    Great explanatory video about this flagpole! I have viewed a few videos about this particular HF one. One person had mentioned an issue with the rings but no remedy for it. Thanks for showing a step by step. Also good to know that HF has good customer service for the issue. I don't own a travel trailer , but kudos for your bracket mount engineering on the trailer.

      Thank you for the comment. And congratulations on your flagpole. Your gonna love it. To be honest we don't generally fly the American flag unless it's a holiday such as independence day. We generally fly some type of fun hippie party flags. We have a few different flags. Which one we fly depends on which one I find in my junk box first. Lol. We've also been known to keep extras and give them away to people who compliment our fun flags.

    Purchased one of those from Harbor Freight a few months ago and will have an opportunity to fly the flags end of this month on a camping trip. That was exactly the explanation I needed to understand the best way to prolong the life. Your detail is spot on. I will be looking to your channel for explanations of other topics in the near future and have subscribed and hit notification. Happy trails...

    I have one of these at my house. It's about 3 years old now. The chrome rings are glued on. If you grab them, they will come unglued. You can just use a little 5 min epoxy and glue it back in place. What the chrome ring does is act as a stop for when you are extending it up. If the rings come loose, the pole will still work, but the section comes out of the tube. You will see the locking mechanism. All you have to do is twist the lock by hand to the smallest setting, and the pole slides right back in. I bought a rechargeable light for the top of it, and replaced the cheap ball. I had to gently use a tap to recut the threads for the bolt that came with the light, but it's plastic and cleaned up fine. Great poles. My only issue right now is after 4 years of being outside, is the plastic rings that hold he flags seem to have swelled up, cause they do not spin freely anymore. So I'll prob have to buy a new pole. The nice thing is I won't have to put the PVC in the ground again. just pull the old pole out and slide the new one in.

      Hey, great tips and info. Thank you!! I still have my flagpole. But I don't use it much. I've moved into a fiberglass model similar to this.

    • @csjmoore
      @csjmoore 7 місяців тому

      I did grab the chrome rings and, indeed, the chrome ring came loose. An easy fix is to use super glue. Clean the pole with Isopropyl alcohol first,let it dry and then apply super glue and quickly assemble the ring to the pole. They were a little stingy on the amount of glue they applied at the factory. Remember to keep each section expanded 4"± to grab on to. Also, I used a piece of nylon parachute cord to tie the two flags together such that it keeps the flag headers tight to each other so it flys correctly. Great video - thanks.

    I just poured the cement today and will be putting up my flag as soon as it's ready. Thanks for the tip about the chrome rings. I plan on leaving my flag up day and night unless it rains, etc.. I bought the solar light to light up the flag. It actually attaches at the bottom and shines upward on the flag. There are different types but Harbor Freight had the flag pole solar light for under $20 and of course they always have coupons and sales so the entire thing wasn't expensive. Thanks for the tip. Safe travels.

      I just put the flag pole up and it looks great.
      One problem though. The solar light works great BUT for some reason the hose clamps that come with it are way too big. Even at their smallest adjustment they are too big for the Harbor Freight flag pole. Hey, smaller ones cost about $1 so it's not a big deal but at least now you know ahead of time. Thanks again, best wishes.

      I have used this light for a couple of days now and it is terrible. Do NOT buy it!!!! It does not give off enough light for much of anything. I live in an extremely sunny place and the light has had plenty of sunlight. It just isn't bright and it doesn't really give enough light for a proper display of our flag at night. There is some light but it is not at all what I expected. I just ordered a different light that has a bunch of great reviews on Amazon. I hope I informed you before you bought the Harbor Freight light. Harbor Freight is great for many things but this isn't one of them. I'll let you know how the Amazon light works out.

    Thank you. I am heading out to get one now. I am so grateful you talked about the chrome rings. These remind me of the telescoping poles used for pools. They also have issues if you hold the plastic rings instead of the pole, and of course mine is also having issues with one of the sections. I am using it first for xmas to make a tree by stringing multiple strands of lights from the top of the flag pole. I am hoping to do something different instead of the ball on top. How does it do in the wind? I also like you showing how you strapped the pvc to a support structure. I have an existing hole for a pole, but much smaller. I am thinking of putting a cut off pole in it and strapping the pvc to it.

    • @vdubing01
      @vdubing01  Рік тому +3

      Oh cool idea to use it for a tree. I like that! Mine have done pretty good in the wind and long as I've tightened each section. I've had a section or two slide down before. But that's only happened when we've camped through some Oklahoma thunderstorms.

Tighten it when you put it away leaving space between the chrome rings for your hands to grip. And NEVER EVER use the chrome rings for gripping the pole. Just don't even touch the chrome rings. That's my rule for our 2nd pole and I haven't had a single problem. Let me know it goes for you. 👍👍👍

      @@vdubing01 one thing I've learned is not to take each section to where it is just barely still in the pipe and tighten it. I bring each section up very slowly and, when I feel resistance, I drop it down about an inch and tighten it up. Sure, it's a few inches shorter, but it does give the pole more strength when the wind is blowing hard.

    I bought one of these but didn't last very long. It was for my home. I mostly put it up and left it 90% of the time. After the 3rd time bringing it down and then back up, two sections locked and I couldn't get them apart to lower them. They like froze together from moisture or who knows. I had to cut them into pieces to get it down. Paid a lot more money for one with a guarantee and had no problems.
    I don't remember if I closed them all the time like you mentioned or grabbed the chrome parts. Maybe that is the trick.

      Its holding up perfectly now that I know not to use the chrome plastic connections. I haven't had a single issue with this replacement pole. I've thought about upgrading to a longer more expensive pole. But I've found most sites we're in have trees that won't let my raise a pole any higher than this one. I still totally recommend this pole.

      That's very American and democratic of you. Peace love and happiness are also very American. To us it isn't a political flag at all. I don't know why don't people think it is. I've down that flag longer than trump had been in politics. It's just a hippie flag. It dates back to when we camped in our 1970 VW with our VW club. I'm not saying you're saying it's political. I'm just mentioning that some people do and I have no idea why. I also don't understand how Apple people suddenly have a problem with pace love happiness and personal freedom. Those are all huge characteristics of the American I grew up in. Treat your neighbor they way you want to be treated etc. Now, certain people act like being a decent person to another individual makes you weak. Again, in just talking not pointing any finger at you. It's just your own honestly and pointing out our abeyance freedom was refreshing assuming we probably wouldn't agree on much more. Thank you for your comment, your honesty and support of American ideology and personal freedom. I wish we'd all remember we're on the same team.
