I think one think that is major that you missed is that the Amlactin is 12% lactic acid, which is the major keratolytic. The Cerave does not disclose its lactic acid percentage but it’s like the 7th ingredient (below salicylic acid) whereas it’s the second ingredient of the Amlactin. Personally I think it’s apples and oranges. If you’ve got really awful KP, the higher percentage does a better job exfoliating. If your KP is mild and you want some of the skincare effects, then the Cerave is better. Personally as someone with pretty severe KP on my legs, Cerave didn’t cut it.
yes CeraVe didn't do anything for me neither...
Understood, thank you! 😍🥰👏🏽
Thanks for the review
👏
Thankyou for sharing!
Dr Dray, gurrrlll, I cant thank you enough for your effort to share transparent, effective, affordable advice.
Also and most important I’m grateful and heart-warmed for your help with my picking disorder that had gotten worse during quarentine. I messed up my skin so bad and your videos really saved me from the compulsion to mess it even more.
Now I’m in control, seing a derm and never giving my sunscreen a rest.
Much love, Juliana
Brasil loves u 🇧🇷
Yes, love the comparisons and how you work so hard to help us get the best bang for our (ever shrinking) buck! I really love the CeraVe products of the store knock off of the same thing. You have literally changed my life!
I absolutely love amlactin. Yes I have KP on my arms and it does help with continued usage. However I started using it on my entire body and the results are great. My skin stays hydrated and smooth and soft because of the exfoliation. I can skip shower sugar scrubs if I want. Or you can keep them. But it’s very nice over all
Prefer Amlactin. CeraVe SA lotion was moisturizing, but didn't slough my rough patches as well. I also like that the Amlactin formula is very simplified with fewer, but still effective ingredients. Think the 12 percent lactic acid in Amlactin also makes the formula more effective than CeraVe.
Dr. Dray, thank you for continuously educating your subscribers about ingredients in skin and body care. I learned something new today!😊
dr dray I have been following you for years and I love you, I love this kind of video (product battles) it helps people to better understand where to orient themselves and not to spend unnecessarily money since there is a wide choice and ignorant people in medicine and chemistry dont know how to read the ingredients ... keep it up these videos have potential, a hug from Italy
To be subscribed to your channel has been the one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made …. Seriously. I love you Dr. Dray, thank you for your videos.
Just started this video, really excited to learn. I have been using the Costco-sold AmLactin for 10 years now.
This is SO relevant for me in the moment. I am just finishing my bottle of Cerave SA, and bought a bottle of the same Amlactin you’re using here!! I am starting to use the Amlactin, but I don’t like the smell of it. I think over all, I like the Cerave better. Thanks for this video. Keep comparing, please! I like these!
Hi there. I hated the smell too…at first. Then I read the bottle (😂😊) & it says to shake well before use. So I started doing that and the yucky fragrance is greatly reduced.
Loving that new series of "one product vs another". Have a great day Dr. Dray 🙂
Thank you! You too!
@@DrDrayzday Thanks for the reply.
@Amber Maillet Yes. There are just so so many skincare products & each day new products are launching.
Love the VS vids also!
Yasss this is what i need.. 🙏 please do more about versus between great products..
Love ya so much Dr.Dray,
i've been watching your video for a long time, although sometimes I'm struggling with the language since i'm not fluent in english
by the way keep on educate us
Love this type of video!! Thank you for your hard work, much appreciated!! 💖💖💖
Thank you!! I’ve always gone back and forth between these two products along with the blue and white amalactin! I love them both but always curious to see which one would
Be better
Amlactin has been great for me and it really improves my skin with continued use. Its the 12% lactic acid that is the most beneficial for my kp and dry skin
Thank you, so informative! I recently have this condition at 75 yrs young, on my forearms, I had it on my thighs when I was 30, at the time the dermatologiste called in all her colleagues in the office to come and look at my legs; all of them peered down at my thighs; they didn't have much info at that time, no suggestions how to deal with it. So I appreciate your video. Tomorrow I'll be going out to buy some Ceravie!!
Thank you for for your review !! You always come through with good advice and good information.
I love all products from the Cerave SA line. Theyre so helpful with my body acne!
Love your videos and they’re super informative. Would you tell if eucerin advanced repair lotion is better than these for KP?
Hi Dr Dray I have been buying more Cerave since watching your vids but I would love a comparison to the generic versions of products. I tend to purchase some of my Cerave for a store brand esp nowadays. Do you have videos already on this? Thanks much and have a great day! 🌸
This is perfect timing since my dermatologist just told me to try the Amlactin. Thanks!
