How is your low buy going?
Thank you so much for this video Sophie. I started the low buy challenge back in january but with the summer I cheated a lot. Now I try to focus and stick to it. 😊❤️
Going well! :) I am so tempted to buy new jeans right now but trying to resist it :,)
Not well at all, the more I keep the rule to wait for 2 days I was tempted to buy immediately. Also I have realised I shop a lot on self care products like journal and stickers 😞 worst part I’m not even on any social media
I just joined the group Christina Mychas founded on Facebook and downloaded a digital kakebo to help. I also don't let myself buy anything more than what's on my list. It is SO HARD though. 😭
Some months have been better than others. 😬😇 I’m not giving up though.
I developed a serious shopping addiction during the pandemic, mostly to counter the boredom. It just felt like getting a package, mostly clothes and accessories, was the only thing to look forward to. At the beginning, I told everyone I thought it would last a year. I never imagined that I would still be only isolation, except for essential errands, now, after beginning on February 1, 2020 (I have some significant risk factors). Now I have a wardrobe big enough for four women. I have made some, but not a lot of, progress in slowly this down. I’m not going to pass anything on, with a few small exceptions, I love everI got, that’s something, I suppose.
you're definitely not alone. I completely understand if that was the only thing to look forward to :(
The same story here. I've challenged myself to not buy any clothes or shoes for two months and I'm only 2 weeks in. I'm definitely missing it.
@@JJJettplane I need help with this.I need to stop purchasing and keep doing it
I also developed my addiction during the pandemic. I loved getting a new package with clothes even though I didn't really have anywhere to wear them. I've started my decluttering journey and listed over 230 pieces on eBay. My closet and dresser are so much thinner it's frightening how much I had accumulated and wasn't even wearing. Things are selling slowly but I am getting them out of my house thankfully!
Definitely you are not alone...
The world really needs this message. We are so distracted by ‘things’ that we forget about focusing on ourselves, that’s been my experience. I feel the happiest when I feel free and I feel the most freedom when I am living in the moment and not ‘needing’ anything. I love the quote ‘less stuff, more adventure’.
Yes!! Freedom is what we should be after 😍
Totally agree xx
@Ariane you can break the habit as I have. I realise that I wanted to feel differently and those things I bought made me feel like someone else. I was also scared to wear my pretty dresses and bags because I might damage them and wanted to save them for ‘special occasions’ only. I have so many things I’ve never worn and they all feel overwhelming. Journaling has really helped and it might sound weird but focusing on getting to know myself better has helped me want things less. You can overcome any challenges in life, I have definitely overcome a lot. I’m rooting for you! Wishing you so much happiness and peace 💕
I love experience, not things.
I had a terrible spending problem when I was younger. I spent all my money on clothes and other stuff, ran up all the credit cards and bounced cheques all over the place. After some therapy, I discovered that I had a huge hole in my life and had to make a lot of changes. Today, I’m debt-free and have a handle on my spending. I wish I’d had the insight that you’re finding when I was your age. Good for you! Hugs from Canada.
Can you please describe the hole? I can’t figure out mine 😢
i have realised that the excitement of buying and getting a new thing only exists till the time i get that thing delivered and i use it probably once and then it no longer pleases me.
Yes!!! it's so short lived and many times I regret it
I do online window shopping, I browse, put it in the basket and then leave it there, after two or three weeks I realize I don’t want that anymore, and sometimes I even forget about it, my amazon wishlist is endless XD
I think the end really summed it up for me. The part where she says (paraphrasing here) “never have I ever cared what I look like when I’m traveling something”
That’s precisely the root of my shopping addiction. I feel so ugly and self conscious all the time, I’m convinced only the next piece will make me feel better. That if only I get that one coat or that one pair of pants or that blazer or those boots, that’s what will solve my issues with feeling so self conscious alllll the time.
Im sorry you feel that way
This is so relatable. I would like to be the kind of person who really cherishes something, instead of buying something, and then it's on to the next thing without a thought. It's against my personal values, but so hard to overcome.
I’ve only just started my low buy challenge, specifically for clothes, but I’ve already found myself much less stressed and happier in my own skin
Clothes is a huge one for me as well! Still tackling my closet and reducing items
I've learned that there are very few items I actually need in life.
