That's my song in the background at the beginning! Rework of a Dusty Boots track. Thanks for using it
That’s sickkk
SO GOOD
Going through your bandcamp, not seeing this song. Love the music on there tho!
@@rarefactionmedia its not on bandcamp but it is on streaming!! and musicbed 🦭
Such a great song
Pro tip for young filmmakers.. stop worrying about gear. Stop chasing the dragon. Gear from 10 years ago is perfectly fine.
If you want to be a filmmaker, learn storytelling. Write write write.
Cameras from 10 years ago are fine and lenses from 50-60-70 years ago are even better!
barber: what can I do for you?
Spenser: you know those follow focus gears?
barber: say no more
Just remember folks, these channels are modern camerastores nowadays. Superlatives and praises for dollars
Everyone on YT is a Chinese lens salesman now haha
That’s true but they have examples of shots they did , there’s making that up
But but but, you said the Athena nisi was the best lens ever. 😂
true, because they also have minimal breathing (Simeras do breathe)
@@_rhapsodist this is why I love it when Tubers flip flop with new gadgets. Best lens ever, then 1 month later, Best lens ever forreal. 😂
"No." - rear VND/E-END users.
CORRECTION* - M mount isn’t out yet. It will be released at an upcoming date.
Shooting my first feature film - ua-cam.com/video/VN99axWi0G4/v-deo.html
I got the opportunity to review the full set! I can confirm the 75 is the best of the bunch and is also the sharpest! Although it is more prone to flaring but only slightly.
Great video man!
The image looks great, and I love the color grading. Thank you for sharing this review
Fantastic! They need to do this for L mount. Dream kit with Pyxis for me
Get M mount and adapt. then you're not locked into a single mount.
Love the image already 😮
I want to see these compared to the Dulens APO Mini Primes
Such great set! I had the 28 for a few weeks now & it easily became my fav lens! Can't wait to see the 21mm!
Would you recommend these lenses for weddings?
@ 100% if you trust your manual focus skills :)
The character of this lens is BEAUTIFUL! Sharp but not clinical edge to edge ;)
@ I’ve shot a lot on my Canon 50 FD and used volightlander lenses for my GH5 and GH4 for my wedding scenes as B and C cams. My A cam is Sony FX6. Which focal length would you get?
Dude congrats on the feature!!
It's incredible! Lenses that were originally made as an alternative to Leika are considered cheap and low-quality as soon as they were transferred to other cases.
In general, before information about these new summicron-style lenses appeared, I was thinking of making a full-fledged rehouse of my standard lomo lenses (the latest ones). But now I'm thinking.
a little tipp for sony users: Buy the leica m mount version and get the close focus adapter for easy makro shots
Great video. I love the look it’s exactly what I was after for RF mount FF. This might be my new alternative to the IronGlass set to get that Helios look in a cine housing.
I think I could put a DSLR lens on a Venice and be blown away somehow.
I'm happy with just using my modded vintage lenses for video... BUT, I would totally throw money I don't have at a couple of these! If they ever make them for Fujifilm X mount that is. I dig them a ton! Plus, it would be nice to have some lenses from the 21st century! Most of mine are from the 70's...
Wow these are actually pretty affordable, great look on the 35mm. The 50mm actually looks too sharp compared to the other lenses, but I’m sure most people wouldn’t notice.
would you pick this set over the vespid primes?
I use the 28mm stills version at the moment and love it, hits all the criteria I like in a lens, so I am KEEN to see the cine set!
Would love to see you review the DZOFilm Arles lenses.
Man, as soon as I saw these in photo lens style I liked it a lot. They are like improved, brand new Leica R Summilux lenses. When I saw they are doing cinema style lenses I finally made my decision and I ended my several months quest for the best video lenses. And now seeing you agree it is just an additional confirmation, as I liked all the same lenses you liked before.
Thanks!
nooo, i need that M mount
These lenses look amazing. I’m guessing that lens mount are not user replaceable (which is a shame, I’m sure most people would definitely pay extra for a kit of extra mounts).
With that said, the M mount appears to be the more appealing option if they retain the same close focusing capability.
M 0.8 lenses have the exact same optics as the M Summilux Aspherical lenses. In contrast, the Thypoch lenses don't look like Leica Summilux ASPH to me. Additionally the chromatic aberration on the Thypoch 35mm is significant, comparable to what you'd find with Schneider Xenon cine lenses.
Around 7:28 your said you compared them to the Dulens, is there footage of that comparison? All i can see in the video is the Arles comp. Great Video btw, Spencer :)
It didn’t fit so I left it out 😅 Dulens just are a bit sharper and have wild flares comparatively
I hope they release these in PL (or EF) mount. Otherwise they're a no-go for me.
Designed for short flange distance. So that won’t happen
@@spensersakurai That's unfortunate. I guess I'll stick with my Meikes for the time being.
Was looking for this. I was looking at the still version of these in comparison to the Leica lenses for an M camera. Ended up with the Summilux-m 50mm, which is amazing for the reasons you mentioned here, sharp but still swirly/character. The Thypoch versions are really only the slightest notch down in quality for a much lower price.
Was looking at getting a the still version of the 28mm, but with the Cine's out I'll have to go with those. I think they'll lose rangefinder coupling with the Leica M, but I can use them with an EVF/Liveview, but mostly going on the Komodo. I guess the Arles could be speedboosted, but these are so tiny and have that classic summilux character.