This is exactly what I need right now at the beginning of summer! Thank you so so much 💕
Thanks Doc....
I started using SA cream and my skin is in heaven. It's so calm and soft. I couldn't find anything that worked. I even use it on my face, and my skin is extremely soft and clear.
I owe you at least a dinner for making my life wonderful again.
Many thanks ❣️
Thank you so much for helping and making the video about KP🌸🌸🌸
Thanks Dr Dray, have used both and have had better results with the Amlactin I believe.
Hi Dr. Dray - longtime subscriber and appreciator! Have you seen instances where inflammation from KP leads to scarring/permanent redness? Are there compounds/treatments other than retinol that could potentially help with reducing such pigmentation?
I have not tried the amlactin but can say I’ve been using the cerave SA for about a year now. Using the neutrogena body clear scrub and the cerave SA lotion has gotten my KP well under control. I alternate products so I’m not using them both in the same routine.
Love your videos, vlogs, shop with me etc. Incredible how you have passion to make videos everyday, edit and upload. I’m happy that I found your channel, you are gem ❤️
I so appreciate this video. I have both products on my counter. My preteen daughter struggles with KP on her face and body (and both products reduce on the body). Her face is soo stubborn to treat and the products are too harsh, poor kid. Will look at your facial rec’s. Have a beautiful day!
Hello Dr. Day,
Thank you for this vid. How do you feel about mixing the two products together? I do this alot with my facial syrums.
I really love Alpha body lotion. It contains alpha hydroxy acid and it stated how much! It makes my bumpy, dry skin so smooth. The only thing is that I definitely need to apply at night as wearing it during the day makes my skin more sensitive to sun.
Do you use it every night or every other?
For those who find the fragrance of Amlactin off-putting, try shaking it up before use. I noticed that it says to do that on the bottle and once I started shaking it up the yucky smell was barely noticeable.
I just use this tonight for the first time and was like wth. It smells terrible, I hope the shaking helps because I can't do stinky smells.
Ohhhhh I’ve been hesitating buying it. Many years ago I tried an off brand AmLactin, and I was hoping AmLactin would smell better but the comments about the smell have made me scared to try it again.
@@ctran1955 In my opinion it smells like ammonia. I just put it on before bed and eventually go nose blind. Also if you layer it with another lotion you can't smell it.
i just did that with my bottle and the smell isnt as strong compared to if u do shake it. The smell is still there but it goes away quick and its faint
shake or no shake, ..still smells like ammonia 😵🤢. worked for a few weeks on ny arms then stopped? and Cera ve is overrated imo
I find that the CeraVe SA Lotion works great on my sensitive skin. I swear it has been what has helped clear up my back acne. Love that product!
It is a great one
This 👏
CeraVe made my skin turn dark on my forehead. I know it sounds stupid but I noticed it when I started using the product so I stopped
For your back, try dry brushing. I was initially doing it just to improve blood flow, but inadvertently cleared up my back.
@@frozengamer3030 did you wear sunscreen daily?
Dear dr. Dray I love and appreciate your channel so much, it's one of the very few reliable and genuine skin care products review channels I visit 😘😘😘
Love the Cera Ve rough and bumpy It works so beautifully. Can’t compare to Amalactin as I have never tried
I love that you’re comparing similar products!
Amlactin rapid relief (pump bottle with blue text) has ceramides and is a smidge stronger than the green. I really like it!
Thank you for sharing your expertise with us
I use both. I'm a fan of the Amlactin for my very rough skin on my feet. Being diabetic, it's super important to maintain good foot health. Cracks or fissures from dry skin are portals for bad infections. The down side is that the Amlactin doesn't smell great. Reminds me a lot of the Alpha Hydroxy 12% cream. I'm guessing that the lactate is the item with the odor. I also use Cerave everywhere else, including my face. Just keep it away from your eyes. I alternate Cerave SA with The Ordinary Retinol in Squalane and their Natural Moisurizing Factors with HA. This helps with both sloughing dry skin and retaining moisture (Cerave SA) and building up collagen (The Ordinary Retinol in Squalane and the moisure with hyaluronic acid). I really love Cerave because they are high quality with decent price points. The Ordinary products are the same. Very high quality ingredients in base serums to aid in readily absorbing their priducts. The Ordinary has both online customer support and phone support to help you know which products can be combined together so you are only treating what you need. I've been dealing with chronic medical conditions requiring a lot of procedures and surgeries over the last 4 years. My skin looked like I was way older than 61. I started using both Cerave products and The Ordinary products about a year ago. My skin has shed about 20 years. I can tell the difference if I skip a day or two. My skin starts flaking again; rosacea flares; and my pores on my nose start plugging up and dilating. I adore the Cerave creamy cleanser that foams up with water. I do an oil cleanse first, then follow with Cerave. Last, I use The Ordinary AHA/BHA peel. It's a chemical peel that takes 10 minutes. Really does an excellent job of removing dead skin. And don't forget your sunblock! I use Elta MD tinted because I can use that alone over moisture, then a light, everyday makeup.
