- Hello everyone. in this video we're going to watch 2 Guitar Performances of 2 Legendary Guitar player over "Comfortably Numb Guitar Solo"
One is Performed by the Creator "David Gilmour" and another is performed by Legendary Metal Guitarist "John Petrucci".
My Goal to create in this video is to inform you that "Slow solos" always are not the easiest ones and why is it hard to play Gilmour solos.
#pinkfloyd #rockmusic #guitarsolo #rockandroll #davidgilmour #johnpetrucci #heavymetal #rock
David Gilmour - dressed like he’s just arrived to fix your plumbing, crushing the greatest guitar solo of all time, and acting like it’s just a normal Wednesday. Absolute legend!
Absolutely a dream come true to see him play at MSG a few weeks afo
Damn straight!!
You nailed it. 👍
absa- fucking-llutly. saw him play cn on top of the wall in 1980 as cool and cassual as if he was ordering a big mac.. dude is cool.
David always dressed like that. When I saw Pink Floyd do Dark Side of The Moon a week before it was released he was wearing a black tee with jeans. Then again I saw Pink Floyd do Dark Side but doing a couple of songs from Wish You Were Here he wore the same thing. So who cares what he's wearing, its about the music he's playing. And this thing about who plays Comfortably Numb better, why compair a song he wrote with other players. David is a great player who brought new sounds to music. Who can play a song better than the person who wrote it.
Why would you even ask this? Of course it's David Gilmour it's his solo.
David Gilmour wins! It's not even close.
@@LL77309 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yes! But the best performance ever of comfortly Numb, it's Dave Kilminster Who are on the top.
David Gimour is the creator of this amazing solo and Dave Kilminster put the perfection on that!

