Perfect! Thank you! I'm only in 8th grade and I've been learning how to crochet for the past two years. This is my first time making a afghan and I have high hopes for it! Few struggles here and there and I've had to restart a couple times, but so far it's turning out great! Thank you for such clear and easy to follow instructions!
Very retro. Reminds me of my grandpa. He had afghans in a similar pattern on the back of his couch: orange, white, brown, and black for as long as I can remember.
I've been teaching myself to crochet for about a month now. This is the first project I'm doing. I'm so happy with how it's turning out. I'll be making everyone for Christmas
I've looked for a LONG time for this pattern. My GMA made my mom an afghan in this pattern using tan/beige dark brown/peach/orange. It was gorgeous. After my mom died, my sister got all these amazing things my mom made. So I want to learn this to bring back memories. Thanks so much. You've gained a subscriber today!
YAY....YAY...and more YAY.....I finally learned how to do this stitch! I have tried for 40 yrs to make an afghan like this, and could never understand the directions. I have issues with reading a PAPER pattern, but once you show me how to make something and show me what the abrev. in the written pattern are, I can follow along. THANK you so much....you are an amazing teacher! Will be back for more videos to learn more things.
I have made this pattern probably 4 times. I come back to it over and over again. I'm starting another one tonight! This is the BEST chevron video I've come across.
I'm a guy, crocheting now for 53 years, am left handed and crochet left handedly backwards-left to right. You've explained, both visually and verbally, the "tweak at the peak" and the "slip at the dip" beautifully! Now I can go forward with my Chevron aphgan! It's for a friend up in Canada(I'm in the U.S. I have no doubt that this family will treasure my Chevron aphgan gift! ❤️👍🤓🧶Doug
@@CrochetJewel that's supposed to be"skip at the dip". The chevron aphgan-in "lilac", navy blue, pale flat yellow and fuschia will be the even numbered rows. Creme is the odd numbered rows. I've crocheted for years and Ripple is one of my favorite pattern. I comment the work you've done mastering how many chains needed for different size afghans!
Thanks so much for this pattern. Just what I needed - ordinary size yarn in neat tight rows! If someone wants a double crochet afghan there are millions of patterns for those. This is the hidden gem.
Thank you thank you for this. I have so many afghans like this that my grandmother had made over the years and I really want to make some of my own. I’m just starting out with crochet but this is my end goal and you made this so easy to understand! Can’t wait for the day I’m skilled enough to do this!
So happy to find this video. I've been trying to understand crocheting and this video made it less intimidating. This genuinely looks simple and the pattern is easy to follow. The way other people do it is so complicated and they go so quickly I miss most of the information and always have to stop and rewind and it just never helps. Thank you for breaking down so much and making things easier to understand
Thank-you, thank-you thank-you!! Today I decided to crochet and afghan for my sister and even thought I have made many of these in the past, I totally forgot how my own pattern was done and this is PERFECT! You really explained it so well and i can't wait to start!!
I have tried and tried to follow various "ripple stitch" patterns - to no avail. Yet again, your video tutorial worked for me. Many thanks! I especially appreciate the chain counts!! Happy days! :)
Thank you so much for this pattern tutorial. I just wanted to add that if a deeper v is desired (11 up and 11 down) the repeat is multiple of 25 plus 24. I like your edge finish leaving the last unworked.
Hello Amy. Just to begin, your ripple stitch blanket has to be the most complete pattern I have seen. Your concise explanation and your math configuration was spot on. I used red heart with love for the blanket and size I-9 hook. The width came out to 52 inches rather than your 44 but I'm ok with it. I also did the 251 cast in as well. Enjoying the project immensely. Your aunt was a godsend to pass on her pattern and cast on numbers to you. Thank you Amy and many blessings to you and your family. Ken
I am a crocheter and have made many blankets- but have been so intimidated by the ripple pattern in the past. Mostly due to the poor instructions of the one who was trying to teach me. I couldn’t get it right for anything. NOW I understand completely and can’t believe how easy this pattern is. I sure do thank you for showing me how to crochet this pattern! Can’t express my appreciation enough! You are a natural born teacher for certain! Blessings to you!
Hey! Thanks for this video. I needed reminded of the stitch count etc. I am using 3 gauge acrylic, 3.25 hook… so, I needed a bigger chain. I noticed that all the chain measures were 21 stitches apart. I did the math. I came up with 293 chain stitch start for a decent size blanket. It is for my 3 yr old. Should be perfect. I am heading for my third row, and it’s perfect. Thanks again! 👍🏼😊 God bless you.
I am so glad to find your tutorial. I have tried and tried but could not figure the chevron stitch. I am making a chevron stitch for my two grandsons, and my daughter. They like the Vol's. My two grandsons are two and four years old. When they see that I am making a blanket want a blanket too. Thank you for such wonderful teaching.