YESS!!! This video is for kp arms. Thanks Dr, Dray. 😁😁😁😁
thanks for watching
Hi, love your videos. What do you think of the Dr. Organic body lotions?
I’ve used cerave for my KP, it made my skin super smooth and got rid of the bumps but it didn’t do much for the dark pigments of the bumps.
I prefer the AmLactin since I have kp on a large portion of my body and the cerave has a warning to not use it on large areas of the body due to salicylate poisoning.
Thank you for your videos of I’m learning so much each and every day from you thank you 🙏🏻
Is the Amlactin good for pimple prone skin for the body? Safe for private area too?
thank you reminding about cerave sa serie, need to go get bottle of cleanser, however sa lotion is really thick. and thank you for your videos - my favorite channel
Such a wealth of information thank you - like our very own encyclopedia
Love this series Dr Dray. Here in Spain we don’t have full Cera Ve range, including that product. For now I use amonium lactacte at 12 % and urea at 20%. Sells under a variety of brand names, such as Medigel or Lactum. Just in case any Spaniard is checking your videos too 🥰
Next time I'm in Spain I'll check them out.
Always the products you want that are missing, am I right?
We got the SA wash and lotion in Germany, but I want the SA bar soap!
Thank you Elena, I always check comments for European versions, Cerave especially, in my case Spain too.
Graciaaaasss estaba buscandolo 😭😭😭
I just purchased a 20% urea gel/serum and its incredible. Have you been using both products together? Ive been an amlactin user forever, and i love exfoliation products, but dont wanna attack my skin too much. (Though it often needs it)
Thanks Dr Dray, great information 👍..best wishes
Thanks for the video Dr. Dray! Coincidentally, just today I saw some articles circulating that parabens may increase breast cancer risk in black women. I saw your previous videos debunking myths on parabens and was curious about what the evidence suggests for women of color and/or if any new studies have been done (or whether these new articles are not based on solid evidence). Would love to see a video on this!!
Caucasians as well on some studies although the scientific ones are difficult to understand. It has been too long since my last statistics course.
Not just Dr Dray but folks such as Lab Muffin and even The Eco Well channel have discussed the fearmongering from groups like the EWG about parabens and how it's created more problems than anything helpful.
As is my understanding the study that set all this off only looked at 20 women and even then it only showed the presence of parabens in the breast. We're a very long way from establishing that's the cause of anything. Even the author of that study admits to it being flawed and not saying what people think it says.
Thanks this Helps so much!
No joke, I was looking up this condition all morning and watched one of your old videos and then BAM you make this. I mean, you are a kind reader. Thank you for the video, it’s perfect timing!
Me too! Lol

These comparative videos are great! Can you do one comparing best body moisturizers for sagging skin. I'm assuming retinol is the best for this, but not sure - and if so, which product would you recommend. Thanks,
If you do a search, dr dray sagging skin, there are some videos. I don't know about the comparison type though. She does have a video on body retinols and so does The Budget Dermatologist.
Yes, Amlactin did sting when I used it on my body previously - uncomfortable. I do need something for my legs, especially the shins (dry area), which is why I will get the CeraVe SA Lotion in the future. At the moment, I'm just using CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion for that area (along with sunscreen).
I think Alba botanical has a moisturizer with SA in it. I love their lotions.
I think Alba botanical has a moisturizer with SA in it. I love their lotions.
Only if u have cuts, otherwise it doesn't burn
I have used both for at least 2 years. I found cerave helped a little bit more, it kept my skin feeling moisturized for longer and that helped diminish the "look" of KP on me. Amlactin definitely has a stronger smell to it and it did help me but it never made my skin feel moisturized for very long.
Which do you honestly think significantly improved your KP on your legs and body?? Making it smoother and softer overtime? Was it the Cerave or Amlactin? I want to know which one is better so I can purchase it. Idk if I should purchase one or both of them.
