I agree, Muneer. Many fans thought that Bill "riffed things up" too much, but he was so good on songs like this, be it with Jason, or in the older days with Peter, doing those call-and-response vocal numbers.
This is one of the most powerful sounds I ever heard ! The lyrics just more than an ear full! Changes in this song well arranged.. the HORNS are a KNOCK OUT,. God just a real impact!!!! 🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
What happened to Champlins Voice sounds horrible and this Scheff dude is awful as well! After Cetera left except for Album 18, 19 having a few good songs this group never recovered when Peter left.
@@Hawkeye62 Chicago wasn't the same after Cetera left because not only did Cetera take his voice, his presence and bass playing skills with him but the real dagger to Chicago's heart was Cetera's songwriting skills went with him too. Almost all of Chicago's post Cetera "singles" were written by outside writers. "What kind of man would I be " was the only song co-written by Jason Scheff that a member had a hit #5 on Billboard. What a come down for a band that criticized Cetera and Foster for basically SAVING IT.
@@normatible9795 Maybe by oversinging Champlin was showing everyone that he was NOT Terry Kath. Donnie Dacus sure couldn't win from losing. I could imagine if they brought in someone that looked, played guitar and sung like Terry, the guy would've gotten a beat down by massive fan rejection. Just saying.
A beautiful song by an incredible Band. Despite Terry Kath's tragic passing 34 years ago and Peter Cetera's departure 25 years ago, Jason and Keith are worthy successors. You can't keep comparing !! How do you compare Tom Jones at his peak against Engelbert Humperdink at his peak - You CAN'T !! They are both great in their own unique style.. So MOVE ON and enjoy the music of Chicago in 2003. THIS LINE-UP IN 2003 WAS FANTASTIC !!
Gr8 point. Scheff and Keith were fantastic in concert. I live how these groups can make the changes and keep on taking us down memory lane and they can still earn their income.
I thought Jason and Bill were outstanding in this, and Jimmy, Walter and Lee are their usual incredible selves. I don't know that there has been or ever will be a better three-person horn section anywhere.
Greg, there's no question about Dawayne's greatness, but honestly, I always thought he was a little too "shred" for this band. Keith was a perfect fit and I think always made an effort to keep the "Terry vibe", where appropriate, in his guitar playing.
Something always funny to me is Howland - the guitar player who gets such little love but does a great job! - really looks like he could be a crossbreed of Cetera and Scheff - the chin and the hair.....
I thought I heard Cookie Monster until I recognised Robert Lamm. Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff were definitely the best vocal duo of Chicago after Cetera left. Without their vocals, the band is just pure noise.
I've seen Chicago in their many persona's, and I still prefer the original group, when Terry Kath was still alive and Peter Cetera was still with the group.
Good Lord, that was a truly beautiful performance. I always loved the way Walt kind of bobbed and swayed while he played the sax. Best wishes to him, as I understand he's now challenged with Alzheimer's.
Yes, he’s had it for 3 1/2 years. The group all started at his parents house when he was a newlywed. He graduated from DePaul University, my Alma Mater. Peace, Robin
Great rendition and much better than what “Chicago” puts out on stage today. Anyone who would pay to see that cover band has too much disposable income.
This is why didn’t go to Chicago concerts for 30 years. (I strongly suspect I can hear a cat being tortured backstage during this song… oh wait, that’s Bill!)
Omg Bill Champlin murdered this. He sounds like a goose being strangled. Both he and Jason desecrated such a great song. Robert Lamm should have sang this instead. Champlin and Scheff only sound good in the studio. Lamm is flawless live and acts like a professional. Shocking to see vocals like this from such a class act band.
The 2 best Singers chiacgo ever had! Their best stuff was from when Bill joined the group up til Jason left! Now they sound like a cover band..... just not a fan if their current line up
I don't understand - Robert Lamm did not want to record and play ballads (he called them "crap") After Cetera and Foster left, they have continued playing ballads. It was a perfect time to transition out of them with a new singer and all, but no...
As usual Bill "over sings". He has such a soulful voice. I don't understand why he just doesn't sing it like it was meant to be sound. I think he was bored. That's why he "oversings" everything.
I love Bill don't get me wrong but this was painful to get through listening to him over singing......... I just don't understand where that comes from..... Sometimes people over sing to compensate for something they don't have and in bills case that's clearly not the case he doesn't lack............ So he's obviously doing this for other reasons and hate to break the news to him but it doesn't sound good to me
It’s because these guys sing this song thousands of times and they’ll do anything to make it fun for themselves. Can you imagine? Some of you out there are musicians. You know what it’s like to play or sing the same song over and over and over again. And they have no choice because you fans pay money to see them play the same songs. That’s why bands do different gimmicky things like bring up audience members to play an instrument, or have a full orchestra behind them, or make an acoustic version of the song, or etc…
We'll be lucky to see Cetera and Chicago in the same town. Assuming for a moment they were playing in close proximity, it's doubtful Cetera would make a cameo without some sort of contract and compensation. Cetera is about as done with Chicago as he was when he left in '85. If, on the off chance, he did drop in, it would be purely to satisfy his own ego. He had been the one single guy in a musical marriage since Kath died and he loves his single life. He's been offered limited tour dates with Chicago in the past and has repeatedly turned them down. Peter will not give Chicago fans what they've been begging for unless it's Peter's idea. That's just how he rolls.
I can't really be forgotten this one.
Me too! Great song!
Jason and Bill are great.. Love u guys.. One of my fav. Song ever
I agree, Muneer. Many fans thought that Bill "riffed things up" too much, but he was so good on songs like this, be it with Jason, or in the older days with Peter, doing those call-and-response vocal numbers.
This is a very beautiful song by the singing group Chicago.
I love your rendition!!!
You make this song even more memorable !
Best time for this band. They were really good during this time.
You're so right, Earl! If Terry (R.I.P.), Peter, and Danny had to be gone, then THIS configuration was the next best thing, in my view!
This is one of the most powerful sounds I ever heard ! The lyrics just more than an ear full! Changes in this song well arranged.. the HORNS are a KNOCK OUT,. God just a real impact!!!! 🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Allow me to second that, Tee!
Great live version by a great line up of talented musicians. Champlin was a pillar in the Chicago mix.
He was indeed, Jo! Contributed VERY nicely to their first couple of Christmas albums, too, as I recall ("What Child Is This?", for instance).
Beautiful song by 8 musical geniuses.. That brass complements all the other instruments. Nobody makes music like this today.
Toto
Santana
Do great livs concerts today
Scheff and Champlin are a brilliant duet In this song . Different styles yet such a great blend.
Muchas gracias por todo maravillosa musica

