics. So, his next gen, the AR-15 was a suitable platform. And that became the M16. However, he did get good results. And some AR-10s like mine (different maker) are going to do best with heavier grain weights because of the twist rate. (google what is best grain weight for 1:10 twist rate in .308 W. Basically, 165 gr or heavier is going to do it.
you completely overlooked the most important feature of the rifle. the FULL ambi bolt control with both a catch AND release. it has become mandatory imo and the main reason i bought the DD5V1 along with the awesome $1700 deal! i would have been perfectly content with the S&W M&P-10 though and would have come out $300 cheaper after installing a free float handguard, trigger and other accessories that the DD came with. im loving my DD5V1. its reliable and sub MOA accurate but the S&W is cheaper and lighter and its fully ambi controls are excellent.
What a surprise that the 180 gr big bertha shot 1/2 MOA. I agree that the application of this type of semiautomatic rifle is not the same as say a heavy barrel bolt gun. So us this rifle for what that which it performs best. Still, I would expect close to 1 MOA with a good scope, and of course the right ammo will aid that pursuit. I'm leaning toward one of these.
The Smith likes heavy bullets. Pretty much everyone has found that to be the case, which explains why your groups get better with heavier bullets. So now, you need a heavy match grade bullet.
I Hand Load 155 and168 bullets for this rifle the accuracy is amazing I have bolt .308 none of them shoot as good as the M&P 10. CLOSE but not as good.
Question: On the Herters 180gr load that you said shot the best.... you said it keyholed at 100yds. By keyhole do you mean the bullet was tumbling and hit the target sideways? Or do you mean that 2 shots went through the same hole?
@@duaneelsbree3460 No he said it twice. He thinks that's what it means. He's ignorant and never looked it up. He also seems to not know a 1-10 twist is never going to shoot well with sub 165gr. Honestly that's pushing it. Also didn't know the Federal 168 GMM ammo is also a Sierra MatchKing bullet. I own the 16" version of this rifle. It will shoot well with a properly worked 168 SMK load and "Tack Drive" or "One hole" (
@@RealHank1791 Well, while you are correct that 1 in 10 twist 30 cal is not ideal for lighter bullets. It doesn't mean they won't shoot. For example my 20" 1 in 10 loves 125 sst. Which I believe is a blackout bullet. Also shoots 110 Barnes well under an inch at 100. 110 sierra varminters after some load development will also shoot well. 155 full bore shoots great. And of course 168, 169 and 175 match kings all shoot good. One bullet that I never got figured out was 110 VMAX 2" was the norm. Jacket concentricity and cartridge runout become more important at the higher rpm's and "over stabilized" bullets. But it isn't a deal breaker. Oddly my 1 in 12 308 shoots 178 hpbt amazingly well. While the 1 in 10 is terrible with those
Which BCM charging handle did you use? The M&P 10's charging handle was included on the list of proprietary parts. (Obviously incorrect since you have a BCM installed) The BCM web site ALSO says neither the med/large handle will fit the M&P 10 but then has a disclaimer saying "...it might..no guarantees." (Again, obviously it might and does... fit.) This is great news for the same optic and preference reasons you stated in your review. My M&P 10 arrives tomorrow and I am making many of the same mods you have completed..Free float hand guard, back up irons, and exclusive scope/mount. I'm hoping you will share which charging handle you purchased (med or large) and if any mods were needed? Are you planning to install a variable gas block? TNP suppressors failed (too much back pressure) until installation of a variable gas block solved the fail. Thank you again for a very helpful review your review... hoping you will reply. Sincerely, Ward Stephenson
I have a Bravo Company Gunfighter 7.62 large charge handle on mine and it works fine. Not sure why their website sales otherwise - mine works just fine with it.
Thats GREAT to hear. Do you recall if you have a med, large, or the ambidextrous one? A video showed needing to use a dremel tool to get the handle to fit correctly. Sorry to bother you... but I plan to get EXACT model you did.
carnivalwrestler I have one and am having feed problems like crazy. Still haven’t had a proper break in, but if I get to 500 rounds and continue to have problems I’m calling S&w
@@FilmThePoliceFTP Sorry for the late reply, but I never received a notification and I was just reviewing this, since I've seen so many conflicting opinions on accuracy. Thanks for the info, I suspected that there might be some feed problems. Are you still having feed problems? Edited to add: Have you tried different magazines? Sometimes they can be the problem with feeding heftier rounds. And sometimes the feed problem can be towards the end of the stack or towards the beginning. Have you noticed that (does it FTF when you first put a new mag in, or towards the last few rounds of a mag?)
carnivalwrestler I tried different mags, different ammo etc... I sent it to smith, got it back in 3 weeks with a replaced barrel and it worked flawlessly. I ended up selling it, though because I couldn’t put a binary trigger on it due to a nub that would keep the selector from going into binary position... built myself an aero precision and I’m more than happy with it. Doesn’t speak badly about the M&p 10 though, it’s a GREAT rifle.. just with the binary trigger I bought for it and a lower that didn’t work with it sitting collecting dust, I decid3d to do something with them.
@@FilmThePoliceFTP Thanks for your quick reply. I'm looking to buy a .308 semi-auto AR type rifle, and your info will help me greatly in selecting one, and I'm leaning towards this one, but I want an 18" barrel on it. I just need a little extra zip out of the spout.
Nick Joslin good question. I just read that most of this rifle wasn't interchangeable with other after market parts. I don't know whether to believe them. Seeing magpul stock makes me think its that dudes personal opinion and problem.
There are ones that are compatible but the problem is the gas length is proprietary with a picatiny top gas block and the barrel is insanely thick towards the receiver
Kevin Christian barrel diameters never been a problem. The proprietary gas length and upper reciever hinder most handguard options. Although it is dpms low profile height, most any rail will still be off quit a bit.
I couldn't get past the 4 minute mark without thinking of Darth Vader and Brenda Vaccaro. I quit watching because that hard breathing is off-putting; kinda like this: ua-cam.com/video/SCwqyO4hPQo/v-deo.html
That was an outstanding review and a very good opinion on this rifle. It really is under the radar.
Beautiful rifle. Excellent review and very impressive shooting. I'm sold.
I consistently get sub MOA with Federal Gold Match 168grn. It's a great rifle and my go to war .308.

