I’m team Vaseline! I’ve tried all 3 products and Vaseline is always my favorite for the thickness and the simplicity. It never irritates my skin snd stays on well and it’s the cheapest option! I use it at night around my eyes , around my nose(nostrils) and along my chin line and forehead. It keeps my skin so soft and smooth in those areas I’m usually dry
Me too. The less amount of ingredients the better it is for the skin. (Plus keeping up with ingredients that have potential reaction causing issues and trying to track the culprit down)
I’ve been slugging with good ole’ Vaseline since my early 20’s (41now), my dermatologist recommended it twice weekly when I started using tretinoin (still am) also twice weekly, after it dried/absorbed, right before I went to sleep. Have never stopped. I started using cerave healing ointment instead upon discovering you during early days of pandemic, and it’s probably been (although hard to choose) the single best advice. I have used the aquaphor too, and although lovely, I prefer cerave prolly because of the ceramides, which you also introduced me to! I live in Puerto Rico now, use it daily. AC is a must at night and I wake up dewy and fresh and hydrated and I love you for it and everything else you do for the world! Muah!
@@copeium400 I always have! However , I don’t have sensitive skin, it locks all ingredients in, so not for all, but my skin has loved it. Always sunscreen though , obvi.
I already had the Aquaphor at home. Thought it was “ok” but lacked something. After watching your videos on Cerave I went and bought the 3oz tube. After using it for a couple of days, I went and bought a tub of it at Publix (cheaper than anywhere else). I could slather Cerave everywhere it feels so good and comforting especially on the lips. So team Cerave all the way!
I love both products and find them useful for different reasons. I personally found that CeraVe is great for my face and body, as it is easer to spread, a little less greasy-feeling, absorbs into the skin, and gives you a supple look. It's a great daily ointment. However, over time Aquaphor demonstrated that it performed best for severely dehydrated/impaired skin, especially on my lips. It is so thick and very occlusive. Aquaphor sits on the skin and doesn't absorb fully the way CeraVe does on me, so my lips stay hydrated and soft throughout the day/evening. (I also love Vanicream Ointment for my lips.) CeraVe, on the other hand, worsens my lip condition. I wonder if it's because of the ceramides/HA... my lips are chapped to begin with, and those two ingredients are best used on wet/damp skin or it can dry your skin out even more (I think?). Anyway, definitely love both products and find them equally useful. CeraVe for daily use on everything, but my lips, for supple and dewy skin, and Aquaphor for severely dehydrated/chapped skin if you want to keep that part of your face/body moist and soft throughout the day/evening.
I appreciate your comment. I love CeraVe products but their healing ointment also dries out my lips. I’ve tried to figure it out. Your thoughts make sense. Thank you.
I am a flight attendant at a German airline and I've been using CeraVe Healing Ointment (thanks dr. Dray) for about a year now under my make up and over my serums/moisturizer. First it looks a little shiny, but when it is absorbed my face looks realy good and fresh. After a long flight my 'mature' skin looks so much better and doesn't feel dry.
@@origma99 I use a very thin layer under my foundation (tinted moisturizer)daily. No sliding around. My skin now has a hydrated glow, not shiny! Try it on a day you don’t care just to see how it goes.
@@origma99 I apply a thin layer under my serum foundation (The Ordinary), no powder, a little bronzer here and there, mascara... and that's it. It doesn't slide around. But I have to touch it up a little after some hours. It works for me and I don't know how it works for others. Just try it out 😉
I've been slugging my full body with aquafor since you recommend with the robe situation every other night and my skin is the softest it's ever been probably since I've been a baby! Great tip! Thank you 🙂 I also have been putting it near an under my eyes after I put Tretinoin and my eyes are no longer dry!
I love both as ointments, I prefer aquaphor in the winter especially on my lips as it is the thickest and longest lasting where I find CeraVe lighter and spreads thinner. Actually my favorite for "slugging"is the vanicream ointment, it has a really nice silicone slip to it, feels great going on:)
@@MP-hw6sx Maybe not-I’m a pale redhead and it has a little bit of a golden tan look on me. It’s pretty sheer, though, so I don’t think you’d get the cast you get from zinc oxide sunscreens.
i use both of these daily, so i can definitely tell a difference. cerave seems to "melt" more/faster so i use whichever one best suits me for the area i'm treating. cerave for eye area and aquaphor for lips/nose, but either for nails and wound/scab healing! love them both so much!
