The Kadett GSi was a very popular car in Germany, so surely we can await a Astra GSi. The color of this car... not the best, but I really like the design. Thanks for showing it with all the details and informations.
Cool review, I enjoyed the description of the different 4 wheel drive systems. Nice to hear GKN coming up really well, as they're a local firm here. Formally known as Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds, they can trace their origins back to 1759, the very start of the industrial revolution!!! A bit older than Tesla!!
Yes! Been waiting the review for this car for a while. Such a beauty! And the quality for the video is superb! Really, really professional and artistic. Keep up the great work!
It seems like in some markets you can get the Non-Performance seats (with separated head restraints) in a fabric/leatherette combination. Best is to ask your dealer. /Thomas
Great review, Thomas is a hard act to follow :) I think you were a little unkind about the car saying it was basically a normal insignia with all the options ticked as there are significant enhancements. Also the GSI badge was huge for Vauxhall in the UK being used on the Nova, Astra, Cavalier, Vectra and Carlton so I’m really happy to see it back. Shame they didn’t offer a manual gearbox and autos always sap the power. Love the deleted rear wiper as I absolutely hate ugly rear wipes on a car. Car looks amazing in red, not a fan of this primer colour.
Another great review, keep up the good work guys. Can we hope for a review of the competitor to this car as far as engine, drivetrain and price goes, the Alfa Giulia Veloce, preferably the petrol version. Best regards.
Great review. I Love Thomas but I think you did an even better job for the technical and driving part. Well done and keep doing the great job. Which one do you think is better in term of handling? The Insignia GSI or an Audi A5 SB Quattro (with a similar engine)? Tx.
Great beginning. Is every AJ and Jonas review going to have the special artistic segments now? The actual car is ok but the Golf R seems a lot more appealing to me. And the end might be a revelation to those EV haters who compare them to golf carts. They need to hit the links!
Nice one Aditya & Jonas - very entertaining. Liked the Commodore sequence. E.Z. Go? Have you also tried the Polaris EV: fun, expensive, but it can go off-road a bit (and on-road)...
First I was thinking "what ... Commodore GS/E ... Insignia GSI ... it's like to forget that the Insignia is the successor of the Vectra that is the successor of the Ascona ... But then I noticed that in Australia they're really going to sell the new Insignia as a Commodore, now ... the previous version was still an Insignia there, too. Guess after GM sold Opel/Vauxhall to PSA so Holden will be just the next victim. Not saying that this car is bad - I like the design and it looks good. And probably I'd replace the Opel Blitz with a Holden Lion emblem. IMO the chrome finish looks better with the GSI. The Black line looks more like standard plastic of cheap cars ... it's like when people are buying black painted alloy wheels that are looking like the black steel wheels under a wheelcap.
The question now is, will Opel/Vauxhall produce the range topping OPC/VXR for this Insignia model? Since the current Insignia OPC/VXR has sold very few numbers, there may not be a case for another VXR in these days of budgets cuts and engine downsizing. Although there hasn't been any talk as to whether the Insignia GSi is the OPC/VXR replacement here in Europe, the 250bhp 2.0L 4 cylinder GSi might be the most powerful engine that we will ever get as the range-topper. This suspicion is based on the fact that Opel/Vauxhall tout the GSi as a car with better performance than the current OPC/VXR! That leads me to suspect that they may actually not be planning to produce an OPC/VXR version if they have already made a car that is better than the current OPC/VXR. I have owned both Vauxhall VXR versions, a 2008 Vectra VXR and my current 2016 Insignia VXR SuperSport. It's an awesome car with a sweet sounding engine. I would buy another VXR without question if they produced it.
Hi AJ, congrats again for your passion and tech knowledge. What are those wired creaking noise that I heard wile you were changing direction in the track session? Some objects not fixed in the cabin or something coming from the car? Thanks. Vitto
i work as a salesman in opel and some other brands. i'm 1.93 m and i have about 10-15 cm from my knees to the front seat when its in my seating position. so yeah it's a very big and nice car. :)
Nice and thorough review overall. I liked it. One little thing at the end, you compare this car to a golf R and they are not really in the same class at all. The golf obviously competes directly with the astra. Even then if you are to compare say a GSI astra(if there was one) to something from vw it would be the golf GTI. The R is a direct rival with opel's OPC. The insignia is to be compared to a passat with similar trim level and engine. EDIT: Also i wanted to point out that the Insignia GSI is by no means a performance version, no matter how much it is advertised as such. Waiting for the OPC. Hope they still plan to make one although it is unclear after the PSA deal.
This will apparently only be available with the diesel in Sweden. So if you go for the regular Insignia you can opt for a more powerful petrol engine :/
Nice Review. Here in Slovenia we can get the Insignia GSI with Cloth Seats - Trim Cloth/Morrocana, but sadly if you want the Performance seats its like you said only Leather. It is a good Car the Insignia, but i absolutely don't like the Infotainment and Instruments - they only show a tiny Map, where even the VW Polo can have it bigger
Hladno/Vroče, bolj trdo kot blago, potrebuje redno negovanje in sediš na mrtvi kravi :) Definitivno stvar okusa, meni je blago ljubše (imel več let na večih vozilih usnje, sedaj že nekaj časa samo še blago)
Sean Dominko Lol, we have a VW purist here! VW cars are garbage plus extremely boring when it comes to design! Not to mention they are by far the worst when it comes to emissions! Insignia > Passat all the way!
What I really hate is all the cheap hard plastic interior parts in high priced Opel models. I don't feel comfortable enough, as the hard plastic parts have also a bad sound reflection. The petrol engines are also bad, as this one sucks about 12L/100kmh (spritmonitor) and doesn't have enough punch (0-100Km/h in more than 7 seconds.) Those are the main reasons why I wouldn't buy one. Though I hope Opel continues and improves, as it would be missed on the streets.
Well, aside this special version, normal GSi's have a vinyl + cloth interior and better looking in my view (non-fake directional) 18" wheels as standard.
Car looks great! Seems very premium - however, I hate the seats. What's the deal with making seats look "cool"? It looks immature, more than it looks cool.
Maybe a non issue with paddles - but are Mazda and BMW the only ones that put the plus and minus on the gear lever in the right orientation? Shift up forward and shift down backwards is totaly akward.
"other competitors like the Golf R" ??? really ? a 70 cm shorter car ? such a detailed (and long) review, should actually compare the GSi to some of it's (real) competitors
After astra opc j with this 2.0 l gasoline engine,I can say engine is very old, very high consuption, average 14l,and worst performance wise engine is lagging much behind vw 2.0 ea888 which is in golf gti and r,and opel technology is far behind

