    all you had to replace was the spring and washer, you didn't need to change out the stem.

    Thank you so much for making this video. Your verbal instructions were quite detailed, however, there were key points in the video that could not be seen on the video. The angle prevented a direct view of the faucet, specifically, the faucet replacement. The location & placement of the spring & washer was perfect. The camera angle was directly above the washer, close up, & very clear. Great view. Thank you.

    Hello Jim and Mrs Vincitore, thank you for making your video. I replaced both of my washers& springs today on my kitchen Delta glass knobs. I had all the necessary tools to do the job. My boyfriend did the job and we took one set of washer/spring to my local Ace Hardware store to make sure I was buying the correct size. I found two pks of two washers/springs. One was a Delta product and the other one was an Ace Hardware product. The Delta 4 pk (2 washers & 2 springs) was $8.99 and the Ace 4 pk (2 washers & 2 springs) was $3.89. I bought the Ace product. Exact match to what needed to be replace. I also saved the receipt and part of the package for future needs. Thank you again for making this very helpful video.

    One of your best tools is the camera in your smartphone. (The flashlight app is also handy.) Use the camera to take photos at each step of the disassembly. Reference the photos during reassembly.
    At 1:29, your video shows the original orientation of the valve (before you disassembled it). I suspect this was originally configured backward from convention (more on this below).
    At 11:03, your video shows that you installed the valve 180 degrees off of the original orientation.
    What is the correct rotation to turn a valve on/off? For standalone gate valves and stop valves, turning the valve counter-clockwise turns on the water flow. Is this how all valves should be configured? Think about lever handles. The levers for the hot and cold water valves are on the opposite side of their respective valve stems. The cold water handle is to the right of its valve stem and the hot water handle is to the left of its valve stem. This results in opposite rotations to turn on the water flow.
    - To turn on the cold water flow, pulling the lever toward you results in a clockwise turn.
    - To turn on the hot water flow, pulling the lever toward you results in a counter-clockwise turn.
    By convention, the rotation should not depend on what type of handle sits on top of the valve stem. Whether you have a lever handle or a knob handle should matter. The convention is to configure them as described above. This is very intuitive for lever handles, but some people get confused when using knob handles.
    There is no right or wrong answer. Either way works. So feel free to throw out convention and configure the valves the way you like.

    How to tell the seat/spring is bad or good? After turn shutoff valve, if still drip, do you need to turn off main valve?

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  10 місяців тому

      sometimes if you wiggle the shut handle around it will quit dripping. i think there is a rubber washer behind the handle that could be replaced. i'm dealing with the same thing in an upstairs sink...i just turned off the cold a few days ago. i think i'm gonna mess with it today. replace it with a compression turn off, they work great and you can install them without solder. i was told europe has been using them for years, and cars are full of compression fixtures. i had a plumber put them on my basement sink, took him ten minutes. i'm guessing, but you probably have to turn off the main before messing with the shutoff.

      I was telling a salesman at Lowes about it, a appliance repairman was standing right next to him. Repairman told he that he's been working on dryers for 30 years and never heard of it. That's the power of UA-cam.

    How do you fix if one tap is on the other leaks and vice...

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  5 років тому

      Hi Darrell! I'm not sure what you mean. But replacing the big insert, and the spring and black rubber washer, should fix all the leaks. That's the only parts inside mine. You don't have to fix both sides, you only need to fix the side that leaks. I usually go to Lowes/Home Depot and other hardware stores and talk to the plumber. You might have to ask around to find the plumber. He is usually an older retired plumber fella who is now working at Lowes. If you can, take a picture of your faucet and show it to him, they might be able to figure out the brand, like Delta, Pella, etc. If it's a faucet that has a DIVERTER, check out the videos I did on that, I posted those just a month ago, may 2019. Thanks for watching! Jim

    Standard rule for any project is that you pay attention to what position part was in during removal process. But, I think not doing so is a mistake we all tend to make frequently.
