We never found out if the fish could swim in cola. :(
#WeNeedAnswers
filthy sub human you disgust me lol
Captain here,
Fish respire through their gills, breathing oxygen from the water. Coca-Cola is a sweetened beverage mainly consisting of dissolved carbon dioxide.
A fish could technically *swim* in Coca-Cola though it would die very fast because of not being able to respire. It could be equated to: could a human walk in a room filled with helium? And the answer to that is, ofcourse no, because we wouldn't be able to breath.
*Flies away*
Except that humans can hold air in their lungs for a period of time, so if they held their breath first (or used a re-breather, for instance), they absolutely could walk in a room full of helium.
Still, other than the example not being analogous to the question at hand, I'm glad someone wrote an answer that makes sense.
The fish got diabetes and died.
Wait, the credits are in Comic Sans?!?
Did Daddy Derek direct this?!?
stride99 No, Morticia Addams.
Is Morticia Addams the secretly Daddy Derek? Watch my channel to find out!
Hooray for shameless self-promotion!
Grongy Whose father is one of the best directors of all time. Awks
Cool Cat Loves The Mentally Challenged
*Cool Cat Loves Committing Copyright Fraud On UA-cam!*
Fun fact: This movie was a book adaptation of a memoir. And they changed a lot! I shit you not when the movie was released the father who supposedly died in the movie was still alive when it was released...
I will now overly research this to shit. Thank you so much! I mean my entire day is about to be wasted but still, thank you!
@@grizzlygoldman I’m not ashamed to say that I cried a LOT. It’s a really heartbreaking look into how people with so few advantages can still see the good in the world. This movie is fucking gross in comparison.
To prepare for the role Rosie hung around herself for a week.
zerkzy842 This comment deserves far more likes than it's getting.
Just like her new toilet seat!!! xD
she went full method an never recovered.
Never go full method.
I read it as "Rosie hung herself for around a week"
Are there really people who say "stop living off the government" to someone who is clearly mentally handicapped and doesn't have much of a choice? e__e
Unfortunately. It just doesn't occur to some people that disabled people really don't have much of a choice in how they live their lives.
"Are there really people who..."? How long have you lived in the U.S.? People suck! Doesn't matter the handicap, race or sexual orientation, idiots are always going to look down at us.
lucifex Umm okay. Okay. You basically just said that mentally handicapped people are better dead. "It saves money and it's not like they're going to do anything to change the world anyway." I cannot believe you had the fucking audacity to say that. Let's put this into perspective. My brother has autism. He is by no means a burden to me or my family, physically or financially. We LOVE him. "Wow, people actually are capable of loving disabled people?" Yes, that's right. And my my brother has changed our lives for the better. I swear to God, you will not find someone more kind, polite, or golden-hearted on this earth. My brother may not change the world, but you won't either. Only a select few do. Regardless, he has changed MY world. He has his quirks, but he's not "fucked up." He's different. We're all different, believe it or not.
In conclusion: go fuck yourself. I wish I could find the kindess in me to be nice to you, but I can't. I'm crying over the words I've just read. Amazingly enough, the stuff you write on the internet is read by other actual human beings, who are different and are in different circumstances from you. I just wish we could meet in person so I can slap you.
lucifex I just can't believe you said that my brother deserves to die because he has autism, that you find anyone with mental handicaps undeserving of healthy, happy lives. You're an absolute disgrace.
Madelyn- It's called a troll. Idiots who get off on posting stuff to get a reaction from others. Usually people who's own life is so broken that they have nothing better to do. Ignoring them works fine.
Leo's performance in what's eating Gilbert Grape is a perfect example on how to do this kind of movie right..
Nouveau1 he should have won an Oscar for it
What was that movie.. I think it was called “I Am Sam,” that one made me bawl my eyes out. It was done incredibly well, too. I haven’t seen What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, I’ll have to check it out
He wasn't even the MAIN focus, he was only one aspect of the main character's life
Nouveau1 0
Nouveau1 that movie was so good
I've worked with almost 100 different adults with various different disabilities in work, residential, and day support settings and I don't recall ever working with anyone who acted that ridiculous. Way to play a stereotype. I have worked with someone that would stuff pieces of his lunch into his soda then drink it though. It would gross me out
It' just another big company that mistook a panic attack for normal bahavior.
