    A Whole Big Lot Of Diopter Talk: endmyopia.org/...

    The Jake Origin Story: I grew up with glasses, 5.00 diopter high myopia, and yet today have 20/20 natural eyesight. No surgery, no glasses, I figured out how myopia actually works and how to reverse it (and no, not eye exercises!) The mainstream tells you it's impossible - but the whole concept that myopia is an illness, is complete unscientific nonsense (a 100 billion dollar a year profitable nonsense, though).

    Actually, (slightly) uneven length legs is a real thing and can be one of the causes for shoulder/neck pain.

    • @adriangpuiu
      @adriangpuiu 5 років тому +2

      a shorter leg modifies the grounding receptors at the neuro motoric junction ... that meets same neuro oculo vestibular one ... it's normal to have neck shoulder pain and maybe that person already wears glasses as he dose not have any more a proper left ZOA ....to get rid of it you just have to learn how to reduce pressure on the ulnar nerves .... ;) and you also get rid of the ocular dominance... that means proper breathing should simulate walking and seeing .... as we loose lateral movement ... that is happening...

      Why? For prescribing you the best corrected vision? People are not symmetrical. Eyes are not symmetrical. You may need a different Rx in each eye. Optometrists are trained to get the best corrected vision, while keeping the prescription balanced in both eyes. This is something optometrists train for 7 years. They know what they are doing. Jake spreads misinformation constantly. Trust your optometrist more than this guy

    My sister went through optometry school. She told me they learn about the bates method. The school taught her that the method is dumb and cannot heal your eyesight. That eyesight can only get worse and the only things that can cure your vision is surgery and glasses. Optometry school brainwahses our doctors.

    Makes total sense. We accept that we have a dominant hand. We don't force ourselves to write with our non-dominant hand

      Your logic is flawed . Writing is something you learn. If you learn to play piano you train both hands. Same with many sports. Both hands then become proficient to produce beautiful music.
      Training sets the limits. One can become just as proficient with either hand.

    In a way I love my eyes being .25-.5D different. Sometimes one eye is clear, sometimes the other, sometimes both are pretty good but hardly ever both are off. Ciliary spasm the left is HD, right is 20 30. No spasm, left is .25 hyper, right ALMOST 20 20, short by .12 to .25D So Jake is right, ur eyes dont have to be dead even for good vision. Of course Jake is right LOL

    I have to disagree with you on a couple points Jake:
    It might very well be the case that one eye gets immensely worse than the other even without the use of lenses. I can speak from my own experience. I generated a 2 diopter gap without putting on any glasses. A difference of 2 whole diopters is by no means due to ocular dominance.
    The Second thing is, that the very first "prescription" has not to be because of pseudo myopia (ciliarly muscle spasm). If you are not using any glasses but keep the bad (or better said terrific, awful, terrible) habits on (in my case it was sitting hours and hours in front of a screen with a distance of less than half a meter) the eye nevertheless seems to elongate. Even without any help of these "concave friends". As proof may serve my starting "prescription" of 2.75 Diopters on the right eye!
    Thanks for the good content Jake. Keep on!

      Look at it statistically. Jake is correct ! there are outliers to any statistical distribution. Some people are even born blind. Ocular dominance is related to dominance of one or the other side of the brain. Left hand or right hand dominance.

    I'll tell you what the outcome of the over-correction is, because it happens to me. Dizziness. I was having this dizziness spells and had no idea what it was. Was going to the Doctor thinking I had a parasite or something. Took me a while to discovered it was my new prescription glasses.
    It's a theory of mine that the over-correction is the issue, but I'm pretty sure about it. Especially when it comes to astigmatism.

      You probably started using one eye over the other and developed a habit of it. Do you read with your head propped on one of your hands, with one eye closer to the page than the other, or maybe lying down with one eye closed? Have you spent a lot of time looking through some other type of lens or a gun sight with one eye closed, etc.? Something like that?

      No. Glasses can also have different diopter numbers for each eye, as there are two separate lenses secured to the frame.

