Good idea options besides eye drops.
There doesn't seem to be much evidence that fish oil pills work but Fish oil does (I still take the fish oil capsules and don't eat enough fish). Take Multivitamin with vit A.
Other things to help:
1 olive leaf extract taken orally (anti-inflammatory) Study shows just as beneficial as Omega 3 supplements, not that most studies support Fish Oil (but it could be big Fish Companies want you to buy more. I say why trust anyone?)
2 Probiotics. Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus acidophilus are common and easy to get and shown to help Sjögren’s syndrome which always includes very dry eyes and mouth as
3 Pumpkin Seed oil taken orally is shown to be helpful in one study
4 Bromelain along with quercetin and vitamin c. No big study.
5. Choline and apple cider vinegar . This make acetylcholine which is proven to help dry eyes. Studies show acetylcholine helps dry eyes. Choline is in many foods but I take a supplement and then mix a little apple cider vinegar in with some juice. Try to reduce sugary drinks as sugar is not good for anything.
6 non-synthetic vit B12. A study shows this but probably doesn't help much.
7. Astragalus .. proven to work with rabbits and it boost white blood count and immune system. No human studies.
8. Glutathione. The mother of all Antioxidants No study I know of but this free-radical scavenger helps cataracts and is good for eyes and entire body.
9. blueberries .. finally a food to eat besides fish. Studies show it may help. Like other fruits it has anthocyanin that provides eye protection and may even improve your vision.
10. NAC . I take the tablet but is used in eye drops. Shown to help Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) which is responsible for most dry eye.
- I did use stinging nettle but I think that could dry your eyes out.
11. Exercise Your Eyes daily. I do convergence exercises but look them up on Google.
Also: Virgin coconut oil helps to leave on or rub eye gentle with or do MGD massage with but don't let it get into eye but just leave it on but if a little drips that's fine no need for concern. Probably better than most eye wipes which you could be bad for inner eye if they permeate it. Though once in a while or more often for an an eye scrub is fine. One can do short or long MGD exercises but be very careful. A study supported virgin coconut oil for helping dry eyes (not sure if this was in drop form) and not damaging eyes at all.
I did use stinging nettle but I think that could dry your eyes out
Why do follow up studies to reduce intake of unnecessary or harmful supplements and hurt Big Pharma profits?
Other avenues:
Punctual Plugs
Lipiflow
I was told at Duke hospital my eyes was the most severe case of dries eyes they had ever seen at the back of my eyes I saw where there was a divice that could fix the worse case of dry eyes any where I see you evidently do know any thing so I'll keep schering
why not eat fatty fish for omegs 3 instead of supplements?
I'll save you the trouble:
1) Artificial Tears 1:48
2) Omega-3 4:58
3) Anti-inflammatory eye drops like Restasis (3+ month course) 7:39
4) New In-office treatments like Lipiflow or plugs (though plugs could add to the problem too) 11:38
5) hot compresses 18:29
6) Autologous Serum 19:37
7) Scleral contact lenses 21:27
If anyone was wondering what works for me:
I have dry eye plugs which work pretty well. They help. I had them put in on May 15, 2019 and as of this edit (June 12, 2020) they still work.
Systane Ultra helps a lot for me and I use it every morning. The other systane types do nothing for me. Systane ultra actually for some reason are the only drops that relieve my symptoms. That includes all other brands and types.
I find blinking hard or squeezing fairly hard when I blink helps too, maybe because it releases some oily tears when I do it. Anyway, I know this is anecdotal, but it's what I've found helps me.
Don't give up hope. You're going to have to try a bunch of different things, and hopefully over time you'll find the right way to manage this. It probably took me over a year to find the management protocol that works for me. A doctor or doctors can certainly help in this journey, but a lot of it is trial and error.
PS- I also take a maqui berry supplement in the morning. Google the studies on that if you haven't already. No clue if it does anything, but I take it anyway, along with omega-3, vitamin D, etc (and I eat the keto diet). Remember: Dry eye is an inflammatory condition. This is why treatments often focus on reducing that inflammation. It is destroying your tear glands. This is why I stopped eating crap and why doctors prescribe stuff like restasis and what not.
Nice
Thanks this information helped me
You save me