Thank you! This is beautiful and you are an amazingly patient teacher. I imagine your fingers want to just fly! The math helped me tremendously thank you for that little helper as well. Special recognition so many videos I have watched I have to turn the sound off because they play music to loud. Or they don't talk at all. It's hard to follow if you have to keep pausing or looking up to read.
Thank you for s uh check clear instructions. I can now make the afghan that my son has wanted for years. Can't wait to get started. Might make me one too.
This is one of the best videos on chevron pattern blanket . Thank you for making sense and explaining it. It’s beautiful . I made one previously but it was a long process because the video I had was confusing and unclear so mistakes were made along the way . I will make this blanket with fall colors . I’m excited. Thank you so much .
Thank you SO much for doing this video so thoroughly and simple. I tried out two written ripple patterns, and they were just over complicated. My numbers just didn't work out either time. I was so discouraged and wasted probably 5 hours trying it out, because of how large I wanted the Afghan. I decided to look on here and I am beyond grateful that I found your video. You explain things so well and you crochet beautifully. You hold your hook the same way my Mommom did, I hold mine differently. Watching you made me miss her so much! She is the one who taught me the lovely crochet world at about 5 years old. Thank you again, so much!
As a Mathematics MA, you can imagine how much I understand and appreciate your video! One of the features of crochet which I like best is playing with stitch multiples and combining different styles of stitches.
I had started this afghan pattern and left it lay for months. I lost my pattern, so Im really glad I found your tutorial. It got me started again on the right stitch.. Thanks so much for being there.
Thanks for this. I started your ripple pattern a while ago but stopped around Christmas to make hats and such. Glad to have a video to help me get back to it.
Thank you, excellent help, u r the first person on a tutorial that I have seen that holds their hook as i do. I donate all the work I do to Hospice Home, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Keep up the good works.
I am so glad I came across your pattern. I made this for my mother 40 plus years ago but lost the pattern. Thanks to you I just completed one for my youngest daughter and about to start one for my eldest daughter. I appreciate you creating this pattern.
Just completed another Afghan for my eldest daughter using your pattern. The first one was pink, gray and black. The second one was green, black and red. Thanks again for your creation.
This is a great, easy to follow pattern! I apologize if it's in the video, but it looks like to come up with the number of chains for the foundation stitches, it's multiples of 21, then subtract one from that. If that's helpful to anyone. But the list of foundation chain numbers in the video was really comprehensive!
I’m struggling. I have done this pattern 3 times. I have unravel the yarn 3 times. I’m doing the pattern just as you say. I come up short at the end. I only have 9 left as you show, you have 10 left. I’m using the 125. The smallest blanket. Could it possibly be 126 instead of the 125. Please help. I really want to make this blanket for my newly born grandchild. Thanks
I made this afghan for my grandson 💙 for Christmas he just loved it and it was just what he wanted thanks I had made one years ago but your was so much easier
Thank you! Very good explanation. I was able to follow this with no issues and made a lovely afghan for my couch. It was only the second one I'd made and it looks like a "pro" did it. :)
Thank you so much for your very clear instructions. I haven’t crocheted since the 70s and decided to try it again. I made 2 afghans with your instructions; one exactly like the one shown and then a single colored one with tassels on each point. I gave them to my adult children who were very happy to have something hand made by their mom!
Im trying to figure out how to crochet it on the blanket im working. I wanted to add the chevron design to the edges of the blanket when im done. But i dont know how big the blanket will be when im done. I have about 160 more rows to go. I started with a cable knit design, about 10 rows of that i think then 5 cable knits, single crochets and end with 5 cable knits. Then when i get to the end of course itll end the same way. I feel like itll look good with the ripple design on the edges
I have been trying to design a pattern to replicate a very cute cropped ripple stitch sweater I saw. The chain numbering explanation at the outset is incredible helpful thanks!
Thanks so much for all the trouble trying to give us the exact amount of chains to make our own afghan and also the diagram, am really excited now, thanks a million
I really love this pattern.. my grandmother made me a multi pink colors and didn't know the name or style came across yours and it's exactly like it just different colors . Love the peaks and valleys on this pattern... thanks for sharing an easier way to do it...
Well I love this pattern.. I'm pretty sure I have the same original you do. But it's soo big made up I have been waiting for 50 years to get AMAZING different sizes . I can't thank you enough .. GREAT JOB !!!!
