  • In this video, I give you a look at my new 22-foot RV ladder flag pole plus mounting hardware kit. What's included, features and how it mounts.
    Recently Anne gifted me a new weather station that is also pole-mounted, so I repurposed my previous flag pole holder hardware for it. Since my old flag pole was getting pretty beat up after 7 years of use, I decided to buy myself a brand new pole and holder kit.
    I went with a 22-foot pole kit sold by a company called FlagPole Buddy. The kit is on the pricey side, but the hardware appears to be of high quality. I ended up paying $139 (taxes included) as a special RV Show price.

    Flag Pole Buddy is the best! We bought ours last year at the show, and are very happy with it.

    Looks nice, I need a flag pole. I also have a weather station. It just attaches to my ladder. Since your flagpole can hold 2 flags you should put the Canadian Flag up also besides just the happy face. That would look cool!

      Gonna see how just one does in wind first before giving two a try. I got some neat fish windsocks too. :)

    Hello Ray and Anne - Jumped back to this video because I read something interesting about RV flagpoles and flags this past week. It's a very good thing to have a flag because it will act like a scarecrow (scare-flag) to keep birds from alighting and pooping on the RV roof. Utilitarian and attractive! Hummers welcome.

    I’ve had the same pole for about two years now and love it. The only issue I had was pulling the pins out. Take care when doing so it can chip the fiberglass and start to run down the pole. Another great addition is the led solar light for the top of the pole.

    Ray, I have the same pole. Interesting to see they have added a couple more pins. I need to add those since the pole will collapse in a wind from moving back and forth.

    Perfect timing. I absolutely hate the RV ladder, too straight and too narrow for an old fart like me but I need to get an antenna up in the air. This could be perfect. Put it up high when I'm parked and bring it down when moving. I'll look for them.

    I greatly enjoy watching your videos, they always seem to end too soon 😄
    Even if I'm not going to use this specific application, I always learn something new, like those nylock nuts, had never heard of them - what a smart idea those are!

    Over the past 5 years of RVing, I've never seen anyone with a flag ON their camper that high up. Although, the only camp grounds I've been going to are really plush. I've got a Keystone Cougar 29RLS bumper pull and I found you through Google several years ago.

      Its common to see in the southwest desert, especially around the sand dunes. Also see lots at big RV rallies like in Quartzsite. :)

    From SURPRISE, AZ - Maybe put the base holder further down on the ladder. For 2 reasons...one, you can raise your flagpole from the ground as designed and not have to use a step ladder, and two, it’ll prevent a bit of the swing of the pole that will save your weather station from accidental contact.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 роки тому +1

      My idea was to have the thicker lower sections higher as they have less whip to them versus the thinner sections which will then be farther above the weather station.

      Good eye! Picked up a screw in the tire last month, it didn't go all the way though but thought it best to use the spare. My OEM tires are at the point I need to get new ones so will replace all 4 soon and put the spare back under. :)

    I have had that pole for a while now a couple of years. I had to put additional pins in it to stop it from falling and the main thing was it will fill up with water when it rains. I had to drill a hole in the bottom rubber plug to let it drain. when to wind blows hard the cap will come of causing your flag to be release and you must hunt it down afterwards. I wouldn't buy another.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks I'll keep an eye on it when it rains. I see in the manual they have a note to add tape to the cap so that it fits a little more snug, guess that was a problem.

      Yes, it has DEF, just fill it when it gets low, not really a big deal, maybe need to do it every 3000 miles or so. Here is a link to my truck videos, there is a review video after 4000 miles and an update video 10,000 miles. Cheers! Ray

    As a matter of courtesy, it is appropriate to fly the flag of a foreign nation on your boat when you enter and operate on its waters

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 роки тому

      You bet. Maritime vessels have a long tradition and well-defined flag etiquette. However, IMHO I don't think it really translates to an RVs camped in the desert. For example, no RVs fly a flag while underway, most people that stick one up when camped are doing it for fun of it, like a decoration. You'll see all sorts of them flying at various types of RVer meetups and rallies. Cheers, Ray

    Good video… what size holder rings did you use? Online I see 1” and 1-1/4” . Do you know the outside diameter of the pole at the top? Thanks!!

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Рік тому

      The original plastic rings are a little over 3/4 inch to 1 inch to fit the tapered pole top to bottom flagpolebuddy.com/ols/products/oem-flag-clip-dph-rings-for-16-22-ft-fiberglass-poles The plastic version ends up breaking. I found much better adjustable metal rings with a set screw. amzn.to/3GwAnRE

    Does the vibration of the flag blowing in the wind cause any problems with the screws holding the ladder in place? I noticed my screw holes seem to be getting a little too much play in them. As a matter of fact, I had to shim the holes near the top of the ladder because the screw wouldn't tighten last year. I'm thinking of injecting a hardner into each hole this summer. I don't have a pole, but am worried that it would compound the problem. Cheers!

    Hi Ray, sorry if I missed it, but do you have to screw holes in the ladder?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 роки тому +2

      No, the holders just clamp on around the ladder using the nuts and bolts provided, so no need to do anything to the ladder and being plastic it won't harm the metal. Cheers! Ray

      It's a pretty cheap one, they just throw into the kit, actually says, Made in China. Worth maybe 5-10 bucks. If I was to donate a flag to those folks I'd want to make sure it was a quality one and Made in the USA. Cheers, Ray
