    Review: www.electrifyi...
    The Audi A6 is a well-known and popular big executive car, and this new, all-electric Audi A6 e-tron has got the driving range, tech and image to really sway some more traditional buyers. It might even be the better buy over its nemesis, the BMW i5.
    Welcome to the all-new Audi A6 e-tron. This big executive has a lot in common with the Audi Q6 e-tron that we really enjoyed earlier this year, including the same new PPE platform (also used in the Porsche Macan). In fact, we reckon that the Q6 e-tron SUV and Porsche Macan SUVs will be key rivals to the A6. I know that the A6 is a traditional estate or saloon-ish shaped five-door hatchback - called the Audi A6 Sportback - but if you’ve got £70,000-ish to spend on a spacious, long-range electric car for yourself and the family, the Q6 and Macan are as sure to crop up as the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE that are the A6’s direct non-SUV rivals.
    It's not shy of some seriously good competition, then, but the A6 e-tron has a lot going for it. Not least, its range! The A6 gets two battery options; a 75.8- (usable capacity) or 94.9kWh pack. In the estate-bodied A6 e-tron Avant that we’re focussing on here, those are good for an official WLTP range of up to 361- or 437 miles, which makes this one of the longest range cars in the class.
    As I’ve mentioned, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron has a great claimed range of up to 437 miles, or 367 for the smaller battery, and if you go for the swoopy Sportback then that creeps up by another 20- to 30 miles or so.
    Both the 75.8kWh usable (83kWh total capacity) battery that you can only have in the entry-level A6 e-tron, and the 94.9kWh (100kWh total capacity) pack that powers every other A6 and the sporty Audi S6 e-tron, are lithium-ion NMC batteries that promise good longevity and performance.
    You also get a heat pump as standard, which will help with efficiency and range in the winter. What is disappointing is that there’s no word on Audi offering vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging, or vehicle-to-grid (V2G). For a brand new, hi-tech EV on a brand new platform, that feels like a huge missed opportunity given that Hyundai, Kia, MG and Peugeot all offer V2L on cars that cost less than half what you’ll pay for the A6. Sort it out, Audi!
    Join Tom as he takes to the road in the new Audi A6 e-tron for the first time. Has Audi built a winner here? Would you choose it over a BMW i5 or Mercedes EQE? Let us know in the comments below.

    If you told me that this is the new ICE Audi A6, I would believe it. In other words, did the (German) car makers finally understand that they shouldn't make electric cars deliberately ugly and distinct? A car is still a car no matter what engine it has.

    • @gileshalliwell3591
      @gileshalliwell3591 7 місяців тому +6

      But shouldn’t we try to move design forward at the same time? This is just another ho hum Audi and I’ve had six each got progressively duller until I stopped buying them!

      @@gileshalliwell3591 Whether you like the design of a specific car or not is up to you. And whether you buy a car you don't like is also up to you.
      My point is that many car makers designed new uglier EV cars while having in comparison more beautiful ICE cars.
      And now there seems to be a (positive) development that they stop to make this difference. I assume because they learn the hard way that they won't sell their ICE cars anymore and ALSO not their (deliberately) ugly EV models.
      Regarding specifically Audi: their cars have been looking like this since my childhood. Only "e-trons" suddenly had a very "complicated" design. Why?
      So, my point is: This new Audi A6 EV looks as boring and typically Audi as Audis always looked. It does not try to sell me "I'm an EV and therefore I'm drastically ugly because we don't have the new techology under control yet".
      It is only a new Audi, not more. And this is what I like, regardless whether I like the general Audi design or not.

    Nice to see a car again and not a SUV/CUV. That range is amazing as well, agree I'm sure there will be a Diesel owner making some untrue comment about driving from London to Athens without ever stopping beyond the Channel crossing. The brake cleaning is very cool something I suspect other manufacturers haven't thought of. Not sure what kind of roads you've been on but the sound level is very quiet from what I can hear. Thanks Tom.

      Hear, hear! I think this looks great too. The EQE - the design is marmite as well. Price is the big thing especially with expected depreciation. They need to incentivise sales by at least reducing interest on PCP and/or subsidising lease offers. Once battery tech improves and infrastructure, I think demand will always be strong enough from then on.

    For the records because so many people got it wrong like in this video. Your max recuperation dose not depend on the B or D mode when you driving a VAG vehicle. The only difference is how you control it. In the B mode your recuperation starts emidiate when you go of the gas. In the D mode you have to hit the breake for that. In both mode you can see in you drive screen a bar diagram which goes from full blue for gas to full green for full recuperation. You physical brakes hit only when your blue bar is fully used. The max recuperation of the car is the same.