Thank you so much. I tried doing one as a double stitch and ended up with a line with bumps in it. Watched this one and got it as a single stitch. I'm so excited to do this blanket. I bought the yarn before I knew how to make the wave. Lol thank you for making it easy to learn
I had begun to learn crocheting from my mom, however she passed away before teaching me the art of crocheting afghans (I began with dish cloths and the basic stitches). . Love this pattern, thank you! No problem as long as a person counts the pattern comes out perfectly. I used the colors cream, soft grey and blue. I will def make this patter again. 😊
I have been procrastinating for 3 years on making this blanket. Finally started it a couple days ago. Using Caron one pound coral, sage and cream. Turning out really pretty. Using a size 6mm hook instead of 5 mm
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm a beginner, and have looked at quite a few videos, and spent quite a few hours, failing miserably. I got it right the first try after watching this video! I'm on my way now.
So just so I'm understanding correctly, if you pick any of those chain number's doing the count of 9 will still work out evenly no matter what? So for example if I picked the chain link start of 125 chains I would still do the 9 count plus 1 ect?
i like this lady i am new to the stitch so i will fallow her right to the end ...its a little hard i only have one working eye and she go,s slow i like that and specks clearly thank for sharing your video
Hi. Thanks for the video. My mom used to make this ripple stitch. I do have a question. If you do not stitch the last stitch at the end of each row, how does the afghan stay in shape. I guess I mean, how does it not get narrower with each row? Thanks
One of the best teaching video I’ve seen so far. The other were so complicated , couldn’t understand how to continue, but your video is excellent . Can’t wait to make a scarf to start off. Then going to make a tricolor blanket using your video. Thank you
This is my first Afghan. I looked at many patterns and yours is by far the best. I am still wondering about the dropped last stitch on each row. It looks like the sides will look uneven/unfinished. What would happen if you did not drop the last stitch? Thank you for sharing your great videos with us
My mom taught me how to crochet when i was in the 11th grade. I was a poor crochere. But she showed me this pattern and both of us did a red and black. I want to thank you for giving me back this stich.
I just found your tutorial on the ripple stitch afghan and you made it so easy to follow. I am making my first ripple afghan and I am sure I will be making more. Thank you so very much. I also got the pattern so I can take it with me when I go out and about. I also will follow your rules about the free pattern. But they will not be sold. The afghans I am making will be donated to Hospice. The pattern will remain in my collection of patterns and will not be sold or copied. Thank you again.
If u wanted to make it bigger or smaller it's seem to be to add or subtract 21 from the numbers provide. There three more sizes between 188chains and 251chains just ad or subtract 21 from said numbers
Thank you so much for your help , I am going to doing again since last night didn't work unfortunately, I follow the pattern and doing at the same time with you in the video , but in the second row I finish with 11 chains not 10 . Hopefully I will tell you that I got it . Thank you for your time , you are very patient and nice . Elena.
aw, bummer, not sure why its not working out, all I can say is make sure you count all your stitches and follow the pattern, make sure you have 3 sc in the peak and skip when it says. and skip at the end and turn. ect..
Oh gosh, THANK YOU for this video! You explained it so well, and the numbers made sense. I have started and pulled out my project so many times because I couldn't get the stitch counts to work out right when I got to the ends of the rows. I'm going to give it another try with this pattern. Thanks again!!
Thank you for the tutorial, I am a beginner I learned during lockdown. I would like to ask you; if I want make the chevron like a losange shape kind of square is that rule of skip 2 make my sc for my point let’s says 4 and than 3sc in a chain and than 4 ,Sc and skip 2.?
thanks so much for this pattern i love it im gonna start making one with the 251 chain im gonna make mine from left over yarn this was so much easier to follow than a written pattern ive tried for so long on how to figure the ripple but you made it so much easier
Thank you for this video its very easy to follow, you have a very pleasent voice, I love the pattern I am working on the project now, keep up the good work.
I needed to know how to make a Cassia Ripple Afghan stitch I have a kit for making the blanket but I am having problems making it can't understand how it goes can you make that kind of African blanket thanks
Can you go through both loops, I don't like using only one loop; I made a scrap blanket using this stitch using only scrap yarns tied together and my dad loved it I messed up on the first couple of rows until I noticed the sides coming in then I adjusted and got it to work, not bad considering I only watched my grandmother do one and decided to use a raps to see if I could do one
Yess great video it was super easy to follow and you explained it amazingly!!! Thank you i am now in the process of makimg a chevron blanket because you guided me!!

Thank you for this. Lost my instructions.....but it's been 17 years and I need to finish this.
Thank you for doing all that work for the different sizes.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm a beginner, and have looked at quite a few videos, and spent quite a few hours, failing miserably. I got it right the first try after watching this video! I'm on my way now.
Ginger Girl try Fiber Flux videos. She's wonderful to follow for beginners.

Thank you for your clear instructions. I have one question. Why do you not work the last stitch of the second row?
thats how the pattern was given to me, it does work out.
