Cool video! I got a PS4 slim in December 2019 (yes, very late, I know) and a week later I got a 2TB Samsung SSD (same as yours, but 2TB) and installed it. Quick/good reminder: DO NOT WORRY IF YOU DIDNT BACK IT UP RIGHT JUST LOOK AFTER THE OLD HDD DRIVE AND YOU WILL BE FINE. LIKE HE SAID THAT IS STILL THERE!! :) have a good day/night
One thing to keep in mind. If you're playing with friends with the default drive, you won't be able to load into any map until everyone does so it makes the upgrade worthless unless you're talking about solo gaming. This happens when people have ps5 games that are still on ps4 and there's people on both platforms in the same team.
i say this all the time ahaha me and my friends will be waiting for a match of halo infinite to load in (i have a series x and they have good gaming pc's) and we will type into chat after two minuets of loading saying "whos on the og xbox one"
Just a quick heads up for anyone that wishes to be a long term PS4 user still I recommend that you install and download all your games to a big internal or external SSD if you have loads of games in your PS library because there could be a case where PS4 games are no longer available to download. Seems like an overkill but, worth it if you can afford like a huge 8TB SSD. I will lol when I can afford one
I was suddenly thinking, did you do a rebuild of your database before measuring the load times? I did that with my ps4 and it also saved me some loading times.
My ps4 pro was completely broken after a system update, but switching to a ssd fixed it!! It works great now! And while I do have less storage space, it operates so much smoother than before.
@@joshuarkristof80 tbh i was getting annoyed by starwars fallen order, because of the load times, i don't think it was even 20 seconds i gained when i got my ssd, but it definitely made the game feel smoother every damn time i die. Lol
5:01 For those, who tried to read... Boost Mode: Experience improved gameplay, including higher frame rates, for some games that were released before the introduction of PS4 Pro (CUH-2000 series). Turn this off if you experience unexpected behavior during gameplay.
My ps4 pro actually broke when it couldn't finish an update and I always got an error message. Took it to a pc repair shop they suggested I switch to a samsung ssd. I don't have it back yet but can't wait to play and see the difference.
I actually used 1TB 860 QVO drive, mostly because it was cheaper and still much faster than the original HD. This was an early PS4 which was heavily used.
I threw a 2TB evo into my PS4Pro when it first released. Love the load times you shoulda threw some Square Enix titles in there to test. Load screen is literally just a blink
I put a 512Gb SSD into my 1st Gen PS4 from the get go because I knew how slow HDD are compared to SSDs. Playing FF14 online was awesome, Load times for sure were faster than some of the others playing online. Had a 120Gb SSD on my super slim PS3 but that only helps in certain ways, still, HDDs should be more for storage(old tech now), SSDs more for reading/writing/speed & other efficiencies/improvements that help so much.
@Naoto it WAS so expensive and if i saw no speed benefit, i def woulda took it out and put in one of my PCs but thats not the case. So not wasteful i feel
Idk if I should throw that kind of money on a console that’s on its last year of relevance. I need a 2TB and its around $330. Considering the PS5 will already use SSD and will be backwards compatible with PS4 games, I’m not sure if it makes sense to do that.
I feel at this time (PS5 release upcoming) It does not make sense to buy a huge 2TB one for the sole purpose of putting it in to a PS4. Here is what I did: I had a 250GB 850 EVO SSD laying around. Thats what i put into my PS4 Pro and were I installed the Playstation Firmware + a few games. The boost in perfomance IS indeed significant and really impressed me. Playstation menu e.g. is much smoother. The 1TB Playstation HDD i then used as an external drive.
Bro because of You i did it and didn’t regret lol but i put Pro version of 860 1TB on my death stranding limited edition ps4 pro, and its sooo fast bro lol almost the same as ps5 for real, just a second difference
Yes and No, you could have slow loadtimes till PS5 comes out or you can have faster load times now lol I guess something to last you a while... You don't have to get a Samsung 860. 1TB is cheap nowadays. I sold my 960GB Toshiba drive to a friend and he put it in his PS4 Pro just fine, I sold it to him for $50 lol but besides the point, you can use any brand SSD, it doesnt have to be Samsung if you're concerned about price.
@@Specialist7 No & no Although a ssd will work in a ps4, The ps4 doesn't have the capability to benefit from the faster read/write speeds of a ssd Btw my ps4 pro has an 860 1tb Samsung SSD inside atm
@Lina Morgana They wont be using SATA SSD but both the PS5 and Series X will be using NVME SSD so much more speed and bandwidth than regular so while like all computer parts will have revision, spec-wise it's pretty beefed up so it'll all depend on the software from here on out.
@@outlawgmr Even if you're going SATA 2 vs SATA 3, going from HDD 5400/7200rpm to SSD will make a good difference. Check this video and others as well as reviews online of countless users shaving off a good amount of time off their loadtimes. It will also depend on the game as some games have their loadtimes embedded onto the loading screen as previous generation consoles have shown when replaced with SSDs. Not only does SSD reduces load times but it also reduces some noise and heat. Even some SSHD shows some benefits over a regular HDD as once loaded a few times on cache it will load a little bit faster. Now PS5 may be a different story as it will use NVME SSD as opposed to SATA SSD and then once developers stop hard coding loadtimes onto loading screens then it can load as fast as PC games #pcmasterrace but if you're not seeing the benefit of an SSD over an HDD on your PS4 then thats unfortunate. So to answer the previous question, is there much point when the PS5 is around the corner? Yes for better load times and enjoying your games faster. If its going to cost you an arm and a leg then no, its best to save up for the PS5 when it comes end of the year? also expect it to be priced slightly higher than last gens MSRP as the specs are slightly beefier... well.. by beefier the performance should be like last years AMD Zen 2 and NVME pushed by PCIE4, should be interesting though.
@@Specialist7 Not one single person having an ssd in thier ps4 including the Pro has faster load times including those like myself who have games installed on said ssd Faster startup, sleep etc perhaps but still not worth it

