    This is project lawn Jeannie's house. Her lawn has come a long way and 99% of the results came from her taking keeping the lawn mowed frequently along with good irrigation practices and an early August with good rains. All of this worked in favor along with some fertilization, pre-emergent, spot weed control and topped off with liquid aeration and overseeding.

      I just scoot my Mantis across the ground at a partial throttle. I would get a set of aeration tines but those suckers are pricy. You know the old Marine motto - adapt and overcome.

    Love it, doing my aeration and overseeding this weekend.
    After a year of learning my land I know where I’ll be doing a second app of preemergent next year and where I’ll be doing preemptive fungicide. Amazing what happens when you open your eyes and observe!

    I’ll tell you one thing aeration does - it breaks up the surface tension of the soil and allows good water drainage. Normally, the soil in part of my front yard stands in water during periods of heavy rain. A few days ago I used my Mantis tiller to aerate it. I just let it kind of walk across the area. Today, during the heavy rain from Idalia, we got a lot of rain but no standing water in the area I tilled -dry as a bone. I am going to finish aero rating the front yard as soon as it dries up a bit. I am also going to put a tilled ring around my yard shrubbery and fruit trees. This should help them get any surface moisture to the roots a little easier. I will add in a little fert, lime and bone meal to the ring and till it in, too. Those little tillers can do multiple jobs besides the garden. I like my Mantis and even bought my youngest daughter a new one for her upcoming birthday. It is the easy start 7924 version. It cost a lot more than my $20 one that I fixed and restored but they both do the same thing.

    Hey alan. I love your videos. I have been watching for years. I recently got my soil test back and i am high in iron and manganese but slightly low on nitrogen and low on potassium. I want to buy the 7-0-20 but i am worried about driving up the iron and manganese levels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Labor Day, Labor Day…….what am I putting down on my central Florida, St Augustine grass? I got plenty of crabgrass in there. I never really got it as thick as I would of liked to have it through spring and summer, I was fighting crabgrass all summer long.

    Hey Allyn! I have been following your process this year here in NJ with great success. Bare spots have filled in and lawn is dominating! I had the township tear up the front of my lawn (4ft×60 ft) for new curbs last Nov. I grew new grass in March and reseeded last week for a nice full lawn next year. I also applied tanacity instead of prodimine (due to the seed) to the lawn along with starter fertilizer as per your recommendations from my soil sample. For the first time, half my grass (the shaded half) has turned light green when the rest of the lawn is deep green. Could that fading be from tanacity? Why might it only be in the shaded area? Thanks for the help!

      @Thelawncarenut  10 місяців тому +1

      May be some fine fescue in the shaded areas and tenacity can stunt it. It should come back.

There is also a place inside where you can ask questions and me and my admin answer them. I handle all the Florida questions.

    Pounding my head against the wall. Seeded TTTF two years ago and had decent results. We’re in SE KS and thinking about switching to Bermuda but would cut it at about 2 to 2-1/2 inches. Which way should I go. We have had a drought for three years an 95-103 degree days.

    Is it cost effective to DIY this stuff? I tried doing it when I first moved into our home but found that a bag of fertilizer was as more than one treatment from a local company and the treatment included herbicide. So I just pay them to do it and it cost about $350 -$400 a year. Break down the math for me 😅

      These are the type of questions I answer on my podcast Lawns Across America - happy to give you a breakdown in detail. Let me know (1) how big your lawn is - square foot total and (2) what does each application cost that you are getting from the local company? (3) How many applications are you getting per season from them? (4) What state do you live in?
