@timrodierides I had a 675 too,it was a 2012 so the last under seat exhaust model in black and gold. Absolutely gorgeous bike but I agree it was uncomfortable, which was why I moved it on after 18 months. I can see the appeal of this bike, being more road focused I'd like to try it. As for the name, remember the Daytona 900? Hardly sporty, they were a bit of a barge. 😊
Great overview and good to see an affordable, reasonably well specified middle-weight bike, and as you said not a parallel twin! Can definitely see the direction of travel in this market and I think it will sell well.
Beautiful looking thing. Great input and commentary on it. The footage of it on the mountain road was filmed in my area! That's California Highway 74 in Palm Desert.
looks fancy, me likey... And the red one is tasty. But tbh I'd rather have the Trident with that stronger engine :). For those sending me to the Street triple, yes, I love those alien eyes too, but something less sporty will fit my sore back.
I already own a Tiger Sport 660 and a Speed Triple 1200 RR so I don’t really have need for this bike, but it is beautiful and a good thing to know it is out there

Triumph has at least five Triumph motorcycles with the Daytona name since 1972. The 675 (the 4th with the Daytona name) doesn't hold squatters rights on the name.
I have the trident 660, which is a great little bike. I wonder if there might be a power hike in the future, now that this model has arrived. The trident chassis is more than capable.
It's interesting that Triumph don't want to talk about who makes the front calipers but the Nissin calipers on the Tiger Sport 660 put me off buying the bike, purely because of aesthetics.
Everyone annoyed at this bike being called the Daytona are the same people that were annoyed when Yamaha called it the R7 and it wasn't a 750 4-cyl homologation special... Also 95% of those people have not ridden the bike (R7) and have no fugging clue what they are talking about xD
Exactly, not to mention, they are also the same guys complaining why the GSX-8R has upright position instead of R7 likeness, well, Triumph answered it for Suzuki.
@@timrodierides Yup. I want to see how many people who were excited for the comeback of the cbr600rr actually go out and buy one new. My guess...maybe 5 or 6 of them.
@@MattNeighbour that’s interesting, the trident 660 has similar torque to the 675r and is geared lower. In theory it should have quicker acceleration. My trident feels every bit as quick as my Daytona 675r at the bottom end
To be clear, Triumph will sell many more of these than they ever would a race bred bike. They know that and since they are in the business of selling bikes for a profit, that is their first, second, and third priorities.
No it doesn't make me angry, but do they think we're stupid? This isn't a Daytona, the new Honda isn't a Hornet and the new Yamaha isn't an R7. Daytona name on this bike is fine. It’s a great addition to have a sporty looking mid range triple in the mix…pick your poison.
Its a sports bike for the road, not the track. A Triumph version of the Ducati SuperSport
I had the original Daytona 900 and I'm sure this'll be far more sporty. I want to know when they'll finally launch the Tiger 660 Adventure.
Was getting the new cbr650r, but will have to ride this first as think it will be better... Great review Tim.
