Next year we'll need to see a wrapping paper micarta project.
yes
I'd say go for shreds in resin instead of micarta, you could get more variety that way probably
could be a great way to use used wrapping paper
Great idea
@@stitchfinger7678 but Peter has such a love for micarta! Don't take this away from him!
“Are those clean gloves!?”
“God I hope so!”
I love the commentary in these!
The commentary of Peter alone was great already, but the interaction between him and mrs. Brown is even better.
@@kleinisfijn I completely agree! Their interactions just made me smile the entire time I watched the vid
😆
Oh, man, I laughed so hard. XD
my favourite is : i think you gonna eat it like i did. No i´m not that dumb xD
I love when you involve your wife in these. The commentary is amazing.
I do too, but Peter, if you're going to quote Frank Zappa to her, please teach her right!
"Watch out where the huskies go,
"And don't you eat that yellow snow"
The Christmas themed "Dye Trying" episodes should be called "Dye Hard"
Yes.
😆
Hahhaa YES
Oh yes, a Mrs. Brown episode. She's my favourite character!
She's a... She's a person lol
Cranberry sauce is one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving! And Ocean Spray is a 100% farmer-owned cooperative, so you can feel good about buying it!
That's exactly what Big Cranberry wants you to believe. Wake up, sheeple!
I recently learned that Florida brand orange juice is as well! I'm glad there are companies that are 100% farmer-owned coops.
My favorite part was licking the lid (Always lick from the center out! Figured that out at age 4 w/o injury!). Then someone decided the top of the can is not to be opened.
@@Crow_Smith Most coops are farmer owned. Some even have chickens in them.
(Why you shouldn't skip the - in co-op)
I knew that red background was skewing all those greenish pigments toward brown 😂 You guys were so worried and I'm like "color theory, guys, it's gonna be okay!"
I know. 😂 color theory was one of my favorite art classes ever.
Dye Trying is a relationship goal. You two having fun and experimenting with insane concoctions is what ever couple should hope to have.
I think the reason why some of your snowflakes stuck to the mold is because it’s 3+ years old. I’ve been having that issue with some of my older silicone molds lately. Over time, the silicone begins to harden which makes it harder for the cured resin to separate from it. I haven’t tried mold release, but perhaps that could help?
Silicone absorbs fats/oils and that weakens it's atomic bonds. It could theoretically absorb them from the air, but not sure how that would happen in a workshop. Google says food grade silicone has a shelf life of 10-20 years, but I found data on specific silicone manufacturing processes that range from 1 to 40 years for their shelf life.
It could also just be too detailed
Hoping to see arrow root in this one day! It's such a pure white powder, and easily obtainable in the spice section at a grocery store.
Maybe he should do a whole spice rack episode of Dye Trying where all of the potential dyes are from what you would have in a spice rack. Some are bound to be good dyes like saffron or turmeric.
That'd be a fun one.
@@BarryFrancis There was turmeric in Dye Trying 2, but it'd be cool to see more spices like chilli powder
@@s.h.v.c2865 I bet paprika would be gorgeous!
While I respect Mrs. Brown, I must reserve judgement of her for her incorrect hatred of the beloved Cranberry sauce!
It's my favorite cranberry sauce!
Agreed!
I did not like cranberry sauce until I was introduced to the idea of putting the sauce on Turkey *with* gravvy. It is divine.
I prefer the homemade kind my mom made with a bag of cranberries, an orange, and a box of raspberry jello, if I eat it at all.
@@dollhousemakr that's not cranberry sauce, that's just cranberry jello with an orange
I love dye trying episodes! How about trying one with pomegranate seeds/juice, that stuff's hard to get out of anything
Hey Peter, I was watching a copper tea-kettle restoration, and the oxidation was a beautiful turquoise, and I wondered if that could be scraped off and used as a dye
Here is the video of the restoration if you were wondering, ua-cam.com/video/RlDbj5lx1O8/v-deo.html
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this
That would likely work, dry powders have been pretty successful so far!
Copper oxide is usually the main ingredient in teal dye, so probably ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Speaking of gravy, you should try that powdered au jus gravy stuff. What could go wrong?
Also, I know you did cocoa powder, but what about strawberry nesquik? That may give you a decent pink, and you may get a lighter brown color if you tried ovaltine powder.
WEEK LATER EDIT: Do they still make fun dip? Not only could you try the powder itself, but you could crush up the hard candy stick that comes with it and see how good of a white dye it makes.
