“Budget friendly” as “your project has a budget” :) there’s lots of old vintage m42, and other mounts… or cine stuff from e.g. Meike or Siriu though if cheaper cine is the goal. My entire Meike MFT set cost me about the same as one or 1.5 of these lenses back in the day, but they only cover tiny sensor.
Good review Brandon, agree with most of your points. However, it drives me absolutely crazy that they sent the M-mount version to reviewers and are refusing to sell those versions at this point. I WANT to buy them in M mount so I can use them on my SL2 and on Fuji GFX sensors as the whole set covers in the stills versions. But they are only selling them in E mount at the moment.
Wasn't really thinking about using Cine lenses for stop motion, but given that I need manual aperture and since I need to be able to manually set my focus I think these are a great option.
Hey Brandon! Your comment around lens mount play, while a real thing I've experienced with other systems, isn't what you're experiencing here... in your demonstration of lens play with the focus motor it's clear the whole camera is moving, not just the lens. The problem you're facing (unless just not accurately demonstrated) is that your camera, cage and rods aren't solid, and that's where the movement is coming from. I'm hoping to be the case, as I am waiting for the M version of these lenses even though I only have E-mount cameras.
Hi Eli! You're correct in that I might not have picked the best shot to demonstrate this accurately in hindsight. You might also be right about the cage and rods not being perfect when I did this specific shot. However this isn't an isolated occurrence for me on the Sony set-up used in the shot. I experienced this on my XH2-S as well. This hasn't occurred for me with adapted PL lenses with the exact same rig otherwise. I should clarify also that I don't think this is the lenses fault. But more a reality whenever you are adapting lenses in general. It's also a solvable issue through a combination of a well rigged set-up, correct torque setting on the motor, and a high quality adapter. I was just noting it as a reality of making a cinema lens this small. Mirrorless "cinema" camera set-ups run into small quality of life snags like this all the time but you can get around them. I don't think the M-Mount versions are a bad choice because of this single issue but it's something I think is important to know when choosing the more future proof set.

When I heard the suggestion of budget friendly lenses, I wasn't thinking $900 a lens. 😮
its competition is $9,000 a lens :)
APO lenses are not cheap, 900$ is pretty good for this quality
I would say the closest competition are the SP3 lenses by cooke they are 5k per maybe nisi also which are 1.5k per

I didn't see play in the lens mount there. I saw play in the camera cage. Sony FX users don't have that problem.
good review, I ordered mine a few weeks ago. Excited to get them in. I want a 105 and 135 added to the list

She impresses me every day!
I bought the Rokinon 35 t/1.5 and 85 t/1.5 for $100 each second hand! Curious if this Thypoch lenses are better for me to upgrade :D
How did you get the thumbnail shot? It looks great
EF is still very well used. Too bad they don’t have them in this mount option.

I went to the comments to say this too. Hope it was just a fluke in the connection of the camera with the cage here
