Yes, I'm repaying a house loan also - and want to repay it as soon as possible, and I've previously been excessively shopping, so I have so much stuff already. I'm dedicated to not buy anything but necessities for the next 55 months (!). ;) I'm exactly 22 days in, but I know I'm good at sticking with decisions. Also, as I said: I really need to shop my own closet - I have so many items that I love (and have completely forgotten about). It's an eye opener to actually REALLY organize your belongings, because chances are if you want something specific that you already have it. An example - I was thinking I needed more sports bras, but as I went through my sportswear it turned out I had 5-6 more sports bra... So, I'm looking forward to becoming debt free AND getting to wear some of the awesome I already have. :)
Currently down sizing and working in small areas to minimize any unwanted unused items draw by draw and only taking $20 with me so I’m not tempted to spend .
i agree - only try to follow those who inspire you. as soon as i start to feel crappy/comparing about myself in response to something i see on social, i have to mute it/unfollow
I'm on a no-buy for the entire year. Exceptions are: food, meds and household consumables (detergent, vacuum bags, etc). Half way through, I feel very light and free. I don't care about frivolous shit anymore, like I've completely lost interest in keeping up with all of the new things. I have more time and energy so I started reading books again, which I haven't been able to do for the last I dunno ten years..? I can't imagine going back to my old ways. Just wish I had done this for myself a lot sooner. Thanks for a great video. ❤
I have savings but I should have a lot more than I do. I seem to feel the need to just buy anything in order to cure my bordem and I need to stop. I don't even need most of the stuff I buy.
I have learned that as i sort stuff or declutter that i see what i have and not need. others have even said they declutter some and discover what they got and forgot they had it any. so as u stop buying and use what u have already , u find that what u thought u needed u already had and can save more after decluttering for space.
That's exactly what I'm starting to do. I am trying to find youtubers fashion vloggers who do shop your closet for fashionable outfits. Like Alyssa Beltempo is a great one. I need to find more though. ua-cam.com/video/BBrFVquVzfE/v-deo.html
Thank you for this video! I am actually at the other end of the spectrum, an extreme minimalist. I don’t even have a bed. I sleep on a yoga mat. It’s hard for me to spend money even on basic things (like clothes!) that I need. So, this year I’ve allowed myself to buy good quality basics. Nothing trendy or fast fashion. I feel extreme consumerism and extreme minimalism are both ends of the same spectrum and caused by the same emotion: fear. Fear of missing out or fear of spending money. Both indicate a lack of trust. It’s fascinating to see how we all relate differently to things. Love your channel! ~Sarah
I totally agree on the extremes of both sides; I am working on myself to find that balance too, because you're right - fear drives the extremes - but why are we afraid of finding balance? it's what i'm trying to learn. xo
@@Christinamychas It's the ego that fears its own death. The ego is strengthened, and identity is reinforced through the actions of both sides. It's hard to give up an identity and to "just be." That's why. Have you read "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle? He talks a lot about consumerism, ego and identity in that book. Highly recommend reading for a low-buy year. :)
Considering my bed is where I spend 30% of my life, I invest on a good one which hopefully will last for a very long time. Good sleep turns into good quality of life.
After only five minutes of watching I really love and respect this woman for being SO HONEST about herself! We can all learn from this, not only tho shop less, but also learn from her skills of self reflection. Being truly honest to ourselves is the way to change our lives for the better.
Unsubscribing is definitely a game changer. When I want to but something I transfer the amount to my savings or acorns account. It feels just as good as buying something I didn’t need
Animals, Nature, Beauty thank you so much for your beautiful words - it’s comforting to know I’m not alone and even more so that sharing this could help and inspire others 🙏🏻
I shop at the thrift store and find designer clothes that look like they've never been worn. After losing 32 pounds, that was how I built my wardrobe for less money.
I finally figured out that there is no end to 'things', and what I already have is more than enough. So I just stopped buying 'stuff' and I'm alright, lol.
Hana Tanana ABSOLUTELY that’s what I learned too and often need to remind myself of; there’s always a “hunt” and a craving that’s never really satisfied
Christina, we each have our demons to overcome. Over the past two years, I have been successful in gradually overcoming a sugar and binge eating addiction which resulted in my weight topping out at 296 pounds. Now, I am tackling my finances, and you have inspired me to begin 2020 in no-buy/low-buy mode. Thank you for your honesty which is helping so many people! Best wishes!