My dry eye symptoms get a lot worse when I’m dehydrated, so make sure you drink 2-2,5 liters of water/ day. You’ll notice relief in around 3 days 😊.
Thank you. I was diagnosed. My dry eyes are chronic. MY Doc simply just told me I had dry eyes and said there was nothing that could be done. NO treatment for it. You... have given me hope for some relief. Appreciate you!!!
Dude your a lifesaver, i was suffering with super dry eyes, used omega 3 daily after 2 weeks my eyes feel so much better in the past ive been to 2 eye doctors and they never took time to explain like you do. Thank you so much champ!
How did you cured it? Can you please give some suggestions

Tears are not enough! Having hit my 70’s I am not overweight, I can do a 10 minute plank, and I have heart rate in the 60’s, and great blood pressure despite the diabetes, but here I am with newly discovered contact dermatitis and now the abomination of dry eyes. It makes you want to weep.
For what it is worth, this is what got my MGD under control:
-Celluvisc preservative-free gel drops during the day (they are extremely thick...thinner drops from every brand do nothing for me. These do blur vision for a few minutes after application but they last a long time.)
-Nighttime ointment with white petroleum + mineral oil, preservative free (several brands make this sort of product, but I always avoid preservatives, which some products have)
-Bruder heat mask in the morning + evening for 10 minutes followed by an eyelid scrub and gland massage (this is critical as it keeps glands from dying)
-Omega 3 DHA/EPA supplementation (evidence on the benefits here are a little mixed but I figure it can't hurt)
-GLA omega 6 supplementation (some evidence suggests this may have more promise than omega 3 in improving tear film stability)
-HEPA filters in the rooms I spend most of my time in to bring allergens and PM2.5 levels down to next to nothing to reduce inflammation caused by microscopic particles
-Increased humidity to 55% with distilled water (tap water contains minerals that a humidifier will put into the air and this will harm air quality)
-Taking a break every 20 minutes from looking at a computer/phone screen to look at something 20 feet away and then purposefully blink hard for 20 seconds to work those glands (this is called the 20-20-20 rule)
-Switched to daily disposable contacts (they breathe better) and reduced my contact use to less than 6 hours a day
This got everything under control in about a month. It eventually led to me stopping my use of contacts and then I got SMILE corrective surgery. Different things seem to work better for different people, so I can't say if any of this will help others, but it did work for me.
Wow I really appreciate you sharing this! 💯💯
Thank you soo much from Curacao. Here we have too wait more than 6 months to get an eye doctor to diagnose the problem.Watching these videos helps me understand and treat my dry eyes.God bless you...🙏🏻💯
We use a drop of castor oil or moringa seed oil or coconut oil or even ghee in the eyes in India for dry eyes before going to bed. One more thing I like to mention which is not easily available is human breast milk for eye injuries. Any time one of us had an eye injury my grandmother used to ask us to get couple of drops of breast milk from the neighborhood nursing mothers and she used to put a drop or two couple of times and our eyes were healed.
I was an Optometric Assistant, and you have covered everything I learned plus a few new treatments I was not aware of.
Elizabeth G, this video interview with Dr. Laura Periman might blow your mind then.

Well, after eight years of suffering and being told there’s no fix for this problem, I hope you learned also, that colloidal silver, for eye drops, and unprocessed coconut oil in lashes, can heal chronic infections like blepharitis, and give relief to dry eyes.
After 17 doctor visits I took ta watchin' on this vides and I massaged n' warm compressed my eyes n' cured the blacked tear ducts.

