      @@TappPlumbingthis video was VERY helpful to me EXCEPT that 1.) the Allen key required for my set screw was a larger size (cold side). The hot side's set screw appears to be jimmied because my Allen key cannot get any grip. Is it time to call the plumber?

    • @TappPlumbing
      @TappPlumbing  3 місяці тому

      @@UnderDog1911 That depends on the time verses money equation. If you can’t get the screws out it is gonna turn a little more time consuming and you need to have new handles also . Either the screws will have to be drilled out or the handles will have to be sawed off.

    I particularly appreciate that you took the time to mention plugging the sink drain before starting any disassembly. There's nothing more aggravating than dropping a small part and helplessly see it fall into the drain. It's happened to me but only once...

    +1 on the positive comments. Excellent instruction that worked perfectly ... turning a DIY project (with the normal 'trial and error' risk) or a $$ plumber bill (if you're not the DIY type) into a flawless 10-15 minute fix, all in. When you call Delta for a replacement cartridge be sure to request seats and springs too. Delta will send a new cartridge(s) for free under lifetime warranty but I had to run to HD for the seats and springs because I didn't know to ask for them.

    1. My handle took some strength to get off. Dont worry if you have to pull hard
    2. Take a pic of the stem before/after taking it out.
    3. Home depot lists the part as a "stem" and not a cartridge, just so people dont get confused.
    There is part RP255513 and 255513-3. Not sure what the difference is. They are the same skew# at HD.

    The only thing I may add…
    I apply a small amount of
    Plumber’s silicone to the O-rings
    before reinstalling. I have accidentally
    torn the new o-ring .

    Very HELPFUL video. 🥇 love it’s straight to the point. Followed it today to fix a drippy Delta faucet. Easy! Most time consuming was driving to hardware store. Note to future self: Do not throw away the fixture box…or at the very least write down the model number, goofball! (Speaking to myself there.) The faucet was installed in a new bathroom in 2017 so I was fairly confident the valve and seat/spring model numbers at the store would work. They did.

    Saved me from having a COMPLETE meltdown trying to seat that spring and gasket! My tip is I used a wooden popsicle stick n small screwdriver to push down on the gasket/spring and then push/slip the other side in. Maddening how something so simple can be so hard… without the special tool:).

    Wow Wow Wow!!!! Thank you so much for this video!!! Our plumber was going to charge us $306 to fix our leaking faucet!!!!! The guy said it needed a new cartridge - huh?!??!! All it needed was a new seat/spring. I watched this video twice, went to the hardware store, and changed out the seat/spring MYSELF!!! The part was just $3.89!!! Ha! I told my husband I'm in charge of fixing leaky faucets from now on - LOL!!!!

    Just did the install and all went well, thanks to your clear notes and saying which cartridge to buy. One note is the lever stopper comes in the package with the cartridge and you need to install it (a little white plastic piece before you screw down the cartridge with the outer ring, this keeps the levers from turning more than a quarter turn if you want that instead of a full half turn. I also wonder if just new springs and seats would stop the leak as apposed to buying new cartridges. My cartridges did not come with the spring and seats, Lowe’s sells them separately called Dankco repair kit for Delta scald guard 80465. 😅 so awesome to do this myself! Thanks a ton!

      Thanks so much for your input! If your faucet was only dripping from the spout changing the seats and springs would eliminate the problem almost every time.