@@vvieites001 that’s because Cerave isn’t an occlusive. It can still sort of be used for slugging, and a lot of people love it. But in order for a product to be considered true occlusive, it must contain petroleum. But not everyone needs such a full spectrum occlusive like that
I've been using Aquaphor since I originally got samples from a doc. A tube lasts a long time and I'm almost out. Will try Cerave next, especially since my cleanser and moisturizer are Cerave products (and there are coupons.. ha ). BTW, Dr. D.... I started giving sunscreen etc... as part of birthday gifts. :-). Have a good weekend, stay cool. Thanks for everything you do!
👍👍👍I love the cera e ointment. I use it every night on my hands and feet. You mentioned this product a couple of years ago and now is a favorite. Thanks for all your hard work. 🥰😍❤️❤️❤️
I have been using Aquafor for years. It's always been my go to & I have used it for slugging my face & also my body. I am open to trying the CeraVe once I have completed my current jar of Aquafor. I can certainly understand the concept of getting more with the added ingredients in CeraVe. Afterall, I started using Aquafor over Vaseline because of its added ingredients!!
So love that dr dray doesn’t accept very many sponsors and honestly every thing she has recommended to change that i needed to fix my skin worked ! Literally she helped me get out of beauty purchase scams and saved me thousands I was spending on treatments and products that she taught me answers to questions about my skin and the products if anyone is new here look back she seriously deserves awards as a dermatologist and on UA-cam for real. If you notice other derms on UA-cam I won’t name but they have sooo many of the sponsors super expensive products that were previously ruining my skin. Thought I would never heal my skin until I found her channel can’t say enough good things thank you 😊 Andrea! Aka DR. Dray
All the times that dermatologist told me to use petrolatum on biopsies and skin cancer treatments, I wish they had explained as clearly as you why they were telling me to use it. I didn't understand why they recommended it and always thought other ointments were better. Now I will follow instructions better.
Ive been using Aquaphor for years and love it. I purchased a similar product by Walmart with the brand Equate which is supposed to be a less expensive version and it was so inferior to Aquphor.
I don’t slug but I’m Aquaphor all the way. It’s a HG for me for my lips and helping with any skin irritation. I know so many love Cerave but it just doesn’t work as good for me as Aquaphor.
Excellent content. I was first introduced to aquaphor a year ago for skin dermatitis on my hands(never had it before!). It's been a blessing and now use it a few times a week on my hands elbows... just for maintenance. Going to try cerave as an eye cream. Love that you went into detail of the strength of each product👍 Thsnks
I love the CeraVe ointment... it lasts such a long time. I’ve used 100% USP mineral oil, in the laxative section, as a first step in a double cleanse recently and loved it! So affordable. I did the second cleanse in the shower by the way.
I have noticed a difference in my under eye and eyelid area since slugging Cerave ointment over my gentle eye cream. I cannot tolerate any type of retinol in eye cream so for me, this is the next best thing.
I have been using Aquaphor on my severe chapped lips throughout the day for years. I wanted to try Cereve but noticed I had to reapply Cereve more often than Aquaphor. Both are excellent!
I find the cerave one gets absorbed into the skin way more quickly than aquaphor. I think I like the feel of cerave a little better but aquaphor seems to linger on the skin longer
I have both of these products as well as the CeraVe baby ointment. I think they're all very effective and soothing on the skin. I started out using CeraVe's formulas but they are so stiff and difficult to get out of the tube. :-( With arthritis in my hands, I switched to Aquaphor as it's easier to get out of the tube and I love using it on my lips, hands and feet. I personally don't "slug" my skin but rather use ointment everywhere else on the body. I also found that during the winter when I get chapped lips, Aquaphor helped to heal them whereas CeraVe's ointment was soothing but never went further to heal them. Thank you for the comparison. :)
I use Aquaphor lip products, both the immediate relief and one with spf and they are my savior for chapped lips. I agree aquaphor is better for chapped skin
I did this for two nights now because I felt my face needed some repairing since I wasn't using much skin care and my face looked dull. Didn't know it was called slugging. I am a CeraVe girl by the way.
Yes!! Dr. Idris in NYC calls it face basing. I prefer it to the 2 mentioned. I use to face, eyes, lips babies everything, especially after retinol. It has healing properties. It healed my kitchen burn💖
Thanks for the video. I’ve been using Aquaphor for years for healing tattoos & wounds in general. After watching your video, I went ahead and purchased Cerave. It’s so much better because it’s less greasy. It feels more like a lotion. I can only describe it as mixing petroleum with a Aveeno lotion. It makes my hands feel amazing.