My load times are super fast!! Woooohoooooo ☺️
Doing this upgrade today... got the new Xbox and the SSD speeds make the PS4 Pro seem pedestrian. No chance of finding a P55 in stock anytime soon, so getting a 2TB SSD delivered this very afternoon!
Just got my 1st paystation4 pro, got the Crucial ssd to load, I am 70 yo, I can use all the help I can get. I want to just slip it in and use a ubs to finish it up, but having hard time using usb. I would think it would much simpler to do this operation then the new sss is empty, the hhd has the info, why cant they just transfer one to the other.
When you format the USB (Make sure it has nothing important on it, because it will be erased) make sure to format it with FAT32. Also You need to create two folders in all caps. Then you need to place the update file that you download into the correct folder. It's not too bad to do. If you want to backup and restore your saved games and data then you need an additional external USB drive with enough storage. You can do the backup under settings, then restore when you have the new hard drive installed with the new operating system.
I notice in some videos on UA-cam that for those who are upgrading their hard drive that are missing a few key steps to update the Software. I had to find out this myself, that you need to create a folder labeled PS4/UPDATE/ with the PS4UPDATE.PUP file for re-installation from PlayStation website in order for it to load the software correctly. After that, I am now able to restore my PS4. Having to upgrade my HDD to 2TB SSD was the best decision I made. Load time for games will be more smooth and better now. Great video, and always of fan of Samsung products!
Agreed. It's so stupid that Microsoft only allows users to upgrade their controllers to a rechargeable battery pack BUT NOT officially allow users to upgrade their internal storage (IT CAN be done actually if you know how to use cloning software to clone HDD data to a SSD).
You can actually put the update file on the new drive and not the reinstallation file? Im a bit surprised. Your video was lacking some information about loading the software. You did not indicate you need to go into safemode, I would have liked your video to also include how to load the file on a USB drive etc.etc. Would of been nice to see a complete video.
Yes very true I was trying to figure where he left off during safe mode. So I'm buying the evo it comes in 5 days trying to figure out should I Initialise my PS4 pro with the old HDD Then pull it out and once I install the Evo should I put it in safe mode and initialised or should I install software 1st
@@montoyanathan60 I would shut the PlayStation completely down. Unplug it remove the drive put in your new Drive. Then boot into safe mode and do reinstallation and of course have the reinstallation file from Sony ready to go and set up on your USB drive.
I would like to see a comparison between the QVO and EVO SSD's. I was under the impression that consoles won't get the full benefit out of an SSD due to the limitations on CPU. I would say that the QVO with 300 odd mb/s transfer would get similar results to the more expensive EVO.
the biggest bottleneck is the horrendously slow hard drive within the PS4 console. That's why even just putting games on an external mechanical hard drive will load them faster, because even USB 2.0 speeds will load faster than the internal drive.
i actually called Samsung before upgrading. i needed to know the difference. in short, the EVO is geared for read & write. the QVO is geared for storage.
I play Warzone online with a guy on a pc and a guy on a ps5. Both of them load up a lot faster than my ps4 Pro and I have played there pc and ps5 and there in game graphics load up faster and are clearer and the game play is generally smoother. Without going out and buying a new gaming pc or ps5, What up grades should I consider to help with this?
You should do a side by side comparison video of the updated ps4 pro vs ps5 load times, alot of people would get shocked at the fact the load times are similar
