@@thomasdeshler3327 I think in the original video Ed said the lease was somewhere around $200/month. Well, that $2400 is about the difference between the price and the residual after $40K in discounts. Lane departure mitigation is incredibly unsafe because it throws you back in the lane even if you were purposely trying to veer out of it (like someone merging into your lane or if there are some weird construction lines).
I drove my sons 1998 f250 pickup yesterday. All it does is buzz if you leave the keys in the ignition or leave the lights on and open the door.......perfect.....
There are no wires to cut. Once the lithium cells are punctured, the stored energy will continue to be released until the chemical fuel is exhausted (or you can deprive the cells of oxygen to extinguish the fire). I suppose EV manufacturers could place the batteries in an armored case, but that would probably add unmanageable weight and expense to the vehicle.
I heard the traffic sign warning alarm is a bug….it should remember your settings and save it to your Audi profile. Once you turn it off, it should remain off. Audi has an update for it that will correct it (or so the Audi interwebs say).

I had Taycan for 6 months on a lease. It was great, probably the best driving experience of my life. But, it was great if your trip is within its’ range (i.e. from home to hotel is within the range, so you can charge at the destination). Everything above is just not worth it now! From my place to Vienna (Austria) is cca850 km. This meant 3 charging stops, compared to one fuel stop. And that translates to 2,5 hours longer trip with Taycan compared to my Volvo V90 CC diesel. Currently not worth it.
On the indicator stalk, there is a button on the very end of it that will turn off the lane keep assist which is steering for you. Holding it for about 3 seconds should do the trick :)
It’s great when people don’t take the time to look at the manual and then complain about functions that are easy to turn off. I’ve owne an etron and now have an etron S. Both have fairly putrid range compared to Teslas, but are unmatched in terms of a more luxury car experience than many EV’s and importantly, the fact that their EV SUV’s feel similar to drive to their ICE equivalents. Once Audi figures out their battery range issue, the product will really be stellar, but for now, they have to fit your use case to make sense. It sounds like this car is perfect for his wife’s use case currently and fortunately, he got a great deal on it. Drive this for utility and hop in the Lambo when you want to drive for ‘fun’.
I have an Ioniq 5 and I do love driving it, it can be fun. Not as fun as something with a stick shift, but fun nonetheless. I do turn things like lane centering, and auto steer off cause they are annoying. Most cars you can turn the dinging for the speed limit off completely or at least turn the volume of the alert all the way down.
I jumped on Ed’s bandwagon and bought an Audi Etron GT too after watching Nick explain the lease on Vinwiki. And thus far i like the car. Unlike ed, i bought the car as an additional car and not a replacement, so it’s a slightly different story, but as an additional car it’s a lot of fun. Not sure I’d be happy with it as a replacement tho.
Got a (not as good deal as Ed) similar lease for RS etron GT. It's a great ride. Had dealer apply a TSB software update so that I don't keep getting that beeping warning every time I restart the car.
I was going to say, almost all the gripes are in every new car, not just EV's. However, they are fun. I always try and reference we are experiencing the new electric world the same way cars came in the 20th century. Where were cars and how were they in our society in 1924. We are kinda there.
I suspect that as fully electric battery vehicles really get much, much better technically that sales will really pick up. I am talking a distance of 800-900 miles on a full battery.
im sure they will have a 800 to 900 mile even 1000 mile range eventually in the future, and if it can recharge to 100 percent in like 15 to 20 minutes and the range doesnt get affected by the weather for example in the winter ,then no one is gonna complain ever again.
Ed, there's an emergency plug that's been released which is used by first responders to kill battery in the event of an explosion or a fire. Sanďy Munro talks about it on his channel.
