- Over the years I can see that a lot of people don't like this cover. You might disagree, but it's actually really good. Maybe for me it is, because I like Deftones so much...

yep mad respect to those who make it their own. Its always good to pay homage like when Weezer did Africa by toto. However when your making a cover its fine to make it unique/add your own bands spin on it.
The Deftones guys do not make covers, they absorb the song as one of their own and spill it out as their lifes were at stake. As rock spirit as it can gets.

and this is how a COVER is supposed to be played in my opinion. If you want to hear an exact COPY of a song.. than listen to the original.. but if I want to hear a certain band COVER song.. I want that band to play it as if THEY wrote it. Which is what Deftonrs did here and its awesome.

I've always loved this cover. You slow it down and add Chino's voice into the mix, and it just sounds like a very different song. Very cool.

I've seen them perform this song. There were over 10,000 people with me watching the performance. Every single person there sang along. It was very spiritual and fucking amazing. Hands down top five concert moment for me.

Chino is the best. Yes he hurt his vocal chords at the beginning of the white pony tour but hey. He does the best he can now and still has great moments and performances. I know I've seen them live 4 times. My favorite band in the world of all time.

This is a great cover. Not just a complete copy of the song like a lot of Weezer, covers, brought their own spin. Love it.
I fucking love this cover so much because it sounds like they really just jammed it and played through without fully knowing it. If you've been on a band and have played covers for the fuck of it bc you loves certain songs without trying to make it perfect you know what I'm talking about. It's like playing real like rock band like the game it's so fun. You all know it hella well just from liking the song and just jamm and aren't afraid of messing verse structure or sound or anything, it's so beautiful and memorizing bc they sound so deftones while playing it. And chino sounds great lol fuck you all he's just fucking VIBING playing a song he loves in front of a giant crowd. Deftones for life.

Decent cover. I saw Weezer last summer and they were amazing. I'm kind of sad that most people didn't start singing along till around the three minute mark, though.
If Deftones did a studio version of this, it would be killer, though.

I saw Deftones right after White Pony came out, and they played 7 Words/Say it Ain't So as an encore... and it was epic.
I saw him live at a show where he was so wasted he couldn't stand. His pants actually fell off, but he still rocked the show. Deftones are great, beyond belief no matter the state of the how they are messed up. I could listen to these guys all day.

This was very special. Thanks for sharing. Chino's vocals and the addition of the more moody, melodic, Deftones-ish-ness to the already "loud/soft" dynamic of the original was great.

Dang!!! How did I not know this existed?.. Been a Deftones fan for 25 yrs and also really like Weezer, but this one wins in my book. I have yet to hear Deftones do a bad cover. So far, they've all been amazing!

Don't see the problem with this cover, of course he's drunk and of course he's high, and of course they didn't cover it exactly like the original that would be a bit of a bummer
+moldy korn They all love weezer. They always said they cover them just for fun anyway. Chino said that they have such an enormous amount of respect for weezer that that is actually part of the reason they play weezer covers the way they do. He said he knew that they could never do the songs as well as weezer, so they don't go for an EXACT cover, just a fun vibe. You get the point, unfortunate some others don't.

I like Weezer, Say it Ain't So is one of my favorite songs. I think Deftones put a cool spin on it... Don't hate them for paying tribute to a great band like Weezer.
I remember the first time I heard this cover back in 2001 and just being so moved to the point where my eyes started tearing up. I absolutely love the 'Blue Album " & "Around The Fur"

I've been going down a DEEP rabbit hole of deftones covering different artists and i got to say, deftones does some good cover! Kickass!
given, the original is catchy as hell, and also brilliant and a totally awesome song. but this portrays so much emotion! the slower tempo makes it so much easier to relate to, it's a great cover. the imperfections match the song so well. to those of you who don't like this version, i don't know what to say because to me it's beautiful. so full of emotion, and it speaks to me on a personal level. this song abandons the pop quality of the original. and that's what makes it great.

Chinos ability to hit the notes that high in a scream is uncanny. Haven't heard anyone come close, at least not in the same way.
