Why China Loves KFC
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 вер 2024
- KFC is extremely popular in China - it made almost 5 billion dollars in 2017. One of the first American fast-food chains to open in China, KFC quickly established dominance over China's emerging fast food market. KFC's Chinese menu does an excellent job of adapting to local tastes, offering everything from congee (rice porridge) to egg tarts. While Americans may associate KFC with being cheap fast-food, in China the brand is perceived as high quality.

Why China Loves KFC
many China KFC 24 hours let homeless people in during the night
KFC has been a heartwarming brand in China. Not just the food
wow china is destined to be A great DRAGON SOMEDAY
That is very kind.I hope they keep on doing it.
Do they let the homeless eat the chicken leftover from the day too?
715490 926 no they don’t, but it is still heartwarming they let homeless guys stay there at night. It can be pretty damn cold during the night at some place
Like the kfc store under my apartment, but I think it’s not precise to call the people homeless. They just need a place to pass the night and will leave for work in the early morning
The spicy chicken wings in China’s KFC... OMG, never, never, tasted better ones anywhere in the US. Has been seeking for 10 years.
Exactly! I was so disappointed when I came to US and found out there is no spicy chicken wings on the menu!

Western KFC are just too lazy to improve.

what more do you want
@@jujharbling265 I was wondering why KFC removed most of the delicious foods from its menu when the first time I am in the western KFC... Until I knew that those foods are provided in China only. Egg tarts they mentioned was a good example.
Exactly. It used to be so good but now all they do is try to save money by serving old dry chicken with not as much seasonings.

@@billsmith9234 fake name Bill Smith. Broken English, fake info= wumao
Pretty sure the Westerners also see fast food chains as occasional treats. The fact is that what we consider as a normal meal (like a homemade burger) the Chinese see them as fast food because Mcdonalds and KFCs have engraved them with Burgers and Fries = Unhealthy fast food
@@billsmith9234 I'd say on average the living standard of U.S is once or twice better than that of China, with PPP taken into consideration. Suppose an American dude makes half or a third as h he does now. A KFC meal would be definitely a treat in that case. But still far from being a luxury.
Chinese people don't see KFC as something luxurious, it's just they do a pretty good localization job!
I'm not saying your right or wrong... but several of these chinese commenters said it was a luxury.
Jessica Rae it was when it enters, I remember when I was a kid I usually get to go KFC as a treat. Right now it is more like a “casual food”. The western fast food usually label itself as “leisure food”, and they appear to be much more middle class favored with bright colors, open environments, clean and tidy fashioned and just generally modern look, that aside their food actually taste freshly cooked and has good flavor.
The KFC ppl got in North America or at least in Canada to my knowledge, almost appear as a low class food chain, just how grim and messy everything looks like. At the same time things taste like they got microwaved, and they got a tiny menu.

I haven't been to China, but i'm a Vietnamese and i can tell you KFC in Vietnam is really a treat to most of us (not really a luxury but also not some everyday, eat-on-the-go food) because you can have a really decent meal for 25 - 30k VND (1.3$ USD) and a KFC set is usually around 80k VND (3.5$).

KFC is no where near a “Luxury” status in China now. It is very mid level. They do have very good localized menu. They have solid food for nice price, which makes good business. Their stores are usually 24/7, which attracts lots of homeless people, and we praise them for this social service. Actually Pizza Hut is a much more extreme example. While Pizza Hut is pretty much the same level in US, it is market as a much more upscale restaurant in China. Yes, Pizza Hut can kind of be called Luxury in China. But remember now in China a Luxury restaurant has a very high bar, something like at least 50 US dollar per meal per person, so they would never be at that level.