    I don't think these optometrists are idiots, the more polite & descriptive label would be ignorant.
    They simply don't know how to critically think nor question dogma. Takes one to know one, I used to be very ignorant on topics I now find to be "no brainers"
    For instance, I questioned why I was brushing my teeth with toothpaste and decided trying an experiment. Only GENTLY brushing if I had junk on them after eating or upon waking, not even using water, with a soft nylon brush. 3+ years later and my teeth are whiter and healthier (compared to friends with receding gum lines) WITHOUT using toothpaste
    This is what brought me to EndMyopia. I said to myself, "If I don't need tooth paste, maybe my glasses are also unnecessary."
    5 days after a disciplined attempt at active focus and healthy habit (little close up and much distance viewing outside) and I've gone from about 60cm clear vision in bright sun light to about 75cm in cloudy sun light. Those are tangible results I literally saw with my own two eyes
    So my point is, some people are ignorant about questioning whether what they know and practice is actually necessary (including me at one point), and/or in a state of distorted perception of reality (flawed biases & heuristics such as confirmation, spotlight, availability, etc) which keeps them in the dark
    So I hope if anyone who's ignorant about questioning dogma, as I was, simply scientifically tests alternatives periodically for efficiency's & validity's sake. And for those who are enlightened, arriving at the realization that we too were in the dark at one point in various asprcts of out lives; a realization that will take away frustration, increase empathy & understanding, and incentivize us to figure out why people act as they do to hopefully produce better interactions, e.g., convincing a biased optometrist that maybe they're scientifically undisciplined per the scientific method lol
    Great video and keep up good work!

    • @endmyopia
      @endmyopia  6 років тому +2

      Of course they're not. They trained to sell glasses, and they sell glasses. The effect of this is frustrating, basically half of my life I spent behind glasses squinting a the world because of their "help".

    • @scripturefundamentalist4391
      @scripturefundamentalist4391 6 років тому

      For sure, according to your centimeter converter I was way over "prescribed," (-4 optometrist calculation, to your website calculator reading of about -2 after 5-6 days of active focus and habit change) that immediately made me feel very stupid for falling into another 'for profit' trap.
      So yeah, as you've said before, some of these people just don't have the best of incentives & intentions, nor "education."
      But don't get so frustrated (easier said than done), just remember this is but one of countless 'for profit' scams that are considered scientifically and socially correct.
      Check out "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler (one of the highest, if not highest decorated marine general in history), so you see that the optometry scam is but a small drop in the scam bucket.
      Even the people partaking in these scams don't realize they're screwing themselves, their kids and their community/world over for short term gains. And all we can do is as you, change the world one person at a time with results people can see with their own eyes (pun intended)

    Focus on eyes comes mostly from your brain, closing one eye and using your weak eye would require more than anything brain adjustment to the new challenge and eyes do have a auto-balance system that your brain wouldn't even know how to address if you force all light going into your weak eye as you are inverting the process all around. Short story you need to see with both eyes open and measure the weaker eye shouldn't be a thing, is like asking someone to swing using his weaker arm when in fact you need both to swing properly is just a dumb thing that might take human to evolve a bit more around their stupidity. All you need to know is that if one of your eyes is completely screw there is something wrong with your auto-balance system or the eye. I'm pretty sure that by removing you good eye entirely after a year or two the brain would adjust to this new system but otherwise there is no point trying to fix something that ain't broke.

    So... like having a dominant hand allowing us to write with more precision, or having a dominant leg that makes us travel in a wide arc when we get lost LOL I guess that makes sense. Irritatingly my years of wearing glasses has made the gap a lot bigger then it should be. Working on it though. Question is, How many diopters difference SHOULD there be naturally? Or should it be less then a diopter?

    • @Pumpped
      @Pumpped 5 років тому

      This guy doesnt know what hes talking about. Having a dominant arm or leg is not optimal, even though its normal. Ideally everyone would be ambidextrous to create far greater balance. I highly doubt ocular dominance is a good thing.

  • @almedinahajdarpasic137
    @almedinahajdarpasic137 4 роки тому +1

    I can agree with you that using bigger correction for non dominant eye is wrong. The deal with dominance is thay we all have a half of the brain that is taking the lead. That is why we can write with one hand and we are more agile with that hand. Same with eyes you dominant eye will always be better. Lenses later mess with that. That is to prevent haos in the brain. In some forms of epilepsy they cure it with cutting the corpus calosum - the bridge that conects the two hemispheres of the brain and you get instability, inability to work both hands or control one hand.... One eye should be stronger.

    • @WmTyndale

      Everything is a matter of training. A pianist can train both hands to be equally proficient and produce outstanding results. Many limitations are cultural. One could train both eyes to be acute. We set the limits.

