there are a LOT of baseball “video essays” out there on youtube that maybe aren’t plagiarized, and maybe aren’t written by AI, but they sure feel like that “background slop” designed not to hold your attention but to siphon ad revenue from the viewer. it’s HARD to make videos as good as the ones you make, bailey-that foolish baseball guy sure could do to take some notes from you
It can be hard to draw the line between "AI-generated/assisted background slop" and "minimal effort human-generated background slop", and that line is of course getting blurred more and more every day as people who created the latter start making the former. It really sucks how the video essay format, which used to be home to some of the most creative and well-researched thought-provoking videos on this platform is now just a synonym for "long videos where someone reads information to you in an authoritative tone of voice". Feels like the "essay" part of "video essay" got lost along the way, or else the experience these creators have with writing essays begins and ends with high school essays written in a single day and finished minutes before the deadline.
This is a good and appropriate response video. I'm sure your emotions are running like crazy, but you clearly and eloquently showed the similarities between the two videos, made a cogent argument that it's plagiarism, and aren't (as you said) trying to start UA-cam beef or escalate things beyond this. There has definitely been a scourge of AI-assisted video essay slop, about baseball, in the past year or so. They end up like book reports and you can usually tell within the first 30 seconds or so.
