Like many, I was shocked to realize this is Brian Johnson of AC/DC fame. I always accepted his idiosyncratic style with AC/DC but never realized how damned good his vocals were when singing naturally like this. His intonation is right on, and there is a clear power and pleasing timbre as well to his natural voice.
Brian was born in 1947, and in 1980, when he took over for Bon Scott (who passed away), he was 33 years old. I have to tell you, sticking with a music career at age 33 takes immense courage. Ric Ocasek is another 'late bloomer.' When most of our crowd was coming up, once you hit 21 years old, you were 'old'. If you were 25yo, it was hard to be taken seriously. Rock music in that time (the 1980s) had some age discrimination of a kind. Our worst nightmares were playing gigs to 16 years olds when we were 30 year old men. So I have to hand it to Brian Johnson for ignoring the snide remarks he probably put up with. No one in our crowd lasted to age 30 - by then the vast majority of the bands in our area, the members, were in legitimate careers in order to earn a living and be able to afford raising a family. 33 years old! And he was just starting with AC/DC. Rock music, unlike jazz or country music (or classical), is acutely a young person's game. Someone like Brian or Ozzy or the guys in Aerosmith are rare exceptions. The reason is, it's quite challenging to earn a consistent living in rock music. If it's something you HAVE to do, then you'll have the courage to survive the challenge. Otherwise, you chicken out, and you go back to college and finish your computer science degree, work in software startups in Silicon Valley, and attain independent financial means at age 35. .

And all I ever got from my troubles, was rejection. That's why, trusting you was more than I could do. You're no good woman you took my money you said it was just too bad. You don't wash my clothes or call me honey, but I don't feel so sad. But baby, how can I lose, What I never had. Goodbye Love (x2) I meant every word I said, when I told you it's over. (Do you hear me) But you just had to steal and played it, your way. Well it's too late now for us to speak of changes. 'Cause we've been living together for more than 1 day. You're no good woman you took my money you said it was just too bad. You don't wash my clothes or call me honey, but I don't feel so sad. But tell me, maybe it's true. Still I say to you. Goodbye Love (x6)

After listening to Highway to hell in 1979. Then 1980 Bon Scott had died, I had felt sorry for Brian Johnson when became lead Singer of Ac/Dc . But then when I heard back in Black AC-DC album I blow away by Brian Johnson voice. Brian Johnson is a Superb Siger.
Listening to some of Geordie's other songs, Brian had a range of tones. Some Graham Bonnet, some John Fogerty, a bit of Robert Plant, and quite a lot of the sound we're used to in AC/DC.
Just found out about this😮 And the next point added to my "time machine to Do list" Tell brian to Stay with them!! This is a million Times better than all 3 Acdc Songs combined 😂😂
Bon Scott's band Fraternity actually toured the UK with Brian and Geordie in the early '70s. Bon would later tell the guys in AC/DC about Brian, and that's how he got an invite to try out with the band. Brian's first song he recorded with the band was "You Shook Me All Night Long". He thought he did such a bad job he was about to call his wife and tell her it wasn't going to work out. The band liked it, so the rest is history.
I liked it. The whole thing. Brian Johnson in his younger years, with a different sound, different band. I liked the song. I liked their presentation. Brian is still smiling, even today with ACDC. I'm a huge ACDC fan, but I liked this this too!!!
He looked like he was really enjoying this type of soft rock music. Like it was in his sole. Who knows what other great stuff they could of done with a good writer. AC/DC were very lucky to pick Brian up. Can’t believe in his 70s there still going to try keep the band going. Truely incredible.
I wish Brian used his real singing voice every once and a while in AC/DC. I know the screaming fits the band better, but he's got a great set of pipes.