This is so true. I'm finding out slowly ❤
Right that’s what I’m trying to get to. If I don’t NEED it I don’t need it
I just lost my parter of 10 years. And now, I'm beginning to understand why he was very simple. He wanted the beautiful experiences rather than collecting souvenirs. He just buys undergarments when they are literally destroyed, and sometimes he even asked me to repair it. He also, wanted to change people's lives instead of just thinking of himself. Thank you, to the both of you! Hopefully I could heal and move forward soon. Thank you, we need more people like you online.
❤❤❤❤
recently because of the pandemic, ive gotten addicted to online shopping. but coming across your youtube channel inspired me to live simply and enjoy the things I only nned.
My intention with my low buy challenge is to be more intentional with how I spend money, slow down and focus on exactly what it is that I need that will benefit my life - I have gotten to know myself way more in what makes me happy
Love it! glad to know low buy has helped you achieve that 😍
Same
I used to go shopping a lot and bought things I didn't need. I also started to get overwhelmed by it, because I didn't know where to store all that stuff. When I started to sort out and give away things, it was such a feeling of freedom. I don't want to miss that anymore!
I just can't resist shopping when I see something shiny and pretty lol this is exactly what I need! Love your voice and your whole vibe, your videos really help me slow down and take a moment to breathe :)
I am so happy to hear this. Thank you so much! I still get tempted, but it's much easier having the right support system and having like minded people around ❤🥰
I am in the shopping addiction phase when it comes to clothing. I don’t have a problem not buying other things. Thank you for this video
Clothes are my weakness too. So many cute ones to buy, but I don't like the feeling of clutter now. Thanks for watching
Your honesty and self-acceptance is refreshing on every level! Thank you
😍❤🙏 Tammy! Thank you so much
@@MalamaLife
Where are you from malama ?
I've been shopping too much and I don't know why. I blame my anxiety and social media. Every day I get bombarded with emails. Thank you for talking about it.
I have had a shopping addiction for quite some time now; lately with skincare and makeup. I know it has to deal with my confidence issues. So glad to have your videos to help give me some guidance.
I'm glad it's helping! All the ads being pushed on us doesn't help
I think loving sports made it easier for me to never develop a shopping addiction, I found my joy by exercising.
Thats so great! Surfing is my new love now 😁❤
Cycling (which I enjoy very much) became an extension of my shopping addiction. I bought several bikes (road, gravel, mountain, hybrid) and a ton of cycling jerseys. In this world, if you want to spend the money there are sellers who will provide a ton of items to sell. But I'm getting it under control now and coming around to the gist of what you're saying. The key is enjoying what you do, not having a lot of crap to do it.
My joy is in swimming 🏊♀️ when I'm swimming the world disappears, problems disappear and the sheer notion of shopping doesn't exist - I'd much rather spend all day in the water then shopping any day and you don't need many material items to swim because the exercise doesn't rely on equipment, just water!
@@greenkitty82 It must be awesome! Unfortunately I can't swim.
Marcus Anark oh it's fantastic, my favourite thing to do. You can always learn! Never too old to start swimming!
Wow! Your parents were way ahead of their time! I really appreciate their idea of a "travel gift"! My parents were not big gift givers either and even though I do remember getting some gifts sometimes, I always remember the best times of my life were doing things with my parent! All kids really ever want is to be with their parents. I don't think it is bad to buy things, although I prefer minimalism. But, as a parent, if I had to choose between a gift or a vacation, or just a special place to spend with my children, that's a no brainer. Also, I think when you become a minimalist, you tend to feel freer like when you were a kid and you thought about playing and doing fun things. Minimalism is a freeing experience from material items that I may worry about to a feeling of freedom of those material items and free to "play or relax". ❤️
Love that you said it's a freeing experience. It's so true
I think you really nailed exactly what Low Buy is about. A guide, a reminder, and tool to set us up for success. Not yet another thing to agonize whether we are "doing it right" or not. Love it!
I can relate to your childhood story- my parents were the same way. Although minimalism and appreciating experiences instead of materialistic things makes sense as an adult, I often wonder if my shopping and divulging sweets habits stem from a deeper impact of my childhood. Maybe I’m buying things for myself as an adult, because I didn’t get presents as a child for birthdays. Maybe I’m eating ice cream for dessert after each dinner, because sweets were never allowed in the house; and on occasions my parents allowed sweets as a form of reward for getting good grades. Ultimately it is up to me to gain control of my life as decisions I make will impact my life on and forward.
