Wangan Midnight is darker, crueler and more focused on speed, tuning and the people - their tragedies and addictions, whilst Initial D is all about drifting and driving technique (and it has a happier tune). I was shocked how detailed Initial D was when it came to driving skills and influence of the environment and car setup. And I was even more flabbergasted about the unexpected in-depth knowledge that was showcased in Wangan Midnight (I was an engine dyno operator for a big manufacturer not so long ago) - details about boost, spark, power, torque, RPMs and general engine basics are almost too good for an anime. But what really blew me away was the connection to the real life ... Yeah, Devil Z and Blackbird were real, Keiichi Tsuchiya was blueprint and advisor for the Initial D series, but that's not what I mean ... In my opinion the feelings and the shown role models are the best thing about these two animes AND that nothing about them has changed - everyday normal people can still become like Akio or Takumi! Sure, you have to sacrifice pretty much for that lifestyle (How many part time jobs and what little future had Akio left in the end? How many years had Takumi honed is skills and how 'cruel' was the training by his father? How much luck does he had by meeting Ryosuke and winning him as sponsor?), but you still can live your dream as car freak. But be aware: There's no turning back once you've fully entred this world and you'll see most 'influencers' as nothing more than clowns ;-)
Rikako kinda underrated in this anime. Her great tuning and modification skills really top notch. The evo 5 and final episode she do up the akio L28 engine.👍
11:04 A/F is not air filter system. He is saying in Japanese A/F gauge. It means Air Fuel ratio. If fuel is lean, engine may have knocking problem. And also you can feel the car is slowing down when you rev high it may mean your engine ignition system is miss fire or pre-ignition(knocking). Or another problem like fuel pressure is not enough.
Also a cause of the car losing top end is the engine simply veing tuned more for midrange grunt or the turbo not being able to flow enough air and causing a restriction.
@@justsomegarage The restriction in air flow might be the fault of the throttle gap, more than the turbo. But, if the turbo is too small, then it may have the restriction problem at redline revs.
The 1st gen GTO broke the top speed record at the time from both HKS and Hennessey (yes THAT Hennessey that did Venom and Exorcist Camaro) separately, though idk much about what the 2nd gen has been achieved other than stock GTO MR beat R32 GTR in a 1-mile drag race (sourced from best motoring).
I love this series more than Initial D. The characters are more mature, determine and has good sportmanship. They not only very high skillfull at driving, but also know all technical aspects of at least the car they're driving. While Initial D only focus solely the protagonist Takumi, in this one every side characters has their own story to a personal extend. Not to mentioned this anime was actually based on realworld Mid Night racing club and two of their members actually inspired the Devil Z and the Blackbird. Too bad the anime only has one season with only 26 episodes.
Wangan Midnight is all about passion, as opposed to Initial D which is more about pride. Like sure you still see tuners and drivers be prideful and seek to beat the best of the best, as you can see with BlackBird, but you always see that at the end of their speed contests, they're all friends and like to see each other succeed in their hobby. Which is why Akio ended up helping with Kei's Supra despite building something that can beat the Z, he wants to learn more about tuning and not just being the fastest in Wangan. Initial D on the other hand is more about improving your skills and going head to head with the best of the best touge drivers, and the lesson there is that sometimes skill can only get you so far, as with Bunta's lesson to Takumi with the Impreza. At the end of the day, pride and passion are two sides of the same coin. It's just about which is your priority.
For the old anime, the CGI is superb. Compared to nowadays crappy anime. Well, if it's today, 4G63 is easy even to make 1200hp. Just slap Bullet Billet Block in it.
The more seasons Initial D made, the less interesting they were anyway. After Season 3 they got pretty boring because there was a heck of a lot of talking and analyzing the little things and the races lost their excitement factor.
And at the same time I respect Eiji for keeping his 3 month promise. According to Maki he had other girlfriends in Osaka so I'm sure Rikako wasn't a big deal to Eiji anyway haha.
In the original manga, after three months Eiji went back to Osaka and married Ms. Eriko (their step-mother). Not sure if that's too much for Western audience and got ripped.
@@AnthroGearhead True. I worked part time for a friend who tunes old JDMs. The Evo 4 is frustrating to work on if you're increasing power. The stock engine blows almost too easily. It's like a sports car meant to be driven like a bus.

No wtf, thats different. Keisukes FD had a mazdaspeed kit in stage 4 and later on he got the RE Amemiya kit. This is RGOs FD, idk what the body kit is irl but it looks menacing
I really have no idea how tuning works. They increased the displacement to 2.2 liters, changes to the final gear, yet it went from 400 to just 450. Most of the Evo V and VIs I see that are stroked to 2.2 or 2.3 liters would've hit 500-600hp and raped supercars at short distances(Evos suck at top end because of aero). They really expected to beat a 600hp L28 Twin Turbo and a 700hp Porsche Turbo with a measley 450hp 2.3? Rikako's dad even said "More power, more torque" but all they did was add 50hp and hit 300kph with some minor changes 🤦 I don't get it at all.
50hp but more torque in all rpms. You can add more HP to it just by adding some boost (bigger turbo), yet it won't feel so pleasant as balanced, fine-tuned car. Hope, I conveyed it correctly, English isn't my native)

地元や家族が好きだけどどこか東京にコンプレックスを持ってて自分の実力を試してみたり一度は夢を追ってみたいと思って上京する人間の心理描写を細かく描いてる。家族の生活を守るためにと言い訳して夢に挑戦してなかった自分を認める所とか解像度が高すぎる。東京生まれには分からない感覚が散りばめられてる。
湾岸は人の生き方が描かれているのが良い。共通しているのは車が好きという事だ。そして走り続けるも降りるも自由という真の車好きの為の作品。
