Awesome presentation. I actually was wondering if I could use this for dolphin kicks, I think your video is the only one that I've seen showing that. Thanks. Great tips
It’s possible just may be more likely to go under the water, and you ll have to clear it
I drink a lot of water with this shit 😂😂😂 useful and very helpful
Glad this helps. Takes some practice
Great swim tool for me during my road cycling off season. I have used the FINIS swim snorkel for several years now to help increase my VO2Max and endurance. Number one tool in my gym bag.
Wow. Number one tool. That’s great to hear. Nice work

when I breath in with my mouth, I also breath in with my nose a little bit, which messes me up, frustrating
Try exhaling out your nose instead of blowing out your mouth into the snorkel, which decrease your tendency to also inhale with your nose. Give that a shot for a little. If it doesn’t work you could use a nose plug.
Hmm, I consider the purge valve to be worthless, unless you can put your finger on the top of the snorkel. A tube without one clears with far less effort. Some of the round ones have caps for them which will reduce the opening, and some are smaller diameter for the same reason. Can't say that I noticed any difference, but most of the time when I use a snorkel, I an not sprinting.
Thats a really interesting point. I find the purge valve helpful collecting some of the left over water or spit that would otherwise be breathed in on the next inhale between breaths or after clearing. I can see that one without would make clearing it easier, but I dont have an issue clearing a snorkel with the valve and appreciate it for breaths in between. I do think the snorkel has a small learning curve, and takes some time getting use to using while training. Which brands do you like? I
I have several, but only use an Arena one. I run into the same problem with all of them. Most need to be maybe 2 inches taller. I look straight down at the bottom of the pool when swimming freestyle, and perhaps because of my large head, if I am not looking farther ahead than normal, I get water in the tube. All of my goggles are at the farthest reach of the straps, and so are my snorkels. I need to try those Magic 5 goggles to get some that fit. I have all goggles on the widest nose bridge piece, and some fit and some don't. I do a lot of kicking laps because my kick is very weak. Part of that may be from age, 73, and part may be because I didn't swim, and part for sure is ankle flexibility. I do go pigeon toed. I also use the Finis Positive drive fins. They are the only ones that are ergonomically correct since we don't have flat feet like frogs. They are off set with a lot of fin on the little toe side, and minimal fin on the big toe side. My favorite stroke is the old over arm side stroke, which is faster than breast stroke and back stroke. Only record was set in 1895. 1:02.5 for 100 yards. Dropped from competition prior to 1900 Olympics when they added breast stroke because it was more 'gentlemanly' because there was less splashing.... I swim it with a flutter kick rather than the scissor kick, which creates huge amounts of drag.
wow, thanks for sharing. I also wish some of the snorkels were longer, or had a sharper curve over the head, particularly for butterfly and breaststroke. The Magic5 have a new snorkel and gear bag. You can get 20% off goggles and gear with my code DALY20 @@robohippy
This looks great! I've been having back issues with swimming so I think this will work well for me. Thanks so much for the advice. Im not wild about the goggles Im using. Do you have an affiliate link for the swim goggles you like best for an outdoor pool? Thank you.
Keeping your head down and neutral could keep the rest of your spine in a longer position. Let me know how it goes! Yes, I swim in the Magic5 custom goggles - 20% off with checkout code DALY20
I have a question, is it possible to practice swimming using side mounted snorkel instead of front mounted ones?
You could try. It may not have a purge valve and may also feel like more drag hanging from the side instead of centered and streamlined in the front. In fact at faster speeds it may move and shake
I tried to use the center snorkel but find the pressure in my sinuses is terrible. Breath in with the mouth and out with the nose, still does not relieve the pressure.
Any thoughts?
Try a nose clip. A lot of pros even use one.
