Episode 18: Thoroughfare Creek, SC to Holden Beach, NC

After a peaceful night at anchor on Thoroughfare Creek, South Carolina we embarked on a 60-mile trip to Holden Beach, North Carolina, where we docked at the Holden Beach Transient Dock.
The waterway was crowded with hundreds of mostly small boats, but as we transited the stretch known as the "Rock Piles" we were grateful that we encountered very little traffic. The Rock Piles are a little narrow, but the biggest hazard is the rocks, some of which are hidden below the surface of the water. Hitting a rocky bottom is an entirely different thing than bottoming on sand or mud.
The Holden Beach Transient Dock is a wonderful place to stay a night or two, as it provides convenient access to the town, it's beaches, and some nice restaurants. Sailor really appreciated the park that's immediately adjacent to the dock. The dock accommodates only two boats of our size or perhaps three shorter ones, but we were blessed to get to share the dock with our friends David and Molly who cruise aboard TEVA. We also got to enjoy a great meal with David and Molly at the nearby Dock House where Guy finally got to try a Mac & Cheese and Bacon cheeseburger, which was delicious, by the way.
