I've had my Maytag Neptune Front Loading washer for over 13 years now and I have never had a probem with mold or smells. Two things I do consistently - spray the inside and the door with my DIY disinfectant (CMS recipe) and leave the door wide open when I'm done. My manufacturer suggested that my last wash should be the hotest (i.e. whites), so if I have them I wash them last. My front loader has the traditional button area that resembles a top loader, so I need to do better about cleaning the dispensing area and the top.I've used your previous cleaning routine and will try this one out. I like the idea of cleaning my appliances (washing machine, dish washer) on the first day of Spring and Fall. My dream task - cleaning the gutters. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this great cleaning tip. I’m cleaning my washer right now. I’ve never used tee tree oil before so I’m sure it will be lovely and fresh. Only downside is I’ve just found out that the self clean program empties out after 5 minutes so all the solution went down the drain very quickly. I’ve selected another program on 70 degrees but it’s only just over an hour long. I hope it still cleans thoroughly. xxx

There is a reason the washing machine manufacturers never advice the use of vinegar on gaskets and other rubber parts. Vinegar deteriorates rubber and depending frequency of usage, this happens sooner or later, guaranteed . The way to clean your machine's gasket, is perfectly described on the manual. Use the method described by the manufacturer, who knows better the materials used to build it. Same goes for the dish washing machines. All other tips are very well described.

Vinegar can seriously damage your heater element in a frontload washer. Particularly if the element is ceramic. The vinegar will corrode the ceramic coating.

Thanks Melissa. Great video. I’m a bit scared to use anything inside my washing machine. The manufacturer, said not to use anything, just run the hottest cycle. The repair man told me the same. I just use a damp microfibre cloth to wipe everything down. I hang clothes on the outside line. They smell fresh that way. I just use the dryer if it’s been raining a lot or to fluff up the towels when they’re still slightly damp. We only have 3 in the house but I wash every day. I think I’d choose either ironing or window cleaning for the butler. I don’t mind doing dishes, or even ironing sometimes but I just hate to face a full basket of ironing.

    • @sugarplumk2381
      @sugarplumk2381 4 роки тому

P..S. in the past I have used (in a less expensive machine so I wasn’t so scared) washing Soda crystals. Just completely dissolve them in hot water, pour it in the drum and run a cycle.

Me too! I run a 90 degree empty cycle 4-6 times a year and do more thorough cleaning once a year. This seems to work well for me. I do, however live alone (well, with 2 cats but I don't wash them in washing machine 😁), so I only do laundry 1-2 loads a week.

I just got a h e washer. I rent so my landlord provides a washer and I had never used one before. It seemed so weird how different the two machines are. I had to read a lot and watch videos to see what others thought. I was shocked what some folks are doing to get more water in their washer. So I started trying different loads of various sizes and types. It is really cool how clean my clothes came out. One part I really like is how well the washer spins out the loads. So I am pro H E!

Most imp - to rinse the sponges and scrubs thoroughky after dishes. Wring it hard and place it on a clean surface. It will dry in few hours. Leaving water soaked it will stay wet and breed microbes. If possible you can place it on window sill in sunlight. Sunlight kills germs.

I have 4.5yo triplets so I do laundry daily! Linens get washed once a week along with general us towels. Kitchen towels get washed twice a week. I have recently switched to laundry pods because it’s much simpler to store and secure out of reach of children. I generally use vinegar in as fabric softener for linens and towels. I also always do an extra rinse cycle to ensure no soap or grime is left.
I normally do a washer clean cycle once a month, and vacuum out the dryer vent twice a year.

You cleaned the filter like your mom said but didn’t drain the water from the hose in the door.
Also we live in a humid environment so I not only dry the gasket and door after the wash and leave the door open but I also have taken to leaving a flat plastic bowl of baking soda in the drum, I simply take it out for the next wash but put it back each time. This seems to really help with odor.

Chemical Engineer .. citric acid and (e.g. OxyClean) sodium percarbonate soaking for as long as possible in as hot of water as possible. Mold stains completely saturate paper towels with straight bleach on front load machine boots; test a small less visible area first example in the crease. Scrud is generally very difficult to remove without physical scrubbing. Scud is in areas that you can't see outside the inner and inside the outer drum, boot crevices, agitators, etc.
Ideally use a product like Affresh tablets as directed because it's simple to use.

I think my simple hack might help you.
Take a microfiber towel then soak it with 250ml vinegar. Put the towel into washer, let the lid open and turn on with 90 degree cycle.

I clean my wash machine every two days, I spray it down with that my own DIY Clorox solution and scrub it out with a toothbrush and a microfiber cloth and then I run it through a cycle with baking soda and vinegar and essential oil’s to three drops on the hottest temperature and then when it completes the cycle I wipe it out again and run a rinse cycle. I also wipe down the inside of my dryer with my DIY cleaner and leave the door open to dry and then I’ll wipe it out with a dry cloth to make sure there’s no residue of the liquid in the dryer. I also clean the lint filter on the dryer I wash it with hot water and then I spray it with my DIY cleaner and rinse it well and let it dry and return it to the dryer I’ve been doing this for all the years I’ve been married and that is 51 years it makes a big difference, And I am married to a decent mechanic so I had to keep my washer and dryer clean

FYI mixing baking soda and vinegar leaves you with a useless salt mixture. They literally cancel each other out.

I think I would have my housekeeper do the dishes.
Love this video! I have an old fashion top load washer but I will be trying these techniques. I don't know if I have a gasket or drummer. The think the drummer is at the top. But i definitely don't have a detergent tray. My current aptmt was unoccupied for 2yrs and the washer smells bad of mold. I'm quite sure the old tenants left the lid on the washer when they moved out. Hopefully these methods will work. I will keep you updated.

Hmmm...if I had a Butler I'd have him clean my bathrooms, especially the shower and the bathroom my brother-in-law uses (which he never cleans 😝😝.)

My front-load washer got out of control around 10 years ago. I had an appliance repair guy in to look at my dryer and he said "Dude! clean your washer!" He told me to use vinegar and a rag to clean the gasket and to run a couple of empty loads with a cup of vinegar in the machine to clean it out. Then he told me to add some vinegar with every load - I just put it in the bleach dispenser (unless I'm using bleach, of course!) I've been doing that for the last 10 years and my washer(s) have remained spotless and fresh! Of course I keep the door and dispenser open between uses also. I think part of my problem both then and now was that I went from doing every other load being whites with bleach to almost all of my loads being colors, no bleach. Adding the vinegar each time seems to add that extra bit of chemistry that the bleach used to provide to keep the washer clean and fresh.

What are your thoughts on using a shower spray on the interior of a top-load washing machine? I have been applying a few sprays of Method’s Daily Shower Spray to my drum and allowing it to air dry. This is a supplement to my weekly cleaning. It doesn’t require a rinse, and it smells amazing!

One important point missed is limescale buildup on the glass of the door inside. Use lime descaler, same as shower and soft sponge and rub off till smooth surface. Vinegar does nothing and sodium bicarbonate can scratch in case you have plastic on your machine door inside (not sure if any does, maybe cheap machines?)
