I have had a Ruger pcc for about three years and I'm going to sell it. The Ruger is great but I like the S&W fpc better. Great video Thanks.
I love my Sub2k, but I like that more manufacturers especially the larger ones are starting to do more oddball/out of the box concepts. I like the proliferation of "gadget/gimmick guns" and new lease on life cartridges like 5.7 and 10mm.
TBH the folding 9MM PCC is anything but a gimmick. It has become my go to, my most used and most useful gun. Especially up here in Canada where we have few options, and most options suck or cost 5 grand this gun is a breath of fresh air compared to the competition
I just bought one with a red dot. I love mine! What I like most about is 25 cents per round compared to 22 at ,07 and any other at 1 dollar per round. And can get heavier bullets close to 357 with same gun. Perfect for targets versatile for hunting.
It's nice to see the industry eventually catching up to Kel-Tec. P3AT -> Ruger LCP; P11 -> Sig P365; Sub-2000 -> S&W FPC; KSG -> M&P 12, IWI Tavor TS12 and others. Kel-Tec's execution might not be as refined as others, but they definitely push the envelope of innovation.
I wish they would have at least included some basic folding sights. That would actually have made sense. Not everybody wants to run an optic. Folding sights would have kept it smaller in profile, plus for around $650 to $700 it makes sense.
I still prefer the sub 2000 in almost every way. Glock mags. Less weight. Less width. The irons are fine. The trigger is good enough. I like the groups I get at 100. One point goes to S&W for the mag storage in the butt stock. It has an opportunity for a second and third point if it can handle aluminum and steel ammo.
I put 100 rounds of 7-8 year old Blazer through our FPC, and it ran just fine. Can't say anything about steel though, as I never use the stuff. During my one and only range session so far, I also put 50 rounds each of two different 115gr loads and 50 rounds each of two different 124gr loads through the rifle and did not encounter a single issue. So 300 rounds with no problems. Very encouraging first outing......
As a stowaway gun the sub2000 works very well. It’s less than half the width, ~$300 (after rebate right now), and very light. I’ll never pick it over a cheap AR but when you want something more than a pistol but can’t have a rifle I’ll take it!
For people who have M&Ps this makes more sense since they should have plenty of mags for both. I see a use for it when camping, much easier to get small game with a longer barrel.
Cool PCC. The folding lever/mechanism unlocking during firing, the ability to over insert mags, and the charging handle reciprocating are things to keep an eye on but it having just a Black Oxide finished barrel kills it for me. Will look forward to the 2.0.
The charging handle in a correctly functioning FPC does not reciprocate. There is a small latch that extends from the lower back end of the polymer body underneath the receiver tube and catches the front of the charging handle, thereby keeping the handle in place. So either his rifle's catch is inop or missing (he might have a pre-production example that just doesn't have it), or he isn't using the rifle correctly.
Got the Gen 2 Sub2k in 9mm Glock mags with full internal MCARBO guts and accessories. Definitely a solid gun with their complete kit. All it took was a FTE, pre MCARBO, that lodged the casing right into the polymer feed ramp for me to do the complete kit. Never could understand why they do plastic feed ramps, the slice that casing made would have made you cringe like it did me.
From what I can find, the MSRP is going to be around $700.00. I'm kinda pissed off with S&W for ending the Thompson Center line. The Contender series is excellent and their black powder rifles are great. Hopefully someone will revive the brand and keep making them in America.

Nice review. I have noticed a trend in the gun community on UA-cam though. In reviews of products, it's really nice all you guys can run cans but many of us cant. Sure would be nice to hear what it sounds like in the reviews. Thanks!
The sub 2k is way better than a fair price! in my opinion this is also better than a fair price at $650. I own both. May favorite feature between both is the bolt locks back on an empty mag on the m&p. it does not on the sub 2k.
They need a full size grip option. If you have a M&P 9mm compact you're set. Both the 15 round pistol magazines and all the magazines that come with FPC will fit either. It you have a full size M&P you're going to be stuck fiddling around with taking the plastic magazine spacer on and off to switch them between the carbine and your pistol.
I decided to look for another carbine after selling my Kel-Tec. Looked online and saw the S&W FPC and it looks great. I like all the features and price is pretty good. Great review and you covered everything as usual.