As usual. BillI Champlain is “ over singing “. The real Chicago was Terry Kath, Peter cetera and the 3 horn section guys

Timeless! No auto tune
during my high school years in the early 1970s, "Chicago" was my favorite.
Still my all time favorite!
Mine too ! In the 70s my hi school years , were spent seeing as many concerts as we could , we saw these guys 3-4 and times ! Fun times
i really luv this song...
this song made me cry..beautiful and meanigful lyrics.. :(
CHICAGO FOREVER!
Ive enjoyed every different roster of Chicago through the years. In the end it's all about the music.
So true, Robert! So true!
Me too.... Very well put...
The quality is just flawless! Thank you!
Look at Jason with his baby face. Wish he was still with Chicago. Such a great voice
The best! My favorite.

Danny Got Fired in 1990
@@aarontrainor9918 The crazy thing was Danny brought David Foster in to help keep the band together because they were falling apart and doing drugs
Gr8 point. Scheff and Keith were fantastic in concert. I live how these groups can make the changes and keep on taking us down memory lane and they can still earn their income.
Love these songs. And I love Jason hair cut
❤❤❤❤❤
They all sound good together to me. And they look GREAT.
I love Chicago music
I thought Jason and Bill were outstanding in this, and Jimmy, Walter and Lee are their usual incredible selves. I don't know that there has been or ever will be a better three-person horn section anywhere.
100% agree, Tom!
This was the best Chicago Band.period.Joe
In what world?
Awesome music band💯👍
The Best Chicago!