How are doing with your eyes
i have dry eyes i can tell you the methods in the video totally sucks. the actual reason usually one has dry eye is because people are looking at the screen too long. blue light from lcd actually causes damage and generates a lot free radicals, damaging the cells responsible for generating enough tears. the methods above mostly works temporarily that isnt a long term cure. cmon using surgery and tools for a simple dry eye? dry eye can easily be fixed by foods that has anthocyanin, eg blueberries or dried blueberries black currant berries sweet potatoes eggplants, or foods with lutein like spinach water cress kale etc, all you need to do is eat handful everyday and your dry eye problem is gone. these works by clearing the free radicals and and repairing the cells, just try and see how amazing these will work.

@@valeridimitrov5309 vitamin A might work im not sure, but i know green tea extract will work as well. any antioxidant supplement that gets through the blood ocular barrier which can clear the free radicals and repair the cells are supposed to work.
My grown son has Kerataconus and the Scleral Lens has been a LIFE CHANGER!! He uses the PROSE system and his insurance covered it as a prosthetic.
Awesome! You have taught me more than my Dry Eye Specialist! I have Sjogren’s Syndrome and my chronic dry eyes have gone untreated by a specialist for too long.

Oops, Dr.Allen I have one more quick ? For you. When applying my cosmetics my eyes start burning (if not already) and tears (big tears since the plugs) run down my face. Worse when applying my eyeshadows. One day their fine, the next they react like this and horrific headaches. Is this common with severe dry eye syndrome?
Thank you so much for your in~depth tutorials. You have helped me more than my optometrist. Somethings got to help, it’s really getting to me. Have been seeing optometrist every two weeks for 8 weeks now. See her again after the 1st of Jan.
I wonder why my ophthalmologist has not told me any of this information. Thank you for this information.
I also like this doctor's video very much. It helps me a lot
Thanks!
Wow! Really appreciate that Roger!
I went to get a eye exam to get new glasses and told the Doctor that I had dry eyes and he told me to use baby shampoo on my eyes. At the time I was doing eye drops and after several weeks I quit using drops unless my eyes felt gritty or burning.
Checkin in Doc from Western NC... Blue Ridge Mountains.
GOOD GRIEF I've had dry eyes for 15 +years, 2 eye injuries, dog stuck her nose in my eye and later stuck the point of mother-in-law tongue plant in same eye. Eye Doc said he could see the imprint of the dog's nose on my eye.
Cataracts removed from both eyes, 10 years apart.
Now on eye drops to prevent glaucoma.
Appreciate your detailed information. Had my eye doc explained all of this I would not have stopped my drops for dry eyes.
I was told to use the ointment at night but another doc said it wasn't necessary.
Since your presentation here, I will be doubling down on my drops and ointment.
No, have not heard of the things you asked about.
I'm from Ohio, lived 4 yrs in St. Paul, Minnesota as a kid. Lost a white boot in the snow and didn't find it til spring when it was floating down the street in the melting snow.
Speaking of eyes & eyelids...
When I got home that day after searching for my boot without any luck... I had FROST on my eye lashes. I'll never forget having scalloped potatoes for supper. It was quite the warming dish.
I plan to listen to all of your videos. You know your business and must be pretty smart to be able to talk soooo fast. lol Only problem is you leave the rest of us behind in the dust. LOL again. Just wish you'd slow down just a bit. I'm in the south now and getting older.
Keep up the great work.

Have chronic dry eyes. Had Lipiflow. My eyes improved for about 3 months then right back to the dryness. Cost about $1200 for treatment. Dr said I should do it again. Hard to afford this treatment a couple of times a year as not covered by insurance.
How is it for the moment with your eyes ? For me it was the same , 3 months better and then again dry..
@@castershoeve my eyes are still dry. I only did the lipiflow once. I did put the tear plugs in my eyes. Those worked great for about 8 months then my eyes got dry again. I thought they might have fell out and had them checked. But no they are still in there but just not as effective. I use refresh preservative free drops a few times a day. They help but I don’t believe my dry eyes will ever go away. I did find that using a sleep mask at night helped a lot especially if my partner wants the ceiling fan on. It seems I don’t close my lids all the way which causes evaporative dry eye. Who knew. Try the sleep mask. Good luck.
My dad is suffering from dry eyes, and I'm binging on these videos. So, are these cures or treatments? I'm confused.
Thank you for your tips and advice, doc. My eyes felt like there are sand inside. Artitificial tears helped instantly. I also take Omega 3 daily.
Are your dry eyes gone now?
I got chills when he said he is not sponsored by anyone in this clip--🎉thank you Sir.
Hey thanks! Glad to hear that. Most of my videos are not sponsored but when they do have a sponsor I always call it out in the video and in the description, also I report it to youtube per guidelines. I also never do paid reviews.
you should be avoiding preservatives in drops as much as possible because they do cause damage to the ocular surface
Avoid visine