When I come home cold and tired!
I can’t afford to put the heating on!😩
@madcyril4135 good to warm my bones beside the fire
I too have cried countless times to gilmour's guitar playing. He's the reason I started playing 31 years ago and his music has gotten me through the worst times of my life. His guitar is what our feelings sound like and it never gets old, I only grow to appreciate it more.
Let's just enjoy the fact that Petruci plays this to pay tribute to one of his musical heroes
Yeah 🤘🏻🤘🏻
100%
@Jake-eq3ub tributes are good, I go see a few of Pink Floyd's tribute bands, and I would have enjoyed the experience of this gig for sure. And tribute bands can excel in their performance past the OG's performance. Rare but Australian pink floyds visually better in their own way.
i agree, but tbh i dont think it’s a fair comparison, they’re two completely different players
How is this even a question? David Gilmour plays with so much more emotion and feeling.
I suggest you to watch the full video 🤘🏻.
Watch Gilmour's part and you'll be pleased with my words
@Iliya.Guitar I agree with the other guy, sure this guy can play it but not even close. If u have to ask you'll never know.
@@Iliya.Guitar Rogers ego here 👀 You will never please this lot 😂 of Davids fanboys it's my song anyway 😂🍀👍
Exactly that. Gilmore puts soul into it
This is basically ridiculous. That solo belongs to Gilmour; it's a part of him; his soul; like his personal property.
David Gilmour is the greatest guitarist in my opinion. It isn't a matter of technique or skill with fast patterns. It's because he can make a guitar truly sing. He can make you feel those emotions he pours through his guitar. He's definitely inspired 3 generations of people to pick up the guitar and pour their hearts into it.
Hi there Iliya - I love your passion and I really liked your cover of the "comfortably numb" solo. Not only you master the guitar but also you put heart and soul into it. You nailed it !!!
In my opinion, in this case:
John Petrucci plays guitar with technical and skill.
David Gilmour plays guitar with feeling and heart.
That's make David Gilmour authentic and unique.
And I choose David Gilmour.
Good said. Totally agree
That is the point!
He is so slow, he cannot achieve the guitar skills of petrucci
Amen
Total agree
Nobody can ever match the original style and sound of David Gilmour. ❤
If Petrucci misses a note, he fills the void with a flurry of notes. If Gilmour misses a note, he bends that fcker till you cry.
False. Petrucci doesn't miss notes.
@redskullz1249 lol fair
@@redskullz1249 Then why is he doing a cover? Yea he can play guitar, but why copy the greatest and claim to do it better? He lacks creativity so he relies on others. If he is so good where is his tune?
@@jefferybragg3148 What the hell are you on about? Do you not know John Petrucci is? LMAO
David Gilmour, he wrote it , the other guy is an impressionist and is just playing his version of a legends genius.
It's like those artists that cover iconic songs with vocal gymnastics, it's still just a cover.
There is a noticeable tempo variation, Gilmour is playing to a slower tempo he gives the notes more space to play in rather than filling it up with more notes, I saw him at the Royal Albert Hall in October and whilst he is obviously older at 78 he is still brilliant.
Exactly this.
Agreed
I was also in the RAH in this October
Gilmour plays vibrato like a beginner. Petrucci plays selected as Petrucci🥇 ✅️
Me too!
Both favorite guitarists of mine. But nobody touches David's work on this. Nobody is even in the league.
you got that right. it's not a fair comparison how do you out play the Master of his own music
Andrey Korolev Comfortably Numb.... Gilmour is still the GOAT though.
Both Guitar gods for very different reasons. But no one gets close to Gilmour playing comfortably numb
Exacly that's my poinf
Nice playing bud! l enjoyed hearing you, you're very talented!
I agree 100%! I have always felt David's emotion in his guitar play. Very close to my heart.
I think JP would choose David
🤘🏻🍻
In fact... back in 2010 (I believe) Petrucci went to see Roger Waters' Wall show live at Madison Square Garden and someone asked him for an autograph but also asked him what he thought about Dave Kilminster's rendition of the CN solo and his response was: "much better than mine!" I think the video's still up here somewhere.
You can feel it from quality of David's tone that he plays it with soul and passion. guitar and fingers are just extensions of his soul.
Exacly 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Gilmour's fingers work like vocal cords. That's why his tone is as distinctive and expressive as a human voice. Petrucci (who is a genius in his own right) can play a hundred notes in ten seconds, but Gilmour's fingers generate perhaps *thousands* of micro-variations that are simply not replicable by anyone else, because we don't have those same fingers or the neural networks that control them. Those things are unique to him, as unique as a singer's voice, which is why trying to play his material as well as him is an impossible task! Lovely tribute though.
Couldn't agree more with this guy
Fully with you. Gilmour’s solo is unbeatable. So much passion.
Mago.
🥹 👍👍
As much as Petrucci is a prodigy, Gilmour's playing is out of this world. This solo is and will always be my favorite of all time. Right in the feels. No matter how many times I listen to it, I get goosebumps.
Just saw Gilmour at New York City - Madison Square Garden Nov 4, 2024 (opening night). YES YES YES!!! I give you credit for admitting! I also cried during this solo. Not only is his method of bending beyond the extreme, but it is a soulful masterpiece that just digs into me. One of my late Father’s favorite songs, seeing him LIVE for the first time in my life was an “out of body” song experience for me as a fellow musician and fan
I too was there that night, and I cried through the two opening songs and wish you were here! What an incredible night
I saw Pink Floyd in Madison Square Garden in 1987 in the nose bleed seats from a scalper. I stood on my chair and did air guitar during the solo and screamed Dave on the top of my lungs. Saw the band again in 1988 at Nassau Coliseum for the video of that show delicate sound of thunder. Unfortunately, I could have gone again in the NJ Meadowlands in 1994, I think, but had no way to get to NJ. A guy I worked with won tickets from the radio station, I believe. Too bad I didn't go, it would have been the last performance of Richard Wright. 😢 for me to see him.
we cried at the Hollywood Bowl as well. :)
Went to see on the 6th!! It was my dream come true!
What a ridiculous question, no one comes close to David Gilmour doing comfortably numb, which is the BEST solo of all time.
3rd best solo
Fantastic video, fantastic analysis of the styles and dynamics of what makes Gilmour so special, and solid rendition of your own. Loved this whole video.
I have watched the videos of you playing painshill and car fest over and over and am so excited for your progress and looking forward to watching you going forward
I'm sorry you are actually asking this?
Yeah! this is really unfortunate.
Just for some views
Otherwise he wouldn't ask for sure
Don't get me wrong. John is an amazing guitar player and if this was a song that neither had written it would be up for debate but David wrote it and loves it and plays it in a way ONLY it's creator can
It's an absolute clown question
+40 years
You don’t see Gilmour covering Petrucci solo’s do you. Enough said.
Poor Gilmour, he'd catch Parkinson's disease if he tries xD
@@StarletSizzle Wow, that escalated quickly xD
Not a chance in hell
NOBODY CARES. David is a legend.
This month I went to his concert. I remember bawling my eyes out when he played this solo. For the first time in my life I was happy simply from being alive.
I feel you brother, Gilmour’s solos mean a lot in my life too
Iliya, hello from the other side of the world! (cute little bird!)
I feel the same passion about David Gilmour! I feel lucky...I saw him twice!
Thank you for posting!
Cu
So impressed with your solo at the end. Didn’t focus on the technical but you are one of the rare few that locked into the emotion that Gilmore delivers. Well done!
David gives the best soul uplifting goose bumps everytime, no matter how many times he's played this solo
There is no comparison to make between the two guitarists of completely different styles
Yes of course my message is something else I am saying slow solo doesnt mean easy
Not compresion...
That's it ! ;-) Nice!
@@Iliya.Guitar Ron BUBLEFOOT sons of apolo the best solo confortably numb of ALL times...