These are fun. I'm glad you do them so infrequently that it's always a fun surprise and not "oh, this again."
This series always brings a smile to my face! Anthocyanin in berries turn redder in acids and bluer in bases, but who knew that cranberry sauce would work so well in resin?!?
You need to get the NON-jellied cranberry sauce. I am blessed to have a Mrs WordsNWood who cans it herself from frozen whole cranberries. It's on the table every time we have roast chicken or turkey. SO good. (But seriously, Peter, how did you NOT already know your spouses' opinions on cranberry sauce?)
I had no idea. I thought she was joking!?
I'm going to try whole spices in resin; I bet that looks interesting as long as you don't overdo it. I've got 5 different whole peppercorns to start with: black, white, green, pink, and szechuan!
Cardamom pods would probably look really cool
I love these. I run an art shop and direct so many people to these videos to give them ideas when they're starting with resin and don't want to spend a fortune on pigments/dyes.
Someday im gonna set up a store for dnd dice that only uses dye trying pigments. There's some super awesome ones
That sounds so cursed, I love it.
“Are those clean gloves?!”
“God, I hope so.”
is the two wolves inside me lmao
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow dernernernerrr" That was my attempt at spelling the guitar riff at the end there...lol My wife said she didn't know she could like you any more than we already do and you go and quote a Zappa song.. Merry Christmas and happy new year, thank you for another year of great inspiring projects!
Here's the song.

Right about that time, people, a fur trapper, who was strictly from commercial...

When Mrs. Brown says “agreed” I know that’s the truest thing to ever be said before
I think some paint strainers might be a good, disposable alternative to the fine mesh sieve
I think it would be really cool to see a bob ross resin painting with all the different dyes! Just to see how they all mix together!
For that you may have to go over to Evan and Kaitlyn. They do resin projects but also have a few bob Ross inspired ones. They might be willing to try it.
I'm with mrs. brown on the clove resin. i think it looks lovely with the light shining through
Big win for the Jell-O, and you just know that there are as many colours available as you could possibly wish for!
the sugar free powder is a lot less because sugar takes up a ton of the volume in stuff, also the reason why diet soda cans float
Wow, how rude of whoever delayed this video with a big magnifying glass ;-)
So Inconsiderate!
The cloves looked like a toasted marshmallow dropped in the dirt LOL. Loved the Jello one though.
Awesome picks Peter and Mrs Brown.
Love the commentary from you both. All the best for 2023.
Hey Peter, I have a suggestion for the next Dye Trying: White-out. I've used it and got great results, but you need to mix it inmediately after pouring it on the resin. Happy new year!
White out was in Dye Trying 5
He's tried it before and the resin turned to power.
@@ieuanhunt552 That was the calamine lotion, the white out set solid
When I was a kid, every summer at swim meets, we would all get packs of jello and eat it straight out of the package. For “energy”. We were weird. Btw, black cherry or black raspberry was the best!
I love that Mrs brown is a regular part of dye trying. Her commentary compliments your wit
"Don't be a naughty eskimo boy... Watch out where those huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow" *Frank Zappa*
That is the correct quotation. Thank you.
It's so funny listening to you and Mrs. Brown banter back and forth. Commentary on these are always great!
The cranberry jelly turning green was unexpected! I knew about other natural PH indicators like red cabbage and grape skins, but didn't know cranberries were in that category!
Blueberry skins too.
@@derschwartzadder I found that one accidentally! Just washing a bowl I defrosted some blueberries in changes the colour.
The brown one looked so cool. I agree it looked gold coming through.
I just want to clarify - I've never used resins, nor plan on doing so in the future - but I've watched every Dye Trying and co vid since day dot, and still love watching them XD
I’m with Mrs Brown the clove dust is real pretty and looks like gold dust 🤗🤗🤗
Have you ever tried adding a tiny bit of Rit(R) Whitening Powder and seeing what the dyes look like, with and without the Rit(R) and under UV light?
i agree with the Mrs Brown, with the light shining behind the cloves are almost glittery gold and bronze
Cranberry sauce IS AMAZING
THANK YOU!
@@peterbrownwastaken BOO!
It's SO GOOD. Homemade, canned, I don't care, give me the cranberry sauce!
I have to agree with Mrs Brown: BOO! That stuff is nasty.
I love the videos with Mrs Brown. The relationship and dynamic is wonderful.
Right! Couple goals for sure!
