    Normally, I'd ask "Won't the sprinkles get moldy?" But there was that one time five years ago when, inspired by this channel, I encased a cherry tomato in polyester resin. It's gotten paler, but that thing still hasn't rotted.

      Bacteria need 6 things in order to grow. 1) Enough food. 2) The appropriate acidity. 3) Time. 4) Hospitable Temperature. 5) Oxygen. 6)Moisture. Encasing something in resin will starve the Bacteria needed for something to rot of at least Oxygen if not several factors.

    I think the threaded insert and nut are only held in place by a tiny amount of hardened UV resin on the outside. Because the UV can't get to the other resin that is between the wall and the metal since the wall is not that transparent, because it's full of sprinkles.

    • @nodowt
      @nodowt Рік тому +24

      Which is also likely why the threaded insert was pushed deeper when put back onto the lathe…

      @@peterbrownwastaken yeah, I kept expecting that to be the 'gotcha' of the video. Basically UV resin only works if the light can actually get to the resin to cure it. So if the item were clear (ie: translucent resin), that would work fine.

    • @scribblargh

    • @victoriaeads6126
      @victoriaeads6126 Рік тому +10

    For future reference, when dealing with small spheres, the voids between the spheres make up about 35%-40% of the volume depending on how close you pack them (e.g. stirring improves packing). If you want a table, Wikipedia has one on the page for Random close pack. This can help you estimate your resin volumes better in future.