My parents used to give me 20 or 40 dollars each month and i would spend it all in like a week without any concern. Even if i didn't needed anything i would feel the need to buy something just to get rid of the money, now that i started my first job and earn money by myself i dont want to waste a single penny. I dont know what happened lol. I want to save money for no reason really, im 17 so i still live with my parents and i have no responsibilities to pay. Im Saving every paycheck and not waste anything until i get out and move out hopefully in like 2-3 years.
I fall easily YES! Good for you! You’re way ahead of the game if this is your mindset now. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I highly recommend dave Ramsey to keep you on your path to wealth, giving, and good habits ❤️ - wish I found him when I was your age!
My furniture, kitchenware, linens and clothes are more than 25 years old. I take good care of everything I have. Everything is still like new. Happily retired.
Diane R you are goals, Diane! It’s so easy for me to get caught up in trends and what’s “new” - it’s why I had to stop for a while and slow down to appreciate and take care of what I already have. You’re an example of that! Love it!
I stopped buying the thing I found to solve a problem- and instead focused on the quality of the thing I was buying so I would never have to buy it again. Since then (a few years ago), I haven’t bought any kitchen items, lawn furniture, new clothing, shoes, interior furniture, and home decor. I bought good quality items to replace the cheap ones I disposed of. Quality is key. Quantity is a goal I’m aiming toward (or, technically, AWAY from).
The older I get the more I realize its not about the amount of things but how well you take care of the things you already have. I find that everything I own I love, all I had to do is learn to appreciate it. I am now taking care of my things more and more and find that opening my closet, or kitchen cabinets makes me want to use my things not replace them.
I find it so refreshing that you actually call yourself shopping addict and not trying to look for excuses and reasons somewhere else. I’m same. I started thinking more rationally towards end of last year. My situation is a bit different, I don’t have many good basics in my wardrobe because my wardrobe is full of crap. So now I limit myself to only buying basics that I absolutely need and only of good quality and fabrics. And I hardly buy anything or feel an urge to go shopping. Good luck and keep inspiring us!,
m.y. That’s an amazing shift you made! Basics are just so easy and really are the foundation to an amazing wardrobe and personal style. I’m fully an addict - changing my habits, mindset and family tree slowly. I’m only hoping to share my experience and hopefully inspire others to do the same. That’s amazing how you have made your change! Slay! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🥰
Alexandra Kineta I’m so happy you’re inspired! There’s some things I am still struggling with trying to balance not shopping and style blogging, but it’s all a process. You can do it, girl! 💪🏻💪🏻🌿✌🏻
THANK YOU!!! UA-cam and Instagram really make me feel like there is always something else I need. Trying to save and become more conscious of what clothing I purchase.
I'm happy I stumbled upon your channel. I can identify with the impulsive shopping, the emotional shopping, and the range of emotions (guilt mostly) accompanying this habit. In 2019 I tried to go low-shop but only lasted 3-4 months. Now, I'm back on it and really want to make it this time around. I've downloaded Money Matters app on my phone and first I did reality check. Listing all my purchases for 2 months, then I budgeted how it should be from now on, and I find that tracking every single purchase really helps.
I actually keep an clothing/accessories inventory in an Excel spreadsheet. I review it seasonally. It is so helpful. If I’m out & see something I think I need or want I check to see what I already have.
Love this! I started decreasing my spending overall, & right now I’m focusing on using up all my bathroom / hygiene / make-up products before buying new ones. It’s amazing how much shit I have on my countertop & in my shelves - I can’t wait to get it down to the bare bones of what I truly need. 😊
My name is Christina too. And I'm working on STOP ALL this BS shopping. I'm working on getting rid of all this stuff. To get rid of it,it feels so good. The crazy part is,the more I declutter my mind is clear, and I feel free. I have never heard of low buy,I'm trying the NO BUY. Thanks for sharing, more videos pls.. You have a new subbie.
