Wow fantastic , I am a Volkswagen lover since the day I was born and when I grew older Volkswagen was the best thing happened in my life it gave me so much knowledge about simplicity and seeing the first prototypes a pure simple German technology warms my heart ❤️

In 1967, at 18, I bought a 1954 'barndoor' van. Semaphore turn signals, no door locks. Or heat. Less power than my neighbor's riding mower. And with the 6 volt system, the cars behind me at night left a shadow in front of mine, with their brighter headlights. And the places that van took me! Slowly.
The price? $80. (but most wages back then were under $1/hr. Still, it was only 2 weeks pay - like I had a job. I was a travelin' hippie!)
My First Car was a German made VW 1971. Manual Shift, Air cooled. It would be wonderful to have them back exactly how they used to make them. Best Car ever conceived by the human intellect.

Is there ANY German supplier that can replicate the 1930's/1940's parts of this legendary KDF Wagen?
It's no wonder we refer to the rear as "Darth Vader" it looks Epic! 😍 (Imagine THAT Darth Vader Star Wars theme track playing when this cat came down the Autobahn escorting Tanks and Hitler in World War 2; bone-chilling fear and awe).
I know this little car's overwhelming success would have had Adolf Hitler turning in his grave, but nevertheless, he and Ferdinand Porsche would have had ONE thing to be proud of had he saw this. A huge thank you to the English for doing ONE thing right by keeping this little bug alive and not exterminating it - or so to speak.

Beautiful car, great story and restoration, a real pice of art. I own a 1972 beetle here in Brazil, it is my second beetle. My first beetle was a german 1967 in Costa Rica, Central America, I am still in contact with the owner and I will buy it back in the near future.

I saw this beauty at Hessisch - what a joy. The book was very beautiful too but also very expensive. The 1938 prototype car was there too I think, so older than this one.
Hello, thank you for your comment. Yes, the book is not cheap, but we were uncompromising in the quality of printing, paper, binding, photography and design. Still, we tried to make the book as cheap as possible. Thank you for your support.
I agree, car is wonderful and read the book at Ben's in Belgium and decided I'd like a copy but in England it would be £250 so decided that would be better spent on my 65..... beautiful book though.

So what's with the headlight covers? Did they serve a purpose or are they just there to look cool?
These covers have their meaning. During World War II it was a duty to have these covers because in the night was ban on lights.
@@Dipoziti Interesting! My first thought on seeing them is how they manage to give one of the cutest and friendliest looking cars a slightly more sinister appearance. Feels appropriate for the era.

Very nice car. I growe up in a 1960 Export, later in a 1500 Export from 1967. It was the normal car in Germany at this time.

I have already said most automobiles are too big too powerful can be driven much 2 fast and need more sensible designs a lot of volks troubles we cause our selves instead of what volks want we should make what we need when I learned driving it was like cameras manually operated then automatic cameras flash units that did not do as properly used manual ones get abs out of them let the driver do it with his foot more cars cheaper sell more less headaches more free time to enjoy life our health is nicer or more no but 2many volks want automatic they are with a bad attitude I can’t do it too simple minded lazy or well life is not always a bowl of cherries so easy I miss driving vw auto club life in the outside world my senorita amigo simple dates fun fun fun how many I repeat are miserable long hours to earn money same scenery basically I love what I do business with pleasure scenery varies not always four walls how many some suicide over jobs $$$$$$$$$$$$or always as one family dad was miserable making fun of those who had less$$$$ made him self sick over it it is not always what one has tho how used spent or otherwise or our amigos who we work with our hours at work hardly doing much else or our social lives now over one year since coronavirus pandemic guns knives crime and more volks are scared to go anywhere part of society troubles is our very sick normal believing if one is a bit different where born skin color regilion fashions dress handicapped hair styles or some go crazy loco nuts very wrong this I donot like tho I ignore it or never let it bother me we are all gods creations also ask me I love the English language USA in England a bit different English style somewhat I love my senorita amigo same as I am ew 2 respect all no matter what or who one is the way it should be in the whole world as is done in the Long Island vw auto club you don’t even need the best looking cars newest ones but no thrash. I've seen a few VW's with those covers on the headlights, what are they for ?
The Headlight covers (as shown here) were compulsory in Wartime, so that enemy aircraft (flying overhead) could not pick-out any roads during darkness. Or worse - shoot at you!