FYI, Summilux-c and summilux-m don't have the same look. M 0.8 is based on summilux-m (and Noctilux optional 50mm), and now they have those in a better body, the "Hugo" line. $15,000 a lens. Thypoch it is!
Sounds similar to my considerations. Cine-modding my Leica M lenses (24/28/35) or buying the Simera-C’s. I will wait for some more comparisons.
Hey Spencer, Did you use ND filters in front of these lenses ?
They seem like Goldilocks lenses - just right with a touch of magic, especially for the price
You should try the Dulens Triassic lenses. Only seen one video actually using them
they have a strong vignette!
Were those balloons in the intro filmed at the international balloon fiesta in New Mexico?
Yep!
Another awesome video. Very cool to go back and forth between your feature work and gear reviews. What camera and lens did you use for your interview?
Sony a7iv with the 35mm thypoch
@@spensersakurai Great to know. Your skills are on display even in a fixed interview setup. Am I correct that M mount lenses can't be adapted to L mount or EF mount cameras and any RF versions of these lenses will be considerably larger?
Great video I’m gonna give one a try. What was those single gimbal’s? They were using for them
have a video coming out soon using these on a rs4 pro
I have to use the Arles due to the PL
Great review of these lenses! Got a quick question though: how did you achieve the color grade on your talking head? Thanks in advance! 🙂
Kodak 2383 D55 film emulation in DaVinci Resolve with some tweaks
@@spensersakurai Thank you, man!
It’s probably the lighting you like more than the color.
@@CartyCantDance Lighting on this is excellent - but nope, I was actually looking for the "Kodak 2383"-look.
@@blinktwize Blaine westrop has a really fast and strong tutorial for the look in resolve
This is what alot a looking for for small great quality cine lens for gimbal work
I want this for the PYXIS. in L mount or EF mount
That look, for that price? What a time to be alive. Is the CA better than lets say a Zeiss Classic?
Wayyy better than Zeus’s classic
@@spensersakurai thanks bro!
❤❤ great Video man
Been looking for these to drop as I don’t have a consistent set anymore for my ronin 4d. These look amazing. Neutral, sharp, bright, lightweight, cheap, consistent color, with character. Minor issues would be focus breathing and filter thread size consistency. These issues are so minor. Was looking at the m.08 lenses after civil war movie but 8.5k price is wild. Great video. Makes me excited to get a hold of these! Where are you located by the way?
Oklahoma
@@spensersakurai Texas over here
Make PL versions and they've sold me.
I love how your hair makes you look like a medieval Henchman.
Same
Mount options are a bummer, hopefully they release a PL version (or even EF) since E isn’t very versatile across systems.
Trying to keep it small and light. M mount will adapt to anything basically. So that will be good.
Yay a new SS video! By the way, how do you get that yellow green bleach bypass color grade look of this video? Please don’t say a LUT. ❤🎉😂😅
I mean yeah using a LUT a colorist designed awhile back.
@@spensersakuraiok. It would be cool if you could show how to get that look. It’s nice! 👍
How do you compare them to the vespids in terms of sharpness?
Probably similar sharpness
Actually all 3 are 62mm thread except the 75 which is 67mm thread. 👍🏽
Have you seen some color shift between this lenses?
@@RecWaltfilm haven’t noticed it
You should compare it to the milvus or otus

Well I am ditching my Meikes FFS still have my 35mm 50mm 85mm I WAS eyeballing the close focus NOT vintage looking DULENS Triassic close focus primes. Have you seen the shots from those??? MY gosh they are CHEAP if you pre order... I LIKE these I and I evision some very cool start close and move away shots- I have a RED GEMINI -PL preffered

sucks that they are only e mount :(
Other mounts to be added.
@@GustavoSalun M mount will adapt to just about anything when those are released
I cried (jk). Would have been nice to have the M-mount first. But yeah, looking forward to trying these out. $3200 for the current set?? That's insane value.
Gutted these are mirrorless only, not gong to work with the BMPCC6k
Compare them to the mini primes
Man.... The footage looked beautiful but all I could hear was hair? when you were sitting on the couch at the beginning.
are you the same guy as the dude from the grainydays channel?
lol no
@@spensersakurai just checking, great video
We need a 18mm,
Nothing more tele than a 75 coming to this set?
The most tele Leica 0.8 is 90mm, so if these are based on a similar optical design then we could see that. But generally Leica rangefinder style long teles are rare
I like his hair
To bad they dont have a version for APSC version
Why no pl mount. Can companies please make them pl I never understand why they aim at mirrorless…
To make the lens as small and light as possible
Get over it with PL ;) I like the fact they will be as small as possible!
who love cinematography
🙄 rip current prices
arles prime review when
Great video. The lenses look sweet. Your images are really nice, but we have to remember that about 70% of that Magic sauce is coming from the Sony Venice sensor. Wish you would’ve put this on an FX3 to see what it looks like. Thank you.
A lot of the footage is on Sony a7iv
dude so truuuue
@@spensersakurai with only nd and pro-mist filter on?
Looks like canon fd lenses
Has anyone tried adapting the M-mount version to an RF camera? Specifically interested in the Komodo X. I know RF cameras have pretty thick sensor stacks so a lot of M glass displays color smearing and generally poor IQ. I haven’t seen any RED users try this yet. I need to know! Heh.
@@cnihon5894 I’ve only tested the 21mm on my Komodo so far but these were designed with mirrorless cameras in mind so I’m guessing it will be fine. Can confirm once my full set arrives but it’s been stuck in ahipping
In the end just another china lens set.
what happened to your hair? Couldn't look away.