I have the same SSD but for some reason whats wrong but everytime i install the USB i keep getting a error message cannot find the updated file i followed the instructions correctly
Hey mate, thanks for the video! Just got myself an EVO as well and it all went without problems. Would have done it far earlier if i knew it`s that easy. :) Now i just need to wait until Iceborne is installed again to test those dope new loading times.
Trust me, the upgrade is wroth it. I did it myself with a Samsung 860 1TB and it is SO MUCH FASTER. Ghost of Tsushima is like 8 seconds to fast travel across the map lol. Worth it do it.
@Follow the howl I was guesstimating. I didn't benchmark but I found the times to be much quicker in many games. The process of doing it is easy and it helps greatly with load times. PS5 doesn't look like it's going to be available anytime soon so may as well make the best of it! Now if I could just fix my loud ass fan.
This was very useful, plan to do exactly all that today. When it comes to loading time comparison, not sure if less than half is correct, though. Did you compare loading time of the same positions? Fast travel doesn't last same amount of loading time on different locations. Loading in a city may take 45sec while loading on some open plains may take 30sec or indoors 25sec, so I hope your comparison of loading checkpoint matched ;)) Anyway, thanks for step-by-step on how to swap HDD to SSD and restore backed up data. Cheers!
you should of showed the steps to download the new OS i downloaded the wrong file and teared my hair out for hours trying to figure it out, you have to download the file for a clean install i didnt check properly
My ps is so slow right now and every few minutes/hours it tells me “the data is corrupted please restart your PlayStation”, do you think I have to replace my harddrive to fix this issue or is there other solutions to this problem?
try booting up in safe mode and rebuilding database. turn it completely off. press and hold the power button until you hear the 2nd beep. hardwire your controller and go to the 4th option I believe. rebuild data base might say it’ll take 3hrs but it’s usually a few minutes or so. that’s how long mine took on a ps4 with stock HDD. it sped up my ps4 by quite a bit. I recommend doing it at least once a week. hope it helps
I want to put in an ssd into my ps4 pro but I've read a lot of poor reviews about the Samsung Evo? Apparently it works great but it doesn't last. Who has put it or another 1tb ssd in and how has it held up? Thanks.
So will this help with holding 60 FPS in games like Apex Legends? This is a problem I've since forever, my PS4 Slim drops to 35 FPS mid-fights and if I could hold a solid 60, would make life so much better
Was on the fence about upgrading my PS4 pro with an SSD knowing that the system cannot take full advantage of SSD speed due to hardware limitations. After countless hours of research and UA-cam videos, I finally made the jump and threw in a 1tb Samsung 860 evo. I can confirm that the load time improvements mentioned in the video above match each title and at times even come in a second or two faster. The system is snappier and more responsive and rendering issues in some games have even improved. Overall, a good choice with slight improvements. Completely smokes the OG PS4 when comparing load times together and is a good way to get a little taste of the future with the PS5 just around the corner.
@@zlft Apply a better thermal paste than generic ones. My PS4 slim still sounded like a jet even after recently cleaned so I bought a better thermal paste and it didn't sound loud anymore.
The reason for that is the lack of TRIM support. By overprovisioning with a larger drive you go longer before hitting write slow downs from write amplification and trimming. Many claim "modern SSDs have garbage collection" yes they do, but if they aren't filesystem aware they won't know what is garbage. It's a bit like having the ability to defragment, but never using it
@@zyawillis8040 it's amazing since the SSD in PS3 acts as virtual ram, and even better if the SSD has a large RAM cache in the memory controller, smooths out frames and load times.