Awesome. We started doing the autologous serum drops several months ago in office. Pretty neat stuff. Xiidra and Restasis are great but the insurance companies are a nightmare when it comes to paying their share. Anyway keep it up, we are training new front desk staff and your videos make great material to get them casually familiar with a lot of what we deal with everyday.
So happy to hear that! Thanks for the great feedback! I like it because I can educate my patient and then have them watch the video if they want to learn more.
I had Lipoflow 2 days ago! Omg! I feel like a new person! I can see sooo clearly after the process. Everyday for the last few days my swelling has gone down and I see soo great! I’m happy I did it.

Xydra drops
Fish oil increased blood pressure, eye doctor suggested flax seed oil to replace fish oil.
Ocuvite soft gels or gummies (Eye Vitamin & Mineral Supplement)
Bio True artificial tears (PF) (Bausch & Lomb)
Plugs didn't work for me, they came out in about 6 months.
Restasis didn't work as well as the Xydra does.
I have an extreme case of dry eye but, not sure if the autologous serum could get compounded where I live!
Xiidra is very interesting! Some people LOVE it but other people don’t. It really seems like it’s something that you just need to try it to find out. Studies on flax seed oil have been good but it seems like there is a much higher dose needed. The one study that comes to mind had about 6grams of flax seed oil per day. How much do you take?
A couple things about Omega 3. 1. The DHA needs to be higher than the EPA. Kinda hard to find but Nature's Way has some called Mega DHA. 2. Needs to be taken with Omega 7. I was taking Omega 3 and was still having dry eye issues. I started taking Omega 7 and don't have dry eye problems. Keep in mind that as with all or most supplements it takes awhile to start working.
What kind of brand omega 7 did you take can it be any brand ?
@@lordfarquaad9478 y would like to know too …🤔
What kind of Omega 7 do you take?
I had Lipiflow about three years ago and it totally relieved dry eye symptoms. It was expensive (about $1,000 for one treatment) but it did the trick. My eye surgeon advised me to put white rice in a sock, tie off the end, and heat it in the microwave, then use that as a hot compress. You have to determine how long--my microwave does this best at 1:12 minutes--be careful not to burn yourself. It's reuseable and the sock can be washed periodically.

Great summary on the current treatment modalities for Dry Eye Syndrome (DES)! Indeed the key is to understand the multifactorial nature of DES, environmental exposure, drug toxicity, autoimmune, ocular surface (eyelid, eyelashes, meibomian glands) dysfuntion, etc...Good work Dr. Allen!
I have had the procedure years ago. My eyes are so much better. I hardly need drops. I use drops more for allergy season.
My MD recommended using Collodial Silver for all things skin related. I have also used this for bumps on my eyelid issue and also find it cooling, soothing and healing for my eyes. What do you think of this? My 75-year-old husband has dry eyes We have been buying non-toxic (organic type) eye drops at our local health food store. These seem to work for a while We also bought blue lenses for our eyeglasses for computer usage. We both take Dr. Mercola's Krill Oil for our Omega 3. We use Functional Medicine and prefer to get to the "root cause" of a health issue. Hello from two senior citizens in SW Michigan/USA.
My doctor suggested buying a humidifier for the home or office. I have not done this yet. But, I notice when there is a lot of humidity in the air my eyes feel better. I live near the beach. Air conditioned rooms are hard on my eyes. I do use artificial tears and compresses which are soothing. Thanks for all the info.