Cerave Healing Ointment is my baby for sure. For the past year, I have used it nightly as an eye cream, lip balm and around my fingernails to prevent peeling. I am so surprised how much my dry lips have improved plus stopped my skin from peeling around my fingernail bed. But the big bonus for me, as 59-year-old women; is that I barely have any wrinkles around my eye area. I also used it recently to quickly heal wounds from a bad fall. Love this product and Dr Dray!
@@Amy_Stanmore Hi Angel, yes I do. I have used tretinoin every night for the past 2 years. This has made a big difference overall. However, I find that the Cerave healing ointment plumps up my skin around my eyes when I use it.
I put Cerave on while my skin is still wet from the shower. Less greasy that way. Way back, ladies put Crisco on their face at night. Same slugging concept, different product.
I love your videos! I have recently started adding Vaseline to my nighttime routine and it has made a huge difference. My skin gets so dry in the winter it cracks. I want to love cerave, but for some reason my skin breaks out in large cystic acne clusters whenever I use a product with hyaluronic acid ☹️
I'm team Cerave. I bought the jar from Wal-Mart and keep it by my bed. I put in on my eyes, neck, chest, arms and legs before going to sleep. I figured sheets are easy to wash. My only issue is keeping my dog from kicking it off.
I love the Cerave Ointment so much, especially when I "grease the orifices" for my differin adapalene, i also use it as an eye cream. Haven't tried the aquaphor tbh but I agree how easy the cerave is to spread on the face compared to regular petrolatum. Thanks for the detailed review!
@@kellyburnett1833 you put it on before so you don't get irritation in those places. Put around the eyes so it won't migrate to that area. She has a video on how to use retinols that discusses it.
I love both of these ointments, but I find that aquaphor gets along with my skin better and leaves my skin a bit softer overall. I find that aquaphor smooths my rough, scaly skin out better. Aquaphor is my miracle product ☺️
I have both and find that Aquaphor way outperforms on the lips. It just lasts and protects way longer. I haven’t tried body slugging so looking forward to giving it a go
Omg I’ve been waiting for this! I use both for my tattoos. Everyone raves about Aquaphor, and they’re really great but the Cereve ointment let alone their products in general, have always worked better for me. I found that the cereve ointment spread easier as well. Which for tattoo healing is a plus because extra tugging is just uncomfortable. So glad you did this!
Team Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I've never tried the CeraVe one, but both Vaseline and Aquaphor are horribly irritating to my skin (redness, swelling, burning). The Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment works and feels exactly the same as those, but doesn't irritate my skin at all. It is a hero product for me! I use it every day, and couldn't live without it. 👌🏻💜✨
Agree with your assessment. My Derm always recommends Aquaphor (burnt myself with a heating pad when I had pneumonia; when they burned off skin cancer, etc.). I bought many Cerave products based on your recommendations and I need to apply them more frequently including the ointment. I have an absolute ton of skin care products in my "inventory" including a 2-3 tubs of the Cerave ointment, several tubs of L'Occitane Shea Butter, many bottles of the Cerave pm treatment and tubs of the Cerave moisturizing cream (and also their soaps)... Several bottles of La Roche moisturizer and sunscreen. My old go to used to just be L'Occitane's Almond Skin Oil (love it) before you learned me on skin care -- LOL (you've been expensive girlfriend :) ). I got back on Retin A and Azelaic Acid (Rx from Derm) -- I see her PA and she forced me onto Differin for a couple of years (long story, but, I actually quoted you to the PA regarding she had previously told me I had thin skin from too much Retin A (between 30 and 55 when she would not refill me); now using the differin on my forearms (inventory of a dozen tubes of the stuff)... I am aging and have a lot of spots (and one ended up as squamous cell carcinoma recently). I need to reduce spots so I don't have so many to watch for skin cancer (shock face). Hoping that 5 year break in Retin A can be corrected :(!!! I grew up in the desert in NV. Last 20 years in the Pacific Northwest (so, not nearly the sun as I also spent a couple of decades in CA).
I heard that individuals who live in arid climates like you do have skin dryness issues when using products that contain hyaluronic acid, so I guess it has the opposite of intended effect.
You are simply the best and have truly changed my life for the better! I am more confident in myself and feel better about my use of products thank you your information! I have used all of these and my one issue is I get contact dermatitis right above my lip. But I am also very very prone to acne around the mouth. So while I would love to use an occlusive there for hydrating purposes I know better. I would LOVE for you to recommend a couple of the best hydrating creams for eczema that will not clog pores and cause acne like thick occlusives can! Thank you a million times Dr. Dray!