Chicago forever in❤
Love thus band
Bill Champlin and Dawayne Bailey are the best thing happened in
CHICAGO!
Greg, there's no question about Dawayne's greatness, but honestly, I always thought he was a little too "shred" for this band. Keith was a perfect fit and I think always made an effort to keep the "Terry vibe", where appropriate, in his guitar playing.
melhor época da minha vida saudades

Amo esta canción tanto que me identifico.
Sublime!
Jason awesome as always!
Jason and Bill. Great!!!❤
When you there you make us smile

Still listening August 1, 2021
What an awesome band ❤❤❤
Beautiful
Jason and Bill nailed it. Listening to them is a hard habit to break.
I thought I heard Cookie Monster until I recognised Robert Lamm. Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff were definitely the best vocal duo of Chicago after Cetera left. Without their vocals, the band is just pure noise.
Forever and ever

DITTO!
Fabulous
There's only ONE Chicago ever !
Gran cantante
FOREVER........
"But Ding Burn in Dine" at 2:16? What was that, Bill??
The replacement guys had a tough act to follow! Nobody can replace Terry, Peter, and Danny- but they did a great job!
This is the best Chicago tribute band I’ve seen
I can't tell if you're joking or not...😂 This is the real Chicago lineup from 2003.
Ouch!
Un gran tema
Superb
I think bill and Jason did alright.
Funny how its a lot of people who spent 5:15 listening to this, only to put it down and complain.
TOP NOTCH
I didn’t know that was Bill Champlin belting that growling voice. Such a beautiful song.
Seriously... My Favorite Chicago song...NO...Mother of God
1:26 Is somebody trying to land an airplane or something???
david stanley No, that's the conductor leading the band.
Haha....great comment.
It's painful...
Whew. This is brutal to listen too.
not bad - miss peter but also miss bill and jason also- alot better than what they have today
R u kidding me? This is Champlin "earning his day job". He's so much better than the C word. Aloha. DaHonu
why do i feel that the 2 singers are shouting at each other, seems like the 2 are fighting, quarelling
I have to agree with some of the previous commenters, it is a bit oversung. Lamm's backup vocals are the only parts not oversung.
Wish Bill would sing it like he did in 1984. This version is atrocious. I know Chicago travels a ton but I didn't realize they came to Korea.
I agree. You’re not the first one I’ve heard say he sounded awful and tries to over sing.
man champlin ...ouch and what a bass sound !
Still remember like yesterday hearing the sad news about Terry Kath..
This is why didn’t go to Chicago concerts for 30 years. (I strongly suspect I can hear a cat being tortured backstage during this song… oh wait, that’s Bill!)

hissyfit2508 champlin is always doin too much.
Age works wonders on the voice when your in your 70's!!
hissyfit2508 dying over the goose being strangled comment! 😂😂😂
Bill is really off here - but on most versions he is beyond terrific
Great song writer, very talented....don't see your punk ass on stage, douchebag
The 2 best Singers chiacgo ever had! Their best stuff was from when Bill joined the group up til Jason left! Now they sound like a cover band..... just not a fan if their current line up
Recording level is very high!!!
Champlin unleashed! Chicago: Bill, you think you can sing somewhat like the original recording? Bill: Yes
Bill: Just a few extra riffs here and there, okay?
Love Jason
I don't understand - Robert Lamm did not want to record and play ballads (he called them "crap") After Cetera and Foster left, they have continued playing ballads. It was a perfect time to transition out of them with a new singer and all, but no...
Muy bueno
this sounds more powerful live. wish they had it in dobly.
I love the Champlin shit
Bill Champlain rules!
Not bad at all👏
As usual Bill "over sings". He has such a soulful voice. I don't understand why he just doesn't sing it like it was meant to be sound. I think he was bored. That's why he "oversings" everything.

Haha so true. Just too bad. I like his recorded voice but somehow his ad-libbing just didn't feel right, not with this version anyway.
Bugs me everytime. People try to sing along....and he kills the mood. Reminds me of anthem singers, who can't stick to the melody.

Sometimes he just tries way to hard. Just sing the song!
I know what you mean..I'll forgive him though..classic song by a classic band.

Jason seems to had some kind of pain when he sings.
He just really didn't have the voice to do the Cetera classics. Simply couldn't.

Someone needed to turn off Champlin's mic! He drowns out Jason. Bill does to many embellishments with his voice!!!!!