Just picked my up today and can tell S&W listened to early reviews. Mine charges easily with one hand and also closes with a discernible "click" so no worries there. Now it's time to go shoot it. Great review thank you!
Wow, thanks so much. Up until your video NO ONE addressed the RECOIL of the S&W FPC. I've already watched a dozen videos and you are the first to give a COMPLETE review. I'm not a fan of the SUB 2000, due to the felt recoil. It's good for what it does, but it is a shoulder killer.
Is Smith & Wesson just keltec 2.0 now? I will say this much, it does seem to be a considerable improvement over the Sub2000, more mass for reduced recoil, what looks to be the M&P 2.0 grip that is customizable with different backstraps, a charging handle that is reminiscent of an AR charging handle, in addition to a last shot lock open mechanism and a sight mount that does have to be removed or swiveled out of the way to make it fold. All it's missing is the ability to change the type of magazine you can use with it like the Sub2000 Multi Mag varient or the Ruger PC carbine do.
Webley revolvers have used latches like that barrel hinge for more than a century. And they still seldomly have issues besides since it's only firing 9mm strength shouldn't be an issue I like it. It's practical and compact
It firing when not fully latched closed is a real safety concern. S&W should be made aware of this happening. Maybe do some testing to see if it will fire when not properly latched and what happens if a case ruptures. It should have a safety to prevent firing when not latched properly.
I wish Kel-Tec would do a sub 2000 in .45acp. Set up for 1911, mags. I have mine set up for Beretta 92fs mags. I love the gun. I am seriously considering this S&W too. Two is one and one is none.
Eric , The charging handle is definitely reciprocating at 13:21 on the video ,it's not going far maybe 3 inches back, but it is moving backward , I shot one yesterday and that was the first thing that I noticed about the rifle , it was very accurate that's for sure !
Yeah, that's sort of weird behavior. It's clearly not fully-reciprocating with the bolt. It might just be non-reciprocating non-latching, which would make it move with friction. Very clear at 19:50
@@ExtremeSquared On Sootch00 video of this gun, the charging handle does not move when he if firing it.. I think Eric got a lemon..with the handle moving and the latch problem.
Not sure how much this will cost but I am loving my Extar EP9, they are great for the money and mine has been totally reliable if anyone is looking for a 9mm carbine on a budget.
The size is a bit of an issue, not really able to fit in a backpack is its major drawback. If they made it able to accept a lawman tactical folder then it would be ideal.
The only way to “over-insert the magazine” is to use a > 15 round mag without the spacer, then hold the mag release button down while you’re seating the magazine. Not an issue at all.
I'm guessing a review embargo lifted today because EVERY "Guntuber" released their review of this firearm within an hour of each other it seems. LOL! That's not a bad thing. It seems to be generally well received by all the reviewers thus far. Not perfect or anything but a very good option for PCC.
Just picked one up and the first thing I noticed is they used the compact pistol grip instead of the full size. Stupid move! If you use the full size mags that don't have the little spacer, you have a gap that can pinch the hell out of your little finger! Second they should have extended the pic rail on the grip portion so you can mount a rear sight. Third, why not just include a flash suppressor?
Great first look!! Thank you. I was looking at the Sub2000, I don't like the polymer trigger system, but I do like the Glock mags which is what I'm oriented for. Both look like viable options for a concealed carry.
The issues with the EP is it cant accept a folder stock and some trigger packs wont work like the wide open trigger, etc. Other than those issues, it is smooth.
it's refreshing to see innovation coming from more manufacturers, but I think this will live in the shadow of the sub2K simply because the Kel-Tec is available in Glock magazine configuration.
I'm not sure why companies keep making shoulder fired 9 mm or why customers keep buying them. 9 mm is too big for rabbit or squirrel and it's too small for deer And probably hog. About the only thing you can shoot with the 9 mm is targets and people. We all have 9 mm for self defense. But what percentage of the 9 mm actually get used for their intended purpose. I bet it's less than 1%. Something like this rifle would be cool and like a 45 ACP Or 10 mm.
I like that it folds to the side so you do not have to remove your Optics
Nice the velocities have to be In-Sane screaming out of a 16 inch barrel.
@Alex Kurtz I wish I had a way to test it but I'm sure she's moving quite well with the 115 grain I was using.