I know some people are allergic, but for me NOTHING compares to lanolin for holding in water loss in my chronically dry skin. I use it religiously on my lips and will do so forever. Lanolips 101 Ointment is pure heaven.
The CeraVe gave me small comodomes (aka)white heads) tried &tried to use it, but every time i used on my face I broke out.😯 Both work for 'body slugging'
Hi dr dray. I just wanted to tell you that cerave came out with a cleansing balm!! But I’m pretty sure that you can only get it on their website. Thanks for this informative video Dr Dray!!
Dr. Dray have you tried the new intensive repair essential oil balm from Eucerin? I've read good things about it and wanted to see what you thought. It seems like a nice list of ingredients that include urea, which I know you have spoken about very favorably before. BTW I'm definitely Team Cerave. 💕
I think she mentioned that eucerin one in a couple videos back, now I'm gonna go check...and she liked it...I just saw it in target and thought "has Dr Dray mentioned this" because I was interested also
I’m team Aquaphor! Thank you Dr Dray I also like the Eucerin healing ointment as it has a cream texture as it’s not as high in petroleum jelly as Cerave or Aquaphor!
Team CeraVe all the way. I’m in my 40s with adult eczema and extremely dry skin. My body barely produces oil. Even on my scalp. With that, I’m allergic to everything…fragrance, plastics (like in cheap shoes or sandals), grass, leaves, most detergent, some fabrics, etc…I even get a rash during fall pollen season. I digress. I’ve been “body slugging” after baths for years to hold moisture in and even use it on top of steroid creams for longer effect. Aquafor has always made me itch. Finally happy to possibly know why! CeraVe is the way to go for me!
Team CeraVe! It works wonders on my almost 70 y.o. skin. I've avoided using it around the eyes, but will add that to my ongoing skin care. Thanks for a great review!
Thank you Dr Dray! I have been using CeraVe healing ointment as a eye cream after watching this video. I could see such a difference in just a few nights of using it with the hydration and fine lines around my eyes and it is so cheap!!! Thank you!
Thank you for this comparison. I was wondering which one to use. I’m often confused as to the value of “inactive” ingredients. By definition, it would seem they make no difference?! But it sounds like they do matter. Maybe you can explain the difference between an “active” and the other ingredients on a list which are not included in the “active” list.
You could definitely verify what I’m saying from other sources, but my understanding is that “active ingredients” are those that in the US, the FDA considers to be a drug, and is attached to any specific health claims the product is making. “Inactive ingredients” are basically everything else. So an example would be in sunscreen. The active ingredients would be those which actively prevent sun damage, like zinc oxide, or whatever. The inactive ingredients are everything else, like any moisturizing ingredients. All of the ingredients, whether they’re classed as active or inactive, play a role, and all should be considered valuable information for anyone who is wondering what sets any product apart. Hope that helps! I bet Dr. Dray would explain it better 😂
Cerave healing ointment is the best for my 💋. Question 🙋 when undergoing phototherapy, is the patient at higher risk of melanomas? Happy Friday dr dray and peeps ❤️ ❤️ 😍🎊💐💞
Depending on the type, it is a theoretical risk given the low/controlled dosages, but phototherapy patients are typically monitored with yearly total body skin check
I don’t like using gloves when I’m washing up so I apply cerave ointment on the surface on my hands (not the palms) and it protects them from the harsh washing up liquid
As an ER doc and mom of 4 kids I have yet to find something I won’t put Aquaphore on. But, alas, years of only nights have not been kind to the fine lines around my eyes. I’m excited to try this slogging/slugging? thing with CeraVe. Thanks for the great tip!
I love your Chanel. I’m 45. I just finished chemo. Would you please do 1 on the best stuff you can put in your hair for your hair to grow back. Thank you so much ❤️
I literally was at the store the other day wondering the same thing! I barely clicked on this video and based on the ingredients, the Cerave healing ointment I'm sure is better cause it has so many ingredients that put good things back into the skin, such as hyaluronic acid. I personally love the cerave healing ointment and I use it on my lips, under eyes, and even minor cuts.
Perfect timing, thank you Dr Dray! I’m 5 weeks out from knee replacement (at 68 so much more than bargained for) and between the TED hose and non slip socks constantly on, not feeling like taking off, lotion, put back on, they are now a dry scaly mess - will definitely try this. Suppose either would be good for the scar too.