Nobody sounds as good as Dave Gilmore. Nobody!
David Gilmour wins in any situation. But if you pick the Comfortably Numb solo from the Erls Court show in 1994, then it's perfection coming out of the guitar. The best guitar solo of all time.
I agree David Gilmour is one of my all time favourite guitarist ,depth, emotion ,tones is perfection to me.
Gilmour's guitar is in pain....
Speed doesn't make you the best guitarist
John is great but my point is that Slow solos aren't the Easiest all the times
@Iliya.Guitar Gilmour sound is only his.None else can play pink floyd solos as him
That applies to everything, it's his music he came up with it of course no one is gonna play it like him@@GigiGiogi-g9f
@@mahmam3128 So ,i do not understand why to compare Gilmour with another guitarist.
@@GigiGiogi-g9f yeah it's weird, guitar guys treat it as some kind of a competition instead of just enjoying the music

Your sensibility and your love for Gilmour make me subscribe instantly. Btw, your performance is amazing my friend.
Touches me everytime i here this solo, and believe me ive heard it many times over the years,..no one will ever come close.
I just spoke to John Petrucci.. He said this is absurd and that he is a mere disciple of the legend David Gilmour..
What kind of question is this, absurd. David is no match. Have some respect to Gilmour.
The question was not literal. Watch the video.
I totally agree with you, Gilmour is able to touch the soul. I recognize the goose bumbs and the tears. Your playing of the solo is also much better and has more feeling than Petrucci. I wish you all the best and keep safe. Greetings from the Netherlands.
DG. His solo just has more feeling and soul. Plus it’s DG solo.
@@weets69 Exactly, one thing is covering a solo another is understanding a solo.
Saw him perform at MSG in NYC a couple of weeks ago. It was very overwhelming to say the least. It was a lifelong desire and it still seems like a dream. I’ve been to a ton of shows in my life and I don’t think anything will ever parallel that performance for me. Tears were flowing like water. Rock on my man your cover is incredible!
Gilmour from the first note till the last!
Power and soul! Pure magic!
I saw him in Paris and Werchter on the pulse tour...
Unforgettable moments. I love this men !
With all my respect for Petrucci.
Gilmour by a mile. theres playing it very well from a technical standpoint then theres putting the feeling and emotion in it and making the guitar weep
There is something about a Gilmour solo......it can make you cry and you dont know why
Exacly Gilmour's magic
Amen
One of my favorite comments from someone was "He hits you in the feels"🙏
Every time ! I just saw David life at Hollywood Bowl -and Yee this was it ! Everyone there I believe had a otherworldly transforming experience
I´m so glad that you feeling how special and magic is David Gilmour. He realy playing with heart and soul.