This is great. Thanks. I assume you can back your entire system and games to a USB thumb drive, and restore from it? Don't want to buy extra PS4 cloud space, 🙂
Yes, it's safe and worth doing since it can cost less than $60 these days to get a new HD and reload the software. You can use an external HD to backup or if you pay for the plus you can just make sure all your saves are uploaded.
Do I really need to have a laptop or pc to do this why can’t I just take out my internal hard drive put the new one in and done and just update my ps4 and download my stuff from online

Plus, because I'm a year behind everyone else, the new QVO 870 is out for $10 less than the WD AND it's only 1% slower than the EV 860! Bonus!
Thanks for the upgrades Samsung!
Just a quick heads up for anyone that wishes to be a long term PS4 user still
I recommend that you install and download all your games to a big internal or external SSD if you have loads of games in your PS library because there could be a case where PS4 games are no longer available to download. Seems like an overkill but, worth it if you can afford like a huge 8TB SSD. I will lol when I can afford one
Haha, I liked this video because you called yourself a weirdo. 😂
And the video was very informative.

Very important factor is the enormous improvement while using the ps4 menu for example closing apps an opening other menus.
that ssd costs about the same as my ps4 itself lmao

My ps4 pro actually broke when it couldn't finish an update and I always got an error message. Took it to a pc repair shop they suggested I switch to a samsung ssd. I don't have it back yet but can't wait to play and see the difference.
I actually used 1TB 860 QVO drive, mostly because it was cheaper and still much faster than the original HD. This was an early PS4 which was heavily used.
Your doubly smart because the With the PS4 pro hardware setup you won’t see any difference from the QVO drive and the normal 860
Eric Hall is that really so?
I threw a 2TB evo into my PS4Pro when it first released. Love the load times you shoulda threw some Square Enix titles in there to test. Load screen is literally just a blink
Junior I about to receive a 2tb QVO myself in the mail
Here is what I did:
I had a 250GB 850 EVO SSD laying around. Thats what i put into my PS4 Pro and were I installed the Playstation Firmware + a few games.
The boost in perfomance IS indeed significant and really impressed me.
Playstation menu e.g. is much smoother.
The 1TB Playstation HDD i then used as an external drive.
Dude Thank you, I'm gonna do the very same. My xbox series s is super fast but now its time to Focus on upgrading my PS4.
Nice easy upgrade for peeps there dude. Was great video just purely to see the excitement on your face with those times.
Thanks for sharing. Worked flawlessly.
This is what I use in my PS4 Pro. It’s a 1TB 860 and I use an external 8TB HDD western digital
Are ssd not better for the pro?
So as for the external. It will still go faster because the internal SDD is installed?
Bro because of You i did it and didn’t regret lol
but i put Pro version of 860 1TB on my death stranding limited edition ps4 pro, and its sooo fast bro lol almost the same as ps5 for real, just a second difference
Is there much point when the PS5 is just around the corner?....I mean an ssd drive still isn’t cheap, a Samsung 860 QVO is £100 for a 1TB drive,
Yes and No, you could have slow loadtimes till PS5 comes out or you can have faster load times now lol I guess something to last you a while...

