The bots, in another bit of ironic reference to history, are likely hidden in massive tunnel systems, mining away at the planets' ore rich crust and rebuilding themselves in underground geothermally powered factories.

This was actually a really good, concise, and digestible history lesson.
What it sounds like to me is the automatons and the illuminate ally together and hits us on two fronts while we try to move on the bugs

Not even 24 hours had to pass for this video to be proven correct.
While I can not speak for the military of Super Earth (because if I was part of it and spoke about its doctrines on a public channel, I would be tried and executed for treason in no particular order), but as far as I can gather, from the general state of disarray on planets being liberated or defended, the SEAF (Super Earth Armed Forces) are extremely under-equipped and undertrained for the tasks they are expected to perform (endless hordes of giant insects or literal war machines building war machines), despite having briefly been equipped with IFVs and numerous pelican transports (which often dot the landscape as burning ruin) - with scattered documents (usually with the blood stains of the owner on them) implying that defense budgets in the periphery systems (eg: ones bordering or currently being active conflict zones) having had between a 21% to 26% reduction. Implies that that Super Earth, as a hail-mary move, are putting almost all their efforts and resources into the Helldiver program.
Which has languished for the last hundred years of not having any active conflicts or hotspots to deal with, budget cuts, mothballing and reductions were inevitable, bringing such a force back up to full combat strength and gear will take time, which super earth does not have. which is why we only recently were re-issued combat walkers that were prevalent in the last war (see helldivers I).
Considering that the 'training' of a "elite helldiver" is roughly 5-15 minutes (depending on how slow the cadet is), whereas helldivers in the previous conflict were drawn from the experienced veterans and riot police of the unification era and you have a very very very bleak modern military picture of the Helldivers universe and it is a miracle it is performing as well as it actually is. - Sometimes just throwing bodies at a problem seems to work. But it is rather depressing.

Anyone remember the cloaked ships orbitting above the automaton's planets? and the evidence of automatons contacting outside forces? think on it. either way lets finish the next order, no matter what happens we're all in this together.
it would be a completely different degree of dificulty to manage MP missions where Automaton control is set more in a civilian domain like a metropolis, where guerrilla tactics like IED's and ambush tactics within a more urban warfare centric type of combat.
Where the helldivers would have to manage their advance by cleaning their path square by square, even engage in CQB clearing operations even.
it would add a completely different layer of difficulty and mastery of warfare into the helldiver soldiers.
We may get urban missions, eventually. Defense missions in the first game were played in smaller maps of the ruined cities. Those were the best maps to farm research points in. It would be great if defensive missions in HD2 had a distinct feeling from the offensive missions.
Might be a bit of a reach to connect the victory over the bots to Bush’s infamous speech but otherwise yeah, I wouldn’t put it past Joel to pull a “you thought it was a ceasefire but it was me! Dio!”

That would be an absolute nightmare to deal with. The weapons and tactics that are effective against one are often almost useless against the other.

That bush by the mission accomplished screen was posted a lot on the helldivers discord. Most definetly the bots have retreated and rebuilt on the outer galaxy or communicated and teamed with the illuminate which are known to be negotiators. Everyone celebrated like it was the end of ww1 or ww2. Many people feel aimless without a worthy fight such as the bots. Either or we're getting new toys to play with from super earth to prepare.

I knew what that poster was the moment I saw it. I warned the people I play with regularly that it is a sign of a very long and drawn out slog. Currently the bots have returned and are pushing Cyberstan.
Imagine the defense mission but you have to watch for suspiciously robot looking colonists because if they reach the extract door the count resets because he kills everyone you just extracted. Absolutely brutal
Perhaps the automatons might be working with the Bugs to help spread them to different planets and distract Super Earth. There is mystery of how the bugs are able to travel from planet to planet, and while this could be easily explained by Super Earth setting up their farms and the bugs getting loose, or the bugs having their own way to spread, it could be the automatons sending some bots over to bug space and helping spread them around to take up Super Earth's resources.

I think I understand. Slowly the helldiver forces will be turned into the classic cyborgs of the original game by the bots. But what about those Supreme Aliens from the first game? Maybe they become Super Earth's advocates, but after the cyborgs are defeated with their help, they turn against the humans for some "righteous" reason.