I love your thoughts on this. and perhaps that's true! but as you said, it is up to us to gain control of our lives and make the decisions
My parents never got me gifts either, i never received materialistic things when I grow up but they let me travel since i was very young, we also been to so many places together, they helped me to study abroad. I am happy to appreciate this once again, thanks to your video :)
❤❤❤
Hi Sophie! I needed this video. I recently went on several major shopping sprees and totally got off track. This reminded me what is important in life. Thank you for your videos! I really appreciate them!
We all need these reminders :) happy it was good timing!
I feel exactly the way you did. I realize that maybe I really have a consumption issue some days ago, like you I am not overwhelmed in bills, but I can’t stop looking for things to buy with no real need. The hardest thing is that there is a entire portion of society that don’t see that as a problem, and that has been very difficult to overcome this habit built across decades. I really expect you help me with your videos. Thank you for share.
Thanks for watching 😍
I'm learning that I have a tendency to shop based on my emotional state! Working hard to change those habits!
Thank you for this video. I can relate to this. Im so glad I realized it is something I need to change this year. And realized it stems from me not having a lot in my childhood and once I started making my own money little by little I would shop to make me feel better. I would go shopping when I was feeling sad or stressed for things I didn’t even need or end up using/wearing and although it helped in the moment that feeling doesn’t last forever .
previously, i used to buy unnecessary amounts of clothes and makeup all the time but now, i have been purchasing books instead because i recently fell in love with reading. and i find that books are always a good investment and are wayyyy more worth the money 🥰
I’ve recently gotten a lot of books too. Mostly second hand or from the library
I love that. Probably better way to spend money :) especially if you get a lot of value out of those books
@Jana wow i'll definitely look into that! thank you :)
Best investment for women n parents is a life saving book called GIFT OF FEAR by GAVIN DE BECKER
Mindfulness is the key for any kind of addiction you may have. Practicing Mindfulness is the best thing I have done for myself. Though I'm still struggling with my up and down mood, i have seen my improvement.
My husband always say to me "make it simple". He is truly someone I can always learn from in this aspect. Make it simple. Compulsive shopping addiction can be understood simply as emotional spending. And mindfully, consciously observe your emotions, watch how it wants you to sabotage your life, empty your pocket and ruin your self-worth. Never feed it.
Mindfulness is the key. Remember that everyone :)
And one more piece fo advice is to get rid of FOMO. Yay. Fighting!!
Sometimes I feel the most addictive part is waiting for the package to arrive. It's such an exciting feeling to know something is on its way to you.
Thank you for humbly expressing and sharing your experience im very hard to convince for matters this way but humility goes a long way and thank you for being a lovely person!
Keep up the good work girly!
I really appreciated this video. I'm doing some self-discovery, and I've cut back on my spending a great deal. I've realized I've been trying to fill a deep void with shallow materialistic things. I've been focused on my passions and interests to not fill my time but enjoy my time. Thank you for the videos-the reminders are helpful!
Love this video Sophie, thanks so much. I don’t have a house yet, but living in a small apartment really curbed my buying habit as I just don’t have the space. This habit has really helped clear my mind and spend money on things that are actually important.
What a beautiful and profound video and your thoughts/feelings mirror mine at this time. I have very specific goals relating to shopping/saving now and it's liberating to cease mindless spending and remembering what is truly important. Thank you for this wonderful and empowering video. You are inspiring me even further.
Focusing on a more intentional minimalist lifestyle. My partner and I decluttered a lot this past weekend and we are working on a low buy year. In such a hyper consumer society it's nice to see so many folks in this movement :)
So amazing.. I needed this video so much. It took me a while to realize that I'm a shopping addict. I live in Brazil and here the price of things has gone up a LOT in the last 12 months. Now I can see the impact of my purchases on my budget. Thanks for the video. This inspired me to make a list of questions so I can ask myself whenever I want to buy something new.
(Sorry for my English, I'm still learning the language).
