Trucks is amazing and so cool. Basically wears the same thing whether playing with his wife or Eric Clapton, and just jams cool as a cucumber. Sounds great.
Thanks for the upload Scott. Great as usual. It got me more psyched about seeing Grace tonight. Fabulous cover from one of my 2 all time favorite bands done by the second one. Rock on Bro.
Dear Hungus, I can't imagine what you think is great classic rock, if you think this fantastic song is shit! Makes me wonder if you even should b commenting on this music;) ps. Cham, live perfomances are for just that, mix it up, a lyric here and a lyric there, its the quality and emotion that matter!! BOOOYAAA!!

Excerpt: On September 28, 1968, this song reached its peak US chart position of #63. That same day, Jackie DeShannon's cover reached its peak of #55 US. DeShannon's release wasn't what she had in mind. She explained in our interview: "I absolutely said, 'No way I'm going to do it, it's The Band's record, goodbye.' But the label kept calling me, so I finally said, 'Well, if you can get confirmation from The Band that they're not putting it out as a single and I can do it with their permission, then okay.' So, I recorded it. The record's going up the chart and all of a sudden, here comes The Band's single. Then Aretha Franklin's version comes out. So I was at a radio station talking to the program director, and there were two other people promoting the same record outside the door." Aretha Franklin's version was the biggest hit, reaching #19 in March, 1969. Many other acts have since covered the song. A version by Diana Ross and the Supremes with The Temptations reached #46 in October, 1969, which was the last time it charted in America. The song was also recorded by: A Group Called Smith, The Black Crowes, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Joan Osborne, Keller Williams, King Curtis & Duane Allman, Otis & Travis, Rotary Connection, Spooky Tooth, and The Ventures.
Agreed, not the best cover. If you want to see a really sweet cover of the John Prine classic, Angel from Montgomery check out Tedeschi Trucks and Grace at Red Rocks, it is truly beautiful.
I've appreciated the music of a lot of the people in this video for many years, although I can't help but wonder: aren't these vocal stylings are a little over the top for this song? I think by now we all know these women are established and accomplished...there's no need to turn it into an American Idol competition.
Well said, my exact thoughts watching.... One thing in Susan's defense is I don't think she could hear & so repeated lyrics Grace just sang. I'm not real fond of this rendition, though a huge fan of all musicians & especially the song. Which may be my problem w/this rendition since I consider it a classic in it's own not needing to be tweaked or jazzed up....
Grace is completely wasting her talent in the Nocturnals. She has the voice for old school Blues. She'd be a star if she'd join up with Warren and become the lead singer of Government Mule. I've never seen her perform with Warren when it wasn't absolutely electrifying.
I haven't been able to sit through an entire video of hers yet except watching her with Warren on "Gold Dust Woman." She's no Stevie Nicks. She's annoying, honestly. I have not heard her do a cover that she has managed to improve or even hold a candle to the original. Warren could find better.
Massacre of a great song, bad timing, lousy out of tune singing, and rhythm section doing drunk routine. Just plain lousy. Guitars cannot make a difference.
I wonder if even half of the crowd knew how lucky they were to see this
I swear to God every time Grace and Warren jam together magic happens. I love them together, wish it was on more permanent basis.............
+tim teague agree!!!!!
ah, Susan has way more talent, vocal range
I don't always comment on UA-cam videos, but when I do . . . I make damn sure they are worth watching.

I could not love this more! HOT FREAKING DAMN!!!!!!!!

Maybe it’s not the best sound quality but I think this is the way live music should be...spontaneous and full of energy.

"The Weight" The Band
I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, "no" was all he said
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)
I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on let's go downtown"
She said, "I gotta go but my friend can stick around"
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)
Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke and Luke's waitin' on the Judgment Day
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, won't you stay and keep Anna Lee company?"
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me

He said, "I will fix your rack if you'll take Jack, my dog"
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man"
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can"
Yeah, take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)
Catch a cannon ball now to take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

This is the Aretha Franklin Version that Duane made Famous and is every bit as good as the original Band version, if not better!
Agreed, not the best cover. If you want to see a really sweet cover of the John Prine classic, Angel from Montgomery check out Tedeschi Trucks and Grace at Red Rocks, it is truly beautiful.
This is the Duane Allman/Aretha Franklin version, hence it sounds different.

Didn't come out like that for me,,, This has the feeling and touch of the version Aretha Franklin did that Duane Allman played on,,,
Off a phone and yeah be great

It seems to me that Grace can sing. But, she tries too hard. Comes off as kind of fake. She can't fake soul. Know what I mean?
Amen!!!
Agreed. She should stick to mellower music- "Low Road", "Stars"- her voice is great on those songs.Leave the high octane stuff to Susan.