Louis V. X
There’s two KFCs in 100 metres of each other.
Do you agree with me that McDonald’s actually does better chicken then kfc in China?
American Students's reaction when they first tried KFC China: ua-cam.com/video/uMnEwoMZUt8/v-deo.html
That video didn't feature the duck, pork, beef, fish, shrimp, croissants, tofu, frybreads (like the Native American ones that you tried in a powwow), and century eggs in KFC. KFC China has basically everything except for lamb and goat meat.
I always find crowded McDonald's in New York
China's KFC'S are so much different & better (at least the ones in which I ate), they were proper restaurants, loads of variety in the menu, everyone seemed dressed and the food was actually delicious!
Yes, I agree.
@Alan Mentary hahahaha good one
I lived in China for 1 year and a half and I can confirm that everything said in this video is true. One thing that they didn't mention in this video is that KFC in China Also has its own breakfast menu, my favourite was a savoury rice pudding with a dipping bread that dissolved in your mouth when you eat it.
P.S. I live in area called Jiangsu province and in that area alone there were about 8 KFC's within a 10 to 30 minute radius, most of them within walking distance to each other. As for McDonald's there were about 5 in Jiangsu and only 2 Burger King.
Fun fact : when KFC first introduce drive thru in China, most Chinese doesn't understand what is "Drive thru" so they order their meal on drive thru window, park their cars, go into restaurant to eat.

This is pretty interesting to watch for a Chinese Chinese like me. Indeed, KFC is not quite like KFCs from the west. It's usually clean, modern and the food is usually better than it in the US. Around 2000, KFC was considered to be a treat for kids at that time. Like if you were a kid and had a birthday party in the KFC, your friends would think you are either rich or popular (or both). Nowadays, KFC is more like a meh food for young people, like if you can't really decide what to eat, or even going to watch a football game at night, you would go to KFC.
As far as I know, KFC is far more localized than any other US companies. Many people may hate the US at this point, but they would never turn down a meal in KFC lol.
I love KFC, but last time I went to one is like half years ago. Because there's just sooooo many other selections that taste better and cheaper. :) Hope you would find this comment interesting. Let me know if you have some questions regarding this topic XD

I heard they cook bigger chickens there called cockatrices, is that true?

Why do you guys hate the US rn?
Part of the reason is political propaganda. Most people who don't like America are old people. Young people are more fond of foreign cultures. So now the Chinese government has set up a firewall to prevent young Chinese from getting too exposed to foreign ideas
Oddly enough, KFC in China actually taste more like Popeyes in the U.S.
David Ran hmmmmmm
Does Popeyes have rice dishes, Chinese breakfast, monthly special items? No, KFC China is so much mode than Popeyes in USA

MsMrapplepie ah yes love spotting racists in the comments :))
Why kfc failed in US because of frozen meat and just chicken.
It succeeded in india because of fresh chicken and they started making rice items in kfc
How did it fail in the US it came from it
Zakary Loreto at first its a hit but later lot of chicken making fast food options rise and they make some fresh chicken, and the fall begun
Fun fact. KFC had tried India more than two decades before as well. The one blunder they made was selling beef patty burgers. Things got ugly very quickly.
I mean unless you live in the US you should know kfc isn’t failing
@@TastyMangos it isn't failing but McDonalds, Chick-fil-a, Popeyes, etc. is beating its ass even though KFC is the same age as McDonalds and was once the biggest fast food restaurant in US in 1963. I've both lived in Aus and China for over 20 more yrs, also visited States for months is past years along, gonna tell KFC is a completely different thing in China and all the other countries I've been to, not only about the recipes. I remembered every KFC spot in China in early yrs and to mid-2010s are all equipped with kid playing facilities, it's the most iconic western fast food brand that opened in China since 1990s, and since the day KFC spread in China itself is kidda evolving it's own way, going real far on it's creation and adoption of local cuisine into burger. I'am still missing that Sichuan Beef pentagon roll released decade ago, that experience in China's KFC really feels different to my traditional sense's "Fast Food", it more sort of feels like something like those Japanese chain western canteen brands like Saizeriya.
It's a really interesting business case and definitely worth for some more deep in analysis.