Hey ho
Junji Ito
Remember if you haven't experienced it then it probably isn't real
i know the real woman. she still rides the bus. she acts JUST like this.
@@LydiaSalem That’s a bus woman, they are basically folk creatures
to be fair
That last joke was pretty damn good
"You're not sleeping, you're complaining, you're the hippopotamus"
bravo
xweert711 I also liked "well... I said I wasn't going to cook"
I worked with a man with Down's syndrome for two years. You'd think someone like that wouldn't be easy to work with, especially when doing labor like our group was doing (planting trees, making paths, park-preservation stuff), but he was really productive and easily kept up the work. Sure, he would have occasional fits of rage when something didn't go his way, but he was usually pretty chill and even kinda easy to talk to. He did not come off as obnoxious or anything like that.
What I'm trying to say is, this movie's portrayal of a disabled woman is offensive towards people with actual disabilities.
It's extremely common to portray any disabled character as someone who goes into a blind rage over the littlest thing and is constantly trying to kill people and have the mentality of a 2 year old. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely people with various mental disabilities like that, but it sucks that it has to be the most common representation as a whole. Mental disabilities are extremely complex, including autism.
When I was a child, I got upset very easily by things neurotypical kids didn't get triggered by, I couldn't go to the toilet and still sucked on a pacifier a lot later than other kids. If you saw 5-year-old me, in a nappy and sucking a pacifier, having a meltdown in a supermarket, it's easy to see me as someone like the disabled sister in this film. But at the same time, I loved to read and draw, I talked in great depth when I was comfortable, I was considered very smart by my teachers and most importantly, I had feelings. I had some autonomy too! I could go to the corner shop and to school on my own from age 8. I even had a few friends. And I'm an independent adult now. I really wish creators tried harder with their disabled representation. Not saying you can't create a character who is unable to do most things by themselves, but it would be great to have some variety.
I had a relative who is mentally challenged he was smart and intelligent and got on with everyone he
Has a career and he was top of the work list
You can tell when Rosie made this, she said to herself, "This is it. When I'm finally recognized for my acting ability"
She was right. Her acting ability was recognized as being non-existent.
This was part of her angry coming out period. She was tired of her (you have to admit it) very successful career as a character actress, her talk show and her magazine and did this.
Her Betty Rubble laugh was Amazing! It deserves an OSCAR.
Sia's Music is the new Riding the Bus with My Sister.
Change my mind.
I can not change your mind, as I too believe this to be the case.
Music is kinda worse though
At least you can laugh at Rosie O’Donnells performance in this movie. Hearing about what Maddie went through behind the scenes is just sick!
When I saw the title I thought you were literally gonna talk about riding the bus with your sister and that it was an april fools or something.
"I HAVE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL"
"This might make you a little late for your doctor's appointment"
excuse me where the fuck does the doctor work then
+Hu Jass ER =/= Doctors office
Aedestir well it's still at a hospital isn't it?
Hu Jass Some aren't.
Can still be completely different hospitals.
^^^ Exactly
Sia watched this movie and thought “I could do worse”
O BOI
This movie hurts more to watch, but it's not like they're that different
There was a severely disabled guy at the computer shop I used to volunteer at called Zach. He was both mentally and physically pretty impaired, but not enough that he couldn't handle shredding files. He had better social skills than the five other manchildren I worked with that actually fixed the computers, who were just as annoying as the woman in this movie. God bless you little dude.
The scene at 2:33 was actually just a candid shot of Rosie waiting for the bus after a day of shooting.
Wow. Rosie O'Donnell's portrayal of a mentally handicapped person is insulting. Instead of an honest exploration of what someone who is mentally handicapped might have to go through day to day, she turned it into a caricature. And the side characters...yeesh. Way to paint everything in black and white. It's not all Rosie's fault, though with a better actor it could've been less insulting, the writing and directing is terrible too. I vaguely remember watching this back in the day (against my will) and it was truly awful and offensive.
happychaosofthenorth I couldn’t agree more! I work with people who have disabilities and I know a lot of handicapped people and this is like the most cliche depiction ever. (sorry but those kind of movies really get on my nerves)