    Hi Jake. I have been reading your blog for a day or two. I haven't got glasses. I am 19. However since past few days I think I have developed some ghosting vision. I also developed some irritation in my left eye. I think because of too much mobile/pc usage. I have never visited an optometrist, and I don't want to. I believe he will straight away give me glasses. So I was reading your blog and found that myopia always starts with pseudomyopia , also I don't believe that my axial length would suddenly change. I am trying to reduce pc and phone usage as much as possible, please provide any further suggestions. I have never been diagnosed with myopia and I am also not sure whether I have it. Thanks.

    I just recently went for eye exam ( I haven't gone for one for over 15 years ). I have always been nearsighted but I've always chosed to not get glasses. I feel my sight has improved over the years ever so slightly, mainly my close up vision. My close up vision is seemingly quite intense and during the exam the Dr didn't know what to say about it except that I have beyond perfect vision. Besides that my farsight came in at R -0.5 & L 1.0. Then they tried to push me into getting glasses. The first thing I thought was I didn't want to correct my vision with two different lens and asked them if I could have both lens be -0.5, they looked at me like I was crazy but said "sure whatever you want" and then I left to look for better frames than the ones that they had in store. Now that I've done some digging I'm not sure what's better when it comes to lens. Being such a low prescription I've been reading and been told different things on all three of these lens ( 1.5 CR39, 1.53 Trivex, 1.6 Hi-Index ) and it's tough to figure out what one I should choose. My Dr. was pushing Polycarbonate but I don't want something with such a low Abbe Value. If you have any opinions about this please feel free to express your thoughts.
    I'm new to watching your shows but so far I like them, good stuff and keep them coming.

    Jake, when I first started learning all this, the terminology of “higher” and “lower” was confusing: “higher” diopters means a LOWER number (for instance, -1 > -5), and a “higher” diopter ratio really means a LOWER ratio (if both eyes are the same, then the ratio is 1:1, which is the HIGHEST fraction possible: 1/1 = 1).

With diopter numbers that extreme, you realllyyyyyyyyyyyyy need to get started to save your vision because you are at very high risk for some serious problems like retinal detachment. 😰 You can get back to natural 20/20 though if you are diligent about it. Laser surgery would just solidify your extremely high risk and cut permanent lenses into your eyes, which does ***NOT*** even address the actual problem of myopia-axial elongation. Your eyeball has grown too long (by a few millimeters), which is the problem, but all the laser surgery would do is cut a lens into your cornea…and leave you at risk for retinal detachment (etc.) AND CONTINUED INCREASING of your very high myopia subsequently. Totally TERRIBLE idea. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

      Look up anisometropia and amblyopia. You can wear a patch on the good eye for a while to strengthen the weaker eye. You need to deal with this!

    This is the first video ive watched, and though i normally dont trust the establishment when it comes to health care, you sound like an idiot here. People have all kinds of muscular/skeletal/neurological asymmetries. That doesn't imply in any way that this is an optimal or normal thing. We live in a toxic, sub-optimal environment. Perhaps youve considered that the way we read and write is always left to right? Surely you're aware that something neurological could affect each eye different? I really cant figure out what the purpose of this video was. Are you suggesting theres no need to address ocular dominance through any means?

    • @endmyopia
      @endmyopia  4 роки тому +2

      I mean, honestly. Google Scholar, "ocular dominance". There's not much guessing or philosophizing necessary here. It's been stated countless times that this is a normal part of visual biology function and requires no correction. That "toxic environment" argument fallacy, though. 🦄

    under prescribing one eye will only lead to both eyes not working as well together reduce your depth perception (judgement of distance and position of objects).
    also the strength of your prescription has nothing to do with ocular dominance. If you have two people with the same prescription (e.g. R:-4.75 L:-4.25) one person their dominant eye might be the right eye (-4.75) and the other person their dominant eye might be the left (-4.25) even ghp8they have the exact same prescription.
    Do not listen to this potentiallu damaging advice and go see a trained professional Optometrist who you feel you can trust. This misinformation makes literally no sense to anyone with literal basic knowledge of Ocular biology and Optometry

    • @endmyopia
      @endmyopia  3 роки тому +1

      Agreed 100%. Go see an optometrist, pay a 5000% markup on glasses, don't go to Google Scholar and search "lens induced myopia". Most importantly, don't ask questions. 😬👍🏻

      Thanks for your reply. But you still did not answer the question. It has been found in multiple scientific studies that the dominant eye has more myopia than the other eye. Does it not dismiss your theory?
