If anybody knows who Buddy Rich was then you know that Neil Peart was the Buddy Rich of our time. I have been listening to Rush since the late 70's. Peart's drumming has always been an inspiration to every kid who wanted to play drums and those of us who didn't play drums. His drum solos and technic was beyond this world. My condolences to Neil Peart's Family and to the Rush family.

Thanks for putting this together. Of all the videos I've watched seeking something to fill a void I can't describe, this did the simple thing of highlighting the response from musicians who all have been moved in some way by Neil and Rush.
I can't believe he's gone. His lyrics imprinted on me when I was barely a teen and have continued to inspire me for nearly 40 years. Like so many others, Rush has been the musical backdrop for my life. He was, and will always be, legend. RIP, Neil.
I myself can't call him one of the greatest drummers Neil was the best drummer of all time period and there will never be another drummer like Neil . He was so much more than just the best drummer ever writing songs was something he did so well . Neil and rush will be with me forever!
Here's a little story I have to tell. It pretty much sums up how influential Neil's playing was. Back in the early 1980s when I was a teenager, I was the only Rush fan in the town, all my friends were into AC/DC, Van Halen, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, and so on. I managed to convince my friend Ralph to listen to the LP, Fly By Night - Ralph being a guitarist and a huge fan of Clapton and Hendricks, was keen to hear how good Lifeson is, seeing as I'd been bugging him for a long time about Alex's style. Ralph reaction after listening to the entire LP was: Man, that drummers good.
How fortunate are we to have lived during the same period as Rush, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Tool and the likes!!!!❤️🤘❤️🤘❤️🤘❤️🤘❤️🤘 RIP Professor Neil Peart!!!!
Didn't really get into Rush till the late 80s. But I remember people come into High School with the moving pictures t-shirt song after the concert and I remember thinking who is this band. Later on my dear friend William got me into list in the rush and I was a huge fan from been on. If you're a big rush band there was a documentary that's on Netflix I don't know if it's still on there right now but it was an amazing documentaries probably from about seven eight years ago. Rest in peace Neil.
I saw rush for the first time n Peterborough Ontario....I couldn’t believe how tight they were, you could close your eyes and you couldn’t tell if they were playing live or if it was a cassette you were hearing. Unbelievable sound for a three man band...R.I.P Neil

"In 1992, Peart was invited by Buddy Rich's daughter, Cathy Rich, to play at the Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship Concert in New York City. Peart accepted and performed for the first time with the Buddy Rich Big Band." So..... 🤷🏻♂️

Neil Peart was a legend. I have so much appreciation for what he brought to music. I also have so much admiration for the living legends playing tribute to him. Danny Carey is perfect specimen to play tribute to Peart. RIP Professor.
He was the greatest living (progressive rock) drummer after the death of the greatest (rock) drummer, John Bonham, in 1980. Two different styles of drumming, but equally impressive and iconic. Both of these guys should be in anyones top 5. Its time to listen to Rush all weekend starting with the underrated Caress of Steel. Thank You Neil, you are an inspiration
Pearts passing has leveled more 50+ year old men to a 3 day crying session (myself included) than any celebrity death I recall. We all feel the loss of what he meant to us individually, that loss is profound and deeply personal.
Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, John Bonham and Neal Peart changed drumming forever. Mr. Peart you will be sorely missed, Rush was one of my favorite groups to come out of the 70's and to watch and hear you play was like, (in my humble opinion) watching an artist paint on a canvas. Except your brushes were drum sticks and your canvases were your drum kit. Missing you already. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends as well as to Getty and Alex and their families and friends. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten your legacy will live on forever through the amazing body of music you so graciously left to us and I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart.
A massively inspirational man, not only as a drummer and lyricist for Rush but as a human. Being a Toronto born and raised like Geddy and Alex, I fell in love with Rush after hearing 2112. The lyrics took me away to this futuristic post-apocalyptic world that was so vivid I felt I entered another world every time I played the record. Neil Peart's incredible orchestration was like nothing I ever heard in drumming, and I was hooked at an early age. After beating furniture and Tupperware into submission with my drumsticks as a young drum student, it was time to buy a drum kit, which I modeled after my hero Neil Peart. Still shocked at the passing of this behemoth giant of a man and artist and what he meant to me growing up, but I feel grateful for all the gifts that Neil shared with us all during his time on this planet, including the dozen times I was fortunate enough to see him live in Toronto...it hit the musical community here pretty hard but we're all better musicians and people because of Neil's light. God Bless Neil Peart and the extended Rush family.
Perfomance Car Maniac do you know the difference? No there is no difference. If you don’t know that a god exists then you’re an atheist. It’s like saying that you don’t know if you’re hungry.
I'm so grateful that my generation was one of the many that grew up with Neil . I first heard Moving Pictures when i was in 6th grade and it moved me even at such a young age and became forever implanted in my sole . I still listen to it and am still blown away . That drum sound is like a good meal . And the performance is STELLAR !!!!! And i'm a vocalist . I would say that is the best all around Drum sound ever . I don't think too many drummers that know better would disagree .
I remember air drumming to Rush and using two hands to "play" parts he'd use one hand to play. It was so fast I couldn't get my head around how he did it. Love Rush. Have for over 40 years. RIP Neil.
Playing my Test For Echo CD a little louder tonight. Fare thee well, Professor. But not goodbye. We’ll meet again. Until then, thank you for inspiring me in my lonely teenaged years.
Neil was no doubt in the pantheon of greatest drummers to ever get behind a set, but many overlook what prolific songwriter he was also, His skill with the pen was just as mighty as his drumming was, what a diverse body of songs and subjects he wrote about, I respect him on both skills, sticks in one hand a quill in the other, his absence will be missed in both of these fields
As a former drummer who played drums from 6th grade through my freshman year of college this breaks my heart. Over the last few years we've lost some great drummers. Vinnie Paul of Pantera in 2018 and now Neil Peart of Rush in 2020. RIP Neil ❤😭
We truly have loss a grate drummer. Neil Peart will be missed but never forgotten . A true gentleman In every way ,a mentor And teacher to all drummers alike . Thank you Neil and to his band Mates Alex and Getty . A true class Act to all and for not just simply doing the norm for the money. Keeping it real to the philosophy Of the band and there ever evolution of the group . My deepest condolences to his Family band mates and fans alike. Percussionist, Drummer,Musician Teacher and fan.
Dude I'm 47 years old and this makes the twelve-year-old inside of me cry. Rush was the first hard Rock band I ever heard. And no I was not a hater I absolutely loved Geddy Lee's voice(some people don't like it you know that deal)
Neil Peart may be the most influential drummer of all time. I know many will argue the point, but that guy changed the way thousands of musicians and drummers approached music and drumming. Yes, Moon, Bonham, and many others had influence, but for me Peart's style transcended anything before that era. He was a new precedent that thousands aspired to, self included.

