      I wish capcom could give us the ability to take out all bullets from our loaded guns.
      Why: lets say u found a new pistol (lets call it pistol B) in resident evil, that pistol is better than the pistol u are currently using (lets call it pistol A). But pistol A is loaded with ammo and you want to take out all ammo from pistol A and load those ammos in pistol B but capcom dont give you that mechanic so it kinda sucks.

    Regarding the cut scene where Leon throws the knife into Salazaar's hand, I think you could argue this was replaced by him just plainly shooting him in the head right before his boss fight. Seriously that part made me laugh so hard my first play through because I was actually saying out loud why doesn't he just shoot him in the head during all these interactions they keep having. And then he does it.

      It was scary till I realized that you can stand with your activated lantern in the open and nothing will happen to you.
      It gets a bit more tense after you lose your lantern however if you pay attention you soon realize that quite a few enemies from the pervious section are missing which lessen the moment and in addition to that the whole running away sequence wasn't particularly challenging for me at least.

      Because, I spent the better part of an hour doing Ashley's section by itself never realizing you can USE the lantern to stun knights. The room with the 4 gongs took me half that time and I died so much. I came up with my own way of doing all the gongs and not get attacked by knights (start North West gong and finish at North East gong in a U-shape setting them off is the best way). Unsure if I missed something the game told me or I just wan't intuitive enough to aim with the lantern but yeah, that's what happened to me. I think my favorite part of RE4(r), is the continuity between it, RE2(r), and RE3(r). In all Resident Evil games, prior, you knew the names of the characters, you loved them, but it always felt disjointed; you had to do "research" in order to piece all the events together. With the remakes, all of it flows so fucking smoothly that the Resident Evil Universe FEELS real. Leon's bitterness, and change in demeanor from RE2(r) to the opening sequence of RE4(r), feels like trauma; like it personally affected him. His demeanor change, whilst seeing how much more confident he is in combat, whilst still keeping some of his "dorkier" quirks, makes him FEEL like a real person you're connected to.

      @@MultiKamil97honestly it’s not the VA fault for lack of direction or context, but at the end of it it caters to her mysterious spy personality. I get it, she’s a bit stiff, but at the end it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
      1. Didn’t use a celebrity; typically results in a TERRIBLE representation of a character.
      Ex. 1 - Ronda Rousey as Sonya. Dogshit. Honestly.
      Ex. 2 - Megan Fox as a vampire in MK1 (forgot that characters name because she did such a poor job I didn’t care to remember).
      2. VA tried her best, but again, with little direction and context it’d be kind of hard to do a “superb” job.
      I know reason 2 was already explained but I think all considering, still a good job.

  • @lued123

    If that laser sight mod does happen, be careful with it. The laser sight is really good in this game because it makes every shot count as fully focused. You don't have to wait for the reticle to tighten in, and you get the stagger chance and crit chance bonus every time. So if the eventual mod just adds laser sights to everything, that'll throw off the intended balance unless the mod author accounts for it.

    • @lued123
      @lued123 Рік тому +10

      @@Jose-se9pu I don't think the camera mod is nearly as big of a deal. It does make the game a bit easier, but in a way that affects the whole experience equally. The laser sight mod would only benefit guns that didn't have it to begin with, so it'd either have to buff the existing laser sight guns, or nerf all of the guns that gain access to it. Or nerf them if the laser sight is equipped. Or at least limit it to new game + where balance is pretty much out the window anyway. If you don't account for it, the Blacktail becomes even more crazy and the existing laser sight guns become obsolete garbage.
      To be clear, I think the limitations Capcom added are kinda dumb, and I wish they'd chosen some other way to balance it. Like, the Blacktail literally has a scope rail on it, but you just can't use it because they wanted the gun to be a certain way. But if you just give every gun instant focus with no other changes, that throws off the balance between guns massively.
      Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if the Blacktail *does* end up with pretty much guaranteed stagger under that mod.

    Then you're attacked by like 4 of them and they're pretty aggressive. They don't hit super hard, but grab you quickly.
    Then you enter the mines and they become much harder to see, it teaches you to go slow and watch the environment.
    And their final area is great, super dark and there's only like 3 of them, but theyre damn near invisible.

    I honestly am happy to hear you feel this way about the Remake.
    I honestly say it's better than the original not only for the better balance, but the fact it has more survival horror focused and gives some characters more lore. It feels like it more connected to the re universe as a result and feels more like a RE game. I enjoyed the original as a game, but the focus on action with horror taking a huge back seat hurts it for me.

      @Sparda G It had horror in places, not the same thing as the RE games that came before.
      All REs had some form of action, no doubt about that. However, that action wasn't the primary part of RE, it was secondary. RE4 though, it flipped that idea.