I was using CeraVe for baby, bc I can’t ever find the ointment in stores and the baby version is cheaper than the regular on Amazon. However, I recently discovered the Vaseline body balm stick, which is great and easy to apply. I also love Albolene. It’s multi-use and so easy to smear on. I even use it to grease up the door when it swells and gets stuck in the humid weather. 😉 Albolene is also dirt cheap and you get a huge amount.
Albolene is my go-to makeup remover as part of my double cleanse routine (I follow it with a gentle cleanser, usually in the shower). I love it especially to remove stubborn character and special effects makeup, on myself and my clients. It’s awesome! I’ll try it for slugging: makes perfect sense due to its ingredients and you’re right: it costs less than half the price of CeraVe Healing Ointment per ounce.
@@veronicas8240 As far as I can tell they’re the exact same thing- I think the only appreciable difference is the packaging. The Baby comes in a lighter blue tube and on occasion has baby alphabet block graphics on it, whereas the standard version comes in a darker blue tube and doesn’t feature any particular graphics aside from the writing. That’s the only difference I notice.
I tried both, I noticed Aquafor lasts longer, melted into my skin and moisturized better. I really wanted to like CeraVe but it really was too similar to Vaseline despite the added ingredients.
Def Cerave Healing Ointment. Love love love and use it every day. Great to slather on hands before putting on thin cotton gloves then nitrile gloves for gardening. I put it on facial orifices before Differin gel in eve, and again to lips and corners of mouth before bed. And at least 2x week to feet under cotton socks at bedtime. Products w/ lanolin don’t agree with my skin, but I prefer to avoid animal products anyway.
Doc thank you for providing this platform. Not only are you generously helpful but the comments submitted are invaluable. It helps to know you are not alone and others have found the cause of their lip problems. Mine is the toothepaste!!!! I ❤ y'all.
I prefer Aquaphor because it stays in place longer, which is especially nice overnight. The Cerave has more slip but is wiped off more easily. Thank you for sharing your insight!
I used Vaseline once. Believe me, you don't want to do that if you have pets. I found out the hard way with pet fur on my face. Lol They also make a non petrol Vaseline.
For healing and regeneration of irritated skin or bleeding wound (and I hate having to recognize it) Elizabeth Arden _8 Hours Cream_ by far. For slugging, depends on personal preferences🤷🏻♀️.
I am team Aquaphor only by marriage. My husband uses it during the winter months successfully for his dry cracked hands. The tube last a long time and I use it nightly on my lips and have used it on my face when I get heavy handed with the Tretinoin.
The cerave baby version is probably fine as she's recommended both in one of her winter skin care videos. She's also mentioned the Cetaphil one for slugging in her weekend vlogs. She's also recommended the vanicream vaniply ointment in one of her slugging shorts.
I agree 💯. I even apply an extra layer of Cerave to my eyes, neck and décolleté if I happen to wake up in the middle of the night to use the washroom. My eyes feel so much fresher when I wake in the am.
Hi Dr Dray, here in Argentina the Aquaphor 50ml is aprox 18 dolars. Its really expensive... And cerave healing ointment doesnt exist jajaja . Recently i found a dupe for aquaphor and its really nice ! Before that i been using just vaseline We are entering winter here and wanna try the tip for the legs and arms. Btw love your videos and vlogs 😘🤗
I’m post op from surgery and I used neosporin then used cvs version of the same thing . and I got a burning rash had to jump In The shower wash it off. so weird thought the store versions where the same apparently not.
Although Cerave healing ointment isn’t ready available in the UK, I have managed to get it from Amazon at moment, so I use Cerave in the summer and Aquaphor in the winter for slugging as Aquaphor is slightly thicker in consistency
Seems like I’m in the minority based on the comments! LOL Aquaphor has worked better for me than Cerave. I was impressed by Cerave’s ingredients but sadly it irritates the skin on my face and doesn’t work as well as Aquaphor for my dry lips. I’ll finish my bottle of Cerave on the rest of my body. Aquaphor is my holy grail! It’s the only thing that has helped my perpetually dry lips and I love it for slugging!