Love this video. I exactly changed my ways this very year. I sold a lot of my purses, shoes, and jewelry that I could. Give away a lot of clothes in my closet that didn’t make me happy when I would wear it because I wasn’t comfortable. So I now start with the basics that I know I like. I had a $1400 purse that I won’t wear and I wore wear my purses that were less than $100. I have paid off 3 credit cards because of selling my stuff and not buying clothes all the time. I wish you can see more influences that repeat their clothes and that are not always buying luxury purses.
I really appreciate your straight-forward approach to this. As someone who gets a little burnt out by watching...pretty much everyone buy into this culture of constant consumption. I think it's an issue that many people have, and the fact that you're speaking out about your issues with it and being honest and open about how you're trying to grow is really admirable.
Julia Daughton thank you SO much, Julia! I really did get caught up in it - 6 months in I feel like I’m getting caught up in it again. Need a reset and feeling that exhaustion of “wanting”. I think the shift is slowly moving towards loving what you own ; if there are holes in what you need, fill them mindfully, you know? At least it’s what I’m trying to do!
I'm working on a low buy year. I keep better inventory of my items. I still buy stuff that I want. I keep a tighter budget. I use the 30 day rule when purchasing an item that I want. I also set aside a impulse buy budget and won't feel guilty about it.
WishaWii the 30 day rule is great! My friends and I call it “the test” - wait on an item to see if you still want it or not, and if you do, don’t feel guilty about purchasing as long as it’s within ones means. I think what you’re doing is really balanced! Xo
I have an addiction for about 20 years ...... idk 😐 i get myself in to depths but it never hit me hard .....i buy not only for my self n for my family’s n friends. It make me happy but I’m the only one suffering with the credit cards monthly bills n late fee 😞 im a shame of it but i cant 🛑 thankyou for the video i ll try ur plan.... its like walking into the wall n hurting urself but u cant turn around even if ur blooding out 🤦♀️
I watched these videos way back when you first posted them, but recently found myself needed a behavior change again and love that I can come back and rewatch them!
Thank you so much. It help me to know that I’m not the only one with debt and have shopping addiction. I should start less shopping or No Shopping. Thanks
I’m doing a low buy too! I’m trying to make sure I use all the product before I buy another product. This is really working for me with skincare because I tend to buy a lot of skincare I never use.
My daughter just flew to Toronto today for school. She has a shopping habit so she's now on a 2 year no buy zone. I sent her the link of this video. Thanks for posting
Honestly as soon as my size is sold out, I feel at peace. Like theres no I WANT IT BUT I DONT NEED IT BUT ITS SO BEAUTIFUL. cuz its gone. I missed it, and i don't feel as bad as i thought I would when it sold out.
I just discovered you by accident but I’m so glad I did. I feel like listening to you was listening to myself. I am impressed with you. I am going to start a low but no buy because of your video. I am inspired by you. I totally understand how buying stuff can only make you happy for short time and then you are filled with guilt and stress. Thank you for changing my day and hopefully my life 🤗
good for you! my shopping addiction has definitely delayed my moving on into life and reaching big goals like this. another reason to stop. i hope you find your amazing home soon! xo
I’ve recently started to live more minimal which has changed my mindset a lot! This low buy series is helping me SO much. I have an impulse shopping habit and never really need things but I act like I need it and then end up with so much clutter and no money. I am not no longer watching hauls or being consumed into sales and things that will try make me spend money. Thank you so much! You have inspired me and helped my mental health. I have learnt to appreciate the things I have now ❤️
Thank you for this! I found your channel very recently and have decided to do a low buy in an aim to gently but firmly shift my mindset for the long haul. I'm watching loads of your videos and planning to rewatch all of Hannah Poston's no buy videos to keep me motivated. Being so vulnerable and sharing your story is honestly life changing for those of us that need to hear it, so once again, thank you.
I have decided to do a no buy this January 1st. I like you am a shopping addict. It is overwhelming me. I am watching you daily to get support. Thanks for this. 💕
I love how real a teary-eyed you are in this video. It's raw and real and im glad to see this. It's exactly how I feel right now and really needed this! Thank you ❤️
Such a great reminder defintely unsubscribe helps not be tempted. I spent about a week clearing out my email box. Another thing to help me stop is tracking the categories you have the most trouble with.