These Germans (although technically it's Americans and French now) are so efficient, they'll even sell you a car painted in primer grey like the example tested here.
Really need to keep your hand from in front of the screen :-( its progressively more annoying that the presenter just waved his hand in the camera shot attempting to show things, but in reality just blocking our view.
why not say enough is enough, and maybe just do a walk around review and no test drive if it only comes with dead animal seats? People find it socially unacceptable to wear leather coat but hypocritically will have 10 times the material in their cars.
Usually test press vehicles have full spec but u can get lower spec for buying with fabric leatherette or alcantara. We also always ask for non leather cars if possible. The GSi can be bought with non performance seats with fabric according to price list
Will this channel cut the crap about leather seats😤. We don’t want fabrics because the get dirty, smelly, sweaty and alcantara gets worn and ugly. Leather can be easily wiped and it’s good to go. If not animal then synthetic leather but cut the crap about fabric. People aren’t spending loads of money for crappy fabric.
Thank you for taking interest in this very important topic! We have researched this issue for many years now so please take your time to go through our extensive resources stated below as they answer on every question we have yet received concerning this matter. At Autogefühl, we have already received several thousands (!) comments, messages and mails that more and more people want to combine enjoying their car with reducing the environmental impact at the same time. We believe that sustainable luxury is possible or at least we should do everything to support that. Those many thousand people confirming this trend, motivate us to give you the most authentic information and background on the product parts. It is not about what you bought in the past, and it is not about blaming anyone, it is about what you decide in the future and what you can decide and influence as a customer. So we want you to have all information that you need for a decision you later enjoy and like best yourself. In Summer 2017, Tesla motors has decided to be the first manufacturer to go all the way with sustainable seat materials, only offering fabric/cloth seats or leatherette seats in different colours. They have banned all real leather from the seating surface and at the steering wheel in the white trim or on demand. So Tesla shows where the industry will and must be heading, just like they went forward with electrification first. Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production: ua-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/v-deo.html List of practical reasons against animal skin seats: 1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it) 2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling 3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating 4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling 5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa 6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ua-cam.com/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/v-deo.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla 7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather) To the environmental reasons: 1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below) 2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for at least 40 % of climate emissions and thus is (according to numerous sources you can look up) the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for growing animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the agricultural land, you could produce much more food for everyone. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf 3. It is not only cows who are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage. 4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed in first place: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body. 5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, in every case you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". A the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover up that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy. 6. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/ To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production” 1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small. 2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce. 3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future. More special video episodes: 1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html 2. And another one right here: ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html 3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ua-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/v-deo.html timecode starting 27:46 4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ua-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/v-deo.html 5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway. Manufacturers reactions: We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL. If it all would be clean and happening without harm, why don’t they show it to us whereas they are showing us every other detail of their products? They have good reason not to, because there is no such thing as a clean animal skin production without harming cows, humans and the environment. The only thing a manufacturer can do is increase their effort for a better future, and we are helping with in-depth talks and interviews by presenting the increasing customer demand for sustainable luxury. Tesla was the first one to react in a major way now. So meanwhile, we more often also get feedback that a lot of manufacturers are working on leather-free interiors and are aware of the situation. E.g. Bentley, Mini and Kia have started vegan car interior programmes. Besides Tesla, Mercedes already shows major choices for sustainable interiors, you always have to pay attention to the details when ordering, of course - and we are happy to give advice. However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change! Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
My car is currently 10 years old, and the "dirty fabric" seats are perfectly fine. They aren't miscolored or smelly, or dirty for that sake. Maybe stop smearing sweat and shit all over your seats?
You realize it's saying it's consuming 19,2 liters per 100 km driven? That's actually EXTREMELY bad haha. Has to be an error from weird review driving.
When you start up a car and reset the trip meter and leave the car on in Idle, the consumption goes up. But once you drive it for a couple hours, then the number settles
AJ you have an excellent way of explaining the differential. I understood all the terms and how it worked anyway but I could visualise it working through your explanation so good job! Great review with lots of facts and good positive, criticisms with the excellent addition of the intro in the old commedore. Autogefuhl reviews are the best in the business imo.
Thx m8!
In Australia this is our new Holden Commodore, replacing the Australian-designed and made VF Commodore.
Our new Commodore comes from the Opel factory in Germany, but has many changes compared to the European version thanks to Holden’s local engineering team.
Our cars have a unique suspension, steering and transmission tune for Australian tastes.
We also get a 3.6L V6 for the high-end AWD models and VXR - the 2.0T from Europe’s VXR is our base model engine. Curiously, we have a nine-speed auto for both 2.0L T and 3.6L V6 and an eight-speed auto for the 2.0L diesel. We can only get AWD with the V6
Thx 4 the contribution!
The Kadett GSi was a very popular car in Germany, so surely we can await a Astra GSi.
The color of this car... not the best, but I really like the design.
Thanks for showing it with all the details and informations.
Opel Insignia has a great design! Hope they make a hybrid or even electric version in years to come!
Stateside I’ve been interested in the Buick Regal, and it’s awesome seeing the Opel and Holden equivalents. Thank you for the awesome video
Very nice Video, was a pleasure to meet you, AJ and Jonas! 👍
83metoo thanks man! It was great to meet you too! :)
Great shots & visuals, especially in the beginning 👍🏼
I am well surprised from AJ, great review! A lot of technical information and well explained! Keep the good work!

