I hate to sound like my dad, but the music of today doesn't hold a candle to groups like Chicago. Their brass section was phenomenal. They have always ranked as one of my all-time favorite bands.

Peter has a very strong voice for a tenor singer...one of the strongest ever. It can start sounding weak after performing several songs in a concert. He is a very rare talent with something incredible like a 5 octave vocal range in his prime.

Fascinating. I can't sing or know anything about singing. I'm a drummer.
Just curious if you were someone may answer this question for me. This seemed to be a prevalent practice in the 80s and 90s. What was it called exactly towards the end of the song where they would go up (I guess an octave?) while singing the same words, I'm assuming for dramatic effect, but it seemed to become a staple for a long time in pop songs.

Songs now can be good, but there is nothing that I can say I will feel in my soul and 30 or 40 years from now. Chicago!

I saw Chicago live once in 1979 in New Zealand. First concert I ever went to. Loved it. They unexpectedly played the Beatles "Got To Get You into my life" and with all the necessary brass plus Pete Cetera's tenor vocals they did a great version of it. Even better was that another music festival was on at the same time and most of the hoons had gone there meaning that Chicago concert was relaxed and uncrowded.

I will make it up to you
    I promise to
And after all that's been said and done
You're just the part of me I can't let go
Couldn't stand to be kept away
    Just for the day
    From your body
Wouldn't want to be swept away
    Far away
From the one that I love
    Hold me now
It's hard for me to say I'm sorry
I just want you to know
    Hold me now
I really want to tell you I'm sorry
I could never let you go
After all that we've been through
I will make it up to you
    I promise to
And after all that's been said and done
You're just the part of me I can't let go
After all that we've been through
I will make it up to you
    I promise to
You're gonna be the lucky one
When we get there gonna jump in the air
No one'll see us 'cause there's nobody there
After all, you know we really don't care
Hold on, I'm gonna take you there

Peter Cetera's voice is unique with a catchie tone. And, in my eyes he will always be the best. "I just want you to know."

I'm glad this includes "Get Away", which IS a part of the tune. So many DJS, as well as VJS make the mistake of not including "Get Away" when they play this. Thanks, guys!

After 1980 the music industry went downhill on talent. Chicago is timeless and the absolute BEST band ever to create music.

Gotta agree. Sometimes I will just listen to "hard to say I/m sorry" because" Get Away", to best of my knowledge, can't ever be heard unless at conclusion of that song. Released together in '76, the horns in "Get Away" just blow my mind.

@MrLen1955 I couldn't agree with you any more! PETER CETERA WAS Chicago!
They are a mere shadow of what they were with his DYMANIC voice, writing, singing, and stage presence. Poor Jason really TRIES, but just can't quite make it!

I saw them back in the early 90's minus Cetera, but it was great. The trombone player performed at that concert. The horns are what makes Chicago such a great band.

@@samanasif6042 great performer, musician, arranger: Great qualities!
His intense jealousy of Peter Cetera lead him to being a bitter old man with a thriving grudge. Bad character flaw!

@moodylicious Cetera, Lamm, and Pankow were geniuses in their own right, but its sad that the latter two still resents Peter to this day.

Thanks to WMG we'll never see the actual music videos of any of the Chicago songs. Just Live. Live is fine, but man, nothing can beat the recordings of these wonderful hits.