Lee from Japan here...I had bad dry eyes due to taking antihistamines for a runny nose so I put powdered flax on my oatmeal every day and my eyes healed quite fast due to Omega 3 content.
Stop rubbing your eyes !
I have vitreous detachment because of rubbing my eyes. a year ago, my eyes were very dry and itchy so I started to rub them till I felt a severe pain in my right eye(like a cut). next morning, I started to see squiggly lines floating inside my eye (which really affected my vision) and noticed flashes in the side of it. I’m trying to ignore those lines but it’s difficult to focus on objects. I have never been advised to avoid rubbing eyes by any doctor I’ve visited!
Take cara, if you see flashes, it can mean retinal detachment, which is rather serious, needs operation. I have had it
Just saw your channel today. I have had cataract surgery and dry eyes and those doctors have retired.I havejust learn to adjust to changes now that I'm in 80's. Looking forward for more information.
Are used a Restasis for dry eyes, and it’s caused many other problems, including chronic dry mouth (which ruins your teeth). Now I use 500 ppm, silver wings colloidal silver and it helps immensely.
Glad you mentioned omega 3 in relation to eye health. I can vouch for the effectiveness, as I noticed when starting to take a teaspoon of cod liver oil each day (for vitamin D) my eye sight improved greatly within a month, including my night vision. I had not considered the vitamin A or omega 3 content which it also contains, as a benefit. That said, my eyes eventually became so sensitive to seeing in the dark, car lights became a problem. That was fixed with a bilberry supplement. I now include a supplement specifically formulated for eye health in my daily vitamin/mineral regime as well as a krill oil supplement.
What is Billbury and where do you get it? Also how is your eyes now did you healed it? Thankyou in advance.
Adding flax oil to my diet as well as hemp hearts have really helped my dry eye
Trying to find a competent doctor is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

How very TRUE👍
So very true!
Doctors are ignorant about causes and nutrition for curing conditions, they are trained by medical schools financed by pharmaceutical giants to push prescription drugs.
I put a wet flannel on my radiator and keep wetting it when dry. It works better for me than a humidifier machine.
I think I had those scleral lenses when I had contacts and that was the beginning of my really dry eyes. Even though I haven't worn contacts for more than a decade, I still have pretty dry eyes. There are several complicating factors though. I live in a very hot and dry place so I almost always have a fan blowing at me. This tends to make my eyes really dry but I just simply can't tolerate the heat without it. Then, I smoke Cannabis, which also makes my eyes dry. Interestingly enough, I have been studying the anti-inflammatory effects of the cannabinoids and I have found them to be far superior to other topical anti-inflammatory treatments when used on skin. It would probably help inflamed eyes too but obviously it would require much more caution when making such a thing for the eye than it does to extract the cannabinoids into a lipid-based lotion for the skin. Anyway, thanks for the ideas!
Try his remedies. His remedies really work. I did n here i am watching TV Looking at my cell phone and reading. I was desperate I didn’t know what else to do. Went from one dr to the other. Lucky day when I found him.