QUESTION ? I am using the CeraVe Sa Lotion and did notice an improvement in lower leg skin rather quickly ( about 10 days). I was concerned that the label mentioned not to use the cerave over large areas of the body ? Is it toxic ? I used on the lower leg and top of thigh. Thank you Dr Dray
I love the CeraVe SA cleanser for gentle exfoliation!! It works so well. I'll get the cream to trt for summer 😄
Hello, what is the best way to get extra collagen in the body? I'm thinking about trying the powder form first. I'm a new subscriber. Love your videos.😃
Thanks, Dr. Dray, for all your hard work and for putting out so many great contestants. In my experience using Amlactin in my nighttime routine on my neck in ten days, my creep skin got 50% better. And it’s not a joke. Try it yourself.
Hi I just planning to use Amlactin…i usually use RETINOL in the night skincare…but my doubt is can I use Amlactin moisturizer after Retinol for my dark neck??
In my experience, Amlactin works way better in reducing flare-ups.
I’ve used both for several months (not at the same time). Amlactin burns like heck and I never got used to it, but I was able to use cerave SA lotion all over my body without the burn and it didn’t break out my highly acne prone skin. It even looks good under make up both powder and liquid. But Amlactin did work faster for me. From what I understand, salicylic acid can “eat through” natural (like skin’s natural oil) & artifical oils far better than lactic acid can, so that was a great selling point for me since I used moisturizing body washes. Cerave is just so expensive. It usually $18 where I’m at and Amlactin is $12.
Personally, I love the Eucerin product with Urea as I find it just wears better on me. The feel is a little nicer and it’s fantastic. Just like the Zeroid facial cream. LOVE ! Have a great day and thanks for another great vid. See ya later. Rick
I use both! 😃
I love the Eucerin product too.
hi can i ask what the name of the eucerin product is? ty
@@nananyangii Eucerin Intensive Repair Very Dry Skin. I actually use it lightly on my Face a couple times a week (not under eyes). It's wonderful for neck, arms, decollette', legs, etc. Update: see below for the correct name of the product I use.
@@franameri6590 thanks! does it soak into the skin right away? the eucerin lotion i have right now is very sticky and stays tacky on the skin which i dont like
Thanks for this!!!
I use a 2% SA wash, followed by the Eurcerin rough relief (urea, lactic acid, ceramides) in the morning. At night, I use verse retinol body wash. This routine has helped keep my body acne and KP at bay.
Thank you! I might try this
This is so helpful thank you
Dr Dray, do you find that these are effective at exfoliating even though their PH level is too high for the acids to work? I’ve been reading reviews about how both products are around 5.5 ph, but the acids need a 3 to 4.5 ph range to be effective enough to actually exfoliate the skin. Those reviews instead recommended the CeraVe SA Cream in the tub because it had a lower PH over the lotion. I think a lot of this info was from the Paula’s Choice review, so do you think we have to buy a lower PH product of the exfoliation benefits are what we need rather than the moisturization?
Thankyou doctor,...! It means a lot ❤️
Hi Dr Dray, what's the best product or way to ameliorate exfoliative keratolysis? Thanks
For me the Cerave didn’t work as well. I definitely prefer the amlactin one.
Happy Monday, Doc!! 🌞
Same to you!
I sometimes use Amlactin on my face after I saw it in one of your videos. My face always feels so much softer the morning after. I can't overdo it, though. Made that mistake once and ruined my skin barrier 🙊 I use it once a week at most.
Thanks for sharing this sis❤
Thanks for the product comparison. Cerave is available in australia but Amlactin is only on amazon or iherb.
I gave up on tretinoin for my 4yo as we didn't see results after using it for 2yrs. We still use the sa lotion. I didn't realise it had that many benefits. Will try to be more consistent. He loves palmers coconut body oil and wants to use that every day, but it only moisturises.
Hi dr dray what are your thoughts on target and Walmart compare to cera ve products? Would they perform exactly like cera ve? Thank you
Happy Monday Dr Dray ... see you tomorrow x💙🤩
I love this series! Thank you for the breakdown!
Another awesome video 😍😍
Thanks Dr, Dray
Thanks Dr. Dray for the comparison. Amlactin stings slightly for me and is very stinky, so I threw it away after using it twice. Trying retinol body lotion now: Versed (great) and Paula’s choice (will be next; it is on sale currently)
Agree on that smell. It’s why I used up my bottle and never repurchased.
Agree! That smell is horrible!