"I wasnt enough too I got the thing..." I can totatly relate, everything is so perfect in a lot of youtubers videos and therefore you dont feel like you or your home is good enough compared... we should be better at not comparing... it hurts us
Loved this tips! Definitely gonna try them, except from skincare as I think is really important to take care of our skin. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Wow I definitely do the same thing.... Like I feel like, once I have this thing, I'll be complete and can really enjoy who I am. So weird. Then once I get it, I want another thing.
i can't tell you how much this has helped me. everything you're saying is exactly what i've been going through and as soon as i made the decision to stop shopping and be more intentional, your channel appeared like a frkn angel T_T thank you so much
Congrats! I have gone through the same thing. Only realized I was addicted to on line shopping when I decluttered. Now I have only bought supplies in order for us to go green. I will definitely follow u for motivation
Patrick Byrne I love it! What kinds of green supplies have you acquired so far? I think decluttering and doing a Low Buy inherently makes you more aware of living low waste and greener. I love it!
Great video! I’ve been a shopaholic ever since I got my first pay check. I’m now 33. My usuals are clothes, shoes, bags, make up, sunglasses, skincare. Basically things that I can wear. It’s how I express myself. I used to be so bad. I’d be obsessed with something and have to get that specific item. I’d love it and wear it but also be onto the next thing then the next then the next. It’d go on and on and on for years. Some things were stupid money that I didn’t have, some things I wouldn’t even wear or use and were a complete waste of money. This year we had a cash injection. I paid off all my debts and have had disposable income. It’s been really hard! I’ve been shopping loads. I’ve tried to be sensible though and to be fair I absolutely love every piece I have. People would (still do) stop me around the office saying ‘you look fabulous’ ‘I love that shirt or jumper, where did you get it?’ ‘yet another stunning outfit’ ‘you are always so well put together’ I loved it, I still love it. I love wearing beautiful clothes, even if they are cheap (most of my clothes are not designer) it’s not the price, it’s the style. I feel like I’m finally starting to plateaux with my spending. I’ve realised that I like to have enough outfits on rotation but it’s not too extensive. I’ve watched videos of people decluttering their wardrobes and have 10x what I have. I threw a lot away to be replaced with new and I feel like I’m there. This month (June) has been good for me. I bought a couple of summer off the shoulder tops and I bought a spare of a shirt I already have. No make up. Nothing. I’m in a really good place with my wardrobe and make up. I still browse but most of it I don’t like or don’t feel I need and this month I’ll have £300 left over at the end of the month which I’m really proud of. I’m still getting so much joy out of the things I already have. I will look at an item and remember how I felt when I first bought it and I feel that still appreciating the things I have helps keep me on track. It helps me to not get obsessed with something new. Hope everyone else is doing well this year!
Hayley Lisa Tim I’m in tears this makes me so happy - I think we have had very similar experiences and very similar realizations around very similar times. I’m so proud of where you’ve gotten and where you’ll still go. Thank you for following along here too. Xo 😘
Wow.. totally a great video that speaks to me indeed. I am late to the party so to speak, for I just discovered your channel, however, I am go glad I did! I am on a 3 month No Buy Challenge, I slipped a bit in Feb and purchased a pair of leggings that I really could have done without. I did not get down on myself, I will keep going to April 15th (2023) which is my last day. I have a Wish List like you suggested in another vid and will be very careful to not go wild on the 16th.. LOL. Thank you for being so real. (My impulse buying areas are in clothes and electronics..) Now off to solidify my Why! That will be so helpful!
I love your channel it’s like sitting down with a wise friend, I’m working my way backwards through your videos. I love Hannah Louise Poston too, your content is great.