Oh by the way I’m so glad I found you. this was the exact way my gram taught me to crochet and I actually forgot the numbers. So you’re my grams angel
Hi. Thanks for the video. My mom used to make this ripple stitch. I do have a question. If you do not stitch the last stitch at the end of each row, how does the afghan stay in shape. I guess I mean, how does it not get narrower with each row? Thanks
I was given this pattern by an aunt and that’s how it was written. You could try it your way and see but I didn’t test it
One of the best teaching video I’ve seen so far. The other were so complicated , couldn’t understand how to continue, but your video is excellent . Can’t wait to make a scarf to start off. Then going to make a tricolor blanket using your video. Thank you
Thank you ❤️
The pattern repeat is 21+ 20. Chain in multiples of 21 until you get it almost as long as you want. Then add 20 more.
why do i need to add 20?
Excellent teacher. You make it easy. I will start my project shortly. Thank you.
I am loving this pattern. My edges are curling and not laying flat. Any suggestions? I know I am a tight crocheter!
This is my first Afghan. I looked at many patterns and yours is by far the best. I am still wondering about the dropped last stitch on each row. It looks like the sides will look uneven/unfinished. What would happen if you did not drop the last stitch? Thank you for sharing your great videos with us
+a lot people ask that and it will be straight on the edge Carol Everhart
Can you work the last stitch? I don’t want it to be a dropped stitch. How would I do that?
My mom taught me how to crochet when i was in the 11th grade. I was a poor crochere. But she showed me this pattern and both of us did a red and black. I want to thank you for giving me back this stich.
Do you have this pattern written down.i could not find where to copy it
Thanks,
Darlene
How many balls of yarn do yoy have to buy for this pattern
I'm finishing up my second row, do I continue in the back loop for all remaining rows going forward with the rest of the blanket/pattern?
yes, www.amyscrochetpatterns.com/2016/11/crochet-ripple-afghan-with-video.html
I just found your tutorial on the ripple stitch afghan and you made it so easy to follow. I am making my first ripple afghan and I am sure I will be making more. Thank you so very much. I also got the pattern so I can take it with me when I go out and about. I also will follow your rules about the free pattern. But they will not be sold. The afghans I am making will be donated to Hospice. The pattern will remain in my collection of patterns and will not be sold or copied. Thank you again.
Love your video and thank you for sending me the written instructions as well! Is the 125 chains good for a crib baby blanket?
Thank you for sharing. This pattern is very easy to follow. I'm glad I found you
I love your video! So easy to follow. I can’t seem to find the link for the pattern.
If u wanted to make it bigger or smaller it's seem to be to add or subtract 21 from the numbers provide. There three more sizes between 188chains and 251chains just ad or subtract 21 from said numbers
Thank you so very much! I have been trying to learn this for so long! Your instructions finally made sense to me! Loving it!
Cool thanks I always have problem with edge
Thank you so much so well explain thank you again I am going try this God bless you
Thank you for the tutorial, I am a beginner I learned during lockdown. I would like to ask you; if I want make the chevron like a losange shape kind of square is that rule of skip 2 make my sc for my point let’s says 4 and than 3sc in a chain and than 4 ,Sc and skip 2.?
Thank you ever so much for the pattern. Ive made a few for my grandsons but lost my pattern. Very easy to read and understand.
thanks so much for this pattern i love it im gonna start making one with the 251 chain im gonna make mine from left over yarn this was so much easier to follow than a written pattern ive tried for so long on how to figure the ripple but you made it so much easier
+glad it helped Tabitha Andy
What is the finished size in inches? Thanks. 😊. Trying to determine my starting chain.
Thank you for this video its very easy to follow, you have a very pleasent voice, I love the pattern I am working on the project now, keep up the good work.
+thanks😀Deborah Jackson
I needed to know how to make a Cassia Ripple Afghan stitch I have a kit for making the blanket but I am having problems making it can't understand how it goes can you make that kind of African blanket thanks
Hi! When you change colors, did you cut old color and worked it in new row? Thanks
Your tutorial is really, really helpful, and I love your blanket colours, so gorgeous, thanks so much for the share...
thanks
Wow I am Janice from Malta . I thank you as I tried this blanket once and couldn't do it . You make it seems easy .

@@CrochetJewel thank you.
Yess great video it was super easy to follow and you explained it amazingly!!! Thank you i am now in the process of makimg a chevron blanket because you guided me!!
Has anyone added and made a larger blanket? Looking to make it full/queen sized any help would be great. The 251 isn’t wide enough.
Natasha Dennis Chain a combination of the numbers she provides for the afghan. For example, 251+125= 376 stitches/chain
Trying to work out the sizes and it looks ad though it's multiples if 21 and add 20.
hello I just very kindly wondered how I chain on as iam new to this kind of pattern and I really would like to make a Afghan blanket large sized I have slight learning difficulties so I learn slowly please very kindly confirm
