Quite a stash of old classic VW's. The music is a real distraction. Some narration, voice overs about the cars would have represented a real improvement.
Nice find , glad you grabbed the '56 'vert too . Ignore the kiddies who complain, they're just jerkhoffs . I was a Journeyman VW Mechanic back in the day, my favorite split was an early '53 'Zwitter' . I'm resurrecting a raggedy '59 # 113 now, I can't possibly afford to re spray it much less restore it but I'll make a good driver out of it . Odd how every where I go in it folks want to buy it, back in the day it's wouldn't have been accepted in any junkyard . -Nate
Yes their reactions to the cars etc would have been great - we are all enthusiasts at the end of the day and we dream about this stuff. I've had a few Beetles in my time and a few years back a mate of mine found several split window Beetles in an old country shed, pretty much rust free.
I had an opportunity to see this car at a VW show in Seattle last spring. While it’s not totally original (as discussed in the hot VWs mag), it was still fun to see a straight unmolested survivor.
I had an old split for a long time. Used to really love VWs until they went all Barrett-Jackson on everybody. Great little hobby cars that didn't cost a fortune. Times have really changed.
@@llnemesisll7129 VWs were so much fun! In 1991 I bought a 1967 Microbus for $650, got it running, and drove that bus out of one of the worst times of my life. It needed some rust repair, like most do, but when it started popping out of 4th gear I decided to sell it to someone who had the time and place to properly repair it, which I did not at that time. I drove my split for 5 years, then stored it. I finally let it go to a friend's son who is a masterful body guy and he'll give it the care I never had time to give it. A great video! The pretzel beetle is in a dream state! The last (until 1950) Beetle with the 1 pipe exhaust. Super rare! Thanks! Greetings Klaus from Düsseldorf / Germany
I was a VW mechanic back in the 70's, always wanted an Oval. Weren't many around only knew of 2 in town. Found a '57 about 15 years ago, dragged it out of the weeds and after about a mile of welding wire, very little Bondo and lots of work and money she's a Horizon Blue honey.
I bought a 1960 Saab 93F out of a garage 6 years ago and it was as good as that split window. I redid the brakes and some electrical work and I drive it all the time in the summer. I had a 56 bug in the 1970s but it was a rusted POS that lasted a week until a guy totalled it with a pickup truck. I still miss my 62 bug convertible, the first engine I ever rebuilt by myself.
3:12 I'm going to guess the gentleman in the orange cap is the seller. And this 1950 VW was his pride and joy. I had a Bug Eye Sprite 32 years. When I retired I let it go. I can relate to how he must feel watching it leave down the road.
What a score, that early cab will make an interesting project. I know where a 57 sits , was externally restored in the mid 90’s laid on its side in the late 90’s and been in a garage ever since, but she won’t budge on parting with it.

WOW. Bow wow. Lucky enough to drive an iconic bug or two. Couple porches also. Boss at Volkswagen Specialist's was awesome. He'd buy lunch everyday. Tacos, they were awesome. Then we'd talk about what's going on with our customers cars. Mostly restorations. Some were just maintenance. Loved working there. Boss gave me a 1959 single cab , 1962 dbl. Wasn't one for making a profit. I've had a few VW cars and vans, square backs and fastbacks too. Dream cars.
This seems like kind of a second-generation barn find. I don't know if it is all-original or had been previously restored, but it clearly had a previous life as an already classic car. Twelve years isn't a particularly long time to be sitting idle, especially if it has been out of the elements. Probably just need to go through the fluids thoroughly before starting it up and driving it. Still a nice find regardless.
I've gotten so sick of deep pocketed people buying up everything in sight, running prices into the stratosphere, and leaving nothing for the rest of us. I have abandoned the VW hobby entirely. I have already seen two local VW salvage yards be completely cleaned out and shut down by guys who show up and drop a great big bill for everything. I hate it when something I really enjoyed becomes too expensive for me to partake of only because wealthy people began to show an interest in it. That has happened to VWs. Thank you, Barrett-Jackson.
