    I'm not usually a fan of commentary, but this was actually suited very well to the video.
    great work on getting racing by the way, this car looks like it was a blast to drive.

    I was driving that Aggressive Civic! From my point of view I was extremely patient through 8, 9 and 10 and simply drove past you two on the front straight...hardly aggressive!!
    :)

      Richard Hylands I agree

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  9 років тому +14

      Richard Hylands Haha, it was only aggressive in the sense that we went three wide into Turn 1. It was a totally fair move and you were well past before turn-in, my commentary was really just me making excuses for trading a bit of paint with the Contour.

    that spec v in the opening scene though! modify one of those hunks! there are literally no videos on youtube involving them whatsoever. this car certainly embodies some of my own ideals when it comes to cars/racing. simple, clean, with effective mods. function>form. you guys are getting me really pumped up to finish my car. seriously. excellent video. I was at a chumpcar race in 2015 but I don't remember seeing your car so I guess there was more than one race. They don't look like $500 cars to me.

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  9 років тому +1

      +Keith Brettell Neither do they to us. Our car legitimately was a $500 beater but there were so many that didn't look the part at all.

    My sr made that same exact sound when the rod went. Haven't taken apart yet to find out why it went, but I'm suspecting it just got tired of pushing almost three times the stock power, for so long.

    Do you guys plan on any more chump races? Any in 2016? DP, I think we talked briefly that weekend, but I didn't know who you guys were at the time. Started following Speed Academy on youtube now, love the vids, keep it up. If you are at any of the 2016 races, come by and say hi at the Wheelhouse Racing pit.

      +jandmwheeler cool, we'll definitely come say hi. Thinking about making it to one of the Calabogie ChumpCar races this year. We were only at the Mosport race in April last year. After that we got busy with FR-S and S2000 stuff for the summer and then blowing up the S14 in the fall, haha.

  • @atsernov

    A wide bodied 2nd gen MR2 with a massive spoiler and watching that haul uphill, turbo... as a 500 dollar chump car? Seems legit.

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  8 років тому

      +atsernov that car would have started life as a non-turbo MR2, but ya still seems like a stretch as a legit $500 car. The way ChumpCar does it, if you can buy that car anywhere in the States (where the rules are set) then it's permissible by the rules. Then you have a point system for the mods and engine swaps that determine what class you run in. More mods, more power, and you run in a higher/faster class. But the truth is no competitive ChumpCar is a $500 car. It may have started out as a one, but once you add all the safety gear and mods it's worth $5k minimum

    • @atsernov
      @atsernov 8 років тому

      Speed Academy Safety gear and often brakes and tires are usually not counted in events like this. But the base car, good luck finding a second gen MR2 for 500. Well, OK, maybe a rust bucket that needs an engine for 500US. XD

    Not the best car when it comes to fast cornering speed but awesome to see a Swift racing on the track. A broken rod???? :-S A GTi engine is unbreakable so how this happend? Didnt you change the oil before the race and for the next day? 2bad the 1,3 doesnt have that torque to get it uphill fast but the high rpm range can make that tiny difference to shift out an opponent. :-D