Lyrics: (keep in mind I'm writing this as I hear it)
Goodbye Love (x2)
I've been hard on the heels of heartbreak since I started out with you.
Trying to patch up your world which was broken in 2.
And all I ever got from my troubles, was rejection.
That's why, trusting you was more than I could do.
You're no good woman you took my money you said it was just too bad.
You don't wash my clothes or call me honey, but I don't feel so sad.
But baby, how can I lose, What I never had.
Goodbye Love (x2)
I meant every word I said, when I told you it's over. (Do you hear me)
But you just had to steal and played it, your way.
Goodbye Love (x6)
at that time ac/dc had toured in germany and among the audience was bon scott he loved geordie's music
FUN FACT: This was actually before Brian Johnson made it big. And he was still working part time in the chocolate factory.
Did he sing to the Oompa Loompas?
@@TimmyTickle he made the Oompa Loompas
Really? I thought this was after acdc
I thought he was straight
I know…
This is a first for me. Hearing Brian Johnson singing with his normal voice. Great song. He still wears ball hugger jeans in 2021, just like he does in this video.
Man Johnson had a great voice back then...very soulful
After listening to Highway to hell in 1979. Then 1980 Bon Scott had died, I had felt sorry for Brian Johnson when became lead Singer of Ac/Dc . But then when I heard back in Black AC-DC album I blow away by Brian Johnson voice. Brian Johnson is a Superb Siger.
I've watched this three times today and I still can't wrap my head around it. I'm kind of floored I never knew this.
This is great! Thanks!
Listening to some of Geordie's other songs, Brian had a range of tones.
Some Graham Bonnet, some John Fogerty, a bit of Robert Plant,
and quite a lot of the sound we're used to in AC/DC.
I came across this by mistake but it's excellent!
Great song and this was a great band and hearing Brian singing this style shows he deserved what was coming in the next 5 years.
Watched this after his Hoover advert. I love Brian's singing in everything he has done
This is freaking brilliant love it…
Legend has it the source of his awesome is having a guitarist with a SG
Nice melodic vocals by Brian, never heard him sing like that.
So, this is his real voice! Who would’ve thought
It use to be before all the cigarettes and whiskey
@@Superman_305 No, it was before Mutt Lange made him sing in a ridiculously high range.
@@TjMetalHead94 well add that to the whiskey and cigarettes and you'll get Brian Johnson's raspy singing voice he's known for today.
Me!
@@TjMetalHead94 He's actually singing here. AC/DC is allllllll Falsetto......big difference. I do think his voice here is surprisingly good
Just found out about this😮
And the next point added to my "time machine to Do list"
Tell brian to Stay with them!! This is a million Times better than all 3 Acdc Songs combined 😂😂
I discovered this and I was just blown away!
The man would of been a star with whoever he ended up with, he was quite a vocalist, amazing. AC/DC hit the jackpot with him and Angus knew it!
I AM OFFICIALLY FREAKED-OUT BY THIS lol Its like somebody said "Its some kind of parallel universe!"
What a great voice Brian Johnson had, listen also to the Geordie version of "House of the rising sun"!
thank you just super quality i admire my youth -musik and love are immortal.
Very Cool!
He got the hair style from the Oompa Loompas
Had to be a wig.
Absolutely. The hair stylist for the Oompa Loompas did this guy's doo
Brilliant, I was trying to put my finger on that lid and you hit the nail on the head...
😄😄same shit i was thinking
🤘👍
I LOVE AC⚡DC, I LOVE BRIAN JOHNSON AND NOW I LOVE GEORDIE!!!!
I am really shocked, he’s actually a really good singer! It’s crazy how far he has came since he joined AC/DC
Then he joined ACDC and did his horrible Bon Scott imitation since. Can't stand them or him.
@@ColtraneTaylor he's better than Bon. Can't stand you or anyone who agrees with you.
Why have I never heard this??? It’s SO good I’m on the 5th listen in a row. 🤦🏻♂️
The audience are really feeling it here, they need to calm down
Germans eh....you got to love em.
The boys really whipped the crowd into a frenzy with this number.
Typical of the 1970's. Just watch other TV performances from that period.
That's what audiences did back then they watched the show. Not everything was American Bandstand.
They’re saving their energy for 1980
gran banda!! gran cantante!! un grosso Brian, por algo era de los cantantes favoritos de Bon Scott
Such a great voice ainging with this delighted smile on a face. I like ACDC but Geordie could have had a longer life
This song is excellent!!!
Hello from Germany , this Musik is very very cool
How is this the same Brian Johnson that was screeching for AC/DC just five years later? Wow, what a huge difference!
The band liked it, so the rest is history.
xanadude and i read that Bon said if he ever left Brian should be the one to replace him
According to your story Bon had met Brian already? In person?
Heard him sing at a night out....or scream, actually
Yes. Bon saw Brian perform live while he was having an appendicitis attack.
Ironically here Brian sang way to different than in AC/DC, for example from Blow Up Your Video and after.
How prophetic it is that the guitarist is playing an SG.... Oh the things to come...
there are clips of bon back in the 60s with the valentines where the guitarist and bassist are using SGs
I liked it. The whole thing. Brian Johnson in his younger years, with a different sound, different band. I liked the song. I liked their presentation. Brian is still smiling, even today with ACDC. I'm a huge ACDC fan, but I liked this this too!!!
Well done Brian, no wonder you got the latest part! Love this.
man, what a voice. He is one of the greatest ever
You must be thinking of the great bon scott
He looked like he was really enjoying this type of soft rock music. Like it was in his sole.
Who knows what other great stuff they could of done with a good writer. AC/DC were very lucky to pick Brian up. Can’t believe in his 70s there still going to try keep the band going. Truely incredible.
I can actually hear that it is Brian Johnson! He doesn't sound to different from AC/DC despite the change of his singing method
Bon sounded a lot different when he sang with "Fraternity."
@@edlawn5481 I once read that bon was in a car crash I believe which made his voice as it was with acdc
@@iemandanders2577 motorcycle accident
@@eddiequist3088 ah yes thats what it was
iemand anders how did that happen
That's s is brilliant!! Off to Spotify to add it to my list 🙂
the whole AC/DC ignored... this is actually pretty good
Sensacional, o estilo de cantar, mudou muito de uma banda pra outra.
I wish Brian used his real singing voice every once and a while in AC/DC. I know the screaming fits the band better, but he's got a great set of pipes.
tHe GrEy MaN I always thought he just sounded that way in AC/DC because he got older, smoked a lot, and drank a fuckton
he sings a track on Black Ice like that, probably one of the more interesting tracks on the album
The fans wanted him to yell like Bon. Had he tried to sing in his own voice he would have been kicked out of the band before you can say "highway to hell".
@@ernestogasulla7763 AC/DC needs a true singer, not a Bon Scott impersonator
There's instances it comes out briefly: stormy may day, rock n roll dream, through the mists of time, danger, mean streak,
I really like this.
From "Back in Black" to "Fly on the Wall" are my favorite AC/DC albums.
Cool, mine are the ones prior to those, BIB is awesome though.
Brian's lower register voice was way better than his AC/DC days! More natural!
He has alwsys looked 50 yesrs old
haha yeah. Can't believe he's only 28 here.
@@Antarath he is 27 here.
his birthday is October 5th
@@paulpv7 9 days for fucks sake...
@@Antarath 😂😂
You try smoking three packs a day and see where it gets you.
Wow this is actually good stuff. Who would have known? And the drummer is rocking that 70's style stash!
This slaps HARD
He's got it all. One of the best singers.
Brian is a fantastic singer. No matter what he’s singing
Brian Johnson's band opened for Bon Scott in the 70s and Bon Scott said he has a great voice