Wow what an honest video. So much of what you spoke about resonated with me. I too am going through a shopping detox of sorts. About a year ago I was fed up and overwhelmed at the amount of clothing, shoes and accessories I had accumulated and yet still felt I had nothing to wear which was ridiculous! I decided to take stock of what I had and take back control. The game changer for me was discovering an app called Stylebook which is your virtual closet on your phone. It took me ages to photograph everything I owned and populate it on the app but I haven’t looked back since. I found that I’m a visual person so if something is out of sight it’s out of mind. But now everything is catalogued and I can easily see everything that I have to put outfits together, pack for trips and thoughtfully plan to buy items that I discovered I needed from styling my outfits. I have bought a minimal number of things this last year but miraculously everything I have bought I am using and enjoying because they were purchased with thought and purpose. I’m getting more use out of the things I have instead of just wearing the same 10 - 20% of my wardrobe. I also use the app to put together inspiration outfits I find on the internet and continue to be amazed that I can mimic the majority of them without buying anything. And the best part is that I have put together a catalogue of outfits I can refer to when I’m feeling uninspired. I have received so many more compliments on my look this last year as I’m more put together. I’m writing about this here in case this kind of tool could help someone else. Thanks for the video!
I love what you said about taking an inventory of your own clothes. I really love what I have but I rarely shop in my own closet. It’s funny when you pull something out that you haven’t worn in a while you are reminded of how much you love it and that you really don’t need anything new. I just found this video and really enjoyed it and look forward to watching more with the same type of content. I truly feel like wearing what you already old is the secret to spending less!
Thank you for that, they are brilliant, clear, simple steps to take, I am looking forward to trying them out, well done for sticking to your shopping rules. God bless you. Ela
after watching your video I started journaling - in an Excel Sheet - everything I wear. This has forced me to wear the clothes I adore but "save for good moments" and to wear the clothes I see myself in. Now I started using clothes I wasn't used to to see what I love and what I don't - and donating the ones I don't love that much ✨ This has been LIFE changing . Thank you 💙
Or something I’m doing too that could help, is if you a really wanting to buy something, wait until you can find it at the beat price or free. I subscribe to Facebook amazon deals and I have been able to save money on holidays on gifts for people using the deals. I’m also acquiring gifts all year around for the holidays, this year, so I don’t have a huge amount to spend in December. I’d def check out the deals! Great video!! I’m inspired to keep track of my purchases more
Great video! I have also been trying to have a low buy year. It's so awesome to hear your thoughts. It is really hard, and for us in America, we get bombarded by Sales all the time. I have had to unsubscribe from a lot of companies.
This is such a great video. I love how real you are and you sound like you are at that "fed up" point that Dave Ramsey talks about. My husband and I follow the financial principles he lays out and I am definitely low buy, but the pull towards buying clothes and eating out is always there for me, it just kinda waxes and wanes. Can't wait to follow your journey with this!
sunbirdsc I’ve definitely had that “GET MAD” moment Dave talks about. The low buy and habits definitely wax and wane, so going back to these and Daves fundamentals have been SO key. You and your husband sound like a great team - I love it. xo
Great video!! Loved listening to your tips and learning how you're going about it! Social media and the influx of emails and ads can totally trigger behavior we don't want. Totally respect you for realizing what's going on and working to change it. Keep going, you're really doing amazing! xx
I came across this video as a I am decluttering my closet because i just can’t do it anymore and I have to say.. this is the first time I hear someone hit it right on the spot... the not feeling enough definitely applies to me. Thank you for this.
I don't know if you read comments from your old videos, but I'm sitting here listening to this playlist on no-buy/low-buy you have while I sort through my clothes. Your growth from this point to your last video is wonderful. You are so much kinder to yourself now than when you started. I hope you realize how powerful that mindset transition is. It is inspiring to me. Happy New Year 🎉
Debbie Daniel I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I really get I had to share ; you’re never alone in a struggle. I hope people can relate and find the tips helpful! Xo
I know this is 4 years late, but thank you for sharing this ❤ I just started doing a no-buy year and this video popped up on my feed. This motivates me to stick with it!
I want to do a low buy or no buy for year 2020. First I'll unsubscribe all fashion and makeup channels. I just subscribed to your channel. Your video is very inspiring. Thank you!
Great Video Christina! I’m from Vienna, am working as a general sales manager assistant in a big fashion company and have the same problem like you Starting from 1st of July I also start my year of not buying new clothes! I’m so excited how this is going to effect my mind and my view about certain things. Going to keep watching your videos and your progress! All the best! Julia
I've totally been on the same path for not shopping. My motto now is, if it's not replacing another item, I won't buy it. It's made me more aware of the clothes I have and only buying when I absolutely have to. Love your tips. Also, what's that lipstick you're wearing? I can't help but be curious. It's beautiful!
