This is the last song of every Kris Kristofferson concert and it comes from deep in his heart. Let me add that he probably has the highest IQ of any recording artist still alive. Quite a guy!
@Bruce Kuehn both Kris and Johnny had genius-level measured IQs. Kris’ IQ is documented at 163 and Johnny’s is documented at 160. Kris is a Rhodes Scholar who studied at Oxford University in the United Kingdom and he gave up a teaching position at the West Point Military Academy to become a musician. Johnny is even more remarkable given that he grew up very poor in a small cotton farming community (he lived in a house that had no electricity, no running water, and no indoor plumbing); he picked cotton from 5 years old until 18 years old; he only had a High School diploma and never went to college or university; he started writing poems at 12 years old and wrote over 1,000 songs himself over his lifetime; and he became very well-read on a number of subjects that included history, literature, music, theology, and the Bible - he owned an extensive library of books and is known to have read books extensively and continuously, even when on tour. In addition to being very close friends, great songwriters/performers/entertainers, and amazing musicians, Kris and Johnny were very highly intelligent men.
@@BarryHope-bj5um if you research Kris Kristofferson you will find out that he actually gave up the teaching position at West Point and moved to Nashville to become a songwriter and musician - he did not teach there in the end. He gave several interviews over the years that he discussed and explained this - he stated that his parents were very angry with him when he did this - his mother sent him a letter when he was in Nashville working as a janitor in the early days, disowning him, which he shared with Johnny Cash.
Why me Lord, what have I ever done To deserve even one Of the pleasures I've known Tell me Lord, what did I ever do That was worth loving you Or the kindness you've shown. Lord help me Jesus, I've wasted it so Help me Jesus I know what I am Now that I know that I've need you so Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hand. Tell me Lord, if you think there's a way I can try to repay All I've taken from you Maybe Lord, I can show someone else What I've been through myself On my way back to you. Lord help me Jesus, I've wasted it so Help me Jesus I know what I am Now that I know that I've need you so Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hand
This video cuts off too quickly. The dvd captures the full audience response to this beautiful and heartfelt song. The applause goes on and on, including from the other three guys and the entire band, until Kris is actually biting his lip to keep from crying and is looking over to Waylon, who is due to sing next, to get him to rescue him. Waylon clowns around as he starts the intro to "Lukenbach, Texas" to give Kris time to compose himself. Now that's a friend. Kris and Waylon considered themselves to be the foot soldiers of the outfit and John and Willie to be the generals.
Kristofferson - genius - For me a tribute to an older Classmate named George Swerbinsky - a brilliant, kind, and handsome young man lost to that unnecessary war. He came back 'lost' and then died young. I ran into him when I first moved home and spoke with him at length at a local bar/restaurant. He was mature - extremely intelligent. My heart aches for those who lost their lives or died young from the horror they had to endure. George died at 56 years old in his home town - working on family farms. People of the earth - yet, he was a top notch student known for his great intellect, great character, and handsome without knowing it. Had he not been 'punished' with the Draft, he would have lived the life of many his age - Scientist - comes to mind when I think of George. Great Ambassador as well. So humble. A natural educator on any topic. Crying in the rain -
Born Wednesbury 1937.Very proud to be a Black Country Mon. Remember Jack Holden on his regular training stint, from Tipton down Dudley Street Wednesbury turn right up Great Western street, where I used to live left into Potters lane, then left back into Dudley street, then back um to Tipton. The kids used to follow him part of his journey. Reminds me of the " Rocky" film. Great times So proud of Jack Holden were the Black Country people.
You should see the full performance on the live DVD. UA-cam only shows part of the applause and Kris's response. By the end, he is pressing his lips together hard to keep from sobbing.as the audience remains on its feet and his 3 fellow Highwaymen and the entire band are applauding. He is a very emotional man. When he spoke at Johnny Cash's funeral, he could barely keep it together.
Es extraordinario como autor, compositor y lo que más le honra... es que es una excelente persona.. ¡Chris, esperamos tenerte entre nosotros muchos años más! ❤❤❤❤
Look up the dictionary definition of ‘powerful’. An amazing songwriter, and a credit to the United States of America. The American dream in a nutshell (with a little bit of a good ol’ fashioned Oxford education). Not biased in the slightest.

These so called country singers of today, can take some well deserved advise from these legends.
How are you doing
Like Beyonce? She may be singing, but not country. Let's hear her sing about Jesus.

This song and Sunday Morning Coming Down are two of the best songs ever written. This is what good music really is.

A Beautiful Song. Not bad having Willie, Waylon and Johnny as your backup singers
Why me Lord, what have I ever done
To deserve even one
Of the pleasures I've known
Tell me Lord, what did I ever do
That was worth loving you
Or the kindness you've shown.

Help me Jesus I know what I am
Now that I know that I've need you so
Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hand.
Tell me Lord, if you think there's a way
I can try to repay
All I've taken from you
Maybe Lord, I can show someone else
What I've been through myself
On my way back to you.

Help me Jesus I know what I am
Now that I know that I've need you so