Great video! I could've sworn I saw the handle reciprocate though 👀 little close to the face aha
It looks like a little mini mg42! I like it!
Looks alot like my Sub 2000 just a side folder... I do like the build quality on this one much better.
9 mm carbines have become pretty popular I wish somebody would make some Hi BC bullets specifically for mag fed's 9 mm carbines.
Webley revolvers have used latches like that barrel hinge for more than a century. And they still seldomly have issues besides since it's only firing 9mm strength shouldn't be an issue I like it. It's practical and compact
Waiting For mine at This Moment!! Can't Wait To Suppress It! Love the design and mag storage!
It firing when not fully latched closed is a real safety concern. S&W should be made aware of this happening. Maybe do some testing to see if it will fire when not properly latched and what happens if a case ruptures. It should have a safety to prevent firing when not latched properly.
The extra mags and the ability to keep a red dot on it makes it that much better than the Sub 2000.
The deal breaker for me is no iron sights. Call me old fashioned, but I believe all guns except shotguns should come with iron sights.
That shotgun came out and you never heard a word about it again. This is gonna be the Same deal.
I got the notice for your video, but damn 6 or 7 other channels posted this exact pcc at the same time lol. Great video as always
“Gotta a couple of guys in the rear back there”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wish Kel-Tec would do a sub 2000 in .45acp. Set up for 1911, mags. I have mine set up for Beretta 92fs mags. I love the gun. I am seriously considering this S&W too. Two is one and one is none.
Actually the Hipoint carbine can be modified to take 1911 mags, for a cheap cheap pcc in 45. No folding but still pretty compact
Kel tec has great customer service.
Quarter of the way through the video. I’m in love! Hopefully it takes regular M&P 9 mags and isn’t too expensive !
It takes the 15 rounders too. Around $600
$659 MSRP ;)
Not sure how much this will cost but I am loving my Extar EP9, they are great for the money and mine has been totally reliable if anyone is looking for a 9mm carbine on a budget.
The size is a bit of an issue, not really able to fit in a backpack is its major drawback. If they made it able to accept a lawman tactical folder then it would be ideal.
Now S&W needs to make 30 rnd mags.
Just picked mine up and I'm obsessed
I’d love to see this in 45acp
The only way to “over-insert the magazine” is to use a > 15 round mag without the spacer, then hold the mag release button down while you’re seating the magazine. Not an issue at all.
We're not here to bash the sub2k, but let's bash it anyway! Lol I can't wait to get one!
I would think the mag holder is mainly for storage. Otherwise, just place those mags in mag pouch.
i love the keltec sub 2000... but i havnt bought it because it folds over the top... with optics its annoying.
My big negative is no iron sights supplied with the rifle. Otherwise this would be a good combo with an m&p.
If they ever make one in 10mm I’ll be in line 😊
Great first look!! Thank you. I was looking at the Sub2000, I don't like the polymer trigger system, but I do like the Glock mags which is what I'm oriented for. Both look like viable options for a concealed carry.
Didn't Kel-Tec make 1,2, or 3 of these starting in 2001? Glock mag compatible? I know I love mine. Cheaper and lighter.
A cumbersome extra mag or 2 is better than no extra mag or 2.
Wow...the S&W Sub 2000
Looking at slow-Mo 13:25, it appears the bold slide is reciprocating.
At this point I feel like Hi Point oughta throw a folder on their 10mm carbine and show S&W and kel tec what’s up.😉😂🥴
gives a MG34 vibe =)
Time for this channel to step up and review the Extar EP-9. Smooth recoil for a blowback and hysterically fun to shoot. And super cheap.
Step up and review an EP9.
Now that's something I'll never read again. If you want budget 9mm pcc get a Foxtrot Mike.
For anyone reading this thinking "maybe I'll get an ep9"
It's plastic.
The issues with the EP is it cant accept a folder stock and some trigger packs wont work like the wide open trigger, etc. Other than those issues, it is smooth.
I hope keltec does a gen 3 that folds in an optic friendly way. Glock mags will keep me with the sub2000
it's refreshing to see innovation coming from more manufacturers, but I think this will live in the shadow of the sub2K simply because the Kel-Tec is available in Glock magazine configuration.
