Grats on your purchase. Only advice I can give is take your time with your build / repairs and do it right the first time. Oh and research, research, research.
Nice man, just be careful leaning / pushing on your door when it’s open like that. Can warp the hinges and when you try to close it the latch won’t line up right anymore and you’ll have to lift the door to get it to shut. Don’t ask how I know haha.
Just had to say thanks! I replaced the interior upper plastic trim piece on my door panels and was having a hell of a time getting the panel to sit back into the top rail when putting them on. Then I noticed that you sort of slid it into place around the 15 minute mark. That was the trick! Thanks!
My passenger side the window was crack from the screws hitting it due to now having the window seal so thanks for loading this video up. Very helpful..Dallas tx .,
It turned out perfect. I took my time and I had my mind right before I started! I also did the t top trim and weather stripping. My camaro had a 305 I put in a built up 350 thats around 500 hp. Put in posi with 3.73 gears. All new red leather interior. Stuck alot of $ in it. Not a spot of rust.
I have a 88 IROCZ 5.7 in the garage. Good luck. Spohn.net hands down best suspension and anything else they make. Hawks third gen will have pretty much everything else. Dream big.
Getting ready to tackle this project on my '86 Trans Am, this info is beyond valuable. I look forward to binging the other episodes in this repair series, looking forward to tackling my own project car in a much better informed state thanks to the info.
I got to say man I love that color I was thinking about buying me one with the same color but I ended up getting a blue one. Started watching this channel for the beard reviews and the tips and stuff and then found out you started doing Camaro videos around the time that I bought one.
My 1990 IROC had a short that made the door locks go on and off at will and the windows would go up and down at the same time with the locks . I had to pull the fuse to make the madness stop . Wish I did not sell it though loved that car .
Great series. I had a 1986 Z28 so all your videos bring back good memories. I know you said you would have the T-Tops off most of the time but....any idea on how to fix leaking T-Tops? That was the problem with my Camaro.
Got my camaro a few weeks ago it’s a 87 iroc-z all original. I bought it for $1200 which was a total steal. Doing a carpet kit right now. I use this stuff called vpr by chemical guys it works amazingly for all sorts of rubbers and plastics.
This was good. Wish I saw this before I replaced mine on my firebird. Another way to get those pesky bolts is there is a rubber "stopper" at the bottom of the window. If you remove this you can lower the window even lower. I figured this out because apparently my passenger side stopper is missing and it was easy as fuck to replace the sweep on that side. And I could not figure out why the driver door window wouldn't go lower. Took my slow brain forever to figure it out but once I did i think it was a bit easier than your way and no risk of damaging the glass. Props!
I bought donor doors for my 91 camaro with much better parts, the donors were from an 87 and they used phillips head screws to hold in the outer window sweeps. Not sure if that comes stock like that for an 87 but I swapped out all the screws in place of the little hex screws, much easier to get them in if you don't already own a ratchet wrench :)
Been working on my Sons car for about a year now. He died in a car wreck in 2008. The drives side window works however the inside us gutted. The passenger door is fine but the window doesn't work. GR8 video. TY for any and all info.
There are (2) different types.. One with the SMALLER HEAD and the other with a LARGER head.. I didn't know that and ended up buying what turned out to by the SMALLER heads and luckily the ebay seller gave me my money back after I notified him of the 2 versions.
I installed the door weather stripping and I have to say that was one of the WORST INSTALLS I've had to do. NOTHING correctly lined up! The plastic rivets were out and required you to STRETCH the weather stripping to line up to the next hole. Basically all of them had to be installed or the rivets would start to pull right out of the weather stripping itself. The WORST PART is the weather stripping at the top towards the inner door. The rubber is SO THICK it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to push it where it needed to go and then that caused 2 of the rivets to pull away. I gobbed on black RV silicone and QUICKLY put the door panel back together and closed the door hoping if I leave it closed for a week that it will harden and STICK the weatherstripping to the door. The door is SO DIFFICULT to close, almost to the point that you could bend the door panel pushing the door.. 1. How was your install? 2. Was it difficult to close? (requiring HARD SHUTTING) 3. If so, how long did it take before you can actually shut it normally or is that PERMANENT NOW???
What BRAND did you get? I've read that Fairchild are the BEST opposed to actual NOS but the Fairchilds TEAR at the seam as they glue corners to the rubber weather stripping that goes along the door. Any update?
I don't remember which brand I got. I honestly didn't even know there was more than one brand making reproduction third gen sweeps. I'll have to look into that. Mine are actually ruined now and have to be replaced due to what I'm going to talk about in the next camaro video. No fault of the manufacturer though
Do you have an insta page or somewhere where I can see how the sweeps fit when you installed them? I ordered some from Classic and don't like the fitment. They don't cover as the old ones did
The outer sweeps are an absolute pain in the butt. I just did my passenger door yesterday and Mine has Phillips head screws I had to take a tiny stubby Phillips bit and a ratchet wrench to loosen the bolts. I used the sweeps from Fairchild and non of the holes lined up. A bit annoying honestly
Need some advice on switching out the inner window sweeps. They're no designed to be removed, it appears. If anyone has done these, let me know. Not finding any info out there. I bought a full set of 4, and figured might as well swap them all.
Hey hopefully you still respond to these comments but, do you know where you got those sweeps and seals, i got mine for rpui by softseal and they came out garbage, the sweeps dont align proerly with the holes and the rubber seals are too thick which caused my door to not close right. I wanna know where you got yours
mine came from hawks motorsports. Hawks used to be just third gen camaro stuff, but now they have a bunch of car stuff. Their third gen stuff is usually really great
@@Daniel-jl6vc yessir. One thing to be careful of is if you get the outer door seals, the ones that go around the bottom, if you decide to do those I would go to 1A auto for those. The 1A auto ones have plastic reinforcement like the oem ones, and the hawks ones don't as far as I know of
@@beardedreviews thanks for the headsup. I dont mind if it doesnt have the plastic. At this point all i care is that my door closes. I ordered some from hawks about an hr ago. So hopefully they arrive soon. Thanks for the advice much appreciated.
@@beardedreviews my Firebird needs it. You made it seem pretty easy to get it loose. I was just looking for some insight into getting the trim off and back on. Thanks a TON for the videos. They're super helpful.
Is there a difference between the sweeps for camaros and trans 3rd gen? I ordered them but seems like the holes on the door are a bit lower and the last hole by the door handle is off by half an inch to the left
@Johnny Thornton ultimately had to drill 2 holes on the outside sets as they were off by a bit. Make sure to save the old sweeps to measure out the holes as on one of mine I threw out before I realized. These are the "best fitting" between two sets I've bought. The other from Rockauto had all the holes misaligned these had more holes matching up.
Alright thanks for the reply I ended up ordering a set of inner and outters from firebird centrel they were like 10 dollars more but I figured the gotta be the right ones
@Johnny Thornton you would think! Lol I hope they fit. If you are doing weather stripping as well, I recommend staying away from the ones that look "bubbly" at the ends. Causing my doors not to shut properly. Trying to figure out what i can do without spending extra $
For sure cheaper is better if it works I’m just doing top felts and those vertical triangle things the car sat in storage most of its life the door seals themselves are actually still nice guess felts just cracked and dried out