    • @iainhunneybell
      @iainhunneybell 6 місяців тому +1

      So in other words, in D, foot off the pedal and free wheel, in B mode, effectively single pedal driving and take you foot off the pedal and you go in regen-based braking?

    • @hannes5610
      @hannes5610 6 місяців тому

      @@iainhunneybell basically yes but to use the full regen potential you need to hit the brakes.
      If you only take your foot of the gas in B mode you still have some recuperation capacity left. How much you can see in your drive display. If you put your foot on the brakes now, the car starts to increase the recuperation. Only if max recuperation ist reacht (green bar is filled) the car uses its physical brakes.
      Lots of People think B is mor efficient because they assume they only get recup in B. But that ist not the case. More likely the opposite. In most cases D is more efficient because you have better control when to use free wheel and when to use how much recuperation.
      An other mistake many car influencers do is to take a look in the datasheet and compare the value for max recuperation with the deceleration in B. Later one they blame the company for wrong value’s because an other car has a lower max recuperation value on paper but decelerate better in one Paddel driving.

    Audi appear to be pushing forward with improvements but as Tom says the devil is in the details, 21" rims, air suspension etc will make a difference.
    That being said, using WLTP figures is always a bit of a joke and unrealistic most times. Having figures for summer, winter, urban and motorway would be great if they were based on real world. it will never happen as it is probably impossible to do this on a consistent basis that can be repeated. When you use the car everyday, you get used to the all the ways of using it, a quick stab changes the speed limiter/cruise control by 1mph increments, a slightly longer pulse gets you 5mph increments and a swipe 10mph. It's brilliant. I think there is a trade off between designing a car that journalists will like because they can pick it up quickly and a system designed for a user who will get to know the system and become very adept at making the system very fast to use. You guys think you're experts and you give great design a bad name.

      @@sgsorin There’s so many things wrong with it… where to start… The seats are horrible, the driving position is horrible, the infotainment system shows all sorts of unnecessary shit and makes the things you actually want to see and interact with as small as possible. The AC controls clicks sound like a blood lancet punch. The elbow rest on the doors doesn’t reach far back enough so your elbow digs into the hard plastic edge behind it. The steering wheel adjustment is too limited. It’s far less powerful than significantly cheaper competitors. It looks ugly. I can keep going with this but the main point is that it’s generally just really poorly designed and the price they’re asking for it is an absolute scam. Furthermore, the options you can get on it don’t feel like options but rather things the car should just come with since the base trim options are so low quality that they should never be put into a car this expensive.

    2 inch difference in wheel size takes much more than just 3% off of the range. My M3P on 20” as opposed to a normal M3 on 18” has 25% higher consumption (city usage). A big part of it is the wheel size.

      only problem they are doing equal to Korean tech with Porsche pricing. For an acutual winter country the front light design alone makes them useless and a dealbreaker for me. All the snow will be gathered on the high beam. Same major design flaw is on the new Porsche Macan and also the Q6 e-tron.
      Watch the video in its fullest and imagine the car wet or snowy. You basicaly have a nightmare of usability. Can't wait for a proper review in a northern country in the winter with snow. They laughs are gonna be long and loud.

    The DS N°8 may have longer range and a bigger boot, but it won’t charge nearly as fast (400V 160kW). So for really long drives, the A6 will probably get you at your holiday destination sooner. That said, if I could drive the DS°8 as a company car, I wouldn’t say no to it. I can’t drive Audis as a company car and even though I generally dislike them because of the type of driver they often attract, I wouldn’t say no to this A6 either.

    The mirrors reduce aerodynamic drag by up to 5%. At the speeds where that matters we are talking an overall drag reduction of 3-4%. 4% of say, real world 350 miles is 11 miles, not 3!

    • @Electrifyingcom
      @Electrifyingcom  7 місяців тому +6

      @@Electrifyingcom But that's at the low WLTP speeds. At highway speeds, and especially at Autobahn speeds, the difference is higher. This has been discussed at length for the i4 M50 that comes with a spoiler by default, but it can optionally be left out. Difference at higher speed is much more than the 7 km listed in BMW's configurator. I expect the same to be true for these mirrors.

    I was going to get the A6, but it got delayed too much, so I ended up with a BMW i5.
    I don’t like the lies about the range. For me range is only important on the motorways. And realistically you go from 80% till 10%. So on my BMW that is 300km in summer and 250km in the winter. So for the A6 I would keep a max of 400km in mind for summer driving and 330km in winter. Keep this in mind and you won’t be disappointed. Look at the 700km WLPT range and you’ll be really disappointed on your first ski trip or long drive.
    If I were to order now I would get an A6 avant, the only question would be performance or Quattro (not S6).