Great performance Ilya jan. I had the chance to see Roger Waters live in concert 4 times but never saw David Gilmour. They are my idols . To be honest I am more on Waters side but Gilmour is a master also. Cheers bro !❤️
Dude!!! your performance was absolutely excellent. I dare myself to say, your cover was much better than the Prtrucci's [:LOL]. but seriously, what you played did definitely bring the feeling and connection to the audience. you make us Iranians so proud. keep it up. I wish one day we all could have him (Aghamun Gilmour) in Iran for a grand concert. BTW, he is my idle too
It has speed and tones but unable to define the term 'numb'. David Gilmore is perfect, matchless
Oh, I didn't expect you are Iranian. This is the first time I've seen a video of an Iranian UA-camr. As someone from China, the least free internet country in the world, I know exactly how you feel. Keep going dude!
My thoughts exactly..👍
Believe me it's far worse in iran than china. Heavy censorship of internet is just one of our problems.
For example a lot of obstacles for musicians.
We are being held hostage
Great video, nice work bro. Your Parrot is super cute too :) And your version was really impressive! You nailed the artificial harmonics which are not easy.
Got goosebumps all over me when grandpa brings some comfortably numb solo on the table!
David Gilmore is the guitar God.
lol… David Gilmour’s solo can be played even by new kids on the block……there is no technically involved much…..

@@Apollossonit's not about playing as many notes as possible and breaking your fingers, but there is beauty in simplicity and coming up with such an emotional one of the best solos ever, I'm not saying that other guitarists aren't good, but gilmour has something that no one else has.
Yes, I can play comfortably numb from wish.
David Gilmour is one of the most vocal guitarist. Playing the notes is not the challenge.

How can someone have any doubt? David Gilmour rules
It's the tone and feel that makes the difference,I love how Dave Gilmore's guitar sounds so tube driven it's clean and not layered with so many effects and distortion it's crazy how he gets that sound and it's just so clean and crisp he hits harmonics without all the effects

I didn't even watch the video and still knew who was better!!! David Gilmour of course!! Easy!
David, Gilmore is the best, And the, Original, Awesome excellent, super 😊😊
John Petrucci is my favorite guitar player of all time, but I’m sure even he would say David is the best! It’s his song, no one can play that solo the way he can. Still, I love JP’s interpretation too!
Petrucci vs Gilmore??? Are you crazy??? Both of them are Legends.....each of them in their own way! No comparison possible!!!
David just got the feeling in his playing. Cant be copied or played better than him, in my opinion
I think nobody will ever play GIlmour's music better than Gilmour, but your own interpretation is better than Petrucci's, to my ears at least.
Huge fan of JP and I like his version but Gilmour’s is much more heartwarming
Love your solo. Massive soul and emotion expressed. Keep going, brother. 💯❤
Absolutely! Nobody does Gilmour like Gilmour. It's not about talent, it's about feelings, soul and 80% magic! Long live the Gilmour!!
performing this solo in his 70s at Pompeii was majestic... absolute perfection ❤

Its a great cover from Persia.i appreciate the clarity.
You are absolutely right: Gilmour is Magic on the stage. His improvising over his magic creations can go on "forever" and would not get boring at any time. These solos played by him are pure emotions. Perfect. Nothing more to say - he´s over the top 👍👍👍
Listened to your solo .
Very good job and your love for this track is replicated in the performance 👏 🙌 👌 😊
David of course. He puts soul and feeling into the solo. The other dude just wants to be fancy
He put soul and feeling to his solo!
Saying JP wants to be fancy gotta be joke of the year.
No one can compare with David❤
What a stupid question !
Thank you for providing this incredible set of great guitar solos all in one video, including yours which is awesome as well. I put your video at the top of my Guitar Playlist, which later on in the playlist includes David Gilmore's solo at Pompeii 2016 twice, once just the solo and the other the entire song. Fantastic! Thank you very much!
I have seen him live four times: two with Pink Floyd and two as solo artist, but watching him on youtube I think I feel the same as you.
Gilmour, without any doubt.
Even your parakeet is moved by Gilmour's playing!
Petrucci, è un indiscusso fenomeno.
Tecnica paurosa.
Note piene di cuore, intrise zeppe di cuore.
Sopra a tutti.
Gusti personali.

Yea , its a feeling. and super nice performance, yea, but the feeling is only the dude gilmore. thanks dude good channel!
I am not sure, why we have to compare a solo played by different guitarists...
Surely Petrucci is technically a more virtuous Player, but Gilmour is the guy who created the solo...
However Gilmour plays with more heart and soul...