@Youhann Van dam hahahaha its a bad joke
For many, many months this year and last, I had extreme dry eyes, one more than the other. So dry in the upper left quadrant that I'd wake up with the eyelid stuck to my eye, and opening it ripped the corneal cells from my eye. (Talk about PAINFUL!) Doc said my eye tear duct wasn't plugged up, and he didn't know what was causing this. He suggested Restasis, but said it only helped maybe half of people that tried it. Well, I tried it for 3 months, and it didn't help me at all. Meanwhile, I keep using regular eye drops----a lot---and lately the dryness has improved. (Who knows why?) Gotta get my cataract surgery while my eyes are cooperating now... THANK YOU for all this wonderful information, Dr. Allen. I learned more from you about dry eye than from my ophthalmologist!
H Joe I’m on steroid drops after cornea transplant surgery and my eyes are severely dry.
Thank u I have severe Sjogrens n you’re the only one I found who knows what to do. Ugh. Thank you!!!!!!
Oh my. Yeah Sjogrens is a pretty big deal in dry eye. I should get a video out on that topic. How are you doing? Do you using any of these treatments? How about punctal plugs?
Punctal plugs have helped me a lot, I still use refresh optive advance drops in the mornings and then refresh contacts a couple times a day when I have my contacts in. The plugs allowed me to wear contacts in the first place. Good luck!
Edit: getting the plugs was like the final step of treating my dry eyes, I still use omega 3s, drops, and warm compresses.
Kaleigh O as I said above no drs here will help me. All of this was literally foreign to me. Everyone is ignorant n all of my drs have totally ignored my Sjorgrens n blepharitis. I have horrible luck n am scared to death to get anything put in my eyes. I’m going to try n take the vitamins, use more drops n wash my eyes more. I can’t cry it’s horrible n so sad
@@ladystrange4769 hello I "think" I have Sjogrens... please share w me how you were diagnosed. I'm 51 year old female. DRY EYES, DRY MOUTH, ECT.
Hey doctor can blurry vision caused by dry eyes be curable with the help of omega 3
Actually i hv dry eyes prblm since 6 years. I went to many doctors but no relief...now the prblm as it is but there is a blurry vision in my eyes nowdays
When i use my mobile for a while and then focus on some distance, vision is blurry and after some times it is ok automatically
I was never told about the treatments. I feel my glands clogged. I use heating pads on my eyes twice a day. I still have issues with clooged glands. Ugh
Thank you for this information I now can discuss these treatments with my doctor.
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, wonderful energy and the thorough explanation. Blessings!
Thank you Maria!!!
I also like this doctor's video very much. It helps me a lot
Doctor where are you located ?
Has anyone suffered from dry eyes post accutane? It’s been 5 years since I finished accutane and my dry eyes came back. Now I’m getting chronic styes and I wake up every morning with dry eyes.
My eye doctor said he stopped using punctal plugs, because of cost. 🤷🏻♀️ He said once you drop one, you’re done. But hearing about the dirty drain analogy, I’m glad I dint get them. I’m currently using Restasis. Sometimes I miss a dose, though 🥺
Drink water throughout the day that is keep yourself hydrated.
a year old comment save my eye im a soda person ty your a life saver
Though that is good for you, it doesn't necessarily cure dry eye in those who are already water drinkers...
You are right, when I had retinal detachment the doctor advised me to drink a lot to prevent it in the future
Qi Gong - rub palms together briskly for 20-30 seconds to generate warmth. Place palms lightly on your closed eyes. You can also make small, gentle circles. Repeat several times a day. Works when you have no access to the lipaflow machine or warm compresses.
Thank you for this. I have had it since I was in middle school. I blink non stop and people look at me and I am so insecure over this. My eyes will tear up if I make myself but other wise my eyes are so dry like right now they are and I keep blinking and its just not watering them. I hate going out in public over this and I need to get this fixed. I deserve to be happy and secure not insecure and not want to be around anyone.
Great video! So much information, I've been suffering from dry eyes lately. The computer is taking its toll. Thank you so much for sharing!
Very very VERY Informative video! Thank you so much
So happy you liked it! Thanks for watching!
I needed this video si bad! I wish you were my eye dr. I recently had the most horrific experience of my life. Turns out, Im not going blind - I just have dry eye. If I ever see the whites of my eyes again... ( IT el be a GLORIOUS day!!)
Hi Doc...I'm new to your channel.
I've had dry eyes my whole life. The best thing I've come across is Ocuvite "bluelight" and also thera tears with no preservatives. I used to have the plugs, but my eyes seemed to water constantly. Will occassionally use a warm wash cloth to loosen oils.
Thanks for a great video!
Sitting here in pain. Blocked oil ducts. Chronic dry eye. Doing my daily warm compress so I can start my day and luckily came across your video. Glad I did because now im wondering if there is a link to my eye problems and narcolepsy? Hmmmm
Eat beets, & avocado for internally to moisture your eyes! I observe basically waking up with no dry eyes!!!! Must experiment further to really endorse it!!! Lesser dry with days of no computer glare!!! Thank You Doc, V. Helpful, Greatly Appreciated !!!
I am Manuel from PR and i am a Keratoconus patient. I will appreciate any information concerning this condition.
I've got dry eye. about 6 years. no remedy works . i'm just waiting 4 a miracle. the problem is that we can't stop using our eyes and let them to recover like a wound.
There is some truth to that unfortunately. I hope you can find some help. Have you seen a dry eye specialist?
@@DoctorEyeHealth I've seen several eye specialists and not an eye dry specialist because there is no such an specialist in my country. I can't read , can't watch tv, can't work with pc ........Just a short time . is it a curse of Gods..? ...I don't know. I live with pain. pain is a part of my life. especially my right eye which aches whenever I read or watch tv or else. mornings are worse. my eyes are dry and inflamed . ..........anyway thank u 4 your useful videos. I do the recommendations.
@@marlikparsi7259 which country are you from. I have been to several ophthalmologists in Pakistan. No one treats dry eyes here. They just give artificial tears.
@@marlikparsi7259 Try Scleral Contact lens
@@Dave-gk5yj Does it really work? Have you tried it befor?
I wore scleral lenses & contracted acanthamoeba keratitis end 2019 in both eyes while wearing them. My doctor is recommending sclerals again in the rehabilitation process and I am terrified. Thank you for the valuable information on dry eyes. My glands are so blocked after all the aggressive treatment pre and post corneal transplants. Sadly, that is making recovery very slow. Ordering my omega 3's today and back to daily hot compression.
I so love this guy. Conventional treatment has repeatedly failed me. Would love ❤️ for him to explore holistic ways. Big pharmaceutical costs way too much and does not work for the majority
Thanks Tammy! I do plan to launch a whole series on dry eye in the coming few months which will include holistic avenues.
I’m 57, l went to see eye doctor for red eyes. He suggested to see allergologist, prescribed Pataday eye drop. Pataday doesn’t help with red my eyes.
I have seen a few videos where you included some animations, would you be able to create a video where you show what someone with dry eyes might see, the sort of blurry vision or any other types of visual disturbances someone might see? If you can that would be amazing, but if not, thanks for all the videos and explanations
yeah the animations are not easy haha. very time consuming. But I know of a way I can try to simulate dryness and vision. Maybe I will try to work that into my next dry eye tips video coming soon.