I thought so too, but once I began shaking it up (it says to do this on the bottle) I noticed that the yucky smell was all but gone. 😊
@@Pamela-B interesting
I Personal Loy use the versed body retinol as well. I do love it and it’s so much more affordable than paulas choice. I also use the amlactin which I really enjoy. I guess I’m the weirdo who doesn’t mind the smell 😅
Thanks for the comparison. I’ve been using Amlactin (daily formula) to keep surface ingrown hairs on my legs away. Works well. I read they are cruelty free, but I could be wrong. I recently bought the intensive one (blue label) because of the ceramides. Only thing I don’t like is that it’s a little (naturally) stinky, but I can deal with that since I only use it at night and it’s really not that bad, plus I prefer fragrance free.
Both Amlactins have a smell when I apply to my skin and it is not pleasant but it does dissipate or I wouldn’t use it. I love the results so I still use. I like CerVe too but AmLactin seems to work faster! I’ve noticed too the smell only activates after applying it doesn’t stink straight from the bottle which makes me think it’s reacting to something in the skin. Maybe the lactic acid?
@@lisagoolsby3791 could not agree with you more about this! Love the Amlactin; I was surprised at how many reviews of their Rapid Relief lotion complained about the “noxious” scent… I mean, while it doesn’t exactly emit a pretty/pleasant scent, I have found any scent dissipates quickly when absorbed in the skin anyway!
I have had wonderful experiences with Amlactin (Daily relief and Rapid relief formulations at least) as it is relatively inexpensive & has worked quickly and thoroughly for my KP!
Did it help with the red bumps/dots where the hait follicles and the hair are coming through?
@@laurenpetro4807 Both varieties of Amlactin helped this issue for me; however, I feel Amlactin ‘Rapid Relief’ formula works better for me.
Also, combining Amlactin with CeraVe SA body wash has been a winning combination!
@@Lesaly I'd have to stop it 2 weeks before a laser tattoo removal.
Good afternoon! I did have a lot of stinging with Amlactin, but never had a problem with any CeraVe product, which I have been using for years.
You may at first but after awhile your skin gets used to it. At least for me. 😊
I love AMLACTIN !!! It has my skin looking extra smooth.
Does it brighten skin too?
doctor, can I use the Cerave one if I don't have KERATOSIS PILARIS but for just body hyperpigmentation because I didn't take care of my body for a long time. How long will it take to show results? And thanks for making all these videos doctor. I am learning skin care through your videos and able to use way more cheap and useful products to get good skin.

Thanks so much for the comparison of these two products. I do have this condition mainly in the bend of my knees and thighs. Both of these sound effective. My problem is consistency of use on my part. Life gets in the way, long days at work and coming home exhausted. I'm lucky to drag myself to the shower. Lol! But I know I should take the few minutes to do something for myself. Thanks, Dr Dray! I'm going to make an effort to use one of these every day. Happy Monday! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💙
I really love CeraVe. They have yet to let me down personally. Thank you as always Dr.Dray! you are forever my favorite!

Hi Dr. Dray, Do you have an opinion regarding Gold Bond Rough and Bumpy?
Thank you very much, and can it be used by dark skin
I just got the blue labeled amalactin. I love it. My skin is hyper sensitive but it really likes it. When i 1st put it on i was nervous. But its worked out a lot of the sensitivities since a few days ago
I haven't seen the amlactin sold anywhere in Europe. I use the cerave SA in the tub and sometimes use the lactic acid or glycolic acid from the ordinary as they are both very affordable
Hello Dr Drey can you use the Cerave one if you have eczema? Cheers from Australia
I think you would be the perfect person to publish a book detailing cosmetic ingredients in skin care, hair care & lotions, etc and their uses, purpose and derivatives. I've looked for years for a comprehensive book listing these types of ingredients. I have yet to find a good one. Please, please do it! 😃
There are sites that do list ingredients and their purpose such as incidecoder and cosdna. There are even ingredients libraries on sites like Paula's Choice and Dermstore.
I've tried so many lotions and what works best for me is the original Aveeno.
I prefer Eucerin advanced repair lotion which has urea and 3 ceramides and a little bit of lactic acid . I usually layer it on top of my 7% glycolic acid serum from the ordinary
I used Amlactin consistently for 2 years and it really dried out my skin. I found that I could not use it alone as a moisturizer -rather I needed to layer a moisturizer on top. I still purchase the product but I cannot use it daily.
I just started using the CeraVe lotion ( its been maybe 2 weeks) and I’ve already seen results. I’m using it mainly on the back of my upper arms as well as target areas on my thighs and knees. It doesn’t sting but you can definitely feel it on the skin, it doesn’t seem to absorb completely. I don’t mind as long as it works though!
Any update? Thanks!