Ok, I am 30 seconds in and I already know you prefer the Cerave one. You mention it regularly. But I am curious to see why. I really trust your judgment. You are very honest with us.
i am extremely loyal to aquaphor and i live and breathe the stuff, it's truly a holy grail. my eyes are a problem area for me so i'm super curious if the hyaluronic acid and ceramides will cause me to notice a difference in performance for me. i have to give it a try sometime! the price difference is annoying, but i'm honestly super curious to try so i'll purchase the smaller size. personally i dislike pure petroleum jelly or vaseline products. it doesn't provide enough hydration for me because it's occlusive on its own without any moisturizing benefits. my lips get dryer when i use vaseline, so i am team aquaphor! thank you for this video dr.dray 💙
@@db-gb5xi thank you d b, I’m now learning that sunscreen needs to be applied indoors too…. before I was slugging at night and during the day also if I stayed home, which I loved doing.. so this totally changes things 😒

Ha! My big chance to tell you that I’m LOVING the CeraVe tinted sunscreen that you recommended. It makes my old-lady skin look so good. Thanks!
Thanks for watching
@@DrDrayzday team cerave
I like it too.
Is good on dark skin too?
@@MP-hw6sx Maybe not-I’m a pale redhead and it has a little bit of a golden tan look on me. It’s pretty sheer, though, so I don’t think you’d get the cast you get from zinc oxide sunscreens.
I didn’t even know “body slugging” was a thing 😂 but I’ve been doing it for weeks and it’s made a HUGE improvement on my psoriasis.
What product do you use?
Hey Dr Dray! Do you have a video addressing the little blood dots in skin that pop up like beauty marks??
I have several videos covering red spots on skin
Is this what Hailey Bieber was talking about when she said go to bed looking like a glazed donut 🍩 😳
i use both of these daily, so i can definitely tell a difference. cerave seems to "melt" more/faster so i use whichever one best suits me for the area i'm treating. cerave for eye area and aquaphor for lips/nose, but either for nails and wound/scab healing! love them both so much!
I have both and I feel like cerave gets absorbed more quickly. I think I prefer the cerave for that reason
@@vvieites001 that’s because Cerave isn’t an occlusive. It can still sort of be used for slugging, and a lot of people love it. But in order for a product to be considered true occlusive, it must contain petroleum. But not everyone needs such a full spectrum occlusive like that
@@centillion5733 you mean Petrolatum & the CeraVe has 46.5% Petrolatum
I've been using Aquaphor since I originally got samples from a doc. A tube lasts a long time and I'm almost out. Will try Cerave next, especially since my cleanser and moisturizer are Cerave products (and there are coupons.. ha ). BTW, Dr. D.... I started giving sunscreen etc... as part of birthday gifts. :-). Have a good weekend, stay cool. Thanks for everything you do!
Isn't she amazing!! I feel so lucky getting all this information for free!
👍👍👍I love the cera e ointment. I use it every night on my hands and feet. You mentioned this product a couple of years ago and now is a favorite. Thanks for all your hard work. 🥰😍❤️❤️❤️

@@DrDrayzdayis you a real doctor somebody in the comments said it's a scam 🤔🤔
Aka DR. Dray
Dr dray is young so she's going to have good skin
Honestly, if a derm is recommending expensive actives, I would wonder if they're actually a dermatologist. But I am also not American.
All the times that dermatologist told me to use petrolatum on biopsies and skin cancer treatments, I wish they had explained as clearly as you why they were telling me to use it. I didn't understand why they recommended it and always thought other ointments were better. Now I will follow instructions better.
Aquafor DEFINITELY lasts significantly longer presumably because of the lanolin. One shortfall with the cereve is the constant need to reapply.
Ive been using Aquaphor for years and love it. I purchased a similar product by Walmart with the brand Equate which is supposed to be a less expensive version and it was so inferior to Aquphor.
Aquaphor is more hydrating. I feel like you are a bit biased towards absolutely anything Cerave produces.
I don’t slug but I’m Aquaphor all the way. It’s a HG for me for my lips and helping with any skin irritation. I know so many love Cerave but it just doesn’t work as good for me as Aquaphor.
What a beautiful human to help people and ask for nothing in return💛
Excellent content. I was first introduced to aquaphor a year ago for skin dermatitis on my hands(never had it before!). It's been a blessing and now use it a few times a week on my hands elbows... just for maintenance.
Going to try cerave as an eye cream. Love that you went into detail of the strength of each product👍 Thsnks
I love the CeraVe ointment... it lasts such a long time. I’ve used 100% USP mineral oil, in the laxative section, as a first step in a double cleanse recently and loved it! So affordable. I did the second cleanse in the shower by the way.
You wash your face with mineral oil?