Nyree Feijoo that’s the perfect motto! It’s definitely part of my “ground rules” which I will be talking about in my next video! And it’s Freckle by Fenty! 😚😚
This is exactly what I needed to hear. I have been struggling with a lot of the same issues and need to get a handle on my spending. Thank you for your honesty and good luck with your goals. ♥️
I enjoyed this video very much. I found it very thought provoking and inspirational. I have been thinking about doing a no buy and some of points you made were right on point for me. Good luck on your journey. I hope to start mine soon.
Thank you for being so open and vulnerable. Unsubbing from sales emails is so true! I've felt the same way about buying new things often, so I soon reliazed I needed to cultivate a resolve to use all my shadow palettes, serum, etc. before buying more makeup. New booties? I need to run my current booties into the ground and try taking them to a shoe repair before buying new ones. Hole in a dress? Strap break? Get out my sewing kit and try to fix it before I buy a new one. For that new face care product thrill, I have a small subscription box with 4 masks for $8 and I'm not allowing myself to buy more masks outside of that sub. There's room for improvement but you're right, this is about growing and learning to find an individualized strategy that works. Hang in there! ♥
Thanks for sharing this Christina. I started to notice that I have a shopping problem when packages turned up at my house and I could not remember when I purchased them. This is my wake up call and your story is really inspiring me to start my no/low-shop journey. Keep up the good work xxxx
Thank you so much for sharing your tips! This def helps me so much as it calms my temptation to buys my skincare products (as Black Friday approaches). I strongly agree when you declutter your living space regularly, you will realize you are having and owning so many things, and that it does not need to buy anything more. I have been experiencing with the fear of missing out (not with the stock market lol) with the deals that the websites promote. I need to stop wasting my time scrolling through those websites because they're gonna just make me spending more and stock up things that I wont need or buy them and leave them until they're expired ahhh
Thank you so much for this video. I struggle so badly with buying stuff I don’t need simply bc I think it looks cute. It’s very frustrating. I did a no buy for a few weeks but I always end up shopping again out of boredom.
This video popped up and it was a God thing I’m sure. I am a makeupaholic and have been trying to figure how to stop this crazy shopping!! Thank you so much!!!
Mary Davidson I am/was too! I had to declutter and give away so much and really tried to hone in on what I actually used; turns out it’s a lot less than I thought. You can do it! Xo
Aw I just saw your channel & immediately subscribed. this video really speaks to me! I’m doing a low shopping June, too, and it’s been liberating! props to you for committing to it for a year!
Having my morning coffee, and I love watching your videos. It’s amazing how decluttering branches out to every aspect of your life. I decided to Swedish death clean after my parents passed. I never wanted my daughter one day to have to deal with ridding our possessions. I knew we had years before this would happen, but I was just so upset after my siblings and I had to sell my parents home. This was 4 years ago. I never was a over buyer, but still had so much I didn’t wear, or use or love. Fast forward to,now , and 6k worth of donations, and also selling my unwanted items. I have a nice bank account, plus I only have what I use, want, love. I lost the 20 lbs I had always wanted to, I became plant based, I am really aware of the environment, I only buy something if I need it, or to replace something that is no longer good, like this week my soup ladle broke, I needed to buy a new one. My walk in closet has about 4 empty racks, I find I don’t need a lot of clothing, I just mix and match my capsule wardrobe, and use accessories to change up the look. I don’t go browsing, which is key... I just adore your your content. Your straight and to the point. Some inspired you, I think you inspire many xo
Helpful video....for me. Today I've been cleaning up and shame on me...I've find sooo many things unopen and with tickets then I wonder why since when I had all this...without using. I really need to stop buying if I don't have the real need. I will be gifting most of it. We really don't need that much. Its important to save money...which is hard to work for to just throw it away. There are more important things to do. Thanks for this video it has made me more conscious. I just subscribe to your channel. It will help me stay on track.
Wanda Sanfiorenzo De Rodriguez thank you so much Wanda! All of these are amazing things to keep top of mind. My closet was and still is full of unworn bits that I am slowly going through. It’s surprising how little we really need!