Good morning Love, I’ve made so much progress since the beginning of the year and I’m learning more and more everyday about minimalism💗
"what I could add to my life" AHHHHHHH, this is me, this is what I'm trying to change. resonated with me sooooo much, Thank you.
I am so glad I subscribed to your channel way back. Your videos bring so much value and joy. Not to forget, the calmness and the positive vibes we get from watching your videos! Thank you so much💕
Thank you for your kind words ❤ your support means a lot! Thank you
Another great video, something we all seem to need. I completely agree it's about the mindfulness in the approach and not about specific rules. I have a kid so not buying anything is not practically, but I'm definitely in a low-buy challenge that I created for myself.
Yes! We all have to adjust to our lifestyles and throughout the year ❤
Wow I really appreciate what you said about how when you're enjoying life with friends and family, you never really think about what you're wearing/how your hair and makeup looks like. This really resonated with me and will be something I think more about when I feel like spending mindlessly again. To be honest, I wasn't the best at the low buy challenge at the start of this year, but I do feel like now I am focusing more time/money on my health and helps me refocus my priorities from spending on material things. Thank you so much again for your videos, Sophie! 🥰❤️
I'm so happy this message resonated with you :) thanks for watching
wow really great content! exactly what I need at the moment for myself, overspending and waste of time browsing for useless clothes, watches and etc is just ridiculous. Thank you for your story :)
Yes!! Want to protect our precious time 🥰
Love this!! I hope more people will see this video. Awesome advice. I've learned that clutter really puts stress on me and makes me feel overwhelmed.
me too! feels free to live without clutter
I have been doing a low buy for awhile now and have decided that I really don't need or want all that much stuff. It helps when you keep in mind a long term goal like for me moving overseas and cringing and really deciding what I want to take with me and how much I really will leave behind and will be getting rid of. It also helps to save money for big purchases are oral surgery and braces for my daughter. Thanks. Take care and stay safe.
Wonderful insights as always, Sophie. I especially love the "desert island" question. I've been embarking on a similar journey myself this year, falling in and out of discipline. It's yielded many, many reflections on how I live my life. Thanks for this!
Glad you can relate Linda 😍 thank you
This video is one of the most important I've watched.
At the beguining of 2019 I felt this urge to change my spending habits. I was no longer feeling the hype of getting new clothes or shoes, so I decided to not buy a single thing apart from food or gas to my car.. I ended up the year feeling proud and happy and realizing that I had quite an amount of clothes that I never wore. So 2020 came, along with the pandemic and I was leaving in joggers..I realized that I had to declutter my wardrobe because there were pieces that I would never wear again, some with 20 years and I had gain weight as well due to my menopause. I saved so much money..And this year I didn't buy either and decluttered some more..and I still ask myself how is it possible to acumulate so much..I feel so light..
Thank you for sharing your experience..
Much love from Portugal!! 🤗🤗
listening to your voice or watching your videos makes me calm when anxiety hits me. much love to you ❤
❤️
This is so true that in our best moments we never think about how our dress or make-up looks like!
:) yes. I try to remind myself of this
I just love your calm vibe. Whenever I watched your videos, I got knowlege and want to become minimumlist person and still trying. Thanks Sofie😍
I'm still trying too :) we all are on this journey! thank you so much
Yes I have been doing this low buy challenge with you and I must say I have undergone a huge shift in my mindset and this challenge made me realise how much I have been overspending and adding unnecessary clutter to my life... Thank you for motivating to do this challenge.. I can't emphasize enough how much this has changed my life.
I'm so happy to hear that 🙏😍 let's keep it going!!
This video is so calming. 💙
I don't have a big problem with buying, but last year I found myself trying to buy happiness here and there. I'm trying to think it through and not let it become a problem
Thanks for watching. I think even getting to the point of recognizing it is huge.
Hi Sophie😊 i used to love designer things but when i discovered your channel my life really changed i am now more happier living a simple life.
thank you so much Sophie❤️
I am so happy to hear that my videos are helpful :) it always helps me to have motivation from others as well ❤
I LOVE this video. The secluded island question was very helpful and eyeopening for me.