I have noticed a difference in my under eye and eyelid area since slugging Cerave ointment over my gentle eye cream. I cannot tolerate any type of retinol in eye cream so for me, this is the next best thing.
I have been using Aquaphor on my severe chapped lips throughout the day for years. I wanted to try Cereve but noticed I had to reapply Cereve more often than Aquaphor. Both are excellent!
I had the same experience!
Yeah, CeraVe now has the ointment in the tub, so may be easier to get out.,.that tube is a struggle at first
I have the tub of cerave and is so good.
Get a tub next time, better to use in my opinion. 💙💙
I use Aquaphor lip products, both the immediate relief and one with spf and they are my savior for chapped lips. I agree aquaphor is better for chapped skin
Just put the tube in hot water for a few seconds. Or cold water if it’s too runny.
I did this for two nights now because I felt my face needed some repairing since I wasn't using much skin care and my face looked dull. Didn't know it was called slugging. I am a CeraVe girl by the way.
👍🏼👍🏼
Would Laroche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 be good for slugging? 🤔
Yes!! Dr. Idris in NYC calls it face basing. I prefer it to the 2 mentioned. I use to face, eyes, lips babies everything, especially after retinol. It has healing properties. It healed my kitchen burn💖
I’m team Aquaphor. I’ve been using it for years on my lips and feet. The Cerave ointment is not as thick.
Do you use any other treatment or serum for wrinkles?
Try it on the neck!! The results have blown me away. My neck looks tighter and obviously less dry and so less crepey!!!!
@@Amy_Stanmore Hi Angel, yes I do. I have used tretinoin every night for the past 2 years. This has made a big difference overall. However, I find that the Cerave healing ointment plumps up my skin around my eyes when I use it.
@@Calberta Thank you, I will do that for sure!
CeraVe healing ointment honestly changed my LIFE! And I have you Dr Dray to thank for.
Aquaphor is what was recommended for me to prevent burns from radiation therapy. It really helped.
Team CeraVe!!! Even though I own both, I prefer CeraVe for my lips, my cuticles, for the skin around my eyes. It is a multi-tasker and I love it!.
I put Cerave on while my skin is still wet from the shower. Less greasy that way. Way back, ladies put Crisco on their face at night. Same slugging concept, different product.
I remember my mother talking about that, and I’m 64. It definitely goes way back!
Aquaphor has lanolin!
An allergen for me, resulting in contact dermatitis.
Danya
I'm team Cerave. I bought the jar from Wal-Mart and keep it by my bed. I put in on my eyes, neck, chest, arms and legs before going to sleep. I figured sheets are easy to wash. My only issue is keeping my dog from kicking it off.
I like to slug with the Cerave because of the added benefits you mentioned, but I feel like Aquaphor does a much better job moisturizing my lips.
I feel the same for lips - Aquafor
I love the Cerave Ointment so much, especially when I "grease the orifices" for my differin adapalene, i also use it as an eye cream. Haven't tried the aquaphor tbh but I agree how easy the cerave is to spread on the face compared to regular petrolatum. Thanks for the detailed review!
I used it to CLEAR up chapped lips. Too cheap to use anything other than my big tub of Cerave! Love It!
This is how you know you're an OG Dr Dray fan hahah. "grease the orifices"
Just asking..do you apply the CeraVe after the differin ?
@@kellyburnett1833 you put it on before so you don't get irritation in those places. Put around the eyes so it won't migrate to that area. She has a video on how to use retinols that discusses it.
Grease the orifices? Tell us more. 😏
@@patriciagiles5833 I live in a wet climate now for the last 20 years.
@@bugsbunny2357 Yes, I see that now. Sorry.
I love the cerave ointment. My son uses it on his hands at night to prevent hangnail irritation!
What really? Do you know where they are selling it at?
@@Saramdavis It's not available yet. The site lists it as coming soon.
I’ve seen an oil cleanser in Europe, but no where to be found stateside. I need to pick it up next time in London for work
Dr. Dray have you tried the new intensive repair essential oil balm from Eucerin? I've read good things about it and wanted to see what you thought. It seems like a nice list of ingredients that include urea, which I know you have spoken about very favorably before. BTW I'm definitely Team Cerave. 💕
She mentioned this in a recent shopping video. She said she really likes it.
I'm in the same boat as you. Did you try the CeraVe?
I have eczema too, how does the cerave healing oitment do for you?
Team CeraVe! It works wonders on my almost 70 y.o. skin. I've avoided using it around the eyes, but will add that to my ongoing skin care. Thanks for a great review!
