It really is interesting how the public opinions of these things sort of seems to change over time. If you ask me its more or so that the people with negative opinions usually only stick their head out around the time the game comes out.
It’s either that they only stick their heads out only at the beginning because they either lose interest in hating on it pretty early, that they just lose interest in it altogether and they get separated from the discourse altogether, or that they just grow to accept the games the way they are and end up liking it.
Nah I've seen plenty of people who hate on a thing specifically because they think it might make people mad. And it usually doesn't even work

@@phillemon7664 Typically, people tend to like things a lot longer than they hate them. Passion is hard to maintain, either for or against something, but once it fades when you hate it you end up indifferent or at best sometimes go "oh yeah remember how shit that was?", and when you like it you often remember "hey remember how COOL that was" and sometimes the passion is temporarily renewed.
And someone who truly hates something prefers to forget it, while someone wh loves it will wax nostalgic.
Unless it's MGSV, I'm still fucking pissed and I always will be.
man, i remember describing persona 4 to a friend, i said "its basically persona 3, but with better mechanics and a less serious more fun story, which i feel makes it a bit weaker" and he just looked at me blankly, i then told him "its pokemon scooby doo"

Boy you NEEDED Gamefaqs to play a lot of SMT games, you think it's easy to go through If....'s World of Sloth, Nocturne's Ikebukuro Tunnel and parts of the Amala Labyrinth, and Strange Journeys Sector E without a map? Heeeeellllllllll no, lol. Also optimization your time properly in Persona and Devil Survivor games since you'd easily miss something and end of regretting it later.
It helped with P3's and Strange Journey's sidequests

There is a GameFAQs reviewer that gave TWEWY a 2/10 and called the game a trainwreck. This same reviewer gave FFXV a 9/10 and said the combat is "incredibly deep".
I remember this one reviewer that put up a poll of what people think is the best fighting game and there was that one person who went on a tangent about how Smash was winning.
As someone who is actually a fan of FFXV, that guy is just wrong. The combat is the worst part of that game.

@@angellord2252 I will say that the Royal Edition’s Armiger Unleashed makes combat quite fun. It’s a glimpse of what the combat could have, and should have been, had the game been given the love it deserved

I actually hate P3. Though, I can't say it's a bad game. There are just flaws that ruin the game for me. There's nothing wrong with liking P3 though, it's just extremely overrated.
@FuckOuttaHere I played it during Hurricane Isaiah here in the Bahamas, and my god I beat it in 2 days. The pacing was non existent. In p4 and p5 I WANTED to save people. You had a goal you know? It felt like the game wasn't trying to get me invested in this. It was like "do stuff or not I guess". I couldn't care less about most characters. He'll I didn't like aigis till January. I played it on my PSP instead of my PS2 (yknow, power was out.) I was sorely disappointed with gameplay and balance. I played P4G during Hurricane Dorian in 2019, and it got me through that fucking apocalypse and deaths. Spent hours playing P4G. P3 just makes me feel dead, wasn't fun at all, and that BALANCING... Early game is absolute shit... Three party members against the arcana bosses sucked. No, arcana bosses suck. SMT3 is WAY better. Oh and DeSu
@@TailsGuy72 I feel you. Persona 3 has almost mythical status in Fandom as if it is some holy grail of writing and character development... But I just don't see it? Pacing is atrocious yes, but for me problems go deeper with that. The plot of Persona 3 almost non existant. The dialogue is very wonky, and presentation is full of unnatural exposition. If we are talking about characters. Yes - there are highlights that everyone talks about. But how about rest of the characters and rest of the game? Yes this game persona 3 has some really good highs, I won't argue that. Yes, the atmosphere is amazing, but that's just sparkles in the eyes. The game is full of holes and its very inconsistent.
Oh, this is going to be quite the ride.

The first guy's criticisms were actually somewhat reasonable, until he blew them out of proportion and gave 1/10 scores for almost everything because they weren't perfect. Except for talking shit about the Persona 4 soundtrack. I legitimately have never played a Megaten game that didn't have at least an 8/10 soundtrack.
The p1 review was based. Fuck that game hahahahaha
The softly racist vignette in the first review upsets me as someone who does a lot of code switching between English and Spanish since I'm from an immigrant family.
Yeah that part really came off as incredibly insensitive, it’s frustrating how western centric a lot of people operate (I.e. every game must take place in a western setting or else it’s shit!)

To be fair, I can understand feeling like the ending of P4G was a little abrupt, with the true mastermind being the gas station attendant you had a single interaction with at the start of the game.
You think that guy actually got the True Ending? You think that smoothbrain coulda figured out how to get it?

At least the teachers didn't lecture you on most of the major arcana like in P4.

“But for the average RPG player here” got me, it’s specifically a JRPG, lmao. Of course it has Japanese settings, soundtrack and other elements my dude, that’s where it’s from, cmon.
In short: the newest and most popular game will always be the worst somehow. And everything surrounding it will feel extra horrible to the people who don't like the game. We witnessed this phenomenon with 4 and when we thought that was bad, it got even worse with 5. I fear for the state of the community once persona 6 comes out, no matter how good the game turns out.