Would you do a video on how to find the best eye doctor in you area? Questions to ask, equipment you should expect them to have, etc.
Beach&BoardFan just go on the yelp reviews it’s not hard
Yes. I need a good dr too.
My doctor prescribed me Restasis. I have been using it for one week now, of course none improvement yet. My question is, should I use it for life?, or for an intermittent way? Your videos are so good!
Hi Dr. Allen! I was diagnosed with dry eyes about a month ago and given steroid drops. A few weeks later I saw a dermatologist for some different looking acne and the doctor asked if I ever felt like something was in my eye. I told her I have blepharitis (rated a 3+). She diagnosed me with rosacea (acne) and said it is connected to dry eye. A week on low dose doxycycline and my eyes are doing so much better. Do you ever diagnose rosacea as the culprit for dry eye? I hope the doxycycline (40mg) and face cream (Soolantra) knock this out. Thanks for your wonderful videos!

I do my own Lipoflow...I run hot water on my washcloth and hold it against my eyes for a minute at a time. I know that it's working because after I do it my eyes are all blurry and covered with a film...and they stop being itchy and irritated.

Also I would like to know if IPL (intense pulsed light) applied to the eyelids is the best treatment for MGD.

Can dry eyes cause dilated blood vessels and redness in some parts of eye?
It may. That is keratoconjunctivitis sicca a severe dry eye. Tears provide nutrients and oxygen to the surface of the eye. If the eye does not receive enough oxygen, blood vessels will go to that place to replace the oxygen needed. Also, this condition is easily infected by viruses and bacteria. In order to provide immunity to that area, blood vessels dilate allowing more white blood cells. Redness of the eye is one of the signs of inflammation.
