What should u do if u were supposed to be on the lease but the landlord and your roommate basically make the deal behind your back ? Cuz that's the situation I'm in at the moment and tbh ion want to pay for a place to live if IM NOT ACTUALLY GAINING FROM THAT credit wise there's no point that's a waste of my money so boom the landlord basically said we going to do a month to month lease right but then I didn't get to sign it but then I find out that it was actually the real lease so not only did they go behind my back they also lied about a legal contract to me so I'm basically living at my house to not gain from that what should I do

Hi, Walter. The rules surrounding lease agreements are different depending on which jurisdiction you live in, but generally it is best to ensure that you are specifically named on your rental agreement.
Rental agreements can always be updated, so you can ask your landlord to amend the agreement to include your name. You could also enter into a separate agreement between your landlord and yourself, known in British Columbia, Canada (where we're based) as a "tenant in common" arrangement. You can find more information on how this works in BC here, as an example: tenants.bc.ca/your-tenancy/roommates/
However, you should investigate the options that apply where you live. If you aren't named on your rental agreement, you may have issues in the future if you have disputes with your roommate or landlord.
Best wishes and thanks for commenting.

If one roommate move out at the END of the lease and one stay. does the one that moves out get half the security deposit back ?

It would depend on the agreement between the landlord and the tenants, but the most likely scenario would be the security deposit being returned to the two roommates. Then, the remaining roommate would sign a new lease with a new security deposit.

Thanks for your question! We're based in Canada, so we can't comment specifically on tax matters in the US.
The answer would depend on the arrangement you have with your landlord and roommates, such as whether you're subletting or simply sharing expenses. It would be best to consult a tax expert in your jurisdiction to find out exactly what you need to report on your taxes.
