EPIC FAIL! How NOT to use a Panasonic bread maker machine!

    This video is a demonstration of one of the modes on my Panasonic 2511 bread maker (SD-2511KXC).
    I WILL BE MAKING NEW LOAF OF BREAD EACH AND EVERY WEEK - Subscribe to keep updated.
    In this video, I am trying to use the Rapid Loaf function in the Panasonic 2511 bread machine, and I was specifically trying to make a wholemeal loaf.

    Basically, I selected the wrong program. Now, I didn’t immediately realise that white bread and brown bread have different rise times. Wholemeal flour takes a lot longer. I selected Menu 2, which is for the white bread mode, whereas I should have selected Menu 6, which is for wholemeal. If you select the right mode, you get a whole extra hour added to the cook, which allows the dough to rise properly.
    As you can see in the video, the bread is about half the size it should be, which doesn’t look great at all. But on the positive side, the crust was still pretty good.
    I didn’t really want to throw it away, so I thought what the heck and ate it anyway. It was still pretty good to be honest!

    I think you are supposed to put yeast in last not first.

      Panasonic machine yeast goes in first, I’ve got a Lidl one, it goes in last..

    I have had a Panasonic machine for more than twenty years. It still does the job and I don't think the various upgrades made it any better. However, the preset programmes are useless. The way to go is to play with the different presets. But then, it would be so much easier to have a machine that allows you to completely customise your process.

      Yes, I agree sometimes I just want to intervene and change a few settings myself, but the machine insists if you select Programme X, then it must do it 'this' way lol. Can be annoying at times, especially if you change brand of ingredients as I've noticed different brands of flour/yeast can give you 2 completely different loaves..a bit of adjustment would be welcomed for sure!

      I am on my third Panasonic having used them for many years. They still seem to give the best, most consistent results. I also have a Sage breadmaker, marketed as a Breville overseas. It can produce a bigger loaf, has a very informative display and is fully customisable on all its bread making stages. However the results are nowhere near as good as the Panasonic. Loaves usually come out lopsided due to uneven temperatures and the novel folding paddle can fail as well as being awkward to clean. I don’t think the perfect breadmaker exists.

      @@wrongway2001 I've heard alot of people say this about the Panasonic and that's why I thought it would be the safer option to start with one of those.
      So far it has been alright - it has failed a couple of times because of my own mistakes, but a couple of times was because it didn't like the quality of the flour/yeast I put in.
      Is it just the Panasonics that have the hole in the bottom of the loaf?

      @@propercushty I wouldn't use out of date flour or yeast. Flour has got a fair bit of leeway apparently but can be a source of poor bread. Yeast is important, I learnt that from brewing beer and wine. I use Allinsons Easy Bake yeast usually or Doves Farm. Both produce good consistant results.
      As far as I know nearly all breadmakers have the paddle leaving a hole in the bottom of the bread. In fact the holy grail of breadmakers according to the forums is the Zojirushi which has two paddles. The Sage I have has a collapsable paddle, but that can be very temperamental. The paddle goes upright (or it should do) if it turns clockwise and it folds flat when it turns anticlockwise. It's bad to clean as hardened dough gets in the swivel joint. It can be taken apart after removing a couple of small hex screws. One of mine stripped the head as it was stuck. Took 4 months to get a replacement. Even though it folds flat it still leaves a very noticable hole in the bottom. But the biggest bugbear for me is the poor crust and uneven lopsided loaf. I am sur this is due to uneven heating and poor temperature control. Most of Sage's other products are very good.
      I initially got the Sage as it produces a bigger loaf of a size similar to a bought large loaf. But I have found homemade bread does not keep as long as store bought bread. It doesn't seem to grow mould as quick but goes crumbly and falls apart too easily after about 3 days. So I now prefer to make the smaller sized loaf which is used up in a day or two.

      @@wrongway2001 Yes that's right Allinsons is the one we have switched to and got decent results with.
      Got to be honest, that Sage sounds like an absolute nightmare! Usually Sage's products are very good as they're more luxury products I thought.
      Yeah totally agree for some reason the bread out of these machines only lasts a short while - we don't keep ours more than a day as the next day we notice it goes really dry on the outside. Perhaps they're putting preservatives into the bread people buy in-store?

    Does your machine make cracking sound when mixing dough when it is at the end of mixing cycle? wandering if there is safety over torque mechanism like in some model RC cars or our breadmeaker is been buggered for a while.

    Useful information thanks. Though I still think the biggest mistake was using axil grease instead of butter 😝🤣

      Oh absolutely! My other half has this thing about low fat stuff (unfortunately for me!) Going to use the real stuff next time!

      @@propercushty lol mine likes the healthy eating stuff too but we still use butter because it has no additives apart from salt ( she has a thing about chemicals lol )

      @@propercushty the margarine was devised as machine lubricant that was tried out on turkeys but killed them, use BUTTER not oils.

    You should have definitely used program 6, and even in the recipe for rapid weholemeal bread, 20 ml more water is used.

    Every bread machine comes with an instruction booklet. Robin Hood bread machine recipes are online. Follow the instructions.
    Wet to dry ingredients. Add yeast to the center of the mix. So easy.

    Stupid question from me - does your Penny not have a yeast dispenser? The last few loaves I’ve made have ALL failed despite following the instructions to the letter - none of the ingredients are out of date, damp or anything so not sure what’s going on!

      Hello happy to answer your question.
      My breadmaker does not have a yeast dispenser as far as I am aware. It does have a raisin/nut dispenser.
      The model number is SD-2511KXC.
      I've had a few weird loaves come out, but then we bought new yeast/flour and everything came out ok again.
      Really haven't a clue what's going on there if I'm honest!
      Did you try using the Troublshooting guide in the manual?

      Panasonics measure the temperature of the room to adjust the ingredients - maybe this accounts for people really loving these machines and really hating them !

    Interesting to your method and trying to spot the mistake you mentioned, but nobody here seemed to see the first error you made as I couldn't see the top of the machine, ie., as on my Panasonic there is a cavity underneath the lid where the yeast goes and that stays in there until the machine requires it, on your model you put yeast in with the mix, okay.

    Think your using the wrong yeast that’s not fast action yeast. I don’t think the one your using is suitable for bread machines