No & no
Although a ssd will work in a ps4,
The ps4 doesn't have the capability to benefit from the faster read/write speeds of a ssd
Btw my ps4 pro has an
860 1tb Samsung SSD inside atm

Not one single person having an ssd in thier ps4 including the Pro has faster load times including those like myself who have games installed on said ssd
Faster startup, sleep etc perhaps but still not worth it

My PS4 Pro is much faster now. much quicker graphical rendering thanks to you,...

Nice one - great instruction on the HDD removal! But what an expensive upgrade to make for very little time saved!
It adds up a lot over time though. Kind of a waste of 100 bucks but if you play a lot its pretty nice.
Doing this upgrade today... got the new Xbox and the SSD speeds make the PS4 Pro seem pedestrian.
No chance of finding a P55 in stock anytime soon, so getting a 2TB SSD delivered this very afternoon!
And the ps4 is still a beast of a console, until more ps5 games come out then it’ll be 100% worth it imo
Is this a joke? Not trying to be mean, but I just saw a lot of mistakes like ubs, sss, hhd, and what you said about transferring info to the other.
Did you need to format the SSD prior to installing it in the ps4?
Always loved the ease of upgrading internal storage on PS, Xbox is a train wreck if trying to upgrade internally.
Then boot into safe mode and do reinstallation and of course have the reinstallation file from Sony ready to go and set up on your USB drive.
if I have my games on an external hard drive, will replacing the internal get the same results?
Keep games on external ssd because you won’t have to reload them if something happened to the console
Now just need a video on how to install PlayStation software on new hard drive
I actually have it in my ps3 and ps4 and I am happy on how they perform to be honest

Isn’t it worse for downloaded games on ps3?
Youre about half a year late, got my 2TB but it was the most scary decision ever, glad i did it now, but you still could've saved me the headache. Lol
Evo is better qvo has bad speeds
i actually called Samsung before upgrading. i needed to know the difference. in short, the EVO is geared for read & write. the QVO is geared for storage.
I play Warzone online with a guy on a pc and a guy on a ps5. Both of them load up a lot faster than my ps4 Pro and I have played there pc and ps5 and there in game graphics load up faster and are clearer and the game play is generally smoother.
Cheers!

My ps is so slow right now and every few minutes/hours it tells me “the data is corrupted please restart your PlayStation”, do you think I have to replace my harddrive to fix this issue or is there other solutions to this problem?
Yes, your hard drive is failing
try booting up in safe mode and rebuilding database. turn it completely off. press and hold the power button until you hear the 2nd beep. hardwire your controller and go to the 4th option I believe. rebuild data base might say it’ll take 3hrs but it’s usually a few minutes or so. that’s how long mine took on a ps4 with stock HDD. it sped up my ps4 by quite a bit. I recommend doing it at least once a week. hope it helps
I want to put in an ssd into my ps4 pro but I've read a lot of poor reviews about the Samsung Evo? Apparently it works great but it doesn't last. Who has put it or another 1tb ssd in and how has it held up? Thanks.
I just upgraded mine. It works great with an SSD. I upgraded to a 2TB drive loving the extra storage.

Those on lower firmware ,can they find the required old firmware version online ?
For everyone else who has upgraded theirs- what size device did you do the backup to? Sony recommends 2x the storage of the hdd you’re replacing?
The reason for that is the lack of TRIM support. By overprovisioning with a larger drive you go longer before hitting write slow downs from write amplification and trimming. Many claim "modern SSDs have garbage collection" yes they do, but if they aren't filesystem aware they won't know what is garbage. It's a bit like having the ability to defragment, but never using it