@@Lackingx "Disgusting little autists"? Really?
I'd rather be an autist than someone who can't even show respect to people with a mental disability. They're humans too, just so you know.
Youre very articulate for a tard. Someone must have gotten straight gold stars
I can`t agree with you!
I once knew a girl who was just like Beth. People reacted to her as it was shown in this movie.
Some loved her to bits, others made fun of her, and some bullied her.
Rosie`s acting is incredible. and the movie is awesome.

There was a line in the movie Tropic Thunder that explains why this movie was a bad idea. If you haven't seen it go check it out.
Xx Asy Yeah, you never want to do that.

YOU'RE NOT SLEEPING, YOU'RE COMPLAINING!
I don't even think Rosie was acting. I think people just followed her around with hidden cameras.

So is this like a rule 63 modern day prequel to Of Mice and Men?
Now with less murder.

Masked Mercenary
And without rabbits.
+Kyle Dean More like the modern day rule 63 prequel where half of the pages have shit smeared across them.

Sounds like a modern day public English school class..
Okay, no joke though, that last joke was hilarious. "You're not sleepin' you're complainin'" had me laughing out loud.
This film is in absolute poor taste. I suffer from mental illness myself, and I felt embarrassed and insulted while watching this film.
William Sciambra Hahahaha. Nope
***** Crabs
+Brian McCann No it's just fucking AIDS :^)
good luck finding a film that represents mental disabilities well. They're few and far between.
i feel you
5:42 Wait, that "You're da hippopotamus" line. I heard that in an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Is this where that line came from?
Are we not gonna talk about how this movie was directed by Anjelica Houston?TF
Rosie O'Donnell playing Rosie O'Donnell.
Oh my god they chose comic sans for their title and credits? What did the editor let their 10 year old kid choose the font! XD
I suppose they thought that Comic Sand would really jam in the "This movie is about mentally handicapped people". Another sign that yhe producers are assholes.
Apparently comic sans is designed for dyslexic people, so I guess it's connected to the movies story... right?
It was "bring your kid to work" day
Smack Zack Derek Savage was on set that day.
@@cmc3223 i think the real handicapped people are the producers
so glad a film was made expressing the true struggles of the mentally handicapped, so amazing! so informative and emotional!
My Book: now you are So getting trolled and triggered...
Sia saw this and said "hold my beer"
So, it´s basically "Rain man", but everyone is an asshole. And the main characters are girls.
That's exactly what I thought
Clint Howard what
Basically...
And it sucks
I wanna see John Travolta and Rosie have a special challengeed movie together 🤣💀
We call it Pop in Michigan.
Well, actually that's practically Canada, so..
You're everywhere I look. I bet you stalk me in the street of Michigan, too.
I have some relatives from South Dakota who say pop instead of soda
I moved from CA to MI and in doing so, I went from saying soda to pop. When I'm in CA I say soda. When I'm in MI I say pop.
Same here in Illinois.
Solidus Sparkle Washington state as well. Weird.
After watching this video I'm still not convinced this movie exists.
Is this Sia's new movie?
I've met shitty people with mental disabilities. I had a mentally handicapped bully in middle school who would ram his big fat gut into me and laugh when I crumpled to the ground, and he was perfectly aware it was wrong, he just enjoyed it.
That's a tough question. They're both great but very different in style.
Also it's a little known fact that Rosie odonell wasn't actually playing a character in this movie, she was just playing herself
Rosie O'Donnell sounds like Pee-Wee Herman
You made me laugh super hard at that "Target audience" joke. I have an American friend and he's always correcting us when we call soda pop or a book bag a back pack.
I'm going to hate myself for adding to these comments, but I find it funny how many people are saying "I'm American and I've always called it pop", because I'm American myself, and I've always called it soda.