Such an awesome intro! While growing up in Fiji, I knew Holden but had no idea it was connected to Vauxhall and Buick.
Cheers pal!

appreciated !

thanks for using our music - we are fans of vintage cars!
Great review. I Love Thomas but I think you did an even better job for the technical and driving part. Well done and keep doing the great job.
Which one do you think is better in term of handling? The Insignia GSI or an Audi A5 SB Quattro (with a similar engine)?

Nice looking car, great improvement on the previous model. And as usual great review.

Really nice video! Totally fair Rating/review of the vehicle :)
Always like to get some technical information, which you offer - well done!

best review on insignia gsi ive seen. good job
Really enjoyed the thorough interview!👍 shame you didnt got the 2.0 turbo petrol engine on test though.
cheers !
Damn, they forgot to paint it. Still in primer.
I saw it on an auto salon and it doesn't look half bad in the metal. That said, while it looks good, it's still very impractical.
It’s so funny when looking at old cars and seeing how large the steering wheels were 😆
great review! a little bit disappointing that the reviewer didn't make ANY oversteer even on a wet test track.
E.Z.Go worth taking up golf for. Naturally, drive wearing a Pringle sweater for full effect. Nice one, Guys!
Nice one Aditya & Jonas - very entertaining. Liked the Commodore sequence. E.Z. Go? Have you also tried the Polaris EV: fun, expensive, but it can go off-road a bit (and on-road)...

