Pedro Cardoso One of my door hinges broke. I need to replace it. The hinges also rust a little and are hard to align. Other than that, things are pretty good.
App is awesome - just like the Ecotech Radion one but for that I just plug it into my computer with USB and do the settings and then unplug it. I have peaks and troughs during the day so seeing it on a Kessil is a crucial factor for me along with the visual appeal the tank with the light.
Do you need just one dongle for all your lights? So I guess the dongle is just like the connection to your phone like the cable is to my computer.
There are 2 things that will make me pause on getting one... 1 - Will they last and 2 - Can I get past them already being more expensive than Radions and then having to buy this dongle.
It seems like it would have been just as easy to offer a computer / browser app and connect with a cable - so not providing it would really annoy me if I got one.
For me as they will go into a T5 hybrid the form factor important but it is a reason they can be more expensive than the XR15. But the 'extra' diffuser for the XR15 and the 'extra' dongle for this are both going to be big negatives I think. There is also the Red Sea light now and I feel like Illumagic are also being used by a lot of pros especially in Asia.
From what I have seen if you want the tank to look amazing the 360X is the best light and I heard it grows coral much better than the old 360. But you are paying a premium for that and with the dongle it is significant.
You just need one dongle if rest of the lights can be connected with K-link (USB-C). The narrow reflector is another $30, so the price does creep up fast if you want all narrow versions. I do feel like they will last you a really long time though. I have never had a Kessil go bad in almost 6 years and the customers service is good. I needed a new reflector for my AP700 once and they shiped it for free ASAP. I think Kessil needs to push the lights down to $400 each and sell the dongle for $50 or less to stay competitive. Otherwise people will load up on the new Red Sea LEDs, especially for hybrid fixtures where the T5s can make up some of the spectrum.
You influenced me to not buy a light from a company that doesn’t have an app and forces you to buy a dongle.