Save a shortcut for the speed limit warning. I’m not sure if there’s another trick like in BMWs where you hold the SET button on the steering to disable the warning
I have one as a daily. I LOVE it. I agree with Ed that the lane keep and other electronic nannies are super annoying so I keep those all turned off at all times. For comfort, speed and ease of use as a daily it is amazing. Under "normal" driving I've found the range is dead on. Yes, if you launch from every stop you will burn it down a lot faster but with tire being $2K/ set the novelty of launching begins to wear off fast. I have 2017 and 2022 Model X as well and the fit, finish, and driving experience on the Audi is so much better. My only real gripe about the car is I wish it had another 100 miles of range and Electrify America sucks compared to Tesla. 80% of the time you pull up to a charger station on or more is offline and they rarely charge at full speed. Because of that, for longer trips that require more than one charge stop to get there I still have a gas vehicle.
I just subscribed I follow taverish and Tyler but now I know you have this not just vinwiki new content thank you so much bud, we talked before I build honda ruckus's
Ed why do the one pay lease? If the Audi is totaled tomorrow, aren’t you out all that money? Versus making your payments over the course of the lease? Heck, you could even keep the money in the bank and invest it elsewhere.
The lender is going to take an enormous bath at the end of that lease as EV depreciation is simply off the charts. Sounds like a great deal but if I had to go through the procedure to turn off the chime for exceeding the speed limit every time I drove the car I am not sure how I would feel about it. What on earth is VAG thinking with that?
Leasing is the way to go cause when it starts falling apart in 5 years, you can just turn it in for a new one. That's all new cars are good for. A 5 year lease.
Great video. I agree with everything you said about EVs. By the way you can turn off the speed notification beeps and the annoying lane holding features on the RS e-tron GT.
I would love to have an electric car. I hate going to gas stations around Atlanta and for the majority of my commuting to the office and back and EV would be fine. I can keep my 4Runner for weekend duties. I’m not a “not in my backyard” shake your fist at the kids type of person. I would gladly give up my bmw for a cheapo lease on that eTron. Ppl did give up typewriters and horse drawn carriages after a lot of bellyaching and complaining too.
harrys' garage did a good video about this issue. they've gone to silly, they're too big, to fast, and they're far to expensive, but also to energy ineffecient. that combined with unpredictible battery wear that varies from the way it's charged. makes them really hard to sell on the used market once the lease period on such things is over.

Sticking with my '16 S7 for now but would like to know just how good a deal they offered as my wife's ES300h is now 10 years old and she has just over 100K miles on it so....may be following your lead on her behalf
I went from a mustang to a performance model 3, and I totally agree with the speed is a novelty. I feel I only ever use the speed for other people to give them a “Tesla grin” Miss the mustang and the raw feel. As soon as I can I’ll be getting another ICE
I believe that Audi is one of four electric cars a Finnish insurance company will not insure because of the replacement price of the battery pack. Not a joke.
Had one..kept it 6 months and got rid of it before the values tanked. Range sucks and too heavy to have fun with. Went back to a 911 and now all is good.
Even though I’ve raced solar powered cars in college I will never bring myself to buy a battery powered EV. Maybe a hydrogen fuel cell one day but who knows, like you I love internal combustion engines too much
My fun car will never be an EV, but as a daily car I’ll buy whatever minimizes my expenses and meets my needs. EVs do not today as it’s not uncommon for me drive 700 miles a day.
I have often thought of the power required to move such a heavy vehicle (all EVs) but I’m then reminded of how much gas we use to power V8 & V12 super cars and Yukon Denalis. And also how inefficient it is for me to drive my Binmer 100mph +. As much as I want to say it’s different with EVs, it’s not really. We pay for what we want.
Thanks Ed, this really clarifies EVs for me. I’m exactly like you & many others as I just don’t like or ever want one. I’ll keep my Panamera Turbo & C8.