Some people don't understand that it all depends on region
you-are-the-pelican-man I see.
In Britain we tend to call it by the name brand, funnily enough.
EverestBlizzard Actually, we do that here too.
Where I'm from, we call it a chaser.
I think this is just a camera crew following rosie o'donnel around during her day
My dad used to work in a hospital for the mentally handicapped and he sometimes drove the bus to our house. I was young at the time but all of them were so sweet! They were so excited to meet my stuffed toys and chat with me and it was such a wholesome experience! I do understand though that portraying the mentally handicapped in a movie does need to be done right, or not at all, it's such a tough subject that it often doesn't work out. (Also I avoided watching this for ages cuz I thought it was a vlog about you riding the bus with your sister XD)
I had this wierd feeling about the setting of the movie, it looked really familiar. Then it hit me, it was shot in Hamilton, Ontario.
So THAT'S why my bus is always late, it's guided by the whims of the mentally handicapped.
Yeah, the fact that noone bothered to check her id or ask where her guardians were (or the fact that someone who seems to be in a constant panic attack is living on their own in the first place) was pretty....yeah.
Hamilton is the Detroit of Canada.
LearnedAndVile why?
more like the Pittsburgh ;)
I actually really like the Hammer
KarnmanGT500 Now that you told me this makes so much sense. No wonder this movie looks like such shit. Fuck I hate where I live.
every time I see Rosey o' Donnel I can't help but think of this ridiculous character.
You know, instead of having a non disabled person playing a weird caricature of a disabled person, I'd love to see an actor with down syndrome or aspergers or cerebral palsy or just social anxiety play a protagonist with a disability who, despite their struggles and how much harder they need to work to feel as effective as or be treated with the same respect as their peers, is an effective, lovable, affectionate, and valued member of their community. It would be really refreshing to see a disabled character be portrayed as someone you'd wanna hang out with instead of someone you should feel sorry for.
It's almost like... You don't need people to play themselves because... There are actors for that.
I lost my shit with the "Do you think they can swim in Cola?" line.
This movie was directed by the woman who played the grand high witch and morticia Addams
This was filmed in my city. Sorry world
Had to watch this again after RLM's Half in the Bag review for The Fanatic, referring to this movie for worst/offensive "Regal" performance.
Yeah it still holds up that title unquestionably.
Who got this suggested after all the terrible "Music" reviews? 🤣
I've worked with people who have learning disabilities and trust me, they can be absolute pricks when the mood takes them.
Whenever I see this video, I always think it's literally his thoughts on riding the bus with his sister
As a Minnesotan, I got confused when you clarified it was “soda”, not pop
As an American, I think you could convince a bus full of people to do anything so long as you could get them to applause.
I don't know what it is, but because of my autism and bipolar, when i cry i do the same thing. You feel trapped and your basically try to get out of your own mind to feel relief or a better way to express your emotions. I think that's why she looked up. I do that too, i felt so pent up i have no idea how to live or talk or let out my emotions, i just end up crying or screaming because i can't escape. People say i over react but i don't think they understand what it's like to feel trapped, and unable to communicate properly with real people.
That sounds like an uncomfortable combination. Do they sometimes set each other off? My ADD often sets off my Anxiety Disorder because I know when I am not able to concentrate, and thus become very anxious. Anxiety, on the other hand, is pretty distracting.

