“Sounds amazing” isn’t just click bait in the title......it really does sound amazing!!!
the under your breath “wtf” when pulling damper bolt lol
Oh yeah man, my cam kit comes in this Friday for My v ls6 and ima try installing it on my own with 0 experience 😆 wish me luck 😄
Did you ever do it? How it go
A few things. One - most LS engines I work on need to have the starter removed and the flywheel holding tool inserted. Otherwise, how does one keep the engine from turning?
Two - The balancer came off pretty easily. That's not really normal. Because it is an interference fit, if it isn't fitted properly it will loosen at some point, then you will need a crank. If you use the tool that includes a fixture where you can drill the crank and balancer for pins to be inserted laterally then the issue becomes moot.
3 - What about degreeing the cam? I have had cams be off as much as 12 degrees, installed straight up, and I have had more cars brought into my shop that did not run well because one of the pieces in the cam drive had a factory defect. Even a quick cam timing check would be preferable to no timing check.
I hope you consider this helpful, I am not into giving people a hard time, but I have a performance shop, am retired from GM service engineering and training, and have written books about all this stuff. But good information on your end, thanks for taking the time to help all of us. Jef Lynch
Is the process pretty much the same for an ls6? What kind of gains did you see in power after the install and tune?
Yeah it’s extremely similar between the two. Probably looking at 420whp now after all the mods and tune. feels like a completely different car now.
I know it’s not difficult to do this. It’s just a lot of parts that need to be removed, and drained, to get to the place where the cam is, but this guy has just disassembled over half (correct me if its a whole lot more of an percentage. I am guessing, almost 60% of his engine.) of his engine in his suburban garage. Like it was changing his oil. Most of the other videos I have seen are of shops, or people who have a separate garage that is like they have built several cars in it , not so much like one painted and finished off like this.
There is a saying, an electrician can be a plumber, but a plumber is not going to be an electrician. Or, something close to that. Great video, and beautiful car. You got a new sub. What is your thought on repeating this on a LS4?
Thanks for this, very informative
Let me know what you want to see next on the channel!
MG Motorsports let’s see some races against mustangs??
Let’s see more racing
I agree more racing
Big changes coming! Stay tuned!
Great job man... clean install
Thank you for the support!
Thank you for this, well done
I have an LS swapped gbody Monte Carlo and the harmonic balancer flew off when I hit limiter and passed me while throwing sparks on the road 😂 my crank bolt was loose too I guess
Is the oil Pan exposed after timing cover removed .. worried about drooping stuff in my oil
Yes it is definitely accessible once the timing cover is off, many people change their oil pickup tube o rings while “in there”
Sounds great man
GREAT JOB Like the way you did 2 set,s of spring,s at one time by turning motor 90 degrees smart Thanx,s
Awesome!
Hey bro I’m looking to get this car for my 07 Cts v, was just wondering size pushrods and springs did you get with the kit? They give a few different options with the kit on the website,
Cam*
I went with the 7.4 pushrods and the 0.660” lift platinum springs with steel retainers.
Great Video! where are you going to get it tuned?
I just did a BTR stage 2 in my 07 v..... along with ported heads.... will also need a tune.... I'm from Ontario as well
I am doing the tuning myself. Where abouts in Ontario?
@@MGMotorsports Brantford...
I'm waiting for a fast 102 intake...
I also did ls7 lifters, trunion upgrade, headers, monster clutch, ati balancer.
Very nice, I’m in Windsor. I’m using HP tuners to tune it myself, I bet you could do it too. I could send you my tune as a starting point once I’m done.
@@MGMotorsports after watching your video I see why they charge out the ass
Haha yeah it’s a bit labor intensive. Thanks for watching.
Where you get the wood
Wow that sounds 👍. What's the exhaust setup? I have an 05 v ls6 and been thinking about buying a BTR cam
Thanks man! Check my other videos I go through everything in the exhaust set up. Essentially it’s long tubes, to stock resonator and muffler delete
@@MGMotorsports Thanks for the reply. Fixing to check out those videos
@@MGMotorsports how much would you charge me for your street tune set up? I do not wanna pay $500+
Pm me on Facebook if you can and we can discuss.
damn I wish you were my best friend and neighbor, then you can work on my V...lol
sounds nice
I have everything off but my cam Does not want to come out, help !!!!
You got bolts in the nose of the cam to help you pull? It shouldn’t be that difficult
@@MGMotorsports I forgot to take off the lifters got it 🤣 thanks man !
Haha re watch my videos! Good luck man
Did you have a video when y out installed the ati damper ?
Just about 18:45 onward in the video.
Whats that specific damper do compared to the oem one?
Oem damper is known to fail often, I don’t think it does anything better or worse, but lasts forever because it’s a fluid damper, not elastomeric
Why didn’t you replace your lifters?
I didn’t want to remove the heads to get them out
Only problem I had was when you called the valve cover a cam cover.. Did you come from owning fords? lol
Hahaha yeah I work at Ford in Michigan and all our engines are overhead cam now, just a habit!
I thought cts v was a lt4
That’s the new ones, the V1’s are LS2’s & LS6’s
You might want to get your lifters done. Ls2 lifters are shit.