I just love how almost all Opel/Vauxhalls can park themselves 😊
This color goes really well with the weather you had, very sad and dull.
Cool review, great car especially in GSI spec. That paintjob is sick! :) You guys know how's it called?

Is there a tuned version of the golf cart (Golf Cart GTI), which could reach 10 km/h? :)
Wow was he going through those corners at 40 KLM! Steady!

This will apparently only be available with the diesel in Sweden. So if you go for the regular Insignia you can opt for a more powerful petrol engine :/
The US model gets the 310 hp 3.6 V6
Are those 4 the same car under different branding?
at least it doesn't have fake exhaust tips, that's a plus these days. besides, quite a nice car
The HUD reflection on the windshield looks very distracting.

Will this car be available in the US
Yes, Buick will put their badge on it and call it their own, even though they didn't have anything to do with development.
GS has 310hp 3.6V6, but no paddleshifters or manual
The platform engines and transmissions are all US developed.
Very sharp looking in that color with the black details
has this been confirmed to be coming to the UK?
Yes. www.vauxhall.co.uk/vehicles/future-models-and-concepts/insignia-gsi/overview.html
Marseille is the best city in France.
Is that a Holden?
Am I the only one who likes that color? :D
I love this car

That's the grayest car of all time.
"other competitors like the Golf R" ???
really ? a 70 cm shorter car ?
such a detailed (and long) review, should actually compare the GSi to some of it's (real) competitors
you can compare price wise and you can compare length wise
Of course you can. You can even compare color wise.
But imagine how much more appropriate would be "segment" or "category" wise ...
After astra opc j with this 2.0 l gasoline engine,I can say engine is very old, very high consuption, average 14l,and worst performance wise engine is lagging much behind vw 2.0 ea888 which is in golf gti and r,and opel technology is far behind

What country village were you in?
region around marseille
the number plate has the gsi in it
Because Opel is part of PSA now, will the infotainment systems in existing Opel cars be changed to the PSA infotainment systems in the coming years?
Good question

Unimpressed with the diesel engine. Would've thought it would be more economical. I get better L/Km in my Golf R. The search continues...
VXR in Australia gets a V6 motor
Angry Sid the sloth:)
So pathetic having such hard suspension. It’s hardly a mega fast car and who drives on a racetrack. Stupid.
Reminds me of Mazda
why not say enough is enough, and maybe just do a walk around review and no test drive if it only comes with dead animal seats? People find it socially unacceptable to wear leather coat but hypocritically will have 10 times the material in their cars.
Usually test press vehicles have full spec but u can get lower spec for buying with fabric leatherette or alcantara. We also always ask for non leather cars if possible. The GSi can be bought with non performance seats with fabric according to price list
Dat color O.o
olli tuovinen some people apparently like it. Always gray...
looks like a 2014 Hyundai! whats wrong with manufacturers these days generic designs and a multitude of bits from other makers.
Not a very impressive 0-100 time... Even the 260HP petrol engine is more than a second slower than a 240HP Diesel Passat.
still no OPC. PSA killed Opel.
But it looks like a Mazda 6
So much ads 😤
Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production:
ua-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/v-deo.html
List of practical reasons against animal skin seats:
1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it)
2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling
3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating
4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa
6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ua-cam.com/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/v-deo.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla
7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
To the environmental reasons:
1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below)
2. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production”
More special video episodes:
1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html
2. And another one right here: ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html
3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ua-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/v-deo.html
timecode starting 27:46
4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ua-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/v-deo.html
5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway.
Manufacturers reactions:
We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL.
Who on earth is going to buy a diesel that is that inefficient?
Nice car but not on this color . Look ugly like Army car ;/ ..So It’s diesel 13:27 nice avg fuel consumption ... :)
You realize it's saying it's consuming 19,2 liters per 100 km driven? That's actually EXTREMELY bad haha. Has to be an error from weird review driving.
rolande59 error 404 ;)
When you start up a car and reset the trip meter and leave the car on in Idle, the consumption goes up. But once you drive it for a couple hours, then the number settles
Aditya Jayaram I know , it was joke :)
Nice Audi...😁
thats a nice kia stinger/audi a7/tesla model s... oh wait.. Opel ? :p
codex83 You've got no eyes if you really think it looks like any of these
Damn that's one disgusting color
The Opel unlike the Holden and Buick has no V6. Europe sucks!
i see so many cars in that color and it is so ugly