I burst out laughing when she said "Very nutritious" at 1:55.
I know that I'm not supposed to laugh because this movie is about mentally handicapped people, but goddamn I haven't laughed this much since Zoolander.
coincidently, Zoolander also happens to be about mentally handicapped people.
What is this, a swimming pool for Red Fish Candies?!

Whachu got against Stewart Copeland Adum
That's a bit harsh for a soundtrack he probably only did 'cause he was paid.
Omg, what the hell is this movie that I never knew existed until now 🤣 Oh, and why is this the exact plot and characters as “Music?” Frustrated sister, and the random, nice black dude who hangs around them?
oh dang you're RIGHT it IS the same movie 😬 wow that makes music an even bigger pile of garbage. like it literally could have just been the movie to redo this one and do it better and they made the same mistakes AND made new crappy ones. smh
Oh bro, that close up to Rosy looking at the sky made me spit my drink, you're awesome!
This review made me want to watch this movie. I think I'm a masochist.
Derek is a perfect example of a TV series that perfectly captures a mentally challenged person and still making it funny, It was the first show to ever make me cry then laugh literally seconds later, with its hilarious characters to heartfelt moments truly hilarious.
Sign of the Twine!
just thought I'd put this out there even though this videos a bit dated: if you want a more real sort of film with this theme, I'd recommend The Ringer, starring Johnny Knoxville. His gardener cuts off his finger accidentally so he tries to rig the special olympics to earn money for his gardener's surgery. only to find out that he's horridly out of shape. The mentally handicapped in the film are portrayed by actual mentally handicapped folk. So it's neat
Nice to see a Rosie O Donnell documentary finally made
Whoo! Australia with the 5 percent!! I'd put that on the Barbie!
Says nobody from Australia....
What a tasteful and subtle way to approach this material
She seems to just make mentally handicapped people look like complete idiots like they're loud little children and just absolutely obnoxious. Leonardo DeCaprio does such a better job in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. She didn't even try.
I hope your bus ride with your sister went well.
I read this as Thoughts on "riding the bus" with my Sister.......I feel stupid
3:48 The target audience joke almost destroyed my lungs.
In a good way. :D
+Draw dex (Drawdex) Oh, and how many from Dominican Republic see your videos? Or am I the only one. >->
Apparently this was based on a memoir about someone who's sister had a developmental disability... What a shame, this could have been done so much better.
I feel like this is a good video to confess that when i'm feeling depressed i move around a lot and when i'm crying i uncontrollably talk to my teddy bear that i got when i was born.... just felt like this was a good video
I still sleep with my teddy that I got when I was almost 2. I'm 19.
real sad hours
"We're going to make a movie about a person with mental disability!" Ok. "And we're going to play it entirely for laughs!" Yeah, no. Immediately ruined. Forrest Gump this is not.
Is that Charlie Brooker walking behind them at 4:13 ?
That magically turns into a continuity error :)
Shittyfilmwipe!
The guitar from the scene where Rosie O'Donnel's eating a doughnut at night sounds like a rip off of the guitar bit in the Rainbow Six 3 planning theme.
Rosie doing her best Pee Wee Herman impression. I don't know how you think your movie is good when you have such unbelievably stereotypical evil people. That's one of the things wrong with the media nowadays as life is NOT so black & white, a majority of it is grey, but movies like this dilute people's perceptions.
That last hippopotamus line was great 10/10
Just seemed like Rosie was playing Rosie
Stewart Copeland really phones it in when he's not having fun.
While I may not be developmentally disabled, as an autistic woman and a person who spends a lot of time within the disability community, I hate movies like this. They're always about "see the disabled aren't so different than us!!1!one". Except they go out of the way to Other them and make them one-dimensional morality pets and never focus on the thoughts and feelings of the disabled people themselves. The whole "disabled person with a heart of gold" trope is so played out. Above anything else, we, they, are human beings as complex as any other. And another thing, many people DON'T like person-first language. Many people consider their disability as much a part of them as their gender or hair color or race. After all, you don't say "man with blackness" or "girl with blondeness" do you?
Yeah I'm also on the spectrum and condescension is pretty much guaranteed to instantly anger or at least irritate me. The angelic disability stereotype is one of the most condescending things there is.
Actually in 1989 an Australian film by Jane Campion proved that this plot could work in the very masterful movie called "Sweetie" but hey, you can't sit down to watch a Rosie O'donnell movie and say that you didn't know what you were getting yourself into. However if your story is true chances are likely that before this movie started you knew what you'd be getting out of after 90 minutes (starting with a dinner tab.)
Rosie O'Donnell should play cancer in a documentary
This movie is Rosie’s attitude every time she doesn’t agree with something
they gone from “shit my dad is dying” to “humpty dumpty dee doo I’m so saawd”
:(
I believe in the least, the casting of Rosie O'Donnall as the tardo was excellent.
If you ever want to watch a REALLY well done movie with an Autistic main character, Snow Cake with Alan rickman and Sigourney Weaver is amazing. Really well done.
You're editing skills make me laugh so hard
It's not even saying anything new. If you want the whole "special people are alright" thing, then there's both 'One Flew Over a Koukoos nest' (probably misspelled that, but screw it) and 'Of Mice and Men'. And both of them actually manage to actually be respectful and entertaining, too.
This film just fills like someone in a room pitching the idea said "Let's make a movie about someone goofy!", someone else said "It could be about the fantastic life of a disabled person!" and then nobody ever questioned how those two things would come together ever again.
don't know why but this is ALWAYS the video that shows up in my recommended every few months and makes me binge watch all your other videos again haha
oh my god that silent look of despair killed me
2:19 is me if I gave a goddamn fuck about anything
"Sorry I was late for my appointment doc"
"Where were you?"

I watched this movie with my friends and... they hit me because I was cracking jokes the whole time o.o (I also had them rolling with laughter)
LOL that bus is a HSR! dear god not Hamilton Ont!
This movie: you have got to be fucking kidding me. Unbelievable.
Just so ya know, I'm American and everyone I know says "pop".
Depends on where you're from. If you're from the Midwest (like I am), you will most likely say 'pop'. If you're from either of the coasts, you will most likely say 'soda' or 'soda-pop' and if you're from the southern midwest, you will most likely say 'coke'. I've heard all three from all three geographical regions.
I'm an American and everyone I know says "soda". :3
Yeah, just be happy you're not in the south. I've been living there for 9 years now and it took me quite a while to get used to the fact that they will call ANY soda/pop a "coke".
I'm American and everyone I know couldn't give a shit.
Where do you live?
If you've never seen the documentary Jefftowne, it perfectly captures the concept that people with handicaps can be just like regular people. Worth a watch.