Thanks so much. Good stuff! Very transparent and refreshing 👍🏻
🥰 thanks William
I really needed to see this. Thank you posting this
Hi Sophie! Yours is my favorite channel on UA-cam 🌻 Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Thank you so much Bianca ❤🥰 that's so sweet of you
Hi Sophie I was thinking recently about how you are doing with this challenge. I am so guilty because I bought a number of things since the start of the challenge but I truly am more mindful of what I buy now. I too had to stop and admit that I had an addiction just like you. The things I bought were nothing expensive but to be honest with you i use to live comfortably without alot of them so i had to stop and be more mindful❤
Your videos are so inspiring. You still look great no matter how many clothes you own. Love your style!
Thank you so much Tamara 🥰
Glad you realized you don't need all that stuff. Pass the word to others. Hope you fixed your problem and are back to normal. I been through it and now and then I get the urge to buy stuff again but resist.
Yess absolutely
Thank you for sharing, and I love the atmosphere of this video. ❤
Thank you for making this video. I love your voice so much!
I've learned to only buy what I need, not what I want. Even though at times it's challenging, thank goodness I can still resist some temptation. 😊😉
Great video of reminder x
Thanks. Take care.
Yes we fall in and out of discipline but it takes time to change
@@MalamaLife I do agree with you on this. Time heals, time change
You are made of pure calm and grace. :)
I have been a shopaholic for decades and this year i have been able to be in a low buy more mindful with what I spend my money on. 🎉 it’s very freeing now to want something anymore
I have given 7 boxes of stuff to the Goodwill. I have too much of so many items. Every time I get the desire to shop I remind myself how much stuff I have in my home and will it go to another box to donate. Take the time to read, visit neighbors or go for a walk. That is better for me. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Yes! It's really helpful to remind ourselves of all the things we already have before we shop again. Thanks Bonnie
this came at such a good time, thank you for sharing
I became a minimalist by getting married. At first I had 50% of the bedroom closet. Then 25%. Then my stuff was moved to the hall closet. Then the entryway closet and a rack in the garage. Happy Wife Happy Life.
😁👍 whatever works for you and your wife right?
😮
Your story is so relatable to me. Thank you For Your perspective and journey.
❤ thank you Mary! Glad you can relate
Amazing video and everything you said about creating memories instead or buying stuff is so true!! 😘
Thanks Bobbi :)
Another great video✨ Thank you Sophie 🥰 I have been spending more consciously ever since the year started and I can honestly say that it has change my mindset on everything! Taking the time to think about something rather than just spontaneously buying an item has saved me so much money! Also I realized that I’d rather spend on trips and adventures rather than gather things that will end up causing clutter in my house. Such a beautiful realization. 🙏
Thanks Stephanie. It's really cool because it feels like we're going through the changes together :)
@@MalamaLife It certainly feels that way! 🥰
Love listening to you and think about your reflections. You’re an inspiration for me! 😊greetings fron West Palm Beach. Have a great week ✨
Thanks Julia ❤😍
I found keeping busy has helped me with my low buy/ no buy this year. By having something to do, I don’t have time to be spending.
Yes! I feel that it helps a lot too
I used to have a lot of dresses in my closet and actually I did not even know some dresses, after watching your videos one day I decluttered my closet and donated many of my dresses that I actually did not use,now I have some 10 dresses but feel like I am having many, before I used to have so much but felt like I have nothing to wear.Thank you so much your thoughts have changed my life completely
I am so happy to hear that! Doesn't it feel great to only have your favorite dresses in your closet
Thank you! This was really helpful. I am going to have a destination wedding in a month and I found myself buying stuff that I am going to wear only once! I kinda felt that I had my reasons to buy these and now I feel like I am now looking forward to buying other stuff for after the wedding!!!! I will for sure do the low-buy challenge and I will take a look at the questions that you mentioned and my answers to them when I want to buy something. :)
I am so in this challenge ! Thank you so much Sophie ❤️ I really needed this
I know I say this in all your videos but they are just sooooo good 🙏🏻🥰

Shopping was out of my character as well....
So...
Thanks..

I have been trying to watch many different videos on this topic. Having a shopping addiction , trying to declutter, letting go. When I had moved out of my parents house and in with my bf I had soo much stuff. That was a year ago. Even though I've gone through and decluttered some.. I've realized that some of the stuff I had bought and never been touched had been sitting there and sitting there for years. My bf doesn't understand this shopping problem and even helped me get rid of some things. He's patient with me but I don't want this to become a bigger problem one day. I know it's just stuff but when I was packing up to move out on my own.. I started crying throwing some of the stuff out. I didn't even understand why. I'm so lost about this whole shopping addiction and why it's such an emotional thing for me.