Thank you Dr Dray! I have been using CeraVe healing ointment as a eye cream after watching this video. I could see such a difference in just a few nights of using it with the hydration and fine lines around my eyes and it is so cheap!!! Thank you!
I loved the way my face looked afterwards and it's great for chapped or dry 👄 as you know as I follow you and you use it😃

@@DrDrayzday thank you always 🥰
Oh well .....get bouth ☺ BUT in europ ( even trough Amazon ) cerave healing oinment 12 oz goes for 40-60 euro.....what are you paying in America ?
Is the baby same as the normal ointment version?
Very very very interesting video, I love both brands, I’m currently using the cerave healing ointment.
I tried both, I noticed Aquafor lasts longer, melted into my skin and moisturized better. I really wanted to like CeraVe but it really was too similar to Vaseline despite the added ingredients.
I use the Walgreens dupe of Cereve Healing Ointment around my eyes at night. I love it and it’s a bit less expensive.
Lol
They also make a non petrol Vaseline.
Hahaha i thought iwas the only one
For healing and regeneration of irritated skin or bleeding wound (and I hate having to recognize it) Elizabeth Arden _8 Hours Cream_ by far.
For slugging, depends on personal preferences🤷🏻♀️.
I am team Aquaphor only by marriage. My husband uses it during the winter months successfully for his dry cracked hands. The tube last a long time and I use it nightly on my lips and have used it on my face when I get heavy handed with the Tretinoin.
How do the baby versions of these compare? Also Vanicream, Cetaphil have an ointment, how do those compare as well?
Before that i been using just vaseline
We are entering winter here and wanna try the tip for the legs and arms.
Btw love your videos and vlogs 😘🤗
I’m post op from surgery and I used neosporin then used cvs version of the same thing . and I got a burning rash had to jump In The shower wash it off.
so weird thought the store versions where the same apparently not.
I'm glad you mentioned about putting those on the eyelids as I've been having an awful time with dry, sore skin on and around my eyes.
Aquaphor all the way, cheaper, does the same thing and if no allergies to lanolin, why not🤩

Can you use avene cicalfate under a healing ointment or vaseline?
Although Cerave healing ointment isn’t ready available in the UK, I have managed to get it from Amazon at moment, so I use Cerave in the summer and Aquaphor in the winter for slugging as Aquaphor is slightly thicker in consistency
Seems like I’m in the minority based on the comments! LOL
Aquaphor has worked better for me than Cerave.
I started body slugging too after a warm shower it seems to sink in pretty fast what a difference I love it
Ok, I am 30 seconds in and I already know you prefer the Cerave one.
Dr Dray, you've been on the Spanish news in the television a moment ago! 💖
How do we handle slugging during the day along with sunscreen? Can we slug after sunscreen?
She has a few videos talking about slugging but she usually does it at the end of the day after bathing on clean skin.
@@db-gb5xi thank you d b, I’m now learning that sunscreen needs to be applied indoors too…. before I was slugging at night and during the day also if I stayed home, which I loved doing.. so this totally changes things 😒
I have both, mostly use for lips and under eyes at night. I like Cerave consistency more, but I feel my lips are dryer in the morning after Cerave. I love Aquafor for the results better.
I’m in camp cerave healing ointment!
Ii can not use Aquaphor . Both times Dr had me use I had some huge knots . But Cerave i have had no problems love it.
I have both, and I think I like aquaphor better. I've been using it on my lips for the past couple of days and last night I noticed my lips looked SO hydrated. Also, MUCH easier to squeeze out of the bottle.
I have both, bit I definitely prefer the Cerave. I would not have known about it without your recommendation. Thank you!

Same! I did not understand why my lips werent getting better with aquaphor. Swapped to cerave ointment and finally they healed!
I have the opposite problem… 🤷🏻♀️
Thankyou so much for introducing the Cerave healing ointment to me. I would never had purchased this prior to watching your videos. It is an amazing product. It healed my sensitive skin and I slug now and my skin is the so soft and hydrated. Thanks DR Dray . You are the best!
I spray aquaphor on my legs after shaving and it keeps ingrown hairs and itch at bay. Total HG. .
Hi Dr Dray, is it recommended to wash skin around eyes using cleansers with salicylic acid? Can you please make a video on how to wash face like a dermatologist? Thank you 🙏
Could you do a video on annual skin cancer screenings? I’ve never had one and probably should because of a family history of skin cancer, but I’m nervous about it and keep procrastinating.