do you think live free armory or dimond back can compare with this riffle
@@ZFlyingVLover WATCH NUTNFANCY CHANNEL HERE ON UA-cam, HIS RIFLE IS HALF MOA AND HE SHOWS IT!!

I also get 1 mos out of my M&P 10 with Fed GMM 168 gr. Just my word. I don’t have any targets to show.
Thanks for the review. Was thinking about picking one of these up. You may have justified the purchase. Seems like for the price
point, you're getting a lot of gun. No frills but good value. 🙂👍
Just FYI the group was clover leafing. Not key holing. Key holing is when the bullet tumbles in the air and hits the target sideways.

do 7.62 tumble often out longer ranges, or if better ammo keep straight?
Good review. Well spoken.
that's my next buy I've wanted her for over two years now, I think it's the best of big calibers

That's good enough for Sasquatch protection👍
I have heard this gun likes heavier grain bullets. Which would make sense being that your heaviest was your best group.
The variation in groups is from barrel harmonics. Rifle would respond well to care hand load development.

Would love to own one but banned in Canada. Along with almost every semi auto rifle there is.
Mine likes the 180 grain Federal power shock hunting load.
nice video!

I grouped 1 1/2 inches with 147 at 100 yards with PMC.
I dont have one and maybe im wrong but Doesn't it come stock with a flash suppressor and not a muzzle break?
1-10 twist designed for 180 grain and up.
That’s not key holing. Key holes come from 1 bullet tumbling in flight
Nice rifle. What flip up sights are you using on here?
Hahahahaha! I harvested a lot of deer with 150 gr bullets. Mine did outstanding with hand loads but not so well with LC match.
Hornady sst 165 grain does best for my M&P10

Troy Industries Alpha Rail is perfect match
You keep saying AR15, it's an AR10
Yup - my bad :-)
If you wanna get technical, It is an LR-308 design, not an AR-10.
Now that you have the ammo that the gun like, go ahead and sight it in better.
arent those 1 inch squares...?
Yes- one inch squares. So at 100 yard, each square in 1 MOA
if they're 1 inch squares then that gold medal match group is definitely not 1.5 inches lol. more like 1 inch
Why aren't your BUIS canted off so you don't have to take your scope off and mess up your zero?
Its a 1moa 308 why would 600 yards be the max? That makes no sense.
Do you practice at long range frequently?
Almost ALL AR-10 platforms do much better with heavier bullets
Don't waist y time with useless comments stick with accuracy and options used,,,