Sophie, Most people get addicted to shopping, it's so easy today online and
Convenient. In England you can get most
Itam's from the charity shops. I get most
of my clothes for £1 two £5 sterling
and you can get smart designer if you
look hard enough. Great video!.
Thanks Peter! 😁
Thank you for inspiring me! After watching I keep thinking if I bought those things bc it has a purpose or just me wanting it. I'm also mindful and asking myself if I will use it for the next months considering I'm just staying at home
It's always good to reflect and think twice :) glad it was helpful
Hi Sophie thank u so much for this inspirational videos.. I'm really got to online shopping addiction.. I keep on watching ur videos to remind me to slow down and practice minimalism.. Your always be my mentor❤️🙏🏻
I hope one day u will publish ur own book..
Keep safe.. Be positive
Love from Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭😘
I'm so happy that it's helpful for you. Happy to share my story 😊🥰
Hi from Singapore! Thanks for creating videos to reflect on ♥️
Looking good. It's sort of counseling for those who are suffering from shopping addiction. Sometimes the required and vital thing are missed as one is spending all money in unwanted things. Its rightly an addiction which should be stopped. However nice video, very much informative. Stay safe and healthy. God bless.
Thanks for your new video 😍 it’s a bit off-topic but could you perhaps make a video on no-heat waves? Your hair always looks nice, shiny and slightly wavy in some videos - love it
Good timing as I’m now going to do the low buy challenge for 12 months as need to stomp out my shopping habit. I have plenty of ‘things’ I could upcycle or find a new way to use, and maybe too much of (clothes), so to help me reach my savings goals quickly I’m not buying anything for a while.
love upcycling :)
Thank you for your video! I appreciate it a lot❤
I am satisfied with what I have. I don't need more and I am happier that way 😊
Your videos are great with great messages, 😊God bless you 🙏🏾
Thank you so much 😊❤
This is so great, thank you for this video ❤️
Thanks yuly❤
I do not have plenty of clothes that I have to change every time but I learned and am used to it and learned that I don't have to be competitive with others in wearing my favorite clothes. And the important thing is that I wear my clothes neatly and comfortably.
I realized recently that i have a problem with shopping as well and you actually explained it really well..I was constantly thinking about what can my add to my closet or to my kitchen. I realized how bad consumer I have become and this problem was the root of why I was so unhappy and never satisfied. When i found your channel and started watching your videos..my life turned over in a week. I got rid of soooooo many clothes, cosmetics, make-up and etc. that I have accumulated over the past years and i feel so much better. Now I am somehow more focused on more meaningful things, very very mindful about how i spend my free time and my money. I feel less stressed. You truly inspire me to live slowly and enjoy each moment. Thank you Sophie!
I am so happy to hear that! Sometimes we just need those reminders to stop us in our tracks and re-evaluate everything. I'm so happy that you found what's tilly important to you
@@MalamaLife I am happy as well and forever grateful that i found your channel Sophie! You are one of the few reasons I am changing and getting better each day! Keep doing what you love and inspire people!

A shopping addiction is a big problem of girls, I think.
Your voice is beautiful and thank you for sharing meaningful topics of slow living and habits ❤
Last night, I was talking to my husband about me not wanting to buy anything these past few weeks..which is not so me especially when I really feel down, I used to buy things (online or not) to somehow lessen my sadness and uplift my mood..I told him, perhaps, it is because I already adapt a lot from watching your videos and I believe, it's a good thing.. 😊 Material things should not define our happiness.
yes!! you said it so well
Me too! I’m addicting to shopping when it comes to skincare or fashion or accessories. 😅 now, I just want to be a minimalist.
Yep I definitely developed an addiction due to depression, low self esteem, and boredom during the pandemic and on and off the last year. Selling what I can and going to be minimal in terms of online shopping for the time being.
Found your channel a few days ago and I've been binge watching lol 😂 your voice is do soothing and your content is exactly what I like to watch.thsbk you so much for making these videos and keeping my evenings occupied lol xx
