Bill is one of the most underrated musicians who’s lived, imo. I had the honor of meeting him on his way to a show in Boston. He stopped, took a pic with me, talked, and headed off. A talented musician and a class act.
i don't think I've heard a better Look Away! Bill masterfully caresses, cries and growls out unsurpassed vocals. Dawayne's guitar work is majestic! Jesus! The entire band knocks this out of the park! And how bout the way he makes eye contact with all across the front row, locks seductive eyes on some lucky person and sings in a breathless voice. slays it!
When Peter Cetera left Chicago I thought the band was over but Bill Champlin came in and the band born again, what a fantastic voice of this man and 2 or 3 songs became a total hits around the world.
Great song, great lyrics, and every member of the band is absolutely on song, but Bill Champlin's vocals are the icing on the cake, so much emotion. Brilliant, thanks for posting.
This is by far Bill's best live performance and his best lead vocal for Chicago. He kept this band alive after Peter left. I didn't care for his 'scatting' in later years and changing the tune of the song, but honestly I think he was just board singing things the same way every night.
Peter Cetrea was gone by 1985. Jason Scheff was the vocalist from 1985-2016. This Sing was song by Bill Chaplain in 1988. for Chicago 19. Made Billboard 1 Hit for 1989
This was my favorite line up with Bill, Jason, and Bailey rocking Chicago until the Brass and Lamm decided to hire karaoke singers and house band players.
I love the way Bill performs. He is a masterful singer and sure uses a great range, and such powerful feelings are in each single note. Cutie. Looks way different from Sons of Champlin!
Yes, he's got good movement and knows how to project his voice Kurt Russell happens to be my favorite actor from childhood. I saw him when he was a teenager in all his Disney films. Kurt is more rugged now and I do see a flash of him in Bill! Both cool dudes!
IF yous guys like Bill Champlin check out his first band The Sons of Champlin first Lp Loosin up Naturally and Circle Filled with Love (similar to Chicago songs like Look Away) and Bills solo Lp Runaway
Thank you Bill. This was a treat to watch. You’re overall look, growling voice, passion and range on this song are A+++. Have heard the recording version many times over the years since the 80s and this is my new all time favorite by Chicago or anyone in it. I have this saved on loop. Thank you for this performance!! Very special. Kids , this is a great example of 80s music that those of us old to remember cherish. i think Simon Cowell would of given you golden ticket for this
Oscar Bolanos, you feel old. I was 9 when this song was released and it's my favorite by any artist ever!!! I recently got tickets to see them in may and I am sooo excited!!!
Written by Diane Warren for Chicago. The song, which features Bill Champlin on lead vocals, topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in December 1988. This track was the top-ranked song on the 1989 year-end Billboard Hot 100 chart.. ♫♪♫♥
Peter Cetera left in 1985, this song was on Chicago 19 (1988) for those who are all screwed up Bill Champlin was the original singer on the album track. He is also singing in here live, The person who wrote this song is Ballad/Sap writer Diane Warren. Holy Shit how many times can you write a ballad and try to pass it off as something different. Chicago had a song from the 21 album called Chasin The Wind. Could care less about the lyrics!!! what makes the song is an absolute 10 out of 10 powerful vocal from Bill. Look Away pales in comparison.
Chasin' was supposed to be the follow-up to Look Away; same style and use of 8th notes; if you listen to the intro to each song they sound similar, plus there is a key change 2/3 into the song!
Always thought he made the perfect compliment to whoever the lead singer was at the time, and as someone suffering with hair loss, what a head of hair. 😳

@@Dboys122 dum dum, Peter Cetera didn't leave, he was fired. Do some research. They literally fired him via certified mail. The bad taste you have is believing the 1990's version of Chicago is anywhere near the level of the original. You should be banned for this take. Disgraceful. Love the Bill Champlin - Dawayne Bailey era of Chicago. Excellent live performers.
You forget jason

Being able to play piano and guitar is no small feat!

🥀This Guy singing this song has a very unique strong voice that sounds so amazing! He's unbelievable but incredible I love this song. 🥀☝️🥀
Chek out his old band THE SONS. Wow!!
Bill Champlin is the singer
The guy that does it now Lou Pardini I can’t stomach his vocals. He’s not bill.
When Peter Cetera left Chicago I thought the band was over but Bill Champlin came in and the band born again, what a fantastic voice of this man and 2 or 3 songs became a total hits around the world.
Bill came into the band in 1982 when Peter was still there.
What do you mean by “came in?” You know Cetera and Champlin did two albums together right? Maybe instead of came in you mean stepped up?
Honestly, there Has never been a better version of this song anywhere ever. Thank you Bill!
BEAUTIFUL BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great song, great lyrics, and every member of the band is absolutely on song, but Bill Champlin's vocals are the icing on the cake, so much emotion. Brilliant, thanks for posting.
It surprise for him join here cause after Terry kath died ask him join the band too replacwe he said, he could replace him!!!
🙏❤️🇸🇪
Just saw this, gives me the chills!!!!!!!!!!!! Great music!
Bill Chaplain is a very talented singer Him and Peter did the best duets together.
LIVE or not, i won't get tired listening to this song. awesome voice.
Live or not???????????????????
The Bill & Dawayne band....the most exciting version of Chicago.
Para mi después de Peter Cetera fue el mejor, lastima que en el documental de Netflix lo matan los compañeros
Sorry it's the Bill, Dawayne and Jason Band!!

I finally started to Love Chicago, when Bill Champlain started doing the lead singing! It was more my rock style!❤️
Love his voice

Bill was spot on singing this song! Such a talented musician! I’ve been listening to Chicago since the 1970’s.
one of the best live performances by anyone, period. I listen to everything from Metallica to the Bee Gees. Well done sir. Wish I had your hair too

This is the song which i play when my ex wife left me. I cry everytime when i play this song.
For me Bill, after Peter Cetera was the best, it hurts that in the Netflix documentary the teammates kill him
They are EVIL and PETTY. ESPECIALLY Jimmy Pankow. Pankow is a JERK with an INFLATED EGO !
@@tonyde52 Pankow was the least talented member of Chicago. In my opinion, Chicago died with Terry Kath.
Good version of this!
Quality quality, nuff said!
yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I never had much use for Chicago after the Kath years, but I must admit this is pretty damn good.
The greatest band ever...(with Bill and Jason)....and Tris.....
Ok with
that. Bill, Jason and Dawayne, The best band ever of Chicago.
Best lineup they had post Peter and Robert, Lee, Walt, and James threw it all away with their immature egos!

When you called me up this morning
Told me 'bout the new love you found
I said, "I'm happy for you"
I'm really happy for you
Found someone else
I guess I won't be comin' 'round
I guess it's over baby
It's really over baby, whoa-oh
And from what you said
I know you've gotten over me
It'll never be the way it used to be
So, if it's gotta be this way
Don't worry, baby, I can take the news, ok
But, if you see me walking by
And the tears are in my eyes
Look away, baby look away
And if we meet on the streets someday
And I don't know what to say
Look away, baby look away
Don't look at me
I don't want you to see me this way
When we both agreed as lovers
We were be better off as friends
That's how it had to be
Yeah, that's how it had to be
I tell you I'm fine
But sometimes I just pretend
Wish you were holding me
Wish you were still holding me, oh-oh, oh
I just never thought
That I would be replaced so soon
I wasn't prepared
To hear those words from you
I know I wanted to be free
Yeah, baby this is how we wanted it to be
But, if you see me walking by
And the tears are in my eyes
Look away, baby look away
And if we meet on the streets someday
And I don't know what to say
Look away, baby look away
Don't look at me