The only voices changed in Golden were Teddie and Chie, but yeah Atlus doubled down on the “anime” crap with the spin-offs and rereleases for their games
@@SenhorKoringa SMT is anime too whether you like or not. Hell even P1 and P2 are anime. P3, 4, 5 are just more “modern anime” styled than the other games. Anyone denying the “anime” quality of all of Megaten are just copers.

But when Inaba is such a dull shithole that a 7 year old girl’s favorite activity is visiting the department store, and rereleases send you on a ski trip and off to the beach, it feels a bit disconnected for the sake of more cliche SoL anime moments.

I remember all the negative reviews Persona 4 got upon its release. Do I dismiss the possibility for people to prefer 3 over 4? No, of course not. I see it as quite likely to be honest. But ... to make them out to be night and day in terms of quality is a bit.... silly
Absolutely none of the issues people often have with P4 are things you can ascribe to P3. None! NOT A ONE!!! NOT A SINGLE ONE!

I wonder if persona 5 will be more appreciated down the line like how Persona 4 was once trash compared to 3 but now stands on it's own as an outstanding game. I mean, fan base wise not the mainstream.
It was when it came out, it got a bit of a resurgence once people could finally talk about royal and it definitely will once persona 6 comes exists for a bit. Unfortunately that means that half the community will now trash persona 6 for every overblown reason they can find.

Considering Final Fantasy was still extremely popular around the time. It feels like Persona was too different for them.
Hell I was huge on Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts when I was a kid. But playing Persona 5 last year it was so different from what I grew up with and loved the game.

@@ci7210 Seems like for me it's the opposite, even though I've started on all three of them awfully late (around 18-19 and I'm about to be 20 in a couple months). Finished the KH series up until KH3 and played quite a bit of MegaTen for the past year. Tried playing FF7R and XV and haven't finished either of them, though at least XV is fun enough for me to have some motivation to continue, I'll probably just need to cut down on quests.

I can't believe that Harry Dubois is such a Persona 3 fanboy.
I got no problems with with people criticizing Persona 4. It's one of my favorite games, if not simply THE favorite. But I know it's got problems. Of course it does, I don't think I've ever loved a game that wasn't lacking in some area, I love stuff that goes for it and when you just fuckin' go for it, you're bound to fuck something up.
But boy, if you start with "this game is an abomination", I'm not okay.
And just as I suspected, his review is garbage.
This dude complaining about it being long, having slow plot progression, spending most of it's time on scenes of shopping and dinnertime, and the social links are boring because they're high school students who don't have any real problems. Oh and the honorifics are weird and the music is bad engrish, and it's too japanese... ah, yes, all things you totally CANNOT say about Persona 3! Nope, not at all! You absolutely do not fight 12 bosses over the course of 12 months, only actually learning more about what's going on during the middle and end of the game! It's for sure not mostly fucking around at the mall, school, or tartarus! No siree! And hey, what's character development?
Either this guy didn't actually play P3, or he has a SERIOUS bias for it that has totally blinded him. One of the worst reviews I've ever seen, I can't wait for the rest.
Oh and to that guy who was complaining about how hard SMT3 was: I breezed through most of it, except for Lucifer. Git fukken gud m8.
I think persona 4 is probably my least favorite modern persona game tbh. I love it, but the gameplay isn't nearly as good as p5, and the story didn't resonate with me as much as 3. It does do characters the best though.
The gameplay honestly brings Persona 3 down a lot for me. I loved the story and chatacters but
The horrible Ai and tacticts system, the "tired" and "sick" mechanic, the repetitive climbing of Tartarus, the annoying and long final boss. And most of the social links were boring or barebones.
A remake could easily fix all these problems.
Me when I first got into the SMT/Persona series: Persona 3 is the best game in the series hands down!
Me after having a lot more experience in the series: P3 is cool and all, but I feel P2 is a lot less headaches to worry about :/

I had a rough time with strange journey. I'm not sure if it was just not in the right headspace (I was mid Hs p4 baby) or if I actually didn't enjoy it. I have tried to go back but my initial play through has effected my enjoyment

I once saw a guy refund a game because he found the soundtrack "unbearable" and then post a discussion about it on the steam forums. And then when people tried debating with him, he claimed to be a music producer and that the sound track was awful because he said so.

the one valid thing I heard in the negative ones was about nocturnes dungeons/puzzles. They are awful, using time wasting old hat crap (even for the time) like invisible wall mazes or guess the right platform, and I've always found it bizarre it's rarely brought up in criticism of the game. Or worse yet people complain about the lack of it in iv, iva, v, etc
That P3 review was my favourite easily, it describes why I fell in love with the game so much (minus the graphic mid 2000s poem)

Been playing Persona 3 and Persona 4 on my PS3 and gamfaq is a godsend
is it bad that i somewhat agree with the first one?? im not into this slice of life thing, so the RL events are always boring as hell to me. especially cause they take SO long - looking at you P5 & P5 strikers
The flaw in the first review was that the person judged P4 as if their dislike for slice of life was objective, and a game that contains it is by default a bad game. It is totally okay not to like this style of game, and I'm sure many diehard fans (including me) agree that the dialogue can drag on a while.
Thats just how Persona is, it's definitely not a game for everyone.
I actually first played Persona 4 a long time ago but I dropped it because it started off so slow.
Now I'm a fan and played all the games.