@@WhisperingEcho33 amy whinehouse?uugghhh you cant be serious?.she wasn't allowed in as she got booted at the door.damn druggie
I can't.
I started guitar at age 11. I heard RUSH at age 13. My first Rush concert was the Fly by Night tour. These guys taught me so much. I will NEVER forget "The Professor"
I’m totally crushed! He was the most incredible drummer ever! Heaven has another angel! Boy we are going to have some kickass Thunder from the heavens! RIP Neil Peart ❤️🙏💜🤘
This dude is crushed looks like hes gonna sob during styx limelight cover
Spot on
who knew styx was still around
Until I saw this clip, I forgot Larry Gowan was fronting STYX.
@@TheSateef I saw Styx live last year, they were great! I also saw Rush on one of there last shows of the r40 tour, they're amazing!!!
Pearts passing has leveled more 50+ year old men to a 3 day crying session (myself included) than any celebrity death I recall. We all feel the loss of what he meant to us individually, that loss is profound and deeply personal.
1/10/20 the sun became a little dimmer, the sky became bruised and the world took a sigh of breath. Rest your tired soul, Professor!
2112 as well as Moving Pictures such wonderful music- glad I went to see them many times! RIP- a loss of genuine talent!
His drumming was pure, root chakra, poetic theater.
GOD please keep Neil and please Bless his family with peace in these difficult times.
God does not exist. Neil Peart was an avowed atheist and knew this well.
@@elmoblatch9787 actually he was agnostic.
Perfomance Car Maniac do you know the difference? No there is no difference. If you don’t know that a god exists then you’re an atheist. It’s like saying that you don’t know if you’re hungry.
Les Deffner actually there’s no difference. Agnostic is a politically correct way of saying atheist.
@@justme-qt3dg Dude, be cool!
Farewell to a King
RIP Neil Peart 😭
The most influential musician and song writer of ALL TIME!!!!! The Master has fallen and will never be forgotten.
He was called the professor for a reason he was the greatest drummer of all time lucky for me I got to see Rush 15 times live R.I.P Neil
I remember air drumming to Rush and using two hands to "play" parts he'd use one hand to play. It was so fast I couldn't get my head around how he did it. Love Rush. Have for over 40 years. RIP Neil.
Lambeau Field played Tom Sawyer during commercial breaks tonight.
Everybody loved what he had to offer.
Im so glad i caught them at R40, my first rock concert ever, and the best rock concert ever.
There’s a week I’m feeling so sad abt Neil. Rush is my forever band! RIP Neil! 😔
A true icon. His inspiration will be with us forever.
Now Keith, John and Neal are having the best drum circle ever! Hard to get used to it.
Playing my Test For Echo CD a little louder tonight.
Fare thee well, Professor. But not goodbye. We’ll meet again. Until then, thank you for inspiring me in my lonely teenaged years.
I really like the Test For Echos album. I felt it was underrated.
Great idea, I think I will too!
RIP Neil ❤😭
So hard to believe he's gone. I saw Rush many years ago. He will be missed.
We truly have loss a grate drummer. Neil Peart will be missed but never forgotten . A true gentleman In every way ,a mentor
And teacher to all drummers alike .
Thank you Neil and to his band
Mates Alex and Getty . A true class
Act to all and for not just simply doing the norm for the money.
Keeping it real to the philosophy
Of the band and there ever evolution of the group .
My deepest condolences to his
Family band mates and fans alike.
Percussionist, Drummer,Musician
Teacher and fan.
of our time of all time sir
Dude I'm 47 years old and this makes the twelve-year-old inside of me cry. Rush was the first hard Rock band I ever heard. And no I was not a hater I absolutely loved Geddy Lee's voice(some people don't like it you know that deal)
AMEN! He was one of the originals & surpassed all!! RIP Rock God!
When you hear thunder in the sky it's Neil playing his drums in Heaven
Steven Sandefur I’m gonna use that if it’s okay with you
I will think this everytime there is a storm!🙏
@@ericcopple169 Me too!
I think it is great these Bands Honoring Neal was Aasome Thank You.I grew up listening to Rush the memories are still there I am Sad for the loss
Tragedies happen it's a sad time we lost another legend of this community RIP Neil Peart and my prayers to his family and friends!!!!!🙏🏻
Rest In Peace, master of drums