    I think that focused shots should have been a consistent stagger. It starts to feel more like evil within or dead space than re4 when you're going through several encounters without ever getting a melee opportunity due to rng (on hardcore). The beat em up and crowd control mechanics have always been what separates re4 from something like dead space and I don't think making them rare on hardcore was the right choice. Towards the end of the game I was just killing every enemy with three focused red 9 headshots without ever getting a melee opportunity. Making it a consistent stun only on focus shots would have been the nice middle ground for me to change up from the original while still keeping the melee aspect in play.

    Thanks for the video! It's cool to see how varied opinions can be about the details.
    On my end, I think the Verdugo encounter in RE4 was the most memorable fight in the game. It was the scariest boss fight where I felt the most terrified, so to see only tweaks in the remake made me happy. Don't mess with what's broken! I do miss It (U-3) though...
    I'm also on the opposite end of adding regular enemies to boss battles. It's the ultimate crutch in boss fights, so glad Capcom showed restraint there. And while I agree that Salazar had a more dislikeable personality, the game does let you know that it was Salazar that undid all the effort of his family to keep Las Plagas buried. It gives us a clearer reason to kill him other than being a petulant ma-child. Overall, I do agree that for the most part the boss fights were not memorable encounters, but credit to improving the lead-up to those battles with better narrative devices.
    And the soundtrack in the original was overall better. Ganado II music was more intense, Mendez boss music was suitably creepier, Salazar's was more exciting, Infiltration, etc. Remake did better with the Verdugo music and sound, the new Gigante battle in the castle and for el Regenerador, but overall the music was just good but not what I would play in the background.

  • @dansbigfanguitarist
    @dansbigfanguitarist Рік тому +3

    I think the laser sight was removed because of a chain of changes that derive from being able to move while aiming + the fast pace of combat. Basically, in the original, wherever the laser sight was, you hit every time. They clearly wanted to force the need to be more patient and calculated with shooting and force players to be precise with shots instead of relying heavily on the laser sights perfect accuracy to carry you. So they added the cross hairs instead which balance the over abundance of handgun ammo with inaccuracy, which I also think is another deterrent to abusing the handgun.
    I also love that the two best handguns (blacktail and red9) can’t even use the laser sight, as this is another balance change. They are more powerful than the rest of the handguns, but thus are less accurate. If you want the accuracy of the laser sight, you must sacrifice the damage ceiling of the best pistols. I think this overall adds to the incredible balance of the weapons system, as every weapon has advantages and disadvantages, with really only a few weapons being significantly better than their counterparts (LE5, Killer 7)
    Also, the cannon sensitivity is so low I think because it’s supposed to add to the tension of trying to aim it while someone is trying to attack you/it’s a really big heavy cannon, so it’s be dumb to see it spin around at the speed of sound

    • @DeadEndScreamer

Even when it comes to U3, the first half of the boss is pretty meh because you don't even fight it, you're running away from it the entire time in the hanging shipping containers, it'd be much more interesting if you instead used a grappling hook to fly around the arena that a certain character already has ;) so fingers crossed I guess

The first meeting with Saddler was something that introduced you to a big bad that would essentially haunt you and Ashley for the respective rest of the title. With him doing the "evil guy is evil for evil reasons" and revealing the plan to you, that was much more of a solid introduction to the main villain of the game than in RE4 Remake where its basically "Hehe, Big Cheese egg you now, and here is evil cutscene". Still loved the game though, to bits in fact. I accepted most of the changes with open arms, though I also miss being able to pay for an ammo upgrade and get a full magazine. I felt the same way you did though and took it as more of a lean into the survival horror aspect of the game so I let that go pretty quick. All in all, solid release and remake, and a game I'll definitely be telling my survival horror fan friends to play it.

    The opening village section was the hardest part. Everything else was relatively easier. I had such a blast.

    An excellent video and i agree with mayo at the end , this feels like a "better" game than OG re4. Even the most die hard fans of re4 (going out on a limb here but i consider myself one) would say that the pacing dragged to a halt during the island section. Island is massively improved now. I think the fire room and U3 might be incorporated in the ADA DLC , if not then still not a big issue.
    The basic heart of re4 to me is the "combat - treasure - upgrade" loop which is translated wonderfully well in this remake.