I am a car enthusiast thru and thru. I can name the internal chassis codes on most performance models going back to the 60's. I grew up riding ATV's and dirtbikes. I've owned several manual transmission cars and as soon as I have enough disposable cash when the kids graduate, I'm buying another manual transmission, gas engined car. Because like Ed, I'm a car enthusiast. Hearing the screaming engine of an NA V8 or V12 at full throttle literally makes the hair on my arms stand up. Why is it so hard to admit, that for the 99.99999999% of people who are on the roads with us, an EV is ACTUALLY A BETTER DRIVING EXPERIENCE! They have gobs of torque right off the line, perfect for 0-60 where majority of commuting takes place. They're dead silent. They have very low maintenance. They're cheaper to operate. No getting gas on your hands/car during fill-ups. No trips to the gas station anymore, just remember to plug it in every time you pull back into the driveway. If you can remember to plug your phone in at night you can remember to plug your car in. No emissions sitting in traffic with the windows open in the summer. We purchased an EV for my wife 3 years ago as an experiment. Just to see if she would like it, and if it would save us money. We were fully commited to losing money on it and sell it after a year if it didn't work out. Well 3 years of driving it and she told me she would NEVER drive another ICE car. It's just that much better. And we're paying 1/4 the price per mile vs her last car just to drive down the road. EV's are just better in almost every way for the majority of people who are driving their cars as appliances. Stop commenting on them only from the view of car enthusiasts. Because that's not who they're designed for.
You nailed it, a properly designed BEV supposed to be Driver's Car. The inherent packaging such as central battery location, Rear Wheel Drive biased in most cases, lack of weight in the nose and lots of space for bulky complex suspensions geometry. Produces cars that are actually fun in the corners not just in a straight line. "EV’s are for people who think of driving as a chore" bad assumption realy annoys me, these are cars you have fun with along the to destination. If you don't need to drive more than 150 miles that day, you can hoon it and not care about the range. You'll have a full charge tomorrow waiting for you to have fun again. The only area EVs cant compete is Engine Sound which not great on most ICE cars. Oh also the new ones also just look awesome on the outside.
Many of us are NOT in that majority. Until charging for a 300 mile range can be done in 10 minutes or less- at any location in the most rural areas, I will not have an EV. If I lived in a major metropolitan area, an EV might make sense. The visceral experience of a fine German or Italian ICE vehicle is not eclipsed by quick acceleration.
@@joelspaulding5964 Your not getting it. That's the point I was trying to make. You and I aren't in the majority. Therefore automakers are going to continue NOT making cars for us. "The visceral experience of a fine German or Italian ICE vehicle" doesn't matter or factor into 99.9% of vehicle purchases, for the majority of people - non enthusiasts. So far, the only people I've encountered that think charging is an issue are those who haven't lived with an EV. Like me. I thought charging would be an issue. But after 3 years and 30,000 miles I realize it's just not. Do we need to solve charging availability. Yes. Do we need to solve charging reliability. Yes. But if I gave a free EV to the average person for a year to use. I would bet money on it 90% of people wouldn't go back. I know we won't. And before you come back at me with "my situation is different!". GOOD! Continue to buy what works for your use case. And if you need an ICE vehicle to take frequent long trips, buy that. And if you need to tow things frequently, good. Buy a diesel truck. But survey after survey shows that a majority of people aren't taking these mythical every other weekend 500+ mile road trips.

Not sure I’d be happy with it as a replacement tho.
u have good points but you should get a level 2 charger installed. which will take your charge from 36 hours to 7 from empty.
Got a (not as good deal as Ed) similar lease for RS etron GT. It's a great ride. Had dealer apply a TSB software update so that I don't keep getting that beeping warning every time I restart the car.
What are the numbers on the lease?
Good thing you leased it. Costs about 80k in a good day now
So how much is the lease payment?
“It’s like a prison spork…” 😂
I was going to say, almost all the gripes are in every new car, not just EV's. However, they are fun.
I always try and reference we are experiencing the new electric world the same way cars came in the 20th century. Where were cars and how were they in our society in 1924. We are kinda there.
😂 got to unplug my daughter’s electric car and plug in my wife’s electric car 😂😂
Best part of the segment.
And yet 90%+ of people drive less than 50 miles per day... Just a waste of money.
Ed, there's an emergency plug that's been released which is used by first responders to kill battery in the event of an explosion or a fire. Sanďy Munro talks about it on his channel.
Great video, Mr Bolian!
But will it do Mona backwoods jumping?
Less risk of radiator damage!
Save a shortcut for the speed limit warning. I’m not sure if there’s another trick like in BMWs where you hold the SET button on the steering to disable the warning
Watching Ed drive an EV is like watching me use a Crosley turntable.