Are you currently doing a or thinking of doing Low Buy Year? How are you keeping on track?
reminding myself to be economically friendly
I try to buy more sustainable items and because these are more expansive I am not buying everything I like 😌
This video couldn't have get in to my life in a better moment. Thanks!
Currently down sizing and working in small areas to minimize any unwanted unused items draw by draw and only taking $20 with me so I’m not tempted to spend .
Unfollow influencers. Game changer 🙌🏾
i agree - only try to follow those who inspire you. as soon as i start to feel crappy/comparing about myself in response to something i see on social, i have to mute it/unfollow
I’m definitely going to try these rules thank you very much
Choose them carefully. Examine the vibe. Some lead us home.
I don't even follow influecers and I still spend money lol.
I do that apart from people like this page who I find inspirational xx
I'm on a no-buy for the entire year. Exceptions are: food, meds and household consumables (detergent, vacuum bags, etc). Half way through, I feel very light and free. I don't care about frivolous shit anymore, like I've completely lost interest in keeping up with all of the new things. I have more time and energy so I started reading books again, which I haven't been able to do for the last I dunno ten years..? I can't imagine going back to my old ways. Just wish I had done this for myself a lot sooner. Thanks for a great video. ❤
Car washes? Shoes? (Needed)
@@lavendergilly5843 I only have 3 pairs of shoes i have been using the past 10 years. Just need to keep them clean.
Good for you. The more people stop buying useless crap the better
I need serious help
I find it so respectful when one you tuber gets ideas from another and takes a second to credit that person!
Instead of "I am a shopping addict," maybe say "I am a recovering shopping addict." I think it helps convince your brain you're recovering. 😀
I have savings but I should have a lot more than I do. I seem to feel the need to just buy anything in order to cure my bordem and I need to stop. I don't even need most of the stuff I buy.
pt123 that was def my problem too and one I feel creeping up again
I have learned that as i sort stuff or declutter that i see what i have and not need. others have even said they declutter some and discover what they got and forgot they had it any. so as u stop buying and use what u have already , u find that what u thought u needed u already had and can save more after decluttering for space.
pt123 same
This is so me
Once you have decluttered I think it would help to apply the one in one out rule.
#1 Stop watching You Tube fashion bloggers!
Buffy Alten *if you cant: replacement them with thrift fashion bloggers :)
Thank is exactly what I am going to do!!
That's exactly what I'm starting to do. I am trying to find youtubers fashion vloggers who do shop your closet for fashionable outfits. Like Alyssa Beltempo is a great one. I need to find more though.

Buffy Alten i already unsubscribe and stop following channels or persons that dont inspire me to grow, and i feel much better
~Sarah
Sarah Lighthipe wow sleeping on
a yoga mat is a commitment. My back would hurt so much doing that.
Good sleep turns into good quality of life.
love that Sarah
After only five minutes of watching I really love and respect this woman for being SO HONEST about herself! We can all learn from this, not only tho shop less, but also learn from her skills of self reflection. Being truly honest to ourselves is the way to change our lives for the better.
Unsubscribing is definitely a game changer. When I want to but something I transfer the amount to my savings or acorns account. It feels just as good as buying something I didn’t need
Marie Designz FOR SURE! And that’s an amazing way to quantify how much you saved vs almost spent - I love that
I started doing this too! Its nice to see the savings grow.
I think you've probably helped more people than you may realize by making this video. Thank you and keep up your great work! God Bless.
Royal Navarre AMAZING! Good for you! You must feel so great! And I think that’s the smartest way to shop! Totally inspired!
So do I. Iost 40 lbs. Bought a Dooney Burke at a thrift store for 25 dollars yesterday.
@@victoriaring3846 what a snag! awesome! congratulations on your healthy journey! xo
I love thrifting!! Some times I get really lucky and find a lot of good stuff!! Congratulations on your goal of losing weight!
@@isol Thank you so much!!
My mantra is that whatever the amount of clothes I have, I can only wear one outfit at a time.
What a concept! I read an organizing book and underlined "the space you have is the space you have." I never thought of that.
Love it!