Asia really love their Fried Chicken. I tried once in China in 2010 and it has a unique taste.
In Japan, KFC is so popular that days before Christmas, people are already forming a long queue in every KFC restaurant I went to (Tokyo Area, not just the capital).
What this video overlooks is the symbolism of chicken in Chinese cuisine. A chicken served whole at the dinner table symbolizes prosperity, togetherness of the family, joy. A chicken with its head, tail and feet symbolizes completeness. The chicken forms part of the symbolism of the dragon and phoenix representing auspicious male-female pairing in Chinese culture. Lobster represents the dragon and chicken represents the phoenix. Also, eggs mean 'fertility'. After a baby is born, parents may give hard-boiled eggs (with the outer shell dipped in red dye) to their relatives and friends to announce the birth of their baby.
For some reason, my grandmother (originally from China) never ate beef.
Why China loves KFC: because it tastes good, duh

As a native Chinese, we do not see any fast food chains as “high-end” or “luxurious”. But I gotta say their spicy chicken sandwich, their wings and drums, and their fries are out of this world. I can guarantee you that their chicken sandwich is 10x tastier than the Popeyes chicken sandwich.
Clearly never tried a real popeyes sandwhich
Most Asian KFC just tastes so good. Like bruh this reactivated my daily cravings for the classic chicken.
china kfc are different, more variable meals, you can order up soup, vegetarian food, Chinese food, chinese tea, Mexican tacos etc, many more and they are 24 hours.
I would say if they have Chinese version KFC in The US, it could be one of the best Chinese restaurants.
Seeing this food makes me more hungry 😕😶
It's the same in Indonesia. People also think fast-food meals are more as luxuries. Cz, fast-food chain meals are pricier than local foods.
it was considered luxury because a meal would cost $7 dollars where people make cents as salary, that is the main reason
The KFC in Asia is just better, I live here and everytime I see reviews of Americans about the food of KFC it feels like it doesn't match to the KFC that I'm eating here. I'm assuming the KFC in the West is just terrible but KFCs here are great. Even McDonalds here is great.
I grew up in China at a time of expansion but with established western brands (mid-late 2000's). It was popular because the food and atmosphere was consistently excellent, and it had a welcoming brand image. Every other "pro" was already industry standard (sponsorships, adapting menu). I never experienced the same golden vibe in North American fast food restaurants, and that's the difference.
I scrolled through hundreds of comments, look for comments about bats
I only managed to find two, both from Indians
The whole "the Chinese eat bats" thing might have started in the West, but it looks like Indians are the ones who are very eager to propagate it now
Lol
Did u get in a fight with an Indian
Oh wait
Ur Chinese
I see
Good on you :)
Universal restaurant logic.
Competing with burgers and pizza is easier than competing with a hundred different "go to" comfort foods.
Gotta step it up to stay open.
KFC in China is really localised, I was surprised the ones in Taiwan weren’t that localised. It was exactly like what it was in the US but much nicer in quality.
When it first opened, eating at kfc was dead expensive, and was considered a luxury and sign of status
Because the Chinese aren't lazy ppl like ours are
China loves KFC because they aren't lazy like Americans?Elaborate please
@@SARYM911 no because the Chinese kfc workers do a better job than our American kfc workers
@@grassytiger hmmm are you saying since most of black people love kfc they deserve shittier quality??!! Fu then.
@@meinpizza8144 no that's not what I'm saying, it's the employees not caring about the quality of work they put out. China's employees work hard and have pride in their work
FeedTheSupport how in the world did your tiny ass brain infer that
2:40 you know she’s a fan of KFC 😂😂🍗
Shirley got really excited when you talk about KFC lmao !!! And she probably ate more then 4 egg Tarts .. she had 24
The restaurants are much cleaner than in the US. The menu almost makes you forget it’s a fast food chain. New mean items almost every season. Most importantly, the taste is simply awesome. Not just KFC, all fast food chains are much better in Asia.
OFC
Obama Fried Chicken XD
There seems to be one in the US also, search 'Obama Fried Chicken Brooklyn'

Same case here in Vietnam. I remember growing up thinking KFC is the best treat I can get for my good grades. However I've seen a decline in quality and service in recent years: the chickens are too fatty, the stores are not as clean and the menus rarely change. I see myself and other adults are shifting to the new and trendy K-BBQ chains and Hot pot chains instead of fast food.
Thats why you eat Lotteria