I may have spoiled myself by playing the original game before picking up the remake, but I am just not enjoying the experience at all. I played on Hardcore, found the experience tedious and restarted a fresh game 75% through my first run, and tried different things to what I started out doing, and it was still a tiresome experience to play. I don't mind resource management, I don't mind difficulty, but I find the REm4ke in conflict with itself and what the message it conveys to me. Does it want me to play it more aggressive, more action-oriented way? Enemies are sponge-y and inconsistent when it comes to staggering them, and it doesn't drop enough ammo to really play that way. To the point where soft-locks in instances where you're skint on resources and the game offers none in an area where you need lots to get through it. They give knives regularly because the knife breaks so often, so it's not really an option to play defensively either. Does it want me to just run from one end of the map to the other? That's just not very fun to me. I see and appreciate what it's going for but there's an internal conflict in its design that really puts me off from finishing my playthrough.

    RE4 Remake is still an action horror game with survival elements. A survival game will punish you in a detrimental/irreversible way for dying. A survival horror game is that but in a horror setting.

    • @dansbigfanguitarist
      @dansbigfanguitarist Рік тому

      Ehhh, that feels super nit picky. If that’s the standard, then I can’t really see how the majority of RE games are survival, since they all have ways to save and have non irreversible consequences. If that’s the survival horror standard, then what game even has “irreversible” consequences unless you can’t save your progress at all?
      To me, and since I’ve heard of the genre, Survival horror has always been by definition a game where you are put in a position where you must survive against horrifying monsters, creatures or people.
      Almost every RE game has been a survival horror game, with really only RE6 being a game I’d say has “survival elements” as they really never pushed you into a state where you felt like you were trying to survive.
      The original RE4 turned the formula around by instead creating this sub genre of “Action Survival Horror” which is the same formula of trying to survive the horror, but with simply more options to help you do that. Sure, there’s less of a survival feel to the game when you have so many ways to play the RE4 remake, but it’s undeniably still an Action Survival horror, it’s just found an incredible way to add more action while also adding more horror (darker setting, more detailed monsters, faster, tougher and stronger enemies) which makes surviving hard af if you don’t manage your resources well, which clearly makes the game an action survival horror game in my opinion.

    • @underthemayo
      @underthemayo  Рік тому +2

      Yes, it's still an action horror game. But the first one to make me not need to be defensive when someone calls it survival horror.

    • @TheCyclicGamer
      @TheCyclicGamer Рік тому

      @@dansbigfanguitarist Yea it's how I view it, which is why it may come across as nitpicky.
      One thing I came to realize when playing modern survival horror games is that I stop being scared after dying the first time. I think this happened first with Alien Isolation. It's when realizing that that I feel this is what most survival horror games are missing.
      If you take RE, the original games have a limited save system with the ink ribbons, which on the surface may not seem that different from checkpoints, but they are, because where checkpoints keep track of your progress for you at no cost, you had to keep track of your own progress at the cost of a limited resource with the ink ribbons, and since ink ribbons took up space in your incredibly small inventory, it wasn't viable to carry them all the time because you would need that space for something more important.
      You also had to use the ink ribbons on the typewriters, which in the original games were far spread out in safe rooms in between enemy encounters, so there was an element of tension in the decision making of progress of saving in the original games. You can't tell me you saved everytime you walked by the safe rooms in classic RE. The detrimental consequence to dying in classic RE was potential loss of important progress. Not 30 seconds to a minute, but one hour to a few hours, or even in the entire run. That's why no save runs are so intense because if the person playing messes up and dies, there goes their entire run.
      Simply put, if you have no reason to fear dying in a horror game, then you have no reason to fear the things that can kill you, or at least that's how I see it. It's a difference between a game being visually scary and mechanically scary. Even non-horror games like Minecraft get this right, it's the reason why the creeper is the most notorious enemy in that game, not just because it can kill you quickly, but because of the detrimental/irreversible consequences you have to endure when it does so. Minecraft is not a horror game, but dying in it can be scary, that's the key difference.
      As for RE4, I understand that an ink ribbon system won't work for a game like this. So what I propose instead is take a page from Devil May Cry, and have end of chapter rankings that reward you bonus pesetas based on your performance, and one of these variables can be how many times you died in a chapter. No death? Cool, here's a bonus, but decrease that bonus for every death you take, and it would work too because you can't go back and undo it via a chapter select like in DMC, not unless you reload an earlier save.

    One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention is that the shooting range rewards are all random. Because you can get duplicates and the number of tokens are limited it's pretty much impossible to get all the charms on a single playthrough. The overall reduced accuracy of guns also negatively affects the shooting range because of the skull tokens you have to shoot requiring precision, but all guns overall have lower accuracy so it can make it pretty frustrating at times. I pretty much only did the shooting range for the challenge requirement.
    On a complete tangent the minimalist challenge requires you to use only a pistol and knife which is fine, but I found out the hard way that eggs count as weapons if you throw them so I had to restart my playthrough as a result since I did the merchant quest to dirty the Salazar painting.

I face palm at that.