Tight arse
Admire people like you courageously admit your problems and openly discuss your solutions. Very inspiring 👍
Slay! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🥰

I was about to buy a 1300$ handbag (again...) and who saved me from pointless shopping again? Christina and her life-changing videos! Thank you!
THANK YOU!!! UA-cam and Instagram really make me feel like there is always something else I need. Trying to save and become more conscious of what clothing I purchase.
Dana Turner I totally got trapped in that world - we all likely have more than enough! Xo
I just did a closet purge. It felt so good! Now, everything in my closet are only things I actually love and wear.
D. Bennett yessss this is the best feeling!
This is so smart!
Cris Gomez but if you need a spreadsheet kuyabheda
I do, too just in a Word. Doc. This really helps me see at a glance how many clothes and what possibilities of outfits I have.
Love this! I started decreasing my spending overall, & right now I’m focusing on using up all my bathroom / hygiene / make-up products before buying new ones. It’s amazing how much shit I have on my countertop & in my shelves - I can’t wait to get it down to the bare bones of what I truly need. 😊
It is great when you reach that point. I'm finally there 😁. Just be mindful not to keep bringing in more. It can be a vicious cycle
oh yes!
This feeds my soul.
Mar Carrera you feed mine! Xo thank you ☺️

I love how honest you were, it really sat right with me. Proud of you for detaching from shopping and choosing yourself!!
Thank you so much. It help me to know that I’m not the only one with debt and have shopping addiction. I should start less shopping or No Shopping. Thanks
I have a paper planner and I make a checklist for the week, so I check off each day that I don’t purchase anything!
I’m doing a low buy too! I’m trying to make sure I use all the product before I buy another product. This is really working for me with skincare because I tend to buy a lot of skincare I never use.
You are honest and genuine about your lifestyle you choose and I admire it. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for this video. I needed to hear this. The way you described yourself and your addiction is how I feel, swept them under the table.
Thank you for this! I found your channel very recently and have decided to do a low buy in an aim to gently but firmly shift my mindset for the long haul.

I'm so happy to stumble on this channel. 🥺♥️
Now I started using clothes I wasn't used to to see what I love and what I don't - and donating the ones I don't love that much ✨
This has been LIFE changing . Thank you 💙
Or something I’m doing too that could help, is if you a really wanting to buy something, wait until you can find it at the beat price or free. I subscribe to Facebook amazon deals and I have been able to save money on holidays on gifts for people using the deals. I’m also acquiring gifts all year around for the holidays, this year, so I don’t have a huge amount to spend in December. I’d def check out the deals! Great video!! I’m inspired to keep track of my purchases more
waiting is key i agree!

You and your husband sound like a great team - I love it. xo

Another good tip is: can I survive without it within a week? A month? If the answer is yes, then you don't need it.
This is exactly what I needed to hear. I have been struggling with a lot of the same issues and need to get a handle on my spending. Thank you for your honesty and good luck with your goals. ♥️

This is so straightforward and helpful, especially when you broke down the insecurity, search, purchase, letdown cycle.
Missy Kemp you broke down the emotions of that cycle perfectly! That’s exactly what happens. So true.
You need to do what is right for you and I’m here for it. I have started my journey like this almost 2 years ago and it’s liberating.
Carasforever that is AMAZING! Totally will keep your success in mind whenever I waiver. Congratulations!
Thank you so much for making this video, I’ve been struggling with a shopping addiction for years now and this is really helpful
Thanks for sharing this Christina. I started to notice that I have a shopping problem when packages turned up at my house and I could not remember when I purchased them. This is my wake up call and your story is really inspiring me to start my no/low-shop journey. Keep up the good work xxxx
She has me when she drops the odd 'Shit 'Bomb here and there .
Girl, thank you for your honesty. I struggle with buying little things and I really enjoy your honesty! Thank you so much for making this video!!
Xo
Amen to this! Great work. We need more of this..and less stuff!!
Aw I just saw your channel & immediately subscribed. this video really speaks to me! I’m doing a low shopping June, too, and it’s been liberating! props to you for committing to it for a year!
An Trieu thank you beauty! I LOVE your channel! Omg isn’t it so interesting what even a few weeks without shopping can reveal?
Love the editing AND she does time stamps! Why cant all youtubers be this awesome?