Leasing it is not a bad idea. The depreciation on BEVs can be terrible
I just subscribed I follow taverish and Tyler but now I know you have this not just vinwiki new content thank you so much bud, we talked before I build honda ruckus's
what's the insurance cost ...?
How much was the payment?
He refuses to say, but he mentions the price of brakes and tires for their Land Rover. I'd guess around 6-8k?
It was about $3k plus the prepaid maintenance and taxes which were a little steep in GA. $6k all in for the year. $12k for 2 of them.
@@EdBolian That’s brilliant. For 6k I’d do that deal too
@@TheCompyshopHell yeah. If I had a charger where I lived id do that in a heart beat
Ed to turn off lane keep, hold the button on the turn signal stalk and you’ll see the lane dashes disappear
Ed why do the one pay lease? If the Audi is totaled tomorrow, aren’t you out all that money? Versus making your payments over the course of the lease? Heck, you could even keep the money in the bank and invest it elsewhere.
That was part of the recipe to make it so cheap. You get an interest rate concession. I wouldn't suggest it on a longer term lease.
I love your non-commital charging station
The lender is going to take an enormous bath at the end of that lease as EV depreciation is simply off the charts. Sounds like a great deal but if I had to go through the procedure to turn off the chime for exceeding the speed limit every time I drove the car I am not sure how I would feel about it. What on earth is VAG thinking with that?
Leasing is the way to go cause when it starts falling apart in 5 years, you can just turn it in for a new one. That's all new cars are good for. A 5 year lease.
Pay cash and live within your means. Leasing is just p/155ing your money up against the wall with conditions attached.
I didn't know you could do a One year lease
In my audi the lane assist is on the end of the turn signal stalk
What was the deal?
harrys' garage did a good video about this issue.
they've gone to silly, they're too big, to fast, and they're far to expensive, but also to energy ineffecient.
that combined with unpredictible battery wear that varies from the way it's charged. makes them really hard to sell on the used market once the lease period on such things is over.
I drove a 2015 Audi A3 with a beep when speeding option/setting, not really a new EV thing.
The ending was like a cartoon the way he popped his lid and the hawaiian shirt seemed so ironic all of a sudden.
Ed is my spirit animal.
Thank you for making content Ed. It is a treat to listen to your Ed-isms 🤭. The spicy Asian reference… lol.
Cutting wires doesn't stop the fire. Thermal runaway is the issue with the fires.
knocks kale salad off table goes back to eating steak. Canadian prices are definitely on a different planet as usual.
Kale isn’t supposed to be eaten. It’s sandpaper inside of the intestines. Kale is what you use as ground covering in off season when your seasonal plants leave you garden beds bare and you don’t want to look at dirt.
Dealers are STILL trying to get a lot more $s for these than I think they are worth even though I REALLY wanted one. Sticking with my '16 S7 for now but would like to know just how good a deal they offered as my wife's ES300h is now 10 years old and she has just over 100K miles on it so....may be following your lead on her behalf
Prison spork. Could not have put it better myself. Ed delivers the truth once again.
What about 512 Miles of advertised range on one of the Lucid Grand Touring cars.
Are they still offering that deal ?
No, I think it resulted in all the US inventory being sold.
Dear Mr. So Called Bolian, Could we get back to your knowledge of *prison sporks?*
Not a joke.
And the strict criteria the manufacturer has for damage on the underfloor.
I’m looking at one of these right now on the same lease deal
Had one..kept it 6 months and got rid of it before the values tanked. Range sucks and too heavy to have fun with. Went back to a 911 and now all is good.
Even though I’ve raced solar powered cars in college I will never bring myself to buy a battery powered EV. Maybe a hydrogen fuel cell one day but who knows, like you I love internal combustion engines too much
My fun car will never be an EV, but as a daily car I’ll buy whatever minimizes my expenses and meets my needs. EVs do not today as it’s not uncommon for me drive 700 miles a day.
Accomplishes the task, like a Prison Spork! Love it Ed.
.