I love the banter between you and Mrs. Brown. We need her in more videos
I love the banter with you & Mrs. Brown in this video! I also love that the poetry & singing have returned!
Happy Weekend Amber, That’s so thoughtful of you, Thanks for your positive review, Happy new year to you, How are you and how’s the weather over there?
Lovely to see the missus hanging out and gettin' grossed out in the shop, the interplay and the shenanigans made me giggle like a schoolkid. Great stuff!
I knew he was gonna put it in his mouth but the panicked "are those clean gloves?!" was hilarious confirmation.
I absolutely LOVE when Mrs. Brown joins in on the videos! Such a loveable woman. ʕ •ᴥ• ʔ
So much joy when I see that you've uploaded. Thanks for the entertainment!
I love the energy between you two!
Yes! My favorite series.
I actually really like the candy cane, if you want something for the holidays it definitely looks festive. Have a happy new year!
I love the videos you two do together.
Mrs. Brown is a blessing unto this world I love her commentary on these videos! I also agree entirely canned cranberry sauce is nasty! Making it yourself is infinitely better
I love your resin pump system!
I always enjoy Mrs. Brown's input!! That peppermint is lovely!! 💖💖
Hell yeah!! I love this series so much
You two are such a fun duo, your banter is so funny.
Happy New Year!
happy new year guys thank you for all the entertained this year look forward to next years videos xx
You and Mrs Brown are too hilarious together! More please! ❤️❤️
i love the videos with Mrs Brown. Your banter is so funny and wholesome.
Very interesting. I love the blue and greens. Jello and the gel color.
I love this series for some reason.
Happy New Year to You and Mrs. Brown too!
I agree with Mrs. Brown, the clove one is actually kinda pretty and it does look like gold shining through.
It's a rare mostly successful Dye Trying episode. These are always fun! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the great content. Happy New Year Mr. and Mrs. Brown!
The clove one looks so pretty!
Thank you Peter and Mrs. Brown for always putting out such great and honest content. Have a happy new year! Looking forward to more.
I really enjoy these videos with you both doing these experiments together 😊
Please, please, please make more "Dye Trying" videos. LOVE THESE!
y'all, I love these videos and I love you two so much. I always finish the video smiling. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!
The cloves do look pretty, I agree with Mrs. Brown!
I hope you include your wife more often because the back and forth between you two is really funny!!!
@Peterbrownwastaken. IMPOSTER!!!!!
Cranberry sauce one of those things around the holidays that will divide a family lol, either you love it or you hate it
Chem student here! Water is a very polar molecule, which allows it to interact with the orbzees and fake snow like a magnet sticking to metal. Resin on the other hand is an organic molecule that isn't very polar so like oil and water it has a hard time sticking to the orbeeze and fake snow.
Man I love this series!
Grinding up the cloves made me think, you should try some more spices! (pre dried and powdered for convenience)
-tumeric for yellow
-paprika for red
etc
What’s the greenest herb…
It's the most wonderful time of the year when you do a dye trying episode
I gotta agree with Mrs. Brown. The cloves gives the effect of gold coming through the settled brown. Gives a cool look and might be useful in some forms.
I know people say this every time Mrs Brown appears in a video but they are such an adorable couple.
One of my favorite series lets gooooo
Happy new year indeed!!
The Zappa reference was golden!
You guys are hilarious together.
I love that Mrs Brown is becoming more and more of a regular.
I've said it before, but you two kill me with your banter together 😂
If the resin is too thick, I wonder if the deep-pour apoxy would do anything to the Orbeez. Or that stabilizer resin. But that stuff is probably too expensive to experiment with.
This is quality banter.
Happy New Year Mr. & Mrs. Brown!
I loved the Zappa referance !
Oh, man, cranberry sauce is so good. Great experiments, thank you! Great to see this series continue.
Love these experiments 😁
Looking forward to Dye Trying 9: Dye Harder.
Happy New Year !! Hope to see Mrs. Brown on more videos
Happy Holidays Mr. and Mrs. Brown!!! :) Thank you so much for these videos, they just make my day and you and the Mrs. are cute together :) Such a joy :)
Mrs. Brown is right! The cloves look cool!
Dear Brown family, I really enjoy your videos :) happy new year to you both and I hope 2023 is kind to you!
Awesome and amazing video. Thank you. I was just scrolling back through your videos and it's crazy to see that you have been posting for 9 years. I have been watching for 7 to 8 years I believe. I didn't even realize it had been so long. Thank you for being so diligent in making wonderful content for your community to enjoy.
